When Eric catches sight of Creek Bend, Wisconsin's most famous missing person, his mundane morning of running errands rapidly erupts into a chaotic search for mysterious, hidden places scattered throughout his own hometown. Along the way, he'll have to deal with strange monsters, a murderous cowboy and a curiously intimidating man in a pink shirt. The second book in the Rushed series. Horror-adventure, suspense and all-around weirdness. About 107,000 words.
Brian Harmon is an independent author of horror fiction, suspense and dark adventure. He grew up in Missouri and currently lives in Southern Wisconsin with his wife, Guinevere, and their three children.
Such an amazing fantastic story with perfect characters, humor and danger. Adventure, excitement and a slightly bended somewhat twisted version of supernatural oddities I couldn't imagine! A wonderful next step in the fantasy, science-fiction'y thriller I've come to know and love..So different from the first, perfect for the next. Job well done! Can't wait for the next!!
Rushed: The Unseen is the best book I've read this semester because of the suspense, the new characters, and the mystery. I enjoy how the story takes place in the normally cozy hometown of the main character. I like this because it gets twisted and suspenseful almost right off the bat. I loved the sarcastic humor that the author put into the dialogue between all of the characters. The humor gives a light-hearted feel to an otherwise very suspenseful plot. The bad guys in the story are enticing and they keep you guessing. The plotline is great and is easy to follow as they go from place to place. As I was reading this book I kept imagining the creatures depicted and it's so cool to me. The monsters and other beings are so interesting to hear about and it helps further the mystery of what will happen next. I read the first book of this series a few years ago and never got around to reading the second book. I am so glad I did because I just picked up right where I had ended. I recommend reading the first book before this one because you won't get the references and you could possibly get lost fast. I love this series and I don't normally like to read but these books are great. I think that if you like suspenseful, humorous, and fun stories you should read this book.
Oooh, this one was really good. It was better than the first in this series (in my opinion), although you'll need to read the first book first, otherwise this won't make sense in places. More weird fiction/horror/adventure in the style of a modern day Lovecraft. My one complaint is that the school from the 1880s did not fit the description of a school from that time. It seemed much more like a late 20th century school, with its lockers and large auditorium and such. Still, that's my only complaint, and I'm looking forward to the next installment in this series.
UPDATE: Rushed: A Matter of Time (the fifth book in this series) explains why the school "from the 1880s" appeared to be, essentially, a modern school. I'm not sure if this was intentional and planned at the time this book was written, or if it was done in order to correct the fact that the school in this book clearly wasn't depicted accurately. Either way, it actually works.
I read this sequel right on the tail of the first "Rushed" book--it was that strong a draw. And again Harmon does not disappoint. While continuing on with the characters from "Rushed," this one still stands pretty well on it's own. Although by the end, we are given more information as to the big picture that Eric is now part of.
For those who have not read the first book (which would be a shame), there is enough recounting of the characters and situations from it to catch them up to speed. However, having read the first book, I felt some of the reminders were a little over-kill. But, Harmon knows how to construct a paranormal mystery, and follow it through to the end fairly for the reader. As with the first "Rushed," the chapters follow at a great pace, with chapter breaks at the right points of tension, and humor sits quite nicely on top of the darker situations--something I'm looking forward to in future sequels (yes--keep them coming).
I will admit that I am generous when I comes to eating books. If a book leaves me thinking of it when I'm doing tasks that pull me away from my reading, or cause me to be that person at the family barbeque that sitting on their kindle because they can't pry their eyes from the pages, I consider it a great one. Rushed left me very satisfied. I adore Eric and Karen's relationship as their jokes and banter remained me of my boyfriend and I. As well how could anyone not love Izzy's character? She has the personality of a kid sister but the wisdom of an older one. I love it! I highly recommend this series. It is very well written, and takes you on an adventure page after page. I look forward to the next one!
I'm giving it three stars instead of two because I liked the general premise. Other than that, the author seems to have the maturity level of a highly conservative high school freshman? The main character, Eric, has a barely developed personality, beyond being smug and juvenile. His wife is a complete twit, and there was no real development of other characters either, unless you count several uses of a Taser as "personality." The phone texting character was annoying in the last book, and reached barely tolerable here. Why doesn't this story have a warning that it's target audience is YA who can't imagine life before cell phone obsessions?
Eric and Auden's story was was almost as good as the first book. I thoroughly enjoyed the humor, the intensiveness, the creepiness, and the way it came together at the end. I would definitely recommend this book to anyone that loves creepy stories.
Really like this series-Quick read, straightforward likeable characters ( and some pretty disreputable bad guys) I think it would help to read them in order but I don't believe it's necessary I don't believe it's necessary
I truly cannot put this series down. It's so good, and very well written. I'm constantly thrown off track of what I think is going to happen, and delightfully surprised by the outcome.
I really enjoyed the first book in this set. The second book was a little slow at times with a great ending that makes me want to read the third book in the series!
An excellent second read in this series where fantasy meets reality with a great deal of humour.
This gifted writer brings the characters alive, so real that I could almost say I knew them as those folks who live down the street (well maybe not the monsters) and although the protagonist finds himself in surreal situations, even they are totally believable.
Could there be places that are unseen until we really look? Wow, what an idea.
Yes, I am already reading number three and wonder again about the fight between good and evil amongst the brilliant dialogue, especially through husband and wife.
Rushed was an odd mix of humor and horror that I found mostly entertaining, but sometimes a bit annoying. I ultimately finished the book, so I did not find it terrible enough to stop, but it was a strange tale. One particular aspect of the tale I found annoying was he and his wife kept chatting in his cell phone through this entire bizarre journey. What? Who's battery lasts that long? Her reaction seemed pretty tame in relation to what her husband was telling her what was happening. This is a quick easy read that would be a good book to bring while traveling. Then you can leave it for the next person looking for an easy read.
Never in a million years would I have ever thought that I would read and enjoy a book of this type and now I'm not only reading them but enjoying them immensely. You could say I am totally hooked on this series of books. I love the characters, the creatures and even the bad guys and to top it all off it is so believable, makes you stop and wonder if it is possible, these places and times. If you're interested in reading something completely out of this world then you need to get into this series of books, you'll be instantly hooked. An absolute must read. It will take you places you'd never dreamed of in your wildest imagination.
If you're looking for creepy adventure mixed with the supernatural, this book is perfect. It's hard to put down once you start reading. It's like waiting to see what is hiding in the closet or under the bed. There is some humor thrown in which is great since the storyline is so deep. The ONLY thing I didn't like about this book is the misspelling of the word MANNEQUIN!!!! It's not manikin!!!! If you read this book, make sure you go back and read the first!
While I dont think this book was incredibly well written (neither was the first one), it was easy to read and I had a hard time putting it down. I finished it in a day. I am currently reading another series, but I will probably start the next book in this series when I finish the book I am currently reading. I enjoy that these are different than anything else I've read. They are out there enough to keep me interested, but I love how they get imagination going. I feel like I can really picture what is happening.
I think I liked this better than the first book. When Eric catches sight of Creek Bend, Wisconsin's most famous missing person, his mundane morning of running errands rapidly turns into a bizarre adventure filled with strange monsters, a murderous cowboy and a curiously intimidating man in a pink shirt as he searches for mysterious, hidden locations right in his own hometown. The second book in the Rushed series. With help from Eric's brother and a friend called Isabelle, Eric gets around and where he needs to be.
I read this because I had the desire to read more when I finished rushed, but I was a little disappointed. I felt like the books really had nothing in common. You could read this without reading rushed first and you would be able to follow the story. It still left you with the feeling of what happens next with the main character, so I just felt like the story wasn't finished for both the first book rushed and this one.
I'm really enjoying this series. Brian Harmon is an excellent writer and story teller. I was an avid Stephen King fan for years, but haven't read him for a while because I got tired of the gratuitous use of bad language and sex. While there is some use of bad language in Mr. Harmon's books, it's few and far between, and there are no sex scenes. It's refreshing to read a well-written book that doesn't rely on cursing or sex to tell a story.
I love the way this author rites, very real and extremely interesting, found the first book for free then after a while I couldn't help but spend the few bucks it cost to get the second. Only took a few days to finish it, and that's with me restraining myself, lol awesome read and look forward to finishing the series! :)
I gave it top marks for character realism, potential for the impossible to have an air of possibility, and the continued ability, chapter after chapter, to continually draw me forward. I enjoyed both books so far and applaud the author for creating works of fantasy in which I could imagine myself playing a part.
After the first book I was really excited to know there were more books to read and promptly bought them all. Out of the series of four, the first and the third are my favorites. This one, however is very good. Very, very good, even.
I continue to enjoy Brian Harmon's ability to mix humor and horror. If a book makes me freak out and then snort with laughter on the same page, then hey, I'm happy!
Another page turner in the Rushed series. Brian Harmon is fast becoming my second favorite author. I cannot stop following Eric Fortell on his adventures! Looking forward to starting book 3. If you haven't read Rushed yet, what are you waiting for? Start the series already...
I loved it! it kept my interest all the way to the end. I hope there's more. Isabelle kinda repeated the same thing over and over "I don't know, it feels different" it was annoying but still loved her and the story
