Native Water

Rate this book
A moving, lyrical and thought-provoking collection of poetry from the author of the critically acclaimed memoir FAERY TALE: One Woman's Search for Enchantment in a Modern World.

"The poems in NATIVE WATER offer a hopeful vision of coping with loss. Signe Pike holds tight to the small moments that fill her memory, grounding them in the tenuous things of the world. Whether she’s describing 'a martini with extra onions sweating by the pile of junk mail' or 'the flicker of a white-tipped tail,/disappearing around a bend/in the winding, muddy trail,' Pike’s vivid imagery embodies the collection’s central paradox of loving and letting go."
-Marjory Wentworth, South Carolina Poet Laureate

I like this collection a lot. Like water, I was a fine refreshment I had today, a light drink that made me smile. I always love reading poetry that are personal, anecdotal and bittersweet. This collection is one of those. It made me see through the poet's eyes. I could have be happier if I read more of the love poems, but those romantic ones in this collection are rendered beautifully. I would definitely look forward to more poetry or other books by this author.

Native Water by Signe Pike is a beautiful book of poetry that explores and expresses water and elements of water in a unique way that’s not too literal in context. The poet knows how to turn a poetic phrase with ease, as if you’ve never heard that combination of words before, but it seems oddly familiar.

"This was an amazing read. A bit of information about the author and how the book of poetry came to be. The poem of the dog being left behind when his owner died, made me cry... Written from the thoughts of a loving dog and being left behind, waiting and hoping and it taking time for him to understand..."
