Let’s start with the fact that Holy Smoke is extremely well written! The attention to detail, no matter how small, is so appreciated! This book is witty, thrilling and steamy! I found myself giggling under my breath in every chapter!

Nash and Jovi are a perfect pairing of a stern, sworn protector and a sassy ‘lil badass, taking on a world filled with demons and big bad baddies. The relationship they build is full of delicious tension, snarky remarks, and unexpected feelings blooming ever so quickly…uh oh! Their exciting journey has
a perfect action to romance ratio!

Already obsessed with the rest of the characters!
The world building is….chef’s kiss! 👏🏼🔥😍
Can’t wait to see what happens next!
BRB while I go read it again, and hope the next book is coming soon!

I had fun reading this supernatural romance with all kinds of creatures, powers and secrets. It follows Jovie, who is a demon and Rogan, who is a human. I really liked the world, modern day with advanced technology mixed with the incredible abilities and strengths and with a very interesting plot. I found it engaging and kept my interest. I do wish there were more details and descriptions having to do with abilities, society and the different supernatural's. Jovie was unique, loved her style, and she had such mystery surrounding her. The chemistry between them was not really there for me, Rogan was very stiff and ridged on a lot of things, so it did not always work for me. I found Rogan’s teammates on the force extremely interesting, their dynamic and teamwork was so synced. I hope we got more from their perspective and back story. I did have a pretty fun time reading this, I was not surprised by a lot and the romance was only ok, so I rated it 3 stars. It was good, but there were a couple of points that did not work for me, I wanted more from the plot in some areas.
I received an advanced ebook, via Netgalley. This review is my own honest opinion.

“You are pain. You are agony. You are the anguish of desire. You are the flames of retribution. That is what you are.”

“Holy Smoke” by Gin Griffith is a fantasy romance about Jovi and Rogan. Jovi, a demon, is trying to stay under the radar while looking for her father, all until she runs into Rogan. Rogan, a human in the special forces to hunt demons, is tasked with keeping Jovi alive even though demon creatures keep showing up mysteriously. Their attraction to each other is palpable but dangerous.

I did not get bored the entire book it was so good. I loved the grumpy/sunshine trope going to with Jovi and Rogan. A ton of action happens in the book and the world building is descriptive but not too overly confusing which was nice. It has more plot than a lot of spicy romance books so that is great. I liked the main character Jovi most of all, she’s strong but insecure, spicy yet sweet, cunning yet not too evil, I just liked how she was written a lot. I gave the book a 4 out of 5 stars, really good.

I wasn't sure what to expect when I started this, but it was a good read! Very fast once I got going, though there were a lot of subplots that made it a little hard to keep track of. Overall still an enjoyable read, and I'll be interested to see what the author writes next!

2.5 rounded up. Action packed and lots of fun, but a little all bit all over the place. Paranormal, shifters, techno cyberpunk, dungeon crawly, body guard, forced proximity, found family, it was a little hard to keep track of!

Holy smoke was quick paced fantasy whirlwind of a story. I found that there were a lot of mini subplots happening that weren’t necessarily related to each other which was a bit overwhelming at times. There was the mafia plot, the fallen angel, Jovi’s mom and the romance plot. I would have liked it to be thought through a little more so it flowed better. The romance was okay. The characters seemed pretty juvenile. I’m not sure if there was an age gap between them but it felt like it. The spicy scenes were kinda awkward to me. Not sure if it was because how they happened or that visually they seemed a little odd. Overall, it’s a decent 1st book but I think with a little more clarity on the plot future books could be really good!

This was a great start to a series and I look forward to reading what happens next.
I started and finished the novel in a day, it was fast paced and full of action which kept me reading to see what happens next!
I love the two main characters, however I also felt that the side characters were well thought out as well.
The romance/spice was written in nicely, it wasn't gratuitous for the sake of it, it fit with the storyline and helped move the plot along.
An enjoyable read, bring on the next one! :)

This book was absolutely delightful. I love both the female and male characters. She was perfectly bubbling and badass, and he was perfectly moody and macho and possessive. The stream and spice were just perfect. The side characters were fanstatic. The storyline with the futuristic aspects had me enthralled, and I can't wait to see what is coming next from this series.

In the realm of paranormal romance, Gin Griffith's "Holy Smoke" ignites a captivating tale of forbidden love and supernatural intrigue. The story revolves around Jovi, a succubus fleeing from her past, and Nash Rogan, a demon hunter sworn to protect humanity from the forces of darkness. Their paths collide in a clash of passion and danger, as Jovi's irresistible allure challenges Rogan's resolve to remain aloof from the temptations of the underworld. Griffith's writing style is both sensual and suspenseful, weaving a web of desire and danger that keeps readers enthralled from the first page. The characters are vividly drawn, with Jovi's fiery spirit and Nash's brooding intensity creating an electric chemistry that sizzles throughout the narrative. The supporting cast, including Jovi's fellow succubus, Lily, and Rogan's enigmatic mentor, Elijah, adds depth and intrigue to the story. One of the strengths of "Holy Smoke" is Griffith's ability to blend humor and heart into the narrative. The banter between Jovi and Rogan is witty and often laugh-out-loud funny, providing a much-needed reprieve from the darker elements of the plot. However, Griffith does not shy away from exploring the emotional complexities of her characters, delving into their fears, insecurities, and past traumas. The result is a story that is both entertaining and emotionally resonant. The supernatural world that Griffith creates is rich and imaginative, filled with demons, angels, succubi, and other paranormal beings. The author does an excellent job of balancing the fantastical elements of the story with the relatable emotions and struggles of her characters. The result is a world that feels both fantastical and grounded in reality. Overall, "Holy Smoke" is a gripping and entertaining paranormal romance that will appeal to fans of the genre. Griffith's skillful storytelling, memorable characters, and steamy romance make this book a must-read for those who enjoy a good love story with a supernatural twist.

*I received this book as an ARC reader, however this does not impact my review.*

This was a fun modern take on a romantsy, with all your typical characters from various shifters, to fae, and even some mythology and indigenous inspiration. Set in a modern world, it was a good mix of contemporary and fantasy.

I enjoyed the story well enough, but it was missing some things for me. World building kind of just was thrown in rather than feeling throughly thought out. While it was a modern setting, I was missing some of the details to make it feel immersive. If you're someone who dislikes the super detailed world building and just wants the story, this might be more up your alley.

I enjoy a good slow burn, or at least some kind of smoldering. The MCs were already fairly obsessed with each other from the first few pages. The relationship built a bit from there, but I would have liked more tension between them for a little longer or at least not having their physical attraction being a main story point quiet so early on.

That being said, it was a fairly fast read, had good spice along with a decent plot. Solid 3 stars.

Holy Smoke was a fun, sexy, action packed book. Filled for the brim with everything you could imagine, from a spicy fmc succubus Jovi, demons, a crazy world and a demon hunting mmc Nash Rogan. While some parts of this book kind felt like we were pulled in any and every direction it did all have an overarching theme, Jovi’s mother. Since Jovi climbed her way out of Hell, Jovi’s mother has been looking for her ever since. More and more demons have been on Jovi’s ass and she attracts the attention of the MLE, the demon hunting task force, who Nash Rogan is the head of. Jovi plays the role of a mage, not a demon succubus to hide of tracks. Nash Rogan and Jovi get into sone problems and have to go into WITPRO, aka witness protection. The rest of this book follows the two and the journey of being in WITPRO. Of course there is a steamy romance between Jovi and Rogan, and boy was it fun to see Rogan overcome himself and finally give into the freedom of Jovi. Throughly enjoyed this book and all it was, even though it may not be a raving 5 star, it definitely was a crazy ride and I can tell the rest of the series isn’y going to stop there with the craziness!

I found this book an exceptional read. I've read hundreds of these books in the adult fiction genre, and sometimes details go fuzzy in the background - where the person is, how the room looks like etc. (Or god forbid, if you actually try to follow through a smut scene in detail - the guy. suddenly must have 6 hands to be able to do it all. No joke) Or alternatively, the scene is set in so much detail you get annoyed because you want to see what happens next. This book sat perfectly in the middle, I read it in one go the day before Christmas, and the storyline and the clarity of the scenes are still with me today. There's just something to the writing style of this new rising-star author that really clicks with me. I could visualise everything so easily.
The story has a few sub-plots, which added dept to the book. The details with which the whole unique world was described created the foundation for the next books in the series in a really cool way.

* I got an advanced copy in exchange for my honest review.

Holy Smoke - Gin Griffith
Trope/Genre - romance, fantasy, opposites, close proximity
Trigger Warnings ⚠️ - language, gore, fight scenes, smut

----

What happens when a half demon hybrid falls in love with a demon hunter? A lot of fighting, love scenes, and sweets. Jovi has been trying to live peacefully away from her overbearing mother for years and it's a miracle she hasn't landed herself in any serious trouble. Until she meets Rogan, a MLE demon hunter, leader and the only human in his team. They both see something go down and is then forced into witness protection together, but problem is they both don't know who Jovi really is.

----

The suspense and the thrills of this book makes me want to never put it down. The action was one thing right after another and the tension between the two characters was hot.

I loved the characters- Jovi is reckless, petty, and funny; Rogan is serious, straight-laced, and methodical, but there was still depth to the characters. Rogan and Jovi are both the way they are for reasons that are explored through the story. The development of their enemies-to-lovers relationship felt natural. It didn't feel forced or have a time skip where the reader is supposed to accept that the characters are no longer enemies.

One thing that bothered me is that the writing felt a bit clunky at times, and the storyline felt a bit rushed. I think this could have used one more draft to really iron out the verbiage and pace things along. I would have liked more world-building and smut and fewer details on background characters.

Overall, a good read! I'll be picking up the second book to see where the story leads.

I enjoyed this read. It was giving major shadow hunter vibes. It had enemies to lovers, forced proximity, and grumpy and sunshine tropes. I thought that the plot was interesting and it kept me wanting to read more to find out what happened. I was rooting for the couple the whole way through. Watching the character development was cool. All that being said, I thought that the writing was a tad juvenile. I would have liked the writing style to read less like a young adult novel. The spicy scenes were not well composed and I would have liked better development on them. Overall, I think this is a fun read if you are into the tropes and paranormal creatures.

Holy Smoke was definitely a bit different from anything I’ve read before, with the various shifters, mages, demons, angels, etc. it took me a bit to get into the book, but once I did, I couldn’t put it down. The characters were well-developed, the side characters were great, there was enough angst and danger to keep things interesting, and the steam was good! I didn’t pay attention to whether this is a series or not, but I hope it is and we see more of the DE group in future books.

The story follows the journey of Jovi, a cunning succubus, and Nash Rogan, a stoic demon hunter. Their relationship is tumultuous yet forms the heart of the story. Their journey is full of danger and unexpected alliances, making it a rollercoaster of intense emotions. Griffith's storytelling is good, with vivid characterizations and a seamless blend of romance and fantasy. The book's pace is fast and kept me on the edge of my seat, making it a truly immersive read. Despite the complexity of its subplots, This book has an engaging plot and dynamic protagonist duo, making it a promising start to the series.

Thank you to Netgalley and Harbour Lane Books for an advanced copy in exchange for an honest review.

For a first novel this was a good story. The concept, themes and tropes were great.

Unfortunately, the writing style for me came across quite juvenile and read more YA than adult. In addition, the spicy scenes just didn't flow for me.

There seemed to be a lot of plot jumping with side plots which made the story feel a bit all over the place.

I think with future attention to these sorts of issues the next books could be fantastic.

I absolutely loved this book the way Gin wrote this was absolutely amazing! It is a fantasy romance! I loved the plot, her writing flowed smoothly. The spice wasn’t overwhelming or seemed forced it was just amazing!

This book follows Jovi and Rogan. Jovi who is a demon and Rogan who is a hunter but is tasked with keeping her safe! This was an amazing enemies to lovers! I loved grumpy to sunshine attitude as well! I mean she also had me at demon 🤭

I absolutely cannot wait to see what she writes next! If you love fantasy romance with spice this book is for you!

I struggled to get into the book. I'm someone who enjoys world-building, and who enjoys the why's and how's with the who's.

I couldn't tell you if this book is set in a different type of realm, I couldn't tell you if the book was set in a smaller town versus a big city. I could tell you about the characters (kind of).

The writing at times seems immature. I cringed every second to third chapter.

IN SAYING THAT - it was decent when the writing wasn't juvenile. For me, it just wasn't captivating enough to hold my attention.

I think I would have liked this book if I was younger; early twenties.

A new author with a paranormal read you will not want to miss out on. I really enjoyed this book, it reminded me very much of Kresley Cole’s Immortal After Dark series.
This fun, and action packed read has it all. Great main characters with a host of beasties, and a convoluted storyline that keeps you engaged. If book one is any indication there will be good things to come.

Was this book good? No, it was amazing! I enjoyed each and every page of it. The pace is fast, loved how the two main characters are empowered, coming both from an equal strength, both getting to know each other and learning how much they could trust each other.
Loved how they also are able to admit mistakes and learn from them, not trying to portray them as perfect and giving they room to grow throughout the book. Can't wait for part 2

I found this easy to read and you really connect with the characters. While the story is brimming with compelling characters, it's important to note that personal favorites may vary.

Between the different storylines, there are several great twists and reversals. There are some awesome character moments, several cheer worthy victories and more than one heart-wrenching tragedy. It all comes together quite brilliantly.

Ultimately this keeps you turning pages, leaving you wanting more.

So, I couldn't finish this since it got taken off the Radish Fiction app. I guess I can go buy the book now, and give it a go to get through the rest of the book. But I was disappointed when it got taken down with a few more months to go on the app, and I would have been able to finish it then. It seems a disservice to readers that were part of the Radish Fiction closure. We all got caught up in losing so many good stories. *Shrugs* Oh well.

The author has built an interesting world and managed to give us insight to how it works and what different things are, while telling a fascinating story.

What a wonderful job of keeping the reader invested in the book and its characters to the very end!
