It's a mystery every month from A to Z Mysteries author Ron Roy! Who knew there were thirteen months in a year? It's an extra thirteenth book of the Calendar Mysteries! Bradley, Brian, Nate, and Lucy are looking forward to a New Year's Eve party. But someone is leaving clues that there might be more to this celebration than confetti and noisemakers. The year ends with a surprise in this exciting conclusion to the Calendar Mysteries series.
Ron Roy has been writing books for children since 1974. He is the author of dozens of books, including the popular A to Z Mysteries®, Calendar Mysteries, and Capital Mysteries. When not working on a new book, Ron likes to teach tricks to his dog Pal, play poker with friends, travel, and read thrilling mystery books.
My five-year-old is enjoying short chapter books (which can be read in one to three sittings), and reading longer stories aloud with her has been a joy. This book is the first time I’ve experienced an exuberant outburst from her during the climax of the story. She squealed, laughed, and hugged me when everything came together, and it was a precious response.
The story itself was cute, and the chapter endings held enough hook to prompt more page turning. We’ve brought home another handful of library books from this series, and hoping to have more great reading experiences in the days ahead.
I read the original A-Z Mystery stories when I was a little kid and greatly enjoyed them, I had only ever gotten to the Letter T, so I figured this year I would re-read and actually complete the series all this time later, and I was delighted to learn that Ron Roy has continued on the Green Lawn Mysteries and characters, and gone on with Calendar Mysteries and the A-Z Super Mysteries, which I will get to reading later on.
This series of 12 books focuses on the younger relatives of the Main Characters of the original series, and it's charming and fun to see the adventures they all get up to in this fun additional series.
Brian, Bradley, Nate and Lucy are excited about the New Year's Eve party that will be taking place at the Pinto house. But when they hear about Mrs. Wong's laptop being stolen and a strange couple lurking around looking in people's windows, they start investigating. They follow the mysterious couple, who leave clues, take pictures and eventually disappear. Will the Pinto's get robbed or is this more than the kids can comprehend?
We are enjoying these short chapter mystery books. I love when my son asks for one more chapter.
This book was a nice ending to the series as the kids pursue some mysterious strangers in town in order to determine if they are thieves preparing to break into their homes. They have a big surprise waiting for them at the end. This book concludes the Calendar Mysteries and leaves the kids in a good place at a New Year's Eve Party. My kids really enjoyed these books, including trying to solve the mysteries and thinking through what's actually happening in each story. Overall, this was a great early mystery series that are not scary, but have scenarios for kids to figure out and solve.
It was good. It was about 4 kidnamed Bradley, Brian, Nate, and, Lucy who foun 2 people who the kids think are a robbers. They follow them around the town on new year’s eve. At the New Years Party Lucy parents in Arizona Building a School and Lucy staying with her cousins in CT her barthbay is January 1 she was one present for her birthday Lucy opened the present Lucy’s parents were in the present 😄
Four friends are looking forward to a New Year's Eve party, but there are thieves lurking about town. There are clues that might help the kids find them, but could the surprise be something other than what they think?
This is my first time reading a book in this series. My son is in second grade, and he picked it up from the book swap at school. It's an easy to read and fun light mystery. Nothing too scary, and interesting clues to figure out. That was my son's favorite part!
I loved the fact that this book had an amazing ending. I only don't like the idea that Lucy's parents pretended they were thieves. I would recommend this book to anyone who likes mysteries😁😂😎👦👦👨👧👩👵👴
This book totally hooked me. Ha! Great suspense, but was disappointed some by the ending and explanation. Great ending in general but didn’t match the suspense, in my opinion. Fun read for young readers! Illustrations were enjoyable too.
Simple story of friends: Bradley, Brian, Nate, and Lucy on New Year’s Eve trying to solve a mystery. 6 year old very much enjoyed the writing and wanted to keep reading.
The Calendar Mysteries is a great series of books for younger kids! They are easy reads so kids don't lose interest, but are quirky and fun to read. Adrian and I just finished up the New Year's Eve Theives book and really enjoyed it. Normally we read a chapter a night, but the last 3 chapters Adrian had to know what happened so she made me keep going. The ending was so cute and heartwarming, I really felt that there was a good message being portrayed within the mystery of the "Theives". This is the first book within this series that Adrian and I have read together. I look forward to reading many more.
Bradley, Brian, Nate and Lucy are looking forward to the New Year’s Eve Party, but they find out that Mrs. Wong’s Computer has been stolen and then they see a suspicious couple looking in windows. Are these the robbers? The kids decide to follow them and find out exactly what is going on.
This is the last title in Ron Roy’s Calendar Mysteries series featuring a group of young children who solve mysteries. The story was meant to be an introductory chapter book appropriate for children who are ready to move up to chapters with an easy to follow story. The Ron Roy website for the series recommends them for younger students than the A to Z mysteries. I do think new chapter book readers will enjoy the story and series as the A To Z has been perpetually popular series for kids. As an adult recommending books to children, I do however have a big concern over the plot device of having children this young deciding to follow people with their faces covered and who are acting “shady” without involving any adult at all. They of course run into many adults along the way, but they never think to tell anyone what they suspect.
This book was provided by the publisher for professional review for SWON Libraries.
it was really funny when they dissapeared and the kids were like where are all the mommys and daddys then they saw a light in the barn and they saw a big present and they opened it and a women and a man were standing there if you want to find out who were the man and women read the book it is really exciting
Eleanor says: this book was very very sweet at the end. I like that the kids get tricked.
Momma says: this was a good wrapup to the story. I figured out pretty quickly who the people were that the kids were following but it was still a fun mystery and we liked this little spinoff series from A-Z mysteries.
