I should have known I’d run into him eventually.

But at our friend’s wedding with nowhere to hide?

Ugh.

I wish he didn’t look so good in a suit.

Or board shorts.

And come on. Nobody looks good in board shorts.

But he does.

Double ugh. And triple trouble.

We had our shot when we were young and in love, and what did he do?

He chose my ex best friend instead.

The kicker?

She’s at the wedding too, and like always, she has ulterior motives.

He’s also a single dad.

Guess who his baby momma is?

You got it.

The ex best friend.

After all that you’d think I’d know when to turn tail and run the other direction.

Except he’s not the boy he used to be.

And I’m not the same girl, either.

If I let him back in, I might get hurt.

If I don’t, I might regret it forever.

I already know what everyone is going to think.

Him again?

I debated whether to give this a 1* or 2*!

This is not a second chance romance and to be honest it would have been a much better book if the author hadn't written it that way. Second chance is where they characters are in love, something happens to separate them and then they come back together - there is typically mutual pining etc.

Basically out h and H are together for from a young age for a year or so (her 14/15 and him 17). We get little to no information about their relationship. He breaks up with her for no other reason that he was bored and he had his head turned by her more outgoing best friend who he enjoyed the excitement of (real winner there). He actively goes after the best friend after making the choice that he wanted her over the h. Not a good reason and we don't actually get to see any of his thoughts at the time nor do we get to see the supposedly entice him away from the h so basically he thought the grass was greener elsewhere. He then stays in a relationship with the ow for approximately 2.5 years not giving two hoots about the h. We don't have any insight into what his relationship with the ow was like or why he stayed in it for so long - one must assume he was happy and in love. Too many plot holes!

We then meet the characters when they are adults so 6 years after he dumped the h. He hates the ow by this point and the reason why - he got her pregnant but she didn't want the kid. He didn't realise she was toxic before that apparently. I needed to hear why he stayed in a relationship if she was so bad! There's no way she suddenly had a personality transplant only after having their child. And the real kicker - the ow dumped him so he would have still been with her now is she hadn't! He is a terrible H and I never got the impression he loved the h. He supposedly falls in love with her again when they meet at a wedding and she is painted as a saint and a wonderful mother figure to his daughter. I just didn't buy the whole story at all. The H painted himself as a saint also but he was a horrible character, he brutally dumped the h, moved onto her best friend because she was exciting (he did not have a good reason at all) and stayed in a long term relationship with her which only ended because she dumped him - there's no redemption here. He doesn't grovel, he doesn't admit he was wrong or explain really why other than saying he was young and dumb. There was no pining for the h or the "I've always loved her" instead he settled for the h because he was lonely and it turns out the grass wasn't greener it turns out it wasn't!!!

And the kicker, even though he supposedly hates the ow now, he goes to her and comforts her and abandoned the h again towards the end of the book. If the ow had wanted a child with him he would have been perfectly happy living his life with her and not caring one iota about the h.

Also not a huge fan of the best friend pregnancy trope! It's implied she tricked him into getting pregnant but never explained.

If the author had filled in some of the plot holes regarding the separation, his relationship with the ow etc it might have been a better book.

Second chance stories are great but not this one.
Couple at high school, hero 18, heroine 16. He breaks up with her and goes after her best friend. (No cheating…”woo”) ends up a single dad at 20 then a billionaire (🙄). She goes on to have a tea business and lives with her friends. Bumps into each at high school frens wedding…(she doesn’t know he’s a single dad or a dad by then by does meet his daughter) they catch up again…they end up having sex in some garage at some event and she finds out he has a kid.
He apologies for leaving her and going after someone else. Why did I not enjoy this book? Because she just up and gives it all up to this guy like some loser. This author makes her look like a pathetic heroine and all of a suddenly very protective of his kid.
The only cool thing about this book is sunny his kid. Everyone else is a tosser. As soon as she makes a move on him / throws herself at him which only takes a few chapters - I was done. This book can go in the recycling bin 🤮

I received an ARC for my free and honest review.

This is a second chance romance. Ward and Jenny dated in high school and things did not work out. They meet again at a friend’s wedding and old feelings come back. I did feel like I missed something by not reading the first book in this series, while is doesn’t really affect the story of the two main characters, there were references to Jenny’s roommates that I did not understand.
I gave this three stars because the story was long and I felt tedious at times. Kept putting it down and picking it back up. Good story over all though, still love this author.

A sucker for a second chance. That’s me. Life, in the form of a particularly underhanded former-best-friend, got in the way of what was developing between Jenny and Ward as teenagers. Can the wedding of old school classmates put what was broken back together? I loved Jenny and Ward. And the precocious little imp, Sunny, ran away with the show in every scene where she appeared. There are oodles of family drama in this book, which make my reality-television-loving heart simply giddy. This little family has a lot to unpack in order to find their forever happiness, but the rewards were well worth the work.
I received a complimentary advance copy of this book from the author.

This is a well written second chance romance with strong characters in Jenny and Ward. The author takes you into their lives as they re-connect. She brings out all the feels, gives them a hot chemistry, throws in some humor and delivers a terrific read. Loved it!

I voluntarily reviewed an ARC of this book. All opinions in this review are my own and freely given.

*4.75 stars*

This is book two and an interconnected standalone in this series. It is more enjoyable when read in order since you get more history on the roommates of each main female character the books are focused on. The previous main characters and some side characters from book one make multiple appearances.

This is supposed to be a second chance romance. Jenny and Ward dated when they were younger. Ward left her for her attention seeking “best friend” who was more girly than Jenny was. That is my take on why he left her since that’s pretty much the only reason given besides him being young dumb.

I’m still on the fence about this story. While I think it has the potential to be a great read, it is very long with very little details about Jenny and Ward’s relationship the first time. I loved that Jenny quickly connected with Ward’s daughter.

While I liked Ward as a father to his daughter and as an individual; I wasn’t a that big of a fan of him with Jenny. I liked Jenny as a friend, individual and a mother figure for Sunny; I also didn’t like her with Ward. Let me explain.

If you have the time to read this story in a long setting, you will enjoy this book. Ward didn’t treat Jenny the way I personally felt she should be treated most of the book. I loved that he stood up for their relationship, but he didn’t really try or go the extra mile to prove her insecurities weren’t going to happen again. I loved the way he interacted with his daughter, but at the same time I felt like he wasn’t the strong protector of her that he wanted to be. He caved way to easily to many times when it came to the birth mother.

Jenny was a strong independent woman who was ready to make her dreams come true. When she could’ve chickened out when it came to her business, she was still not embracing her confidence fully at first but then she did and I loved it. I loved the way her and Sunny met. I loved their instant connection. What I loved most was her protectiveness over her and how she showed no fear when it came to the safety of Sunny, even if that meant she had to face off with an enemy of her past. I loved that when Ward was threatened, she was bad mouthed and Sunny went through that scary moment for a 6 year old, Jenny didn’t bat an eye to step in to defend Ward and Sunny and not think twice about her. She showed her strength in those moments and it was a favorite of mine. What I wish she would’ve done was insert that strength and demanding energy into not falling into Ward’s arms the first chance she got without a better answer than “I was young and dumb” or an apology.

I have read a lot of Ali Parker’s books and enjoyed them all. While I enjoyed this one, it seems her books are getting longer and this one had some things that I would’ve liked to see traded for more history on Jenny and Ward and a better character development individually and in their relationship.

I received an advanced readers copy, but borrowed the book through my kindle unlimited to snag the deleted scene. These thoughts and opinions are my own.

Lightweight and sweet

First things first:
Spice: 🌶🌶🌶/🌶🌶🌶🌶🌶(3/5)
Medium burn 🔥
Standalone
Violence/gore (1/5)
Tropes: second chance, single dad, billionaire, first love

Premise in a nutshell: The main female character's first love and childhood sweetheart broke up with her in high school in order to pursue a relationship with her best friend. Six years later, she runs into them both at a wedding, they are no longer together, and they share a 6 year old daughter. The main male character has lived and matured and is now fully aware that giving her up was a mistake and tries to win her back. But she's guarded.

My thoughts: This was shockingly not angsty considering the plot. I fully expected a lot of heartache and gut wrenching surrounding what the main male character did, but somehow, the way things are written is mild. I also expected other woman drama, and while the baby mama drama was definitely an issue, it wasn't in the way you would expect. The main male character was a sweet, sensitive cinnamon roll type guy, and at times, I almost felt he was too soft. He allowed the mother of his child, the teachers and schools, and other characters to go too far over and over again despite his wealth and power. Just my opinion. All in all, this was sweet, meandering read.

This is a standalone book, but is 2nd in a series about a group of women who have been roommates since college. It took me a bit to really understand what was happening in the beginning of this book, as there were several characters that appeared to be important to the story, who actually turned out to be supporting roles. This really started to unwind itself about the 3rd chapter in, and then things really started to get interesting. Even though I felt it was a rocky start, I became quite involved in Ward & Jenny's love story, and really understood where the struggles of mistrust and insecurity came from. One could almost consider this to be a billionaire love story, but in reality, the author does a really good job of downplaying the fact that Ward really did have a lot of money, and he doesn't act like a pompous rich guy. It was also nice to see that both characters make mistakes in the relationship - it wasn't just one-sided - and they both learn and grow from these mistakes. All in all, this is a great romance novel filled with all the things us romance girls love to read about!!

Jenny Halsey’s classmates Lauren and Jameson are engaged and scoping out Colby and Naomi’s wedding for ideas. Single dad Ward Emerson, Jenny’s junior high school boyfriend and first love, is the best man, and his daughter Sunny is the flower girl. Mean girl influencer Gwen, Sunny’s estranged mother who stole Ward from Jenny, is a guest. Whew, what a complex web right out of the box!

When Jenny and Ward dance at the wedding, he asks if she still hates him for the breakup, and she runs away, too flustered to answer. They meet again at The Cozy Company, one of the endeavors that makes Ward a billionaire, and he spirits her off to a whiskey distillery to catch up and ponder about the what ifs of life. Later, they are talking at Colby and Naomi’s housewarming party when Jenny learns about Sunny, and she is so awestruck with Ward’s steadfast love for his daughter that she claims a kiss, which gives way to smoking hot sex in the garage.

Oh, my stars, what glorious steaminess between Ward and Jenny Ali Parker has conjured up! We can’t help but root for their HEA as the wicked witch, aka, Gwen, tries to insert herself into their lives for selfish reasons, namely trying to keep them apart. Will our couple allow what happened in the past destroy what might be in the future, or will they fight for a second chance and become a family? Don’t miss this holiday romcom filled with love, hate, and quirky secondary characters who all play parts in the final denouement. Kudos to Parker for another beautifully written story!

Jenny and Ward were an item in high school until he dumped her for her best friend Gwen. Years later, they're reunited at a friend's wedding, where he was the best man and his six-year-old daughter was the flower girl. The heartbreak is still there along with the physical attraction. He's a single dad and has total custody of his daughter that he's raising with his Mom's help. Chemistry and old feelings take on a life of their own and they reconnect. Gwen, his ex, resurfaces and creates havoc. What about Jenny finding his daughter abandoned on a bench in a savory part of town? What happens when Gwen asks Sunny to be her flower girl? No shortage of drama, angst or twists. A great book that is hard to put down. Emotional and flips between being heartbreaking and heartwarming. What happens when he abandons Jenny to go check on Gwen. Plenty of angst and drama, but a great story line that will keep you guessing. I read an arc via the author and voluntarily chose to review it.

When Jenny and Ward meet up at their friends wedding their attraction to each other is still there. In the background though Jenny was unaware that his ex and her former friend had had a daughter together. Fortunately when Ward drops his daughter into their conversation Jenny is on board with how things are.
I admired Jenny’s character for how she acted so protectively towards his daughter.
There are some fun parts to the story. The description of them having a steamy session in the car and the struggles with Jenny’s leggings just made me laugh.
As for Ward, I felt his character had integrity with his daughter taking priority but I definitely felt he was out of order at his ex’s wedding. Communication with Jenny could have resolved the issue before it began but he just didn’t seem to think through his actions.
Fortunately his mum read it right and he took her advice so thankfully he and Jenny got their HEA.
Another great story from this author well worth reading.

Him Again? Ward and Jenny's story is really unique for sure! Not a story line I would have ever thought of. Very challenging. Yet these two pull it off with love and grace! What a steamy, heart loving relationship even with a 6 year old. These two will grab your heart and never let go! This is a second chance you don't want to miss. They meet back up where he is best man at his best friend's wedding. He's never gotten married and neither has she. He threw her away in middle school for her best friend, whom he had a daughter with, he never married her but he has full custody of Sunny!! Can Jenny ever trust Ward again? She strongly doubts it, but on the other hand he's grown up to be a very good man and father. There's another wedding coming. What a mess! This is a must read! Ali Parker doesn't disappoint, thank you for another 5 star in my eyes!!

This is a complex well-written story with complex well-drawn characters. It's Jenny and Ward's second chance at finding happiness together. To review this book properly would be overwhelming, how can you do justice to a book that is 545 pages long without it being?

If you have read the blurb you'll know what the gist of the story is, but the blurb doesn't tell you how complex the story and the characters are or how great the chemistry is between Jenny and Ward. They came together again after he broke her heart in high school by leaving her for her supposed friend Gwen, his daughter's mother. During a dance at the wedding of their mutual friends, Ward asks if she still hates him for their breakup, it's a question she doesn't answer.

I couldn’t help but want them to find their HEA this time but Gwen is still trying to keep them apart. Will they allow her to spoil their future for a second time?

It was good, I enjoyed myself - but it wasn't particularly memorable nor did it really grip me.

I loved the second chance trope, but I didn't particularly feel attached to it because I didn't have a sense of their history for me to understand how much they were still connected to each other. Their earlier relationship wasn't referenced in great depth so it felt like a high school dalliance, at best, and so I was wondering why Jenny was SO HUNG UP on it. It didn't really feel like they were dating seriously (or maybe it was one sided).

What threw me was the conflict in the latter half of the book. Jenny's reactions felt petty, Ward - i couldn't quite understand why he made the decision that he did. It just made me realize that there wasn't as consistent of a thread through the story, in terms of understanding the MCs.

Overall - absolutely recommend as a quick palate cleanser & I wouldn't think about it too much (like I clearly did!)

This is a brilliant second chance romance.
Jenny is shocked to come face to face with her ex high school sweetheart at a friend's wedding and what's even worse is that the girl he left her for is also there.
Ward can't believe that Jenny is in front of him but she soon runs away. He gets another chance to speak to her when she turns up in his new store. There is still a spark between them and they are soon spending time together. When she learns that he has a daughter she is shocked but even more so when it turns out his ex is the mother. He has sole custody but it isn't long before his ex is causing problems between them.
Can Jenny trust that he won't hurt her again especially with the mother of his daughter.
So many emotions and plenty of drama but also so much love.

Omg look, it’s him again!

Ward and Jenny were in love when they were young, but they didn’t make it through high school. He broke up with her and then was swayed by a bully named Gwen, who is his baby mama to Sunny, six-year old and a smart whip of a child. They meet again at a friend’s wedding where he is the best man and she’s just attending the wedding with her friends. Of course, they’re still attracted to each other, but can they still call it love? What a rocky road they travel, especially for Jenny. Can she ever trust him again? Their journey is so hot and steamy it could melt the pages you’re reading. They also have to deal with a lot with Ward’s ex, Gwen; a great addition to the storyline. This is a story you can dig into and not emerge from until it’s done.

This second chance story is the second story in this series. This story is about Jenny and Ward, who were together in high school. Gwen, who used to be Jenny's best friend, lured Ward away from Jenny in high school and this causes trust issues when Jeeny and Ward come back together. Ward doesn't want to deal with Gwen anymore, but they have a daughter together, Sunny. Gwen is a horrible parent and person, but I do kind of understand why Ward tries his best not to talk bad about her for Sunny's sake. I love the way that Jenny and Sunny connect and how Jenny tries to take it slow to make sure not to hurt Sunny in the relationship between Jenny and Ward. It did take Ward talking to his mom, who was an amazing character, to understand the mistake he was making with his future with Jenny.

Jenny and Ward were high school sweethearts until her best friend enters the picture and ends their relationship. Her best friend, Gwen, and Ward end up having a child together. When Ward learns what kind of person Gwen really is and that she never wanted a child, their relationship ends. Their daughter Sunnye is a sweet little girl and has her dad wrapped around her finger. Years later, Jenny sees Ward again at a wedding and sees it as his second chance. She may regret if she doesn't try again though Gwen shows up at the wedding as well. She is always up to no good. Good character development and a story that keeps you reading to the end.

Jenny and Ward have a love story that was halted due to a pretend friend’s sneaky ways. There was a point in the book that I was so glad when Wade admitted he was thinking with the wrong head. This book takes you through their lives with their background being interspersed throughout. Jenny is such a sweet woman who my heart went out to. She never got over Wade which made her reluctant to trust a man again. Their story is touching with some very realistic scenes. My favorite parts of the book are the characters development showing growth or lack of growth. Once I started reading I couldn’t put the book down!

Second chance romance between Jenny and Ward. They dated in high school, but he left her for her best friends. Years later they meet again at a friend’s wedding and even though the pain of him dumping her in high school is still there, the attraction is also there. Too bad an attraction is not enough for Jenny to open her heart fully to him. The trust was broken when he left her and moved onto her best friend. It will take time to trust him again, especially with his ex trying to get back into the picture. Being able to see them work their way back to each other while trying to work through their problems was great to experience. A roller coaster ride of emotions and drama and love that will keep you invested for the whole book.

Jenny fell in love with Ward when they were teenagers, but she was left with a broken heart when he ended their relationship to pursue one with her best friend. It will be years later before they see each other again at a wedding for mutual friends however not only is he there but so is Gwen, his ex and her ex best friend.

Ward realizes that the only good thing to come from his relationship with Gwen is his daughter Sunny. He was surprised to see Jenny but when fate brings them together once again he wants a second chance and his daughter is enchanted by her as well but the past isn’t about to let them go so easily.

Great chemistry, turmoil and all the feels as Jenny and Ward fight for their second chance.

This heartfelt story had me all caught up in Jenny and Ward as they reconnected after years away from each other. When he tossed her aside for another woman she was devastated and never really got over him so when she attended a wedding the last person, she wanted to be around was him. Will Ward and Jenny get a second chance to rekindle the love they once had, and will this time around lead them to the happiness they deserve. This story had me in their corner cheering them on.

Years later, Jenny was going to a wedding of high school friends, and Ward was the best man, and his six year old daughter was the flower girl. Gwen was in attendance but was definitely an ex.
This book grabbed me right from page one and inserted me in the middle of the story. From there, I was part of the cast of characters until the end of the book. I ❤️ loved this book, I think it is one of Ali's best ever. You won't regret reading it.

Latest in this series, and just delicious from start to finish. This is Jenny’s story and it starts at the wedding of her old school friends Naomi and Colby. While there she sees her ex-best friend from school, Gwen, who enticed her first boyfriend, and live away from her, Ward. And then she sees him! Could things get any worse??! This is a second chance romance with the twist of a single dad too. I loved this story and couldn’t wait to see how things would turn out. I received this book as an ARC.

Wow, what a wonderfully written story with absolutely amazing characters. It’ll grab you from the very beginning and won’t let you go until the very end. Jenny and Ward were in a high school relationship until they weren’t due to a so-called best friend. Now it looks like they are getting a second chance. You feel like you’re part of their lives as they reconnect at a wedding. There’s drama, angst, twists and a definite physical attraction. It’s an emotional rollercoaster with highs and lows but it will keep you glued to those pages. You won’t be able to put it down.

I received a free copy of the lengthy steamy Dallas set novel Him Again?: A Girl’s Bestie Rom Com by Ali Parker and this review was given freely.
Easy-flowing with realistic characters, touches of humor, a fair amount of drama, and some steamy scenes.

Reluctantly reunited at a friend’s wedding, Jenny Hasley struggles with expanding her organic tea business; her growing feelings for billionaire single father Ward Emerson and his cute daughter Sunny; and the vindictiveness of her narcissistic high school nemesis Gwen, Sunny’s mother.
18+ for steamy scenes

Just loved this book. This is a delightful story that is so well told by Ali Parker. It has all the elements that brings a smile to your face and a giggle to your heart as you are reading the love story of Ward & Jenny. This is the second book in the series and has such well developed characters in a basic second chance at love. Ward's daughter Sunny, is a highlight in this story, with witty repartee that keeps you wanting more. All the support from friends & family are hoping that this relationship works this time around. Perfect book for a nice lazy day. Loved it!!
