Steven, aboard a sailing ship en route from Malaya to Hong Kong with his family, awakens to find himself injured and being nursed by a native woman he does not know. Where is his family? The other shipmates? How did he get to be here with this stranger? Suddenly it all came flooding back in a renewed burst of awareness...Pirates! Steven desperately needed to know what had happened to his father, mother and sister. Were they safe with natives like himself? When would he be able to see them again? As this woman tended to his wounds, he became drowsy and sank back into a deep sleep, still wondering when he would see his people again.
Such a good read. I have always loved Norma Youngberg's mission stories. While this one is not a typical mission story, it is filled with adventure, treasure, and the devotion of family.
An amazing adventure story that has the flavor of Swiss Family Robinson & is reportedly true. However - this story does not have the missional spiritual focus of other books by this author & does include head hunting & some pretty spiritualistic topics without the counterbalance of Godly things to explain them.
The story is interesting and the writing is good but this is more morbid than her other books and has nothing to do with God. It also somewhat glorifies fighting and being the best and the strongest. Because of the gore though, I had to stop reading it to my 6 year old who loves the other missionary books she writes.
