Getting sucked through a portal and spat out on an alien planet was not how I saw my Saturday unfolding. Stranded with no money, no shelter, I’m surrounded by the worst and wealthiest the galaxy has to offer.
Now, what’s a girl gotta do to snag a ticket back to Earth?
I’m juggling five jobs like it’s a circus act because I can’t wait around for a knight in a shining spacesuit to save me. Yet when Dommik, the new courier, literally crashes in during my break, I’m reminded of how I may need saving in… other ways.
He’s rude, with muscles to spare and a panty-dropping grin he wields like a pro. His crimson skin, mystical sigils, and sinful tricks are nearly irresistible and he knows it. He’s drawing me in faster than a sugar-fiend to a stash of cinnamon candies.
I have to remind myself it’s just a fling, because nothing can lure me off my path. I’m determined, stubborn, and I have to make it back to Earth before it’s too late.
Even if Dommik seems hell-bent on stealing my heart.
Poppy is a small-town American girl, living in a tiny Canadian hamlet, who spends her days pounding on the keyboard, drinking tea, and living one step outside of reality. Her retirement plan is to be abducted by the aliens she writes about, but for now, she enjoys life with her husband, their three cats, and when she’s not getting sucked into cute animal videos, you can normally find her with her nose in a book.

I actually really liked Piper and her inability to keep her mouth shut and be suave. Domikk was a good match for her and brought that BDE. I really liked his ronjin, cuz y’all know I’m a fan of any unique alien anatomy type thing. Self cloning-ish stuff? Yes please!
Spice: 4/5
Triggers: poverty, cancer, mentions of criminal organizations, medical emergency - severe allergic reaction
Damaged Goods is in reference to his missing horn or baggage?
I wanted more background, more on the AI, more angst and twisting emotional conflict, more danger and stakes from the criminal element, and more ‘why choose’ because this dude has 7 sides to his personality. So, that’s why this isn’t higher rated; it could be more and really crushed it. I also didn’t read any of the other authors’ book in the collaboration series.
But…
The smut is good, though a bit pedantic. There is almost a cozy aspect to this, in comparison to Ruby Dixon’s Risdaverse, but it has all the markers of a really good, intense, and long alien romance. I’m interested and will see what else Poppy Rhys has.
These devil like aliens are a hoot to keep revisiting. Tall, red, built and able to split into 7 different versions, each one representing a sin....😋😍. And even though Piper as a character was a little bit much at times she was tempered with a great self awareness. The MMC was a little too on the nose beefcake but his vulnerability created a sweet spot. Their burn might have been slow but there was a high heat romance. The whole read was a fun little diversion and ride.
Excuse me what. The sugar… the spice… I CANNOT. I absolutely LOVEDDDD this. Poppy has such a fun writing style that sucks you in and characters you will fall head over heels for. A demon like alien who is actually like 7 entities (think seven deadly sins… mhmm delicious) and a sweet and silly human girl (with pink hair, I DIEEE) who gets sucked into an alien world when her cell phone bugs out. “This is just a fling” kinda love story and I am HERE FOR IT. Must read. One of my favorite alien romances.
Haven’t read anything like this before and I have to say it was really quite good. I felt the story flowed well and I was intrigued about what was going to happen.
I do have to mention that I absolutely loved the main characters grandma, she was just hilarious and I would happily read a whole book just on her
A sweet love story! Piper wants nothing more than to get back to Earth for her granny. She takes it well when undercover agents trick her into helping them out, delaying her trip home. I admire her ability to maintain a calm appearance while in a dangerous position. I love her bubbly, yet forthright, personality. Dommik is fascinated by Piper. It’s delightful to see how often he makes up a reason to see her. These Drevedi males are quite an interesting package deal! Piper finds her daydreams about Dommik don’t nearly match the real thing! This is a quick read, with laughs, excitement, and a sweet romance. Entertaining - a must read!
This was a very sweet and spicy romance with a very slight bit in the undercover stuff. While the idea was present, there wasn't really a lot of the mobster stuff going on, which is fine, since I'm not into gangster/agent romances, but being the whole theme of the book, I expected more of that. Instead it was secret glances, a slow burn, constant flirting, and a good amount of Spice at the end. Warning, though, even though he may have some "extra" don't expect any DP. I was a bit disappointed by the lack of that, cuz like, I don't see the point in having "extra" if you're not gonna use the "extra" but whatever. Time to look elsewhere, lol. Despite my grumbling, it was a good book, and had a HEA.
I started this and had a hard time getting into it, so paused after about 35-40% through. Picked it back up and really liked the second half, so that averages out to a high 3 stars.
Very well-developed world, a nice take on the portal/abduction trope and what might happen if you're abandoned in an alien society with no means to get home and no convenient mate to take care of you. Piper was doing her best to survive and make it back home, and at first she's not about to let a hot dude distract her! Dommik took a while for me to warm up to, he seemed too arrogant at first (I think? It's been about a month since I started this!). I did come around to liking him in the end, and I liked how his different aspects were characterized.
It’s cute, funny and quirky just like the first book, however I didn’t enjoy it as much. Part of that is because the author sticks the two leads together based on a criminal investigation, however that story line is kind of something just tossed in to draw the leads together.
It’s not really fleshed out and down right tossed away in the last chapter. To add to this the FMC has spent a year busting her butt to save for a ticket to get back to earth. Only in the epilogue to learn that MMC could have gotten her home months ago for free since his family owns a travel line. It took a lot away from the story for me as, it felt like he could have helped the FMC way earlier, but didn’t.

3.5 stars. I did enjoy this but seven cocks is at least four too many for me. Tbh, it was too many for the author - she never accounted for all of them in a spicy scene and only ever "used" one at a time.
What I enjoyed: the thought experiment about how you'd have to get your life together if you were portaled into life as a literal undocumented alien in an intergalactic society. The multiple off the record odd jobs resonated.

This was such a delightful, delicious and refreshing read. A perfect palette cleanser filled with romance, tension and humor. Our FMC was strong and stood up for herself. Our MMC was delicious (in several ways) and they were a great match for each other. I will definitely be reading more from this author if her writing is anything like it was in this book. The perfect length and the steam was fun!
I’d give it 3.5-4 Dommik was hot! I definitely enjoy reading about the Drevdi. This could be a whole series on its own. The spice & chemistry between him and Piper was hot! Was it as emotionally tender as Lore’s story? No, but she didn’t have the closet quirk I never understood. Overall, an enjoyable read with very steamy scenes.
Great story I loved it and granny she made me lol I didn’t think I was going to like this story because of the picture of the front but never judge a book but it’s cover🙃👍
This book was short and sweet. That was definitely the appeal of it. I loved the plot as-well giving us readers a bit of drama. The spicy scenes were top notch and the FL & ML were excellent. 8/10(151pgs)🍦
This was a cute portal novella with some interesting characters and spice. It lost the political plot at the end without addressing what happened with the investigation or how the couple ends where they are.
This book was a perfect short read. The characters were likable from the start and there was a perfect balance of fluff and smut. Finished it in one sitting!
This book was fun! The author got the assignment. I wanted a low angst, monster-romance style cozy book with steam. This delivered. I rated this 5 stars because I got exactly what was promised! The pacing was good which isn't always easy with a novella. The characters were developed and I cared about them in the short amount of time I had with them. I especially found the MMC unique. And the steam was hot!
I could not put this book down. The characters, the plot, the world building… Just everything pulled me in. I will for sure check out more books by Poppy Rhys.
I really enjoy Poppy Rhys' books, even if I don't enjoy them equally, I usually have a pretty good time. Damaged Goods is included in the second series for the Shattered Gallaxies. I did like the first book, Crushed Dominion better, but this was not bad. Major issues for me were, pacing was slow, and the subplot distracted from the couple and then didn't even feel resolved at the end. Three stars, but a solid three.
