The Sun Stone & the Hybrid Prince

Rate this book
Adria thought stealing the Sun Stone would be easy. The Ice Dragons didn’t even put any guards in the room.

That’s okay.

That’s why she went through the walls. She almost snuck away with the magical artifact...that is until Belian, the Hybrid Prince, catches her stealing the stone.

Belian chases the thief, which ends with a cave in and the Sun Stone, which always reveals truths. Mistrusting the pirate, he's not sure if he should allow Adria to leave with the stone once he knows the truth of why she needs it. Yet, he’s drawn to her, and the adventure she promises.

They soon learn the truths of their own attractions and feelings for the other while their sexy adventure continues after the cave in—flying with dragons, swimming with mermaids, and facing off with the Sea Witch.

A perfect mix of enemies-to-lovers and high fantasy with a twist.

Adria wants the Sun Stone to help heal her disease. Lian doesn't happen to like that Adria's heist is happening at the same time Lian's people have the Ice Dragons around to negotiate peace. Set on stopping her, little do the two know where this adventure will lead them.

S.D. Huston's The Sun Stone & the Hybrid Prince was a fantastic read with a steady flow and perfect plot that melds each genre, and each trope well and doesn't feel cluttered or too much. The elemental system of magic was easy to understand adding an individuality to Huston's novella. I also loved the dual POVs as they added depth to Adria and Lian's characters and the story.

The Sun Stone & the Hybrid Prince was a fantastic read that is perfect for any high-fantasy fan who enjoys a quick read.

Thank you, Booksprout and author, S.D. Huston for sending me an ARC in exchange for my honest review.

This book was hard to rate. 4.5 stars for the first 2/3 and 3 for the last third.

What I thought of the first 2/3: Unique book that had enough allusions to past events a full novel could be created to come before it. If a bit of side plot was included this short story would make a wonderful full length novel with more time planing/ pedicuring the starting event and a bit more going on between the romantic interests and main character! The world wasn't fully described to us but seemed solidly fleshed out but the writer and I was super interested to find out more of the different magics etc.

What I thought of the last third: this is the point I realized this was a retelling. It made me wonder how much of the start of the story was original as I'd not read the base story this was a retelling of. The story felt like it pivoted, the character building to this point and dynamics and everything was just paused. Things from that point forwards seemed to either be standard or pop up so out of nowhere (not enough lead up/ explanations and main character just was like- this is normal) as to pull me out of the story.

I my mind saw so many different directions the story could have gone once the three made it to the destination!

Received an ARC for this book.
I have to say.. I absolutely loved it! I'm so used to books about Fae with all the characters being perfect and it was such a nice change to read this one where characters are flawed and make me not feel like I'm some unattractive being in comparison.
The FMC was a delight in terms of attitude and in terms of her 'flaws'. It's time for scars, skin conditions and pain conditions to be acknowledged by all.
Her predicament was intriguing but I was left puzzled as to why exactly she was cursed to begin with?
The romance element of this story was an enemies to lovers, it's a short story, so there's only so much pace you can set within that time, so it's a little fast, I'd say more like a dislike to lovers perhaps?
There's a little smut, at the end, I wasn't expecting it in a short book so was surprised, but very much enjoyed XD
Some of the plot was quite interesting, and I wish the book had been longer to go over it all more thoroughly, because I really did enjoy learning about the different gods, and was left curious about different things.
Also.. leaving us on a cliff hanger.. how very dare you.
This is probably one of the shortest stories I've read, but it's also the best.
It gives me Little Mermaid vibes in some aspects. if you know you know.
Solid 4* for this one, will recommend.

A Water fae pirate and a human/fae prince

Adria is determined to steal the Sun Stone to help heal her disease. Lian's people have brought it to the Ice Dragons to help with the peace negotiations and he's not happy about her trying to steal it; but he can't help think there's more about her that he needs to know. She just enjoys antagonising him.

A lovely slow-build romance; really well told with great chemistry between the characters, drama, action, mystery, deceit light humor, and a great HEA. I loved the hint in the epilogue of more books to follow as there's more to know about the God Stones.

I received a free copy of this book and am voluntarily leaving a review.

Received a copy from LibraryThing Early reviews program, thank you!!

A fantastic quick read!! A pirate attempting to steal a magic artifact to heal her curse, a half human half fae prince set on stopping her. Not only will the Sun Stone help cure her, it will also reveal truths and lies of the holder.

Loved the dual POV in this one! The easy romance wasn’t over the top, and believable on how they fell into each other!

Enjoyed the magic system, the elemental aspect is easy to understand, if the book were longer would love slight elaboration.

I have not read other works by this author, but thoroughly enjoyed my short time in this world.

I didn't particularly care for this book. For one, I didn't think that it was very original. The Sea Witch seemed like a meld of Ursula from The Little Mermaid and the Borg Queen from Star Trek. She also wanted to collect jewels that together would bring about chaos very like the gauntlet in Guardians of the Galaxy. I also found some of the scenes to be confusing. The descriptions of the characters did not sound very attractive, but the illustrations made them look gorgeous! I am sure that there are fantasy/ steamy romance readers who will like this book, but it just wasn't my thing. I got this book as an advance readers copy from Voracious Readers.

A water fae pirate and a half human, half moon fae prince, both needing the Sun stone. Adria needed the God stone for healing herself, and Lian needed it for keeping peace. I enjoyed the descriptions of the lands, waters, and its inhabitants. Adria and Lian both need and want the stone for different reasons. Someone else wants that stone and all the other God stones for their own reasons. A bargain has been made, and happiness is found, but then, deceit rears its ugly head. But, that is for another time. I enjoyed the story

I really liked this one. It was a pretty quick read and everything had a steady flow to it. This is a part of the same world as A Curse of Scales and Feathers and takes place before it. You can read them in any order really as they're separate stories. There's some sex there at the end but it really doesn't have much in details, there's enough to get what they're doing but it isn't the focus. It's a good story and I really want to see more from this time before the Brides of the Dragon Kings takes place.

I picked up a copy completely randomly and complementary from the author via Voracious Readers Only (the author also offers it to subscribers).

It was a really good read - honestly often I steer clear of explicit spicy content however this one wasn't too over the top. It was a decent enemies to lovers and I felt like I could understand the perspective of the two characters and how they drew nearer and nearer to each other.

A lot of lore to quickly wrap your head around but the author does a great job in ensuring no detail is missed!

Received as an ARC, I am leaving my honest review. Captivating and gripping, this story answers questions you might have had after reading the Brides of the Dragon King series. Understanding the history of the now infamous pirate and her journey opens your heart just a bit more. The blooming love will pull you into the web of deceit and bravery as Adria seeks to be cured of her painful curse. But the cure is at the hands of the Sea Witch and a dangerous mission. Her success will be determined by fate, which leads to an epic ending!

A fun, fast paced fantasy romance with plenty of adventure. The Sun Stone & the Hybrid Prince delivers dragons, magic, and a strong enemies-to-attraction dynamic in a compact novella format. The worldbuilding is imaginative and the chemistry is clear, even with the shorter length. While I wished a few moments had more room to breathe, it was an entertaining, steamy read that kept me engaged from start to finish. Great pick if you’re looking for a quick fantasy romance with action and a guaranteed HEA.

The Sun Stone & the Hybrid Prince is a glowing fantasy full of magic, identity, and just the right amount of emotional tug. The Hybrid Prince is impossible not to root for—caught between worlds, expectations, and his own becoming.

The Sun Stone shines with beauty and danger, and the story balances heartfelt moments with adventure and charm. The relationships feel warm, sincere, and wonderfully human, reminding us that love isn’t about saving someone—it’s about seeing them.

Perfect for readers who want fantasy with feeling, a touch of whimsy, and a hero who grows into his light. 🌞✨📖

I find this story fascinating between Adria A water fae pirate and Lian moon fae human. Adria who takes an artifact a gift from the sun god. As a water fae the two people already had an alliance with the moon fae, the two peoples united under the same winter season. If it wasn’t for her blisters, Adria would wanted to beat Lian at his own war for the sun stone.

I liked this book. It galloped along and I had trouble putting it down. The world was interesting and I’m interested in the rest of the books in the series. The characters were pretty typical fantasy protagonists, very tough and overcoming lots of obstacles. There are some sexual descriptions in it, so be aware if that is offensive. The author has a great writing style and is easy to read.

I really enjoyed this book, though it was shorter than I am used to it kept me engaged. I loved the magic system. The setting was wonderful and I love the fact that the story was told for each characters perspective. There was action, intrigue and romance. This book was well written and would be a joy for any one who loves fantasy.

A really short easy read. It had an intriguing premise and I thought it was interesting how the author created a world where woman were the ones with power and men were meant to not be heard or seen. I think this could be good for someone that might want to read fantasy but not have to deal with the length commonly seen in fantasy novels.

It did some nice world building, but it felt like it was lacking some of the larger components (and like you were supposed to know some components from other books even though this is a stand alone novel). It was fine, felt like the plot moved faster than it should have. I was provided a free copy from Voracious Readers Only.

This novella tells the tale of a fae pirate with a cursed disease, making it impossible for her skin to be touched without pain. She steals the Sun Stone from the dragons hoping to lift the curse, but her plan shifts when the Hybrid Prince decides he needs to tag along. I enjoyed this fast-paced novel and the twists and turns that accompany it. This is a genre I navigate towards, with the thrill of adventure hooking me in from page one. I had an easy time with the author's voice throughout the story and felt it was perfect for young adults.
There was character growth, realizations, and betrayals which gave me The Little Mermaid mixed with Treasure Planet vibes. I am interested in the next books and recommend this one to anyone looking for adventure.

Quick read with a Little Mermaid twist. I enjoyed the first 3/4 of this novella, but all of a sudden, it felt like it was rushing to end. There was a lot happening on the page in different timelines and it took a bit to understand what was going on. It ended leaving many open questions. Curious where their story will lead in future novellas/novels in the Brides of the Dragon Kings universe.

I liked the beginning, but I hated the ending. I don’t understand what Najla did to deserve this? We have very limited information about her, and most of the characters actually. As soon as the Sea Witch entered the story, it went in all directions. Writing is good, but overall this felt underdeveloped.

I received an advance copy of this book and I leave this review voluntarily.

I liked it, but it should be way longer. Everything is surface level. Maybe in the next book the world is better explored and described, but these characters won't be there, so they will forever remain shallow. The ending was unsatisfying, there were way too many loose ends.

Quick fast paced fantasy story. I liked that the MFC Adria had a skin condition that caused her embarrassment. It was a nice dynamic to put in the story seeing how she felt with it and how others reacted to her. Usually in fantasy stories all the MC are physically perfect.

Probably just not my thing. Dunno what I expected from a fae romance. I think maybe I would have given it another star, but the last 3rd of the story was some kind of strange Little Mermaid fanfic... I felt really bad for the mermaid girl, although presumably what happened to her comes up again in the future books.

This is an adventurous story of Adria and Belian, that battle each other when she steals the sun stone. She has a terrible disease and needs the sun stone to cure herself. He is a hybrid prince chasing the thief who stole this precious gem. I like the characters who are strong willed. This story is guaranteed with a happy ending but does have a cliffhanger at the end.

Pretty interesting, though towards the end it wasn't as good in my opinion. Also the one spicy scene wasn't written to my personal standards for spice.
