I have so much love for Anna Augustine's books. They're always so good. She switches genres so well, writing both amazing fantasy romance and amazing contemporary romance.

This is my second favourite book from her (my absolute favourite being By Blood and Blade). It has such a great cast of characters. It's not a shocking story, but it still holds itself up as a great example of what adult romance novels can be. I don't read a lot of them, but when I do I like them to be exactly like this.

If you like second chance romance set in a small town, this will tick the boxes for you.

Hockey romances are still somewhat new to me, but I love them, and this one was so sweet and enjoyable. I loved the history between Molly and Tanner and the close relationships they each had with the other's family. Plus, the way they loved their students and hockey team members was refreshing—they didn’t let their stress over the job (or each other) affect the way they interacted with the students. They simply showed up for them and reminded them through their actions and encouragement that they were loved.

Overall, I so enjoyed this book! I really enjoyed the flashbacks to give us insight into younger Molly and Tanner, but the way they cut into the current story threw me off a couple of times, so just be prepared for that. I didn’t feel like they took away from the story as a whole.

As far as content, there are a few kisses (lol autocorrect had “misses” and I had spotty reception when I wrote this 😂—that will teach me to write when I have more time to fine tune before I post) and descriptions of desire, but it’s not explicit. There’s one curse word (the d-word) that I remember, but it made sense to me in context.

If you’re looking for a sweet, second chance hockey romance, this is a delightful read!

This was a fun and swoony second-chance, small-town romance. A perfect weekend or beach read.

Former high school loves have been through college and the NHL. An injury has changed Tanner’s life and brought him back home. Can he/will he right the wrongs of the past? And will Molly forgive and move forward?
I can see that it will be a series of friends with their own stories. I’m looking forward to the next one!
For readers who love swoon without “heat.” And for fans of Cindy Steel.

Y’all, this book was so adorable! Anna is one of my all-time favourite writers, making her books an automatic buy for me, and I am over the moon about this one!

First up, COVER LOVE! Because it’s so perfectly Molly & Tanner. 😍

Second chances just might be in the works for literature teacher Molly and the ex-hockey player turned high school hockey coach Tanner. He left once before and broke her heart—can she open her heart to trust him a second time?

Watching Tanner take responsibility for his mistakes & seeing Molly soften towards him was so beautiful to see. I loved the way the flashbacks moved between past and present; we get to see who they *were* but also what they’ve become. Character growth was absolutely *chefs kiss*!

The romance was so adorably sweet with natural attraction (but not over the top) and strong character & emotional dynamics. They had forgiveness & mistakes to work through, but they’re get there and have you rooting for them with every step!

As much as I love Molly and Tanner (this is a rom-com after all!), I LOVE the community feeling Anna so poignantly captured! The solid friendships. The supportive and healthy family dynamics. The sibling banter. The students supporting their teachers/coaches. The overall “we have your back” feeling. *cue all the feels* 🥹

And those last few chapters? Yeah, I was totally tearing up when there’s so much on the line and so much heart packed into the pages. I finished smiling & teary and would have hugged the book if it were a physical copy (hugging a kindle just isn’t the same). 😭💛

If you loved the hockey rom-coms of Courtney Walsh, Emma St. Clair, Jenny Proctor, Latisha Sexton, M.J. Padgett, or Dulcie Dameron, you’ll enjoy this one, too!

Anna Augustine crafted another world I can’t wait to return to again & again & again! 💛

* I received an ARC copy of this book from the author. I was not required to write a positive review. These are my honest thoughts and opinions.

Anna doesn’t write a book that isn’t amazing. This is one of them. Molly and Tanner were so darn cute. Friends to lovers to exs to lovers again. Molly was so cold and shut off towards Tanner when he came back home after his career ending injury. Mollys luck that he was the new hockey coach and his desk was in the back of her classroom. I loved watching the walls come down around Mollys frozen heart towards Tanner. The plot twist at the end wasn’t what I was expecting but it turned out hilariously awesome.
Thank you Anna for my arc copy. These words are my own.

3.5-4. A cozy romance. As a sports player growing up, I loved the way the author wrote about hockey, tryouts, professional sports, etc. Overall, I also enjoyed Molly and Tanner and their relationship. I do wish there was more on Tanner’s side about his struggle leaving the NHL and how he felt betrayed and didn’t know who he was anymore. The author set this up nicely at the beginning as something he was working through, but it didn’t really come up again. Also, there were times where I felt the main characters didn’t act their ages. Just my opinion. Overall, I enjoyed the story, and the author set it up nicely for the next one with Emily, Molly’s roommate.

I have never read a Clean Sport Romance as good as this! The characters were written amazingly.
We had an awesome plot.
It moved at a good pace.
We had a few suspenseful moments that took a good turn. All in all I would totally recommend this book!

This was such a sweet, wholesome second-chance romance! 😁 I really enjoyed Molly and Tanner’s characters. They both had their fears and struggles to deal with, and I appreciated that Tanner wasn’t just immediately forgiven for leaving her. Their chemistry was great and the ending so satisfying! Also the scene where she was sick and he cared for her was precious. 🥹

They often didn’t act their age though. They’re supposed to be in their early-mid twenties but acted like hormonal teenagers a lot of the time. In the beginning, Molly would yell at him over the littlest of things and stomp away and I was just like chill girl! 😅 Anna has written fantasy books before this and I absolutely LOVED them, so this is nothing against her writing skills, but I feel like going from that to a romcom she tried too hard and a lot of the writing came off as childish and cringy. That plus the couple cuss words I was shocked to see made me give it 4 stars.

That being said, I am looking forward to the next book and where Anna takes her characters! 😁 I know she’ll only get better and I did really enjoy On Thin Ice!

Well Anna Augustine did it again!

This was my first “second chance” romance and it was so fun! This book definitely got some reactions out of me (AKA screams… lots of screams) it was the perfect balance of light fluffy reading while still allowing the characters to have some depth. Thank you so much for the E-ARC! (Also Tanner Bradshaw is the new standard 😂)

Summary
It's Molly's first day as a teacher, and things are not going according to plan. Not only is her ex-boyfriend, Tanner Bradshaw, back in town; not only is he also employed by the high school; but he's been given the back of her classroom as his office space after a plumbing issue in his own office. Five years earlier, he broke her heart. She's not giving him a chance to do it again. But her heart isn't getting the memo.

Tanner is also chagrined by the first-day-of-school situation. He's well aware that he hurt Molly by his departure five years earlier. He has no problem admitting to himself that he was stupid and ruined a good thing, but he has no idea how to fix it. So he watches Molly teach literature (the subject she loves) and plans his first season of coaching hockey (the sport that they both love) and tries not to make the same mistakes all over again.

My Thoughts
The opening of this book, which shows Tanner and Molly's five-year-earlier breakup, was rough for me. It felt overly melodramatic. Thankfully, once the the agsty prologue was out of the way, things improved. I ended up reading the entire book in one sitting. It had the comfortable, fluffy familiarity of watching a romcom with just enough substance to prevent it from feeling stupid or too much like a Hallmark movie.

Content
Romance: Tanner and Molly share non-descriptive kisses and admire one another's attractiveness (though the author keeps this sweet and relatively infrequent considering the genre).
Language: Some swearing is implied but not spelled out.
Violence: A few hocky players get into a fight. No one is hurt.
Religion: Characters pray before eating.

This was a cute and swoony second chance hockey romance!
The writing style reads very pleasantly!

Molly and Tanner are two loveable main characters with a bit of history together.
They start out as friends-to-lovers, then they become exes, and then they end up being a little bit "enemies"-to-lovers. Because of that whole dynamic, it is a slow burn, but a very entertaining one!

There's also a bit of a redemption arc for Tanner. While he made mistakes in the past, they can be somewhat understandable, and he really tries his best to do things differently this time.

I really enjoyed Molly and Tanner's banter. They were evenly matched! When Molly's frozen heart started to melt, they were just cute together.
There's a scene where he takes care of her when she's sick, really adorable.

I also especially liked how they both cared very much for their students. I enjoyed those interactions also a lot!

Furthermore, I loved the twists, and sometimes I sat there thinking, "Oh no....that will go wrong," and then I really wanted to read what happened next.

Only one minor thing for me: while the flashbacks were definitely cute, they sometimes took me a bit out of the moment/ it interrupted the pacing a little. That's probably just a personal thing.

But I absolutely enjoyed this cute, funny, and caring romance story!!

I have thoughts. But to quote Michael Scott, "I'm not very articulate today" because I can only think about Molly and Tanner and how sad I am that it's over.
I read this in 48 hours, something I haven't done in a very long time, and I know I won't stop thinking (and smiling) about this one for a while.

This one didn’t work for me y’all. I had major issues with the writing style and plot choice. The characters felt like teenagers rather than adults with the way they spoke to each other. And how some of the side characters interacted with them too. All of the conflict came from high school students, once again, making this feel like a young adult book when it was supposed to be adult.

The bones of this story were there, but I had too many things taking me out of the story to ever feel invested.

Overall audience notes:
- Contemporary Romance
- Language: none
- Romance: kisses

I received a free copy of this book and am voluntarily leaving a review. This is the first book of the author's that I've read and I would like to read more from her. This is book 1 in the Accidentally in Love Series and can be read as a standalone. The book's blurb is straightforward. On Thin Ice is told through Molly and Tanner's pov and is a sweet second chance hockey romance.

Though Molly's breakup with Tanner made her question things about herself, her dedication to becoming a literature teacher didn't change and is something that she's looking forward to. Being able to teach at her old high school is exciting for her until she realizes that Tanner will also be teaching there. After an injury ended his hockey career, Tanner has returned home to figure out his next steps. Living in a small town, he knew he wouldn't escape Molly but he wasn't counting on being in such close proximity. As they spend time together, they must ask themselves if the past is something they can overcome and start anew.

Because of the way that things ended between them, the romance was a slow burn. I liked the flashbacks and how they made Molly and Tanner easy to understand. They were teenagers when they first dated and Molly's feelings about herself will make readers for her. However readers will feel about Tanner's actions, his honesty about the situations made him likeable to me. I also liked how he knew that reconciliation with Molly wouldn't be something he could achieve quickly. Even when Molly was set against him, there was plenty of tension and chemistry between them. The romance was a clean one consisting of descriptive, but not steamy, kissing and no cursing was used. Aside from the romance, I liked the school setting and how caring of a teacher and coach Molly and Tanner were. I liked seeing him adjust to life as a coach. I also liked their families and the friendships that Molly had. Overall, I enjoyed this book and am looking forward to reading more from this author and series.

I love the concept of this book. Anna wrote the story and feelings and personalities of these characters so well. I adore a man who cares deeply for people and is a little protective. Tanner was that man and his story matures so nicely. Molly is a relateable girly. Like same, that's where my thoughts would be, too. My girl goes on an absolute journey of emotions and I supported her in every stage. I actually really enjoyed this second chance romance and was so pleased that is was sweet and clean. The only letdown for me was the language content. I was very disappointed with the amount of language that was used. I understand different cultures and denominational groups have different standards of what is acceptable, but I did not see the need for any of the language used to make this an enjoyable read, especially some of the replacement words.

Content guide:
Language - 5 uses of crap(py), 2 uses of holy, 4 uses of freaking, 9 uses of dang, 13 uses of heck, 2 uses of geez, 7 uses of gosh, 7 uses of sweet mercy
- 1 use of p*ssed
- mentions of unspoken curses and an unwritten derogatory term

Sexual content - a few barely detailed kisses

Other content - a mention of Miley Cyrus' Wrecking Ball
- a mention of Harry Potter and magic wands
- a few other mentions of media, books, and popular songs

The moment you pick up On Thin Ice, Anna Augustine will have you curled up under a blanket drinking hot cocoa. You will not want to put this book down.

Molly and Tanner’s love-hate relationship is relatable and swoon-worthy. From their teenage break-up to growing up to their wanting a second chance at a love lost, you’ll cheer at their victories, chide them when they don’t trust their instincts, rally for them when others seek to shatter their renewed relationship, and swoon at foot rubs and kisses.

Molly and Tanner find themselves on staff at the same school, five years after Tanner left Molly behind as he left to follow his NHL dreams. He has to convince Molly that he's sorry - and that he's grown up from the 18yo boy who left her in a note.

What I loved:
Second Chance
Forced Proximity (on some levels)
Teenage characters who grow

There are several flashbacks scattered throughout. These weren't my favorite, but they did give glimpses into the foundation and growth in Molly and Tanner's high school relationship.

A Cute Second Chance Romance

I loved this small town second chance romance. Two lovely humans reconnecting. Their care for the kids on the hockey team and inter-generation relationships added to this sweet, no spice but good kissing romance.

After breaking up in high school, a new literature teacher and the new hockey coach work through old friendships and hurts. A second chance contemporary romance.

This book was a quick read for me. A cute romance with focus on forgiveness, reconciliation, family, and small communities.
The romance and relationship were cute. A few of the side characters were very fun. I felt some of the excitement and exhaustion about the beginning of the school year from my own experience post student teaching.
I liked the background we got on the main characters from the flashbacks.
It was also very fun to see a reference to The Gray Haven’s band that I was not expecting.

I wasn’t a huge fan of the formatting of the flashbacks. While I liked the content of them, they felt like they interrupted scenes sometimes and I had to do a little bit of work to get back in when the flashback was over. This very much comes down to personal preference.
The end conflict felt a little speedy but all the strings were nicely tied up and we got a cute, satisfying finale.

What readers might like to know:
The book is very clean. There are several kisses and gentle descriptions of longing, light awareness of lips/biceps/clothing. Nothing explicit and no open or closed door scenes.
There is no explicit language. Nothing goes beyond “they cursed” or “string of expletives”
