I've been a finalist in the IAN book contest with MrPerfect.com, book I. I'm an awarding winning photographer, first place in the Canvas Pontiac contest. I've written Mr.Perfect.com, book II. My latest book, Love and Nightmares was published on 05/11/2023.
I've lived in five different states and 11 different homes, I think if I remembered all. Family members have passed, four dogs passed, and I survived Covid. I have made many friends along the way. I'm a tough ol bird, as the saying goes.
My husband and two Boston Terriers are now living a good retired life in a 114-year-old farmhouse in a small town in South Georgia. Life is good.
I had a hard time deciding how to review this book. At first I thought it was just another story of sex, but then I think back to the sixties and seventies and remember what a different world it was. People who didn't live then don't know but a lot of girls and guys hitchhiked across country and did what they had to for money. In the story Dawn Sharkey is doing something like that, She finds herself in a lot of strange situations, usually with sex and drugs involved. Although I found the novel a bit wordy, I also found myself thinking back in time and I think this author may have seen a few things a lot of people haven't.
K.D. Bloodworth takes us through her heroine’s eyes on an adventurous journey through the 60s and 70s, in a story from which sex, fun and heartache aren’t missing. Dawn is a daring young woman and her impulsivity takes her on the meanders of danger and thrill, by turns, until she manages to find her way and become the person she really wants to be. But until then, she enjoys herself by GOING NOWHERE FAST….
At the start, based around the 60s and 70s it has all of what you would expect from that time in history. The dominant lady in this story tries it all. She's very daring.
Will what she does bring regrets. Will what happened bring misery or contentment.
I find her a strong woman, a bit weak in other parts, but that sums most of us up right?
The author tells a good story that keeps you flicking page after page.
The tale being told here is all about Dawn, a young girl growing up in the turbulent era of the late sixties. Drugs and alcohol are the norm, running free the desire of pretty much everybody. Dawn lives in small town America, where everybody knows every one, and all of your business is headline news. School and work are the requisite activities and hanging out smoking pot and drinking some pilfered beers are what the teens do. Yet Dawn seeks something more, and steps out on a journey to grow. Many readers are calling this a "coming of age" story and to some it may seem that way, but for me, it went nowhere, literally. Dawn is looking for something, but while she is looking the world is slipping right by, and while you could argue that the era was like that, I know enough from listening to my parents, aunts, uncles, and family friends as I grew up in the seventies to know there was a lot going on around the world. The story fell flat, like a day old beer left in the sun. The characters, Dawn and her various men, should have had more "character" and I expected more. The plot was definitely there, but managed to frequently get lost, in the various changes of the men in Dawn's life. I liked the essence of what Bloodworth was trying to approach, I just felt underwhelmed by she presented it. Having often wanted to tackle this very era in my own writing, being from the Great Lakes region myself, I saw so much more potential that fell to the wayside. More character development is necessary and a solid flow of story plot would make this book so much easier to enjoy. Just my humble opinion.
"I wanted to jump into his arms but I didn't. I wanted to kiss him and let him know I was willing but the fear I was making a mistake held me back. Sometimes a gal should pay attention to those feelings, but do we ever?" This is a coming of age story. In this book we follow our leading lady as she goes through the 60's and 70's. I myself was born in the 80's but have always had a fascination of what it would be like to have lived in a past era. I was very excited to read this book and was not disappointed! We get to experience so many of Dawn's triumphs and also heartaches in this novel. We get to watch her well read as she blossoms into an amazing woman. The person she has always aspired to be and she has blast doing it lol. I was pulled in as soon as I opened the book and held captivated until the very end. I feel like I was living vicariously through our heroine and I enjoyed every second of it! I think this is a book that anyone could enjoy and once you pick it up, you won't want to put it down! Go ahead one click away, you won't regret it! "'Never goodbye. Just until later.' And he kissed me. We both knew there would be no later but we pretended there would be."
First off I have to say that I really enjoyed this book. It was like reading a train wreck and watching the main character navigate through her life. This is truly an amazing coming of age story for one girl who lives her teen years in the 60's and the 70's.
Reading this story was like a roller coaster ride because you never knew where the dip was going to be or where Dawn was going to go. She made decisions based on what she wanted and what she feeling at the moment. Being a teen during this era was a tough one because everyone expected certain things from you and when you did not conform with them you were considered trouble and heading down the wrong path.
We get to see Dawn fall in love, fall out of love, have her heart broken and make decisions that were a little crazy at times. As you see Dawn doing her own thing and finding her own way out there in the world you are amazed at by the ending because you are not expecting what happens. This is one of those stories where you get to see Dawn growing up and realizing what she needs VS what she wants.
So take a reading ride on this coming of age story where the rubber meets road and the outcome is not what you expected at all.
Once I got into this story, I couldn't put it down. There's a depth to it that is perhaps not evident at first. The main character, Dawn, is so real, so strong and courageous, as she navigates the pitfalls of youth in the 60s. I love the pace and how the author seamlessly drives the storyline. Sure, it's a fast gallop, but that's how life was for the heroine. This story broke me through the outpourings from this young woman's heart. It was pure; a tragic young life being lived out by this amazing, resiliant young woman. I cried in some parts, cheered her on in others. But, ah, the heartache, the courage to pick up and plough on into the unknown, and her inexhaustible strength in simply existing made me just want to take this little girl home and love her. Well done, Dawn Bloodworth.
A little odd, but I really liked it. I say odd, because it bounces back and forth throughout time without really stating what year it might have been. Of course there's clues in the context of the surroundings, but at one point I was really confused about when it was, lol. I figured it out eventually though. I'm about twenty pages shy of finishing but I needed to get this posted. I can't wait to get back to it and finish the story. The things Dawn goes through in her life...this book will make the reader angry and offended on her behalf. It also has some pretty hot sex scenes. This book is said to be loosely based on the author's real life. I'm glad to see in her bio she's with someone who can make her happy after all of the failed, heartbreaking relationships she's had.
I have to admit that I was on the fence about this novel when I started to read it, but I was very pleasantly surprised. This is a very well written coming of age story placed in the 60’s and 70’s era. I have to admit that while that time period has never really pulled at me this story sure did. The Authors attention to detail and story telling kept me tied to this story and invested. It was more like one of those horrible train wreck type lives and you can not imagine looking away for even a moment afraid of what you will miss. While I hated some of the decisions that were made by Dawn, they truly made the story and kept it interesting. I can not wait to read more by this author !
The title of this book pretty much sums up this story.
Going nowhere fast about Kelley and Dawn's adventures on a road trip based in the 60's. Hopping from one pool hall to another in different cities. They meets up with old friends new lovers an finds a lot of trouble along the way.
Kelley and Dawn has a don't ask don't tell kind of relationship. Although Dawn has a hard exterior but she's falls in love fast and wears her heart on her sleeve.
For me this one was just ok. I couldn't fall in love with either character no matter how hard I tried. But the storyline it self wasn't a bad one so I give going nowhere fast 3 1/2 stars.
Going Nowhere Fast is a fast paced, fly by the seat of your pants kind of read. Dawn and Kelley are two pool playing, country hopping friends that live on the road and make no promises to settle anytime soon. Dawn is a character that is very passionate and daring. She gets into trouble, and manages to get herself out.

This is a really good coming of age story. I loved reading about life in the 60s and 70s. I found this to be a great rollercoaster ride. I really couldn't guess what was gonna happen next in this story. The author did a great job of this story. I really felt for Dawn as she went through her tough times. She is a really great character and I loved reading about her. Great read that I'll definitely be recommending.
