Is there such a thing as too much pie? Rowe never thought so, but when an outsider comes asking for the Wendall witch's help, she throws in the fork.
With the yearly festival fast approaching, Rowe has reached her pie-tasting limit. This is a time of growth for Hartford Cove, but they’re already bursting at the seams with newcomers. When a stranger arrives asking for help, it puts the party plans on hold.
There’s another sanctuary city, and the barrier that hides them is failing. More interesting to Rowe is that this new town is run by a pack of werewolves, the most dangerous of paranormal creatures. They could hold the key to curing Owen's curse, if their Alpha will trade his secret for her help.
Rowe and her mates set out, but in true Rowe fashion, nothing goes according to plan. The legend of the Wendall witch has spread, and creatures come out of the woodwork to claim a slice of Rowe’s magic, turning a simple road trip into a fight for their lives. Will they make it to their destination before it’s too late? Or is this one adventure they won't return from?

Pacific Northwest author L.L. Frost writes urban fantasy and paranormal romance with snarky characters and descriptive world-building. Whether she's writing a fast burn romance about witches, wolf shifters, and vampires, or teasing a slow burn romance while hunting demonic monsters, her passion is for character driven novels.
Growing up in a rainforest gave L.L. Frost plenty of time to daydream while spending cozy days under a blanket with her cats by her side. Sipping tea or chugging coffee, you can find her with a book or laptop in hand, imagining new worlds.
I was so looking forward to this book! The first four books in the series were lovely. They mix the most unique characters, with humor, tension, romance and loads of mythology and lore. And with each and every book it feels like the world is expanding and growing further. Although, I do agree with the guys: I think it's a great idea for our heroine to stop bringing mates home. However, even though I'll get the paperback, I also grabbed a review copy from BookSprout. I just had to!
I have to admit that the beginning of the book didn't really work for me. Don't get me wrong, I absolutely love Rowe and Tris and the way their mates embrace them exactly how they are. I just think them goofing around and creating havoc lasted a little too long. Luckily there was one big moment forcing even Rowe and Tris to get a little more serious, a little more responsible and a little more focussed.
And from that moment on I started enjoying the story more and more. Once more the author managed to grow the world and to add to the lore and mythology. I was gonna wonder when it was gonna end, but the last page of the book told us that the next installment is gonna be the last one, so that is the answer. I just really enjoyed exploring this new time, seeing a completely new dynamic and watching some more spells being added to the grimoire.
I also really loved the eventual villain of the story and their motivation for doing what they're doing. I'm not a huge fan of villains being bad just because they're bad. In this case I understood why the villain was doing what they were doing. As always, they were taking it all a little far, but the motivation was easy to understand and therefore it was hard to completely hate them. And after the last few chapters I'm really curious what's waiting for us in the series finale. BRING IT ON!
It's time for Hartford to have their magical festival/orgy/bake-off and Rowe is eager to escape, so she willingly agrees to help a sister magical town with their falling barrier. After all, she's a pro with barriers now. Adventure!
Well, this was a surprise! Another magical town, with more witches, different shifters, and werewolves. I'll admit, it took me a minute to become absorbed with this story which is unusual where Rowe is concerned. She's one of my favorite fictional characters ever and I usually gobble up her stories as fast as I can read the words. This one was missing the absolute random silliness. However, as I immersed myself in this story, it took over. It was excellent with so many new characters and twists I never saw coming. It showcased how far Rowe has come with her magic and confidence and turned teachers into friends. It also brought Rowe to the realization that Hartford isn't a burden; it's her home. It was exactly what this series needed to keep its momentum. My only complaint is that certain new characters didn't return to Hartford to become permanent ones.
** Cliffhanger Warning! ** I love this book! It's the fifth installment in an amazing, fantasy, reverse harem, action-palooza. This story has a mystery in addition to the usual awesomeness, and I can't wait for book six. Lots of things made me smile and laugh, and there were a couple parts that got me choked up.
While this part of Rowe's journey wasn't as much of an emotional rollercoaster, it seems like L.L. Frost could be a mystery writer. What other talents will this author unveil as she crafts more stories for Rowe, Tris, Owen, Haut, and Ros?
I especially enjoyed the pie tasting drama, the cottages, and the huffing and puffing. While the nods to Little Red Riding Hood have become less prominent, there's still a goodly amount of fairy tale elements.
Having said that, I wanted to see a cat shifter while we were in Silver Hollow, but it was cool to see another sanctuary town. I'm not sure if the Rothhaven grimoire was truly destroyed.
"Magic's Rise" by L.L. Frost takes readers on a thrilling journey through the supernatural world of Hartford Cove. Rowe, the Wendall witch, faces new challenges as outsiders disrupt the town’s festivities with urgent requests for help. With tensions rising and magical barriers failing, Rowe must navigate alliances with werewolves and confront dangerous creatures to save her community and unlock the cure for Owen's curse.
Frost skillfully weaves together action, magic, and suspense in this installment of the Hartford Cove series. The dynamic between Rowe and her companions adds depth to the story, making each twist and turn compelling and unpredictable. "Magic's Rise" is a must-read for fans of paranormal fiction, offering a blend of adventure and supernatural intrigue that keeps you on the edge of your seat until the very end.

Rowe's mind draws you in to this series and I love the way she talks about her toaster. She leaves town to help another one but still ends up being a trouble magnet. She's lucky she has her mates to support her, though she's coming into her own magic more and more. Still loving this series. You can't read it without a smile on your face.

I loved reading Magic's Rise. The whole Hartford Cove series so far has been wonderful, filled with great characters, action, and enough twists to keep you guessing. I really enjoyed seeing Silver Hollow, and the new people we get to meet there. I can't wait to read what happens in the final book in the series. I highly recommend this book and series to fans of romantic fantasy; just be sure to start at the beginning.
