EXCERPT: 'I've inherited my great-aunt's cottage?' Paige Taylor repeated incredulously, pressing the phone against her ear. 'Are you sure?'
'Yes, you're the sole beneficiary of Violet Atkin's entire estate,' the attorney, Steve Reagan, confirmed. His voice was level and soft, but it did little to calm Paige's reaction.
'How can that be? I've never even met her. I've never been to Dune Island either.'
Frankly, Paige had never wanted to visit the popular summer destination. Located off the Massachusetts coast, the island may have been renowned for its stunning views, pristine beaches and picturesque historic charm. But she'd grown up hearing stories about what a sad, secluded life her great-aunt had lived there. So Paige felt conflicted about inheriting the cottage and property, and she couldn't quite believe the attorney had the facts straight.
'My grandfather and my mother are deceased, which means my aunt Sherry is my great-aunt's closest surviving relative,' she informed him. 'I also have a brother, as well as three cousins on that side of my family. So why would Violet name me as the sole beneficiary?'
'She didn't name you, specifically, as her sole beneficiary,' Steve pointedly corrected her error. 'She bequeathed the property to her 'eldest single female descendent who isn't married or engaged to be married'. In your family, that happens to be you.'

ABOUT 'AUNT VIOLET'S LOCKET': The long, tarnished chain and heart-shaped pendant is heavy in Paige’s hand. Carefully prying it open she can just make out the tiny engraving inside. What she reads will change everything she ever believed about her great-aunt Violet, and their family history…When newly single and heartbroken Paige inherits an isolated cottage facing out to the wild sea on Dune Island from her great-aunt Violet, she is shocked. Paige never even met Violet, and she’s heard family stories about how a terrible incident involving the wealthy neighboring Hathaway family during World War Two led Violet to withdraw from everyone. But why would Violet leave everything to her? Determined to clear out the cottage and sell it as quickly as possible, when Paige bumps into Seth Hathaway as he walks back from the beach, at first she’s guarded. But Seth’s easy smile makes her think that maybe the Hathaways can be trusted after all…Then Paige finds an old envelope containing her aunt’s only piece of jewelry. The romantic message inscribed inside brings tears to her eyes, and Seth shows her how the initials match those carved with a heart into an ancient beech tree on her aunt’s property. Did Violet live her whole life yearning for the person who gave her the locket? As Paige and Seth grow closer, she starts to wonder if she could find happiness right here on Dune Island. And if Paige discovers the identity of Violet’s lost love, can she finally clear her aunt’s name—or in this tight-knit island community, should some secrets be left in the past forever?

MY THOUGHTS: Aunt Violet's Locket is Kristin Harper at her best. A mix of historical and contemporary fiction, the prologue begins in 1943 then moves to current times as Paige inherits the cottage. But it is an inheritance that comes with strings; strings that Paige is certain that she does not want to be bound by. It is as she is preparing the cottage for sale that she begins to make discoveries about her aunt; discoveries that tug at her heartstrings (and tugged at mine!) and make her wonder if her original decision is the right one.

I would love to inherit a seaside cottage, but that's unlikely to happen. I was rooting for Paige to wake up to herself, to acknowledge the stress she was under, due not only to her career but the pressure from family and a recently failed relationship, and to stay on the island. If I could have jumped right into that book I would have! Paige's stress levels and trust issues cause her to make some very questionable 'in the heat of the moment' statements, and cause confusion and mistrust. But I did like that she was strong enough to apologise once she cooled down.

The setting of Dune Island is just beautiful, and I wanted to move there. The characters are skillfully depicted with an over-anxious, extremely wealthy bride-to-be causing havoc, a handsome landscaper with a dog called Blossom, a family feud, and some family members more concerned about what they will get out of the sale of the cottage than with helping Paige. Kristin Harper has perfectly depicted the family dynamics and has penned a beautiful and heart wrenching backstory for Aunt Violet that is far more intriguing than I first thought possible.

While there is romance in Aunt Violet's Locket, it is only one part of this wonderful read an doesn't overshadow the mystery surrounding Aunt Violet.

Although this is #6 in the Dune Island series, Aunt Violet's Locket is a complete story and easily able to be read as a stand-alone.

TW: An antique sewing machine is harmed.

Having read other books in the Dune Island series I knew I was in for a treat reading this one.
The author writes such warm and relaxing books you know they are going to be great, and she is an auto read author for me.
I discovered her books quite by accident a few years ago when I saw a pretty cover she had on a book and there's been no turning back since then.
Aunt Violet's Locket is a time-slip novel. There is a very short amount of time spent in the past to set up the story, but most is spent in modern times.
Paige recently had a breakup but then she discovers she has inherited an isolated cottage on Dune Island with a front row view of the majestic ocean. She had never met her great Aunt Violet that she inherited it from.
The cottage sits right next to the wealthy Hathaway family mansion. Rumors involving the Hathaway's that have gotten out of hand over the years had caused Violet to become a recluse in her home. As she goes to Dune Island she is guarded and doesn't want to trust the Hathaway's because of past family history. That all may change when she meets Seth Hathaway though. I liked Seth's character; he seemed so friendly and helpful to Paige. Blossom his dog was a real charmer too.
Paige does have some drama going on in her family, a relative's engagement party is stressing out all involved and the little cottage on Dune Island. Hoping to make a few quick repairs and sell it quickly. This is before she visits the island and cottage. Could she possibly be happy here full time? Uncovering Aunt Violet's locket may be just the way to put heartbreaking family secrets to rest. Get the tissues out for this one. It's an emotional story and you say to yourself if only..........
Such a beautiful and heartwarming story, I won't miss any by this author.

I was given a complimentary copy of this book.

“Where’s a good ‘carrier seagull’ when you need one?”

I think this is Kristin Harper at the top of her game!

I’ve enjoyed ALL of the Dune Island novels, but this one has a perfect balance of history, mystery, sense of place, romantic tension, family drama, and literary lessons. It’s worthy of ALL THE STARS.

Furthermore, the appeal of the 1943 timeline was as strong as the present-day timeline.

The characters were fantastic; so masterfully crafted! I loved Paige Taylor’s reaction to her inheritance and how she grew from her original thoughts about the “dinky little hut” to treasuring her Great Auntie Violet’s “quintessential Hope Haven cottage”. Each time she was brusque, she took time to think and apologized. Lexie was a handful at first but loved how she grew, too. I appreciated how the FMC of both timelines were united in loss and how the reaction to the loss took them on different journeys. Seth Hathaway was dreamy and a perfect MMC. I shed a tear at the abrupt ending to the beech tree legacy.

Among the many highlighted passages, these two stand out:
💛Being reminded “of the principle that most choices involve loss, too.”
💛The importance of learning to be content with who we are and giving agency to inner strength that comes from living life on our own terms

I’d give anything to sit on the deck at the Atkin’s home on Spindrift Lane, sipping an iced Americano, listening to the gull calls and the waves lapping the shore.

This can be read as a stand-alone. Congratulations to the graphic designer - all Harper's covers are beautiful!

I was gifted this copy by Bookouture and NetGalley and was under no obligation to provide a review.

A gentle, women’s fiction story. It was slow to whet my interest. Paige Taylor is beneficiary of her Great Aunt Violet Atkins estate on Dune Island. It’s a cottage with incredible ocean views, and she must live there year round to retain ownership. Her neighbors are Uber rich and demanding in a nice way. Finding an old locket in her Aunt’s belongings, Paige searches for the Ed who gifted it her. The story is mostly about the past and current dynamics of the Hathaways and Atkins families. There are lots of historical references. I was happy when the mystery of Ed was solved. All in all, this story just didn’t interest me that much.

I honestly reviewed an unedited digital arc provided by NetGalley and Bookouture. All opinions are my own.

I have enjoyed the previous books in the Dune Island series and was looking forward to antoher enjoyable story and that is exactly what I got. Paige is newly single and had just bought a new condo to be closer to the hospital where she works in Chicago, when she is notified that she has inherited her great-aunt's cottage on Dune Island. Aunt Violet was a recluse, and single women, never married. There are lots of stories that Paige heard about her strange aunt, but she isn't sure what to believe. In her will Violet has left her estate to the oldest, non-married female in her family. If she decides not to live in the cottage, the she must sell it and split the proceeds with all the nieces and nephews in her generation. Paige goes to Dune Island to see what the cottage might need and to find a real estate agent to sell it for her. When she arrives, she is shocked by the state the cottage is in, but it doesn't take her long to begin to relax and enjoy her time on Dune Island.

I really enjoyed this story and I especially liked Paige. She is a wonderful woman. I love the way she digs in not only to fix up the cottage, but in her quest to find out as much as she can about her Aunt Violet. She doesn't just believe everything she is told, but searches for the truth, or at least what truth she can find. Then there is Seth Hathaway. There has been bad blood between the Hathaways and Paige's family, but Seth is different from what she expected, at least once she gives him a chance. He is handsome, helpful, caring, loves his dog and surfing and is attracted to Paige. The beauty and serenity of Dune Island made me want to visit and spend time at the cottage. Paige's brother and cousins were not my favourite people at all. They were selfish and very self-centered, not only did they not come and help Paige, but they were constantly pressuring her. I enjoyed the story of what happened to Violet so many years ago and how Paige solved the puzzle. With the help of a locket, a man who remembers Violet as a teenager and a hidden letter, she pieces things together. This is a story of secrets, finding what you really want out of life, romance, trusting yourself and following your own path. I really enjoyed this story and it is a wonderful addition to the book in the Dune Island series.

This was a really nice story. It revolves around Paige and her inheritance. It has bit of a mystery about her great Aunt. It’s also a nice romance that is perfect for your spring break reading. This is a really good series

Oh my, what a beautiful heart-melting uplifting story by Kristin Harper! It was like sliding into a pair of warm cosy slippers: welcoming and reassuring. It was both comforting and invigorating with memorable characters, exquisite scenes, exciting surprises and a terrific ending. It brought to the surface many familiar feelings, observances and longings. Who wouldn’t want to escape to Dune Island and live in an inherited cottage by the sea?

This novel focuses on family and a fascinating mystery. Paige is a nurse at a stressful job in the city and she has come through a difficult romantic relationship. When she discovers her aunt has left her a cottage on Dune island, she is shocked as she did not really know her. But when she sets foot on the island, she begins to unravel the life of a woman who was thought by her family to be fairly odd. The truth, though, is quite different from what everyone imagined.

While Paige attempts to get the cottage ready to sell, and her family eagerly waits for a share of the proceeds, Paige stumbles across some unexpected information. She originally had no intentions of staying on the island, but after meeting the locals and particularly a man from a rival family near her Aunt Violet’s cottage, she begins to see life in quite a different light. Will the island do its magic on her and change her mind about selling the cottage?

A real tug of war begins with her family (and in her own heart) as she consults them while providing updates on her aunt’s history. They, of course, are not so interested in the woman they never knew and want Paige to get on with disposing the old cottage to fund their own indulgences. But with all that Paige encounters on the island, it causes her to slow down and take everything into consideration. She begins to discover the real story behind her aunt, her gifts, courage, strength and a romance that nobody knew about. Well, almost nobody. And as she starts to see things she did not notice before, her heart transforms. She finds answers for her own life, the more she uncovers of her aunt’s. Seth Hathaway, is part of that process, too, as he is quite a different man than she originally thought.

This is such a delicious feast filled with love, mystery, new starts, historical secrets, beautiful scenery, fascinating memorabilia, expressive art, lovely islanders, and wonderful life changing connections. I enjoyed all the exploration and discoveries that helped Paige make all the right choices in the end. I love stories that delve into families and their pasts. This one uncovers some moving surprises and highlights the jewel moments of a woman’s life. In doing so, Paige has honoured her Aunt’s memory. The cottage, the old tree, the locket and a few other surprise items (I won’t mention as I don’t want to spoil anyone’s reading experience) create a perfect patchwork story of this woman’s life. These treasures all bring Paige closer to the truth. And the gorgeous old tree that has weathered many storms will forever stand like a ghost beacon to the past—even after it has been uprooted. For it has seen romance, heartbreak, rivalry and ruin. This island icon is a subtle symbol that quietly exudes atmosphere and purpose. I could easily picture it on the horizon—season after season weathering the changes. It is a reflection of Aunt Violet’s life in many ways but also carries a delicate WW2 connection that ties in with the mystery that surrounds her.

I loved everything about Aunt Violet’s Locket. It really captured my heart and made me feel so many emotions. This is an exceptionally delivered family drama that will stay with me a long, long time. An absolute Must-Read. 5 Heartfelt Stars ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Thank you to NetGalley and Bookouture for providing an ARC of this novel to read and review.

Novelist Kristin Harper hits all the right notes in her latest offering. There is a beautiful setting, historic Dune Island on the Atlantic; a surprise bequest from a reclusive and reputedly “crazy” great-aunt, with strange conditions attached; conflict within families; conflict between families. And of course a beautiful, capable and untrusting female character who becomes entranced with a handsome, capable and “can he be trusted” male character.

The mystery at the start—why did Great-Aunt Violet leave her cottage in a secluded hamlet on Dune Island to her grand-niece Paige, a Chicago nurse whom she had never met—is not the actual mystery at the centre. Paige, still smarting from a recent unforeseen break-up, is taken aback at her good fortune and happy to comply with one of the weird conditions, that she visit the property and own it for three months before deciding to stay or sell. If she stays, it is all hers. If she sells, the money will be divided evenly between Paige and Violet’s other remaining kin, Paige’s brother, her Aunt Shirley, and her cousins, of whom she is close only to Tara. All of them promise to contribute funds and help with the cleaning up and sprucing up of the derelict cottage, which is prime real estate. Paige doesn’t even entertain the thought of leaving her job and life. At least not consciously.

The real mystery has to do with the story behind Aunt Violet’s tarnished, heart-shaped locket that Paige finds while making her way through the clutter, without any of the promised help, except that offered by landscaper Seth Hathaway, who turns up propitiously. He is a member of the Hathaway clan, island aristocrats who employed young Violet as a babysitter for a child relative during the Second World War.

Then real mystery concerns a scandal involving Violet and the young Hathaway heir, Edward, that broke apart a long standing (if unequal) relationship between the Hathaways and the Atkins whose property abutted their vast estate. Such was the community approbation that Violet became an instant outcast. It was assumed, and remained the belief, that she had been in love with Edward, who was socially out of reach to a mere seamstress like Violet.
After her own father’s death, she remained alone and left her cottage only to move into a nursing home some 70 years later.

This much of the story Paige had learned from her aunt Shirley. The locket’s time-worn inscription leads Paige to some fruitful information about what really happened in August 1943, at the height of American military preparations at the island. In the meantime, her relationship with her self-absorbed relatives, the elite Hathaway clan, and the honourable but often misunderstood Buddy, provide the context for her own mid life awakening.

This is a fine romance, with a compelling mystery and some very interesting and likely mostly forgotten historical detail about home front military preparations in wartime. The lead characters are both admirable and good hearted people, though Paige is occasionally just peevish and her family, especially silly Tara, to whom she gives in often, are simply annoying. Seth is clearly smitten on first encounter, and infinitely patient while he waits for the untrusting Paige to trust again. An awful lot happens during the brief three weeks of Paige’s visit, in terms of romance, mystery, and especially property renovation, but this is romantic fiction so it’s all part of the enjoyment.

Who wouldn't want to spend time on Dune Island after reading Aunt Violet's Locket? Kristin Harper won me over with her lovely descriptions and wonderful characters. I swept away to Dune Island and enjoyed being a silent observer in both Paige and Violet's lives. I found this book to be heartwarming, gripping and well written. I have not read the other books in this series and found this book worked perfectly as a stand-alone novel. This book has a little bit of everything: a mystery, romance, a character with a couple of decisions to make and an engaging dual timeline plot!

Paige inherits her aunt Violet's cottage on Dune Island. The cottage has seen better days. Paige has her work cut out for her. The beautiful and relaxing view of the ocean is a blessing as she clears out the cottage and prepares it for sale. Her relatives are chomping at the bit for their share, but a lot of work needs to be done before the cottage will be ready. While on the beach, she meets Seth Hathaway, from a local family. A local family which she had been told had an issue with her Aunt Violet and vice versa. While cleaning the cottage she finds a locket with an inscription which gives her a glimpse into her aunt's life.

I enjoyed the dual timelines and how the plot played out. The setting of this book is lovely, and I enjoyed how the setting paired with learning about her aunt, had a lasting effect on Paige. Sometimes all we need is a new setting to gain perspective. The mystery of the past and Violet's life was gripping and well done. I enjoyed getting to know this clever and intelligent woman more. I also enjoyed getting to know Paige, Seth, and his loveable dog.

What an endearing, wonderful and heartwarming book. I look forward to reading more books by Kristin Harper and more books in this charming series.

Thank you to Bookouture and NetGalley who provided me with a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review. All the thoughts and opinions are my own.

I love books like these, that offer a beautiful nostalgic escape. Despite enjoying this read and devouring it in two days, I rated it 1 star out of 5. Why? Because even though I'm rating it 4/5 within its genre (easy vacation reads), I'd settle on 1 star out of 5 for it's literary value, 1 star given for the fact that it's written and published, which alone is an achievement for any author.

Now let me explain what I mean.

As I said, this book belongs to a specific genre of easy vacation reads. Vacation reads are books that you bring with you when you're off to the beach, a cottage, or even an overseas destination. You read them because they match the vibe. You might enjoy them, but once you're done, you don't bring them back home to keep on the shelf with the rest of your collection. Books like this absolutely have a reason to exist, and we need them because we need books with happy endings where everything works out. I think if I were a writer, I'd choose to write within this genre myself. I enjoyed Aunt Violet's Locket because it was easy to read, it was engaging, and there were no loose threads. The book features a wartime romance, and I'm a big fan of historical romance and books where a modern day character solves a decade-old mystery. Within this context, I'm giving it 4/5.

With this said, the story is by no means memorable or unique. The writing is quite mediocre. And I wasn't at all satisfied with the ending. I wasn't sold on Paige's motivation to keep Violet's story a secret instead of clearing the name of a woman who lived, loved, and endured a lifetime of undeserved ridicule.

Additionally... if someone lashed out at you like Paige did at Seth for hauling away the shed, this is an indicator of an emotionally abusive person who will lash out again and again, no matter how many times they apologize. Fictional characters can do whatever they want, but be careful in real life.

To sum this up, this is an entertaining summer read that offers more vibe than any literary value. Enjoy it and pass it on to the next vacationer.

Aunt Violet’s Locket by Kristin Harper is a most delightful contemporary novel. It is the sixth book in the Dune Island series but can be read as a stand-alone.
An unexpected inheritance sees the lead character travel to a remote island in order to claim an isolated property. It is everything she doesn’t want, but a summer spent preparing to sell sees more changes than in just the building.
Links to the past are unearthed as a character seeks out the truth behind the stories of her late ninety nine year old great aunt whom she never met. It has all been smoke and mirrors as there was so much more to her than the alleged wilting wallflower.
Secrets, stories and lies from World War II have been buried but are unearthed unexpectedly. This causes a dilemma – what to do with the knowledge?
Within the novel society has put an emphasis on women marrying young and not ending up on the shelf! Women are to be homemakers. Much is made of a showy engagement and wedding, without much thought to the actual marriage.
All the characters are delightfully drawn, realistic and likable. The leading lady was easy to relate to and I loved the dog called Blossom.
Aunt Violet’s Locket was a positively charming read about life, legacy and inheritance which is so much more than bricks and mortar. Our legacy is the character we leave behind and not just our possessions. Invest wisely in your life, as your reputation will remain.
I received a free copy from the publishers for a blog tour. A favourable review was not required. All opinions are my own.

Aunt Violet's Locket is the 6th book in the Dune Island series, but the first Kristin Harper novel that I have read. Although part of a series, Aunt Violet's Locket works well as a stand-alone novel. The location is wonderful and works well as a dual timeline novel. During 1943, the Island was the site of military maneuvers, while in a more contemporary setting, military ordinance is still making an appearance. The beach front setting probably speaks to many readers. I know it certainly appealed to me.

Mostly the characters are enjoyable, with Paige as the protagonist, who has inherited her great aunt's beach front cottage. There is some romantic interest and a number of local characters who are interesting. Paige's relatives are more neuritic than most relatives, and while many of us no doubt have a relative who is a pain, Paige seems to have more than a fair share of neurotic relatives. I could certainly understand why she might want to escape from her family. The plotting was good, although in one area, predictable. But I didn't care, since the novel was fun and delightful. The genre of starting over and transforming a life will hold the reader's attention. I know I enjoyed reading Aunt Violet's Locket.

Thank you to author Kristin Harper, publisher Bookouture, and NetGalley for proving this ARC in exchange for my honest review. Escaping into a nice beach read is the best way to spend an afternoon.

Such a wonderful novel!
My feelings on Paige's predicament is if none of the family members are willing to help then they wouldn't get one red cent if I were to sell. Thos made me so angry that her family was lazy and only thought of themselves like Tara. I really didn't like her at all!
So selfish.
I really wish that we could have known Great Aunt Violet better. Seems like she was quiet the character.
My heart swelled with pride when I read the real reason Violet did what she did. I was proud of her but sad for her too.
Paige is pretty cool altogether. Even with her family members acting the way they were. I liked how she stood up to them on occasion and yet still cared about them. This is why she's my favorite character.
This has been a fantastic series so far. I've enjoyed them all, but this is my favorite one. I hope there will be more coming. I always enjoy coming back to Dune Island and it has a little history all of it's own.
I have enjoyed this book very much and hated to see it end. I savored this story. It was so very good and it made me want to cry at times.
In Violet's case for the good of the one outweighs the good of the many. An awesome lady in my opinion.
5 stars.for an amazing read! I highly recommend this sweet story.

This is a wonderfully beautiful book. There are so many fulfilling elements that Harper has within this book. There’s the family dynamic between Violet’s family and the Hathaways, there’s the historical aspect, the family history aspect, family dynamics within the same family, and then there’s also a bit of romance.

I loved the ying and yang of the two families, how completely opposite they were. However, Seth did seem to be less of a true Hathaway and that was nice to see. I also really liked learning some history without it being too overwhelming and in your face. It was done in the right way.

Most authors that write books about a family member in the past will write alternating chapters of in the present and in the past. I LOVED that this book stayed in the present throughout the whole book. I appreciated Paige’s desire to learn about her Aunt Violet, and the steps she took to learn more about her and her life on the island. The way that the author was able to tell Violet’s story without having to make “past” chapters was amazing. It made me appreciate the book that much more. This is really the best part of the book.

There’s two romances that happen in the book: Violet’s and Paige’s. Both are not the center of the book, but provide the reader to feel happiness knowing that these characters had someone love them and take care of them.

There’s so much good here, and I could go on and on. I think you should just read the book.

Paige inherits a cottage on Dune Island from her great-aunt Violet, whom she has never even met. So you can only imagine how surprised she is when she is notified. Her plan is to fix it up and sell it as soon as possible. She has heard many stories about the Hathaway family that were neighbors to Violet. So when Paige bumps into Seth Hathaway, she begins to think that maybe the Hathaways aren’t so bad after-all. While searching through Violet’s cottage she finds the one and only piece of Violet’s jewelry, a locket and an inscription inside. A romantic message from Violet’s true love. Paige wonders if Dune Island could bring her the happiness she desperately needs. She uncovers a secret of Aunt Violet’s lost love, but is it a secret that would clear her Aunt’s name or should she keep it hidden from everyone forever?

Aunt Violet’s Locket written by author Kristin Harper is a wonderful and emotional story. This story is a phenomenal installment to the Dune Island Series. I always seem to get lost when I visit Dune Island. I am mesmerized by the sea lapping at the shore and the wonderful little village. The details that Harper portrays to the reader will transport you to Dune Island, and you will want to stay for a while. This story, filled with many plot twists makes it intriguing, unputdownable and wonderfully heartwarming. This charming read is exactly what I needed. I loved it. I highly recommend this ten star read.

Interesting love story from the past, but the miscommunication between family members and neighbors is frustrating.
"When newly single and heartbroken Paige inherits an isolated cottage facing out to the wild sea on Dune Island from her great-aunt Violet, she is shocked.
But Seth’s easy smile makes her think that maybe the Hathaways can be trusted after all…
Then Paige finds an old envelope containing her aunt’s only piece of jewelry.

And if Paige discovers the identity of Violet’s lost love, can she finally clear her aunt’s name." synopsis copied

I liked the sound of this book from its description. When I first started reading, I thought about what it might mean to be given a locket, particularly a heart-shaped locket. It piqued my curiosity, and I wondered about the possibility of a love affair that was cut short or concealed, if the two involved could not be together.

The protagonist was Paige, who inherited her great aunt Violet's cottage, and I liked the idea of this cottage as a backdrop for the main story. For me, somewhere like a cottage has connotations of peace and beauty, and escape. So I appreciated the author's efforts to work with that setting and bring it to life, and I did feel there was some beautiful imagery.

I never fully warmed to Paige as a protagonist, or connected with her, though I still tried to follow her journey. I did feel slightly emotional when she eventually discovered the truth about Aunt Violet and the locket.

This book is part of a series - the Dune Island series, and I haven't read any of the previous books. Maybe if I had, I would have enjoyed this one a little more. It was a fairly pleasant, easy read, and it did provide an escape, but I didn't feel as invested in the story as I would have liked.

Thanks to Netgalley for providing me with an early acc in return for a honest review and my apologies for being late.

Although I didn't manage to finish the book before the deadline,it was a very light hearted and wholesome story, full of simple descriptive language and a protagonist that you can't help but love. She is determined to throw light in her aunt's backstory and discover the truth behind a family scandal that ruined her life.Paige is a doctor,a heartbroken woman trying to face every one of her problems alone since her family is pretty much ignorant.

Thats probably the only thing that I didnt like-how insufferable all of her family was, caring only about themselves and the money they could earn from selling the cottage.Maybe they had a change of heart by the end of the book, but for the first half they are annoying at best.

The love interest took a while to capture my attention and seems very flat at first. In the end, though,he ends up being a sweatheart that I couldnt help but root for.It had a lot of heartwarming moments, like the friendship between Paige and old man Hathaway.

This book is the best if you want to relax and enjoy a story with some mild mystery or an islandic aesthetic.I really wish I have a chance to finish to one day.

I first just want to say that the minute this author Kristin brings out a new book, straight away it goes to top of my to be read list, as I always enjoy reading books by this author. So Aunt’s Violet Locket is Kristin Harper’s sixth book and yet I’ve read them all.

Just like her other books, I thoroughly enjoyed this story, it was beautiful, heartfelt and emotional in places. Plenty of drama going on also, especially with the Cousin Tara and just a little bit with neighbour Lexie too. I did love getting to know all of the characters though, even those with only little parts to play, learning each of their stories and seeing them all interact with each other.

The story was very well written I thought and the characters were wonderfully developed and so very real, they almost felt like real people at times, not just characters.

And last but not least, the setting of Dune Island sounded soo truly picturesque and idyllic, would loved to have been experiencing it myself for real.

Bookouture books always keeps me reading, and this one was no different. Aunt Violet's Locket, really intrigued me from the start. I had expectations about the book and was pleasantly surprised, that this book exceeded my expectations.
Aunt Violet lived to be 99 years old, and people knew of Aunt Violet, but did they really know Aunt Violet? You will not believe who Aunt Violet was, the life she had, and the women she was. When I started reading it, I was only going to read for a little while, but I could put it down, it just drew me right in, and at 2 A.M. I finished the book and was so glad I stayed up to finish this book. Kristen Harper wrote the book, with what people had heard, to when Paige arrived, and when she arrived the book changed, to figuring out the clues. I wasn't disappointed, and loved the adventure this book took me on, and I highly recommend reading this book.
I received an ARC from Bookouture through NetGalley.

Another great book in the Dune Island series. I've enjoyed all the ones I've read.

A fantastic local, great characters and an interesting storyline. Kind of a dual timeline - there is a little slip back in the past as we learn about Aunt Violet's history, but it's mostly in current time with her great niece, Paige. Paige inherits the island cottage because she's the eldest, unmarried girl in the family. She decides to sell the cottage and split the funds with her brothers and cousin - their characters left a lot to be desired, as does the aunt, too. Paige is there to look into the upkeep and making the place more sellable. But in the meantime, she meets the neighbors and learns their history with her family. And learns a lot whole more about Violet's life than her family knew.

Thank you to NetGalley, the author and publisher for a temporary, digital ARC in return for my review.

I thoroughly enjoyed this story which gained momentum and interest as events developed and moved on. The main character, named Paige, inherits a cottage on Dune Island from her Aunt Violet which is in desperate need of repair, but the cottage is set in a beautiful location by the beach where waves roll in from the sea and gradually, Paige wonders if she has made the right decision in agreeing to sell the cottage in order to share the profits with other family members. Meanwhile, she attempts to find out as much of the back story and family history of her Aunt as possible since she has discovered her Aunt lived a solitary, reclusive life before being overtaken by events that caused her to withdraw from the society of that particular time.
I highly recommend this story since it is emotional, mysterious and unusual in it`s setting and involves past history, present day, and future hopes.

Aunt Violets Locker by Kristin Harper

Paige out of the blue is bequeathed an old isolated cottage on Dune Island for a great aunt she didn’t even know about. The book starts out with Paige going to Dune Island to get a long neglected property ready to sell but as the story unfolds things start to change for Paige as it goes from a simple diy to delving into the past and the twist and turns as she tries to find out more about the reclusive aunt she never met herself and that things aren’t always as they seem.

Fabulous story that as you turn the pages you become embroiled in Paige’s quest to make a dilapidated cottage habitable to sell and the mysteries unfold and family fights as they all want the money but no involvement.

Great read and characters though not all likeable but the big question is what will Paige ultimately do?

I haven’t read the other 5 books in this series but read Aunt Violet’s book as a stand alone book.
I enjoyed the story of Paige inheriting her great Aunt Violet’s cabin on Dune Island. The terms of her will are as long as she lives in the property full time she is the sole owner of the property. If she chooses to sell the property she must split everything with her brothers and cousins. The property butts up to the mega rich neighbors property.
Paige is given a small box of a few of her aunts personal belongings and in there she finds a small locket with some initials and starts a search looking for whoever gave her aunt the locket. I enjoyed the story of Aunt Violet and the search of the giver of the locket and Paige’s decision on what she would do with the property in the end.
Thank you to NetGalley and Bookouture for the opportunity to read and review ARC.

A beautiful story that will take you on a fun adventure.
Main character, Paige, inherits a cottage on Dune Island when her Aunt Violet passes away. Aunt Violets request is that her cottage goes to the oldest single woman in the family. Paige isn’t interested in the cottage except to fix it up and sell it. She plans on sharing the money from selling the cottage with her aunt and cousins. At first everyone agrees to help her work on the cottage and then they all are too busy to help her.
This is a duel timeline story with some interesting history.
It was lovely going on Paige’s journey to find out what she really wanted in her life.
The Dune Island series is one I highly recommend. Each book can be read as a stand-alone.
Thank you to NetGalley, Bookouture and the author for the opportunity to read this book for my honest review. All opinions expressed are my own.

Aunt Violet's Locket by Kristin Harper

Heart-warming, page-turning and a mixture of emotion read.

Paige who suddenly was told to inherit a cottage in Dune Island from her great-grand aunt Violet. Paige was shocked because she had never met her. Now Paige just wanted to fix the cottage and sell it. Until she found a locket which belonged to her aunt and with a romantic message.

The story led us to some family drama, romantic scene and secrets. Among all the characters, I like Paige very much in the book. She’s determined while she was finding the story behind the locket. She’s caring and lovely.

Even the book is the Book 6 of Dune Island, still it can be read as a stand alone.

Many thanks to Netgalley, Bookouture and the author for my copy.

Thank you Bookouture for inviting me to be part of the Books on Tour for “Aunt Violet’s Locket” by Kristen Harper. This is my first book by her, but it won’t be my last!
I’ve fallen hard for Paige and her world. Paige inherits her Aunt Violet’s house, which is strange because she has never even met her! Paige decides to sell the house. When she starts cleaning, she finds a locket with a romantic message inside. Paige goes on a journey to find out who Aunt Violet really was and finds out more about her own family. I loved every word of this.
Many thanks to the author, Bookouture and NetGalley for a complimentary copy of the book. The opinions expressed in this review are entirely my own.

Aunt Ivy’s Locket, the latest novel by talented author Kristen Harper, sheds light on the sacrifices made by people for their families.

The story introduces Paige, who, heartbroken, inherits a cottage in Hope Haven. Her plan is to renovate and sell it. However, Aunt Ivy’s will requires her to either reside in the property or share the sale proceeds with her family. This raises the questions as to why she inherited it. While preparing the cottage, she encounters Seth Hathaway and after learning about her family’s history with the Hathaways during WWII, she considers staying away. Can she resist the connection?

The characters are endearing and relatable; and the vivid descriptions of Hope Haven make it a place you’ll want to visit. The captivating storyline kept me engaged from start to finish! I highly recommend getting your hands on a copy soon
