My name is Daniel Nicholas Conners, but you can call me Nicky C. I don't leave things up to chance. I exercise control in all areas. Here in Queen City, I'm king.
Life is a series of calculated choices... moves on a chess board. When people look at me, they see one of the carefully crafted personas that I've constructed. The carefree bad boy of the motocross world who retired at the height of my career. The playboy businessman worth more money than I could spend in ten lifetimes.
The mask I wear is one I've perfected over the years, though they undoubtedly hear the rumors - the whispers surrounding my status as the ruthless leader of the Queen City Dukes. No one sees the real me. Not the jagged broken pieces, or how deep the darkness bleeds into my soul.
Except for her... Daphne Guinevere Burke - my baby sister's best friend. In this cycle of endless despair, she's remained my bright spot. In return, she asked me for the one thing I wasn't capable of - love. I tell myself if she asked for anything else, I'd give it to her in a heartbeat. That is, until she asks for me to let her go. I don't deserve her, especially not after the way I've repeatedly shattered her heart over the years, but she's going to have to get over it.
Because Daphne is mine. 'Til death do us part.
Please note: "We Were Together" is the second book in The Queen City Series, and the first installment in The King's Duet. While it is encouraged you read "I Stop Somewhere Waiting For You" first, it is not required to understand the events of this book.
Amanda Jones writes emotionally charged, angst ridden dark romance and fantasy romance novels; incorporating themes of first love, forbidden love, second chances, and found family. Though her books pack plenty of drama, she's a big believer in Happy Ever Afters.

WOW 😍 Amanda Jones has done it again! I’ve been ready for this book since the end of ISSWFY and it did not disappoint!
I really enjoyed the dual timeline, I think it was a really interesting way to build the history of these two characters who were obviously meant to be together. Their chemistry is palpable and cannot be ignored (no matter how hard they tried. Lol)
Nicky is a really interesting character for me. Dark romance isn’t my typical genre, but something about Nicky hits the spot for me. He’s twisted but I love him. 😂
Definitely read I Stop Somewhere Waiting For You first for the full effect.
Thank you Amanda for allowing me on your arc team. 🩵 I love this world and I can’t wait to continue!
𝑾̲̅𝒆̲̅ 𝑾̲̅𝒆̲̅𝒓̲̅𝒆̲̅ 𝑻̲̅𝒐̲̅𝒈̲̅𝒆̲̅𝒕̲̅𝒉̲̅𝒆̲̅𝒓̲̅ - @thatauthorchick_amandajones All the STARS/⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐🌶🌶🌶
I Have died and gone to heaven with this book, wait more like hell because that’s my favorite place to be. This story is just another level.
Tell me why this duo just consumed me to no end!!! They are toxic, chaos, and so fricking in love with each other. “ ℐ 𝓁ℯ𝓈𝓈 𝓎ℴ𝓊 𝓉𝒽ℯ𝓃 𝓉𝒽𝓇ℯℯ“ oh this quote, made me mad!! I was like what is he saying?!?! lol 😂 but now that I know, my heart melts for this man.
I love a MMC who is uncontrollable, unhinged, a killer, just for his Heroine. Daphne could have said jump, he would have said how high. There was nothing he couldn’t do for her… but being with her. he is too dangerous. He is the King of Queen City. He is the one everyone is afraid off.. and he has enemies. Plenty of them.
They met at a such young age, at his mothers funeral. He knew since then she was special. He wasn't that kid who was interested in much. But her? He hung the moon for her.
Meeting a couple years later, Daphne becomes his sister's bestfriend. She was around all the time. Daphne was part of the family.. But not to him. He saw her for so much more. But life for him wasn't the same, so he became the Devil everyone feared. Even thought he loved her to no end, he always kept her at arms length. Because he couldn't have her, but that doesn't mean he can't play with her.. even if she was engaged... 🤭🤭🤭
Oh this book is going to want to pull your hair and swoon and the same time. The way they were in the bedroom was so hot! Like hands down so fricking sexy. The dirty mouth on both!! Likee ughh I'm melting over here LOL I had to close my eyes for a second.
Please read this book, and the first one, I'm seriously in awe how this man lives in Amanda's brain. Like can you transfer him to me too? LOL
Thank you Amanda for letting me read this early<333 YOU ARE INCREDIBLE! 🥰🥰🥰
“I have spent years thinking I didn’t have a heart, but the truth is I do—I’d just given it away when I was eight years old.”
Amanda Jones has done it again with Queen City series. I have read I Stop Somewhere Waiting for You, the first book in the series, more than I’m willing to admit and not knowing the truth about Daphne and Nicky was something that I was itching to know.
Nicky and Daphne were amazing and getting their background of how they came to be was absolutely chefs kiss.
The saying, “heavy is the head that wears the crown,” is in essence all of what Nicky feels through this entire book. Nicky is a man that needs to be in control at all times. From always trying to protect his family and friends from his world of gangsters, especially the ones he loves the most, he denies himself the one thing he thinks he can’t have: Daphne.
Daphne throughout this whole book showed us what a true ride or die is, even if he breaks her heart over and over again. She may be marrying a different man but she will always belong to Nicky.
Theirs is a crazy love story but, man, the tension and spice between them could light a room on fire. All the “yes, sir,” and hand necklaces, you can see why Daphne never had a chance.
“I less than three you.”

Amanda has done it again. If she isn't an auto buy author for you, she needs to be. She writes it, I'm reading it. And I'm more than likely loving it.
We Were Together follows Nicky and Daphne, who are prominent side characters in another novel by Amanda - I Stop Somewhere Waiting For You - and while I think that you don't necessarily have to have read ISSWFY before reading this, I do HIGHLY recommend you do as to get a better understanding of the character dynamics, relationships and events that take place as well as the overall timeline.
Nick and Daphs relationship is quite toxic, but also so beautiful! He literally worships the ground Daph walks on and will do anything to protect her, even if that means breaking her heart over and over again keeping her at arms length.
They meet at such a young age, only to be brought together again a few years later, and that's where the back and forth begins and keeps going for 17 years. Let me tell you that when Nick finally gets his shit together and professes his love *sighs in swoon* if I was miss Daphne Burke, I'd be on my knees for the man in a heart beat, broken heart be damned!
The book is left on a sneaky little cliff, not too big, but just enough to keep you guessing what is going to happen next as this story is part 1 of the Kings Duet. But don't worry, you won't be waiting too long for part 2. And that is where shit will definitely get interesting 😏.
Amanda has forever become a instant buy author for me.
This story is a spin off with the FMC's brother and best friend from, I Stop Somewhere Waiting for You. Highly encourage you to read that before diving into "We Were Together" so you can fully understand and appreciate the story.
This was everything I knew it would be. Nickey C. was a favorite of mine in the first story, and I always wanted to know more about what happened with him and Daphne. This book takes us all the way to the beginning and I loved it! It leads through events found in "I stop somewhere waiting for you." And if you read that one, then I expect book two of this duology to continue what was started there.
Daphne is one of my absolute favorite FMC!
This was a great read and I can not wait to have the next one!
“I have feelings. I just don’t allow myself to be controlled by them. Emotions make you irrational.” -Nicky
“You don’t fingerpaint on top of a Rembrandt.” -Nicky
Back when during my life consuming read of “I Stop Somewhere Waiting For You,” Nicky C. and Daphne were introduced into my life. Daph is the best friend every girl needs and Nicky was a decent big brother but did nothing to make me need more of him. Amanda started talking of this book, “We Were Together,” and the need to know Daphne got everything wonderful in this world was strong. When it comes to Nicky, my interest was more on his bromance with Mav. Anyway, this book had to be read.
What the hell, Amanda?!?! My heart was broken how Daphne was never loved the way she deserves. It hurt. A lot. So many times there were threats made towards Nicky (others too but mainly Nicky) because he is a swamp donkey whom acted like he wasn’t smart enough to wear shoes with laces. Boy genius my ass.
The back and forth of past and present was a great way to see where the started then where they are in the present. It was hard a few times because the story would take place during events from ISSWFY that had old feelings and emotions coming back up. These views brought more pain, fondness, and attachment to these characters. One downfall, it is a duet. It was wonderful. Now there is nothing to do but pretend to be patient until the second book, third in the series, comes out. It’s gonna be a long summer.
Review:AHHHHH I couldn’t wait to read Nicky’s book after reading about him in Queen City Book 1 and let me tell you this book was AHMAZING!!! I read this within 24 hours just couldn’t put it down.
Nicky and Daphne’s relationship is sweet, cute and TOXIC!!! They’ve known each other for a very long time and have been attuned to each other since then. Nicky is very PROTECTIVE and POSSESIVE when it comes to Daph. He is willing to do anything to protect her even keep himself away from her.
Daphne ❤️ this girl let me tell you is such a brave and loving soul. Love how she’s made her own family/space for herself within Jonsie/Nicky’s family and they love her as she’s one of them. The mouth on this girl LOVED IT. She takes no 🤬 from anyone and holds her own. Her friendship with Jonsie is sooo precious. These girls are each others ride or die 🥹
These two killed me with soo many feelings 😭 the love they had for each other was beautiful ❤️ I can’t wait for the second instalment to this book 🫶🏼🫶🏼

Lord have mercy, she’s done it again. Her range is incredible, and her writing sucks me in every single time. If you love a morally grey psychopath, this one is it. Nicky is obsessive and down right filthy, but Ohmygod will you love him. He’s gonna piss you off, and make you curse his stupid moronic face, but you’re going to NEED to know what happens next. The way he makes dumb decisions because he thinks it’s what’s right, and the way she gives back as bad as she gets; these two are fire and gasoline, but they need each other to burn the world. I finished it in about 12 total hours of reading, and I can confidently say that Part 2 is going to be even better. The moment two of the strongest people realize they don’t have to walk the world alone will gut me with absolute certainty and I will eat up every single bit of heartbreak and fleeting moments just to see them make it. The worlds this woman creates, and relationships she builds, not only between characters but also between characters and the reader…every single second of her books is incredible and gut wrenching.
I couldn't wait to read Daphne and Nick's story since the first book. I have to admit, even before the first book, I was eager to read their story. I discovered their story through a teaser on Instagram. Unfortunately, I was a bit disappointed when I found out the book hadn't been published yet.
So, I read the first book, and my desire to read it only grew stronger. Especially lately, the anticipation for this book has only increased, and so has the excitement!
I really enjoyed getting to know Nicky through his flashbacks, and I couldn't help but love him even more. The first encounter between Nicky and Daphne is both sad and beautiful.
I loved Daphne's character, even though what she goes through with her family broke my heart. She deserves better from her family, and I'm glad she found it with Nicky and Joanna.
I can't wait to read the second part because I need more and to find out what happens next! PS : The cover is absolutely stunning!!
Wow. This book was perfection. I absolutely loved seeing all of Daphne and Nicky's history over the years. Especially, everything that happened leading up to the ending in I Stop Somewhere Waiting For You. When I saw that we would be getting a Nicky story, I knew it would be amazing. He was someone I wanted more of in Jonsie and Mav's story so I'm so glad we got not one but TWO books. I can't wait to see what's in store for Nicky and Daphne's story in book 2. I highlighted so many scenes in this book. I loved getting to see Nicky struggle to love Daphne without putting her in danger. There were so many instances that I can't mention without spoiling but I'll just say the scene with the dahlias really got me. PLEASE PLEASE read this book if you are a dark romance fan. You will not be disappointed.
Thank you to Amanda Jones for my ARC copy. All of these thoughts are my own.
⚠️ Check triggers because there is a lot that could be bothersome to some.
If I knew I was just gonna reread the events from the first book in this duology, just from a different perspective, I’d skip it. WTF?!
The blurb is misleading af. I was under the impression that after a prologue or a quick recap we’ll pick up where we left off in the end of the previous book. Not only did we never do that, we didn’t even actually get to that part where Nick’s been served, just to the wedding.
Instead, we just reread everything we already knew, just got details this time and a whole bunch of tidbits from their past that we also already knew about.
Besides the fact that I don’t get the point of this book existing, I would also like to say that it’s ok to admit that NOT everyone deserves a HEA. And by not everyone I mean pricks who mistake their misogyny for a martyrdom, essentially screwing over everyone around them because they’re too much of a coward to put their big boy pants on and face their feelings.
Hands down, 5 stars. I loved every second of this book. You know you’ve found a good one when you can be laughing one second, crying the next then burning from the spice. Nicky & Daph’s love story is everything! I knew it was going to be a good after reading their incredible banter in I Stop Somewhere Waiting for You and my expectations were blown out of the water. I live for such amazing banter. The love, sadness and chemistry can be felt in all aspects of this book and I am here for every second of this ride. I cannot wait to see where their story goes! Thank you Amanda Jones for writing another book that is now my whole personality.
Couldn’t wait for this to come out, and it did not disappoint!
I loved Nicky and Daph’s story and how Amanda Jones wrote it coinciding with Mav and J’s story. You feel it allover again but from Nicky and Daphne’s perspective, and I love them just as much!
This book has ALL the feels! The playlist helps with that too! I cannot not think of or feel for the characters when I hear certain songs from the list. I love it when authors do this with their books, big sell for me!
Overall, I highly recommended both I Stop Waiting For You and We Were Together!
If I could relate this book more stars i definitely would. This was one of my most awaited books and I was so happy to be apart of the ARC team. It was everything I expected and more. Amanda’s writing style is one of the most captivating I’ve read. From falling in love with the Daphne and Nicky from Book 1 to actually reading their story, it made my month. The love is so real and raw which is so hard to find now. It definitely made me want more and i definitely can’t wait to continue this series!
Daniel Nicholas Connors, aka, Nicky C is a king in Queen City. He is a former motocross champion and is now the ruthless leader of the Queen City Dukes with his friends. Daphne is best friends with Nicky’s sister. She’s feisty, has a potty mouth, and it’s not intimidated by Nicky. They get together throughout the years. However, Nicky’s life is too dangerous. He cares about Daphne and wants to keep her safe so he breaks her heart. In doing so, he’s breaks his own because she’s the only one who truly sees him. When Daphne is ready to move on, he won’t let her go. We Were Together, is filled with banter, humor, action, and spice. Although it made me laugh, it also made me cry. Amanda Jones you’ve truly outdone yourself. I cannot wait for the second book to this duet, I will be counting the days.
Let me just start with Amanda has done it again. Nicky's book hooked me from the beginning.
Nicky and Daph have grown so much. I loved seeing their story play out from the first time they met to present day. I'm excited to see the second book in the duet to see how their relationship grows from here.
This book is full of action, caring, sacrifices, spicy talk, and banter. I've been rooting for them since J and Mav's story. It's heartbreaking but also heart-warming getting to see deeper into their relationship.
Ok, the epilogue of book 1 and the absolute tease that is this book has made me feral for book 3!!
This book takes you on the same timeline as book 1 from Nicky and Daphs pov, with flashbacks of their story. I didn't love the regurgitation - it felt like the stakes weren't so high because I already knew how it would end. However, I absolutely loved the flashbacks of Nicky and Daph falling in love and understanding why Nicky started his gang.
I really enjoyed the spice. Even when I was annoyed at Nicky. But the chemistry between Nicky and Daphne was just 🔥
First off I stop somewhere waiting for you is one of my favourite books. I’ve already read it twice in the last month and couldn’t wait for the next book in the series!!
This book is all about Nicky and Daphne, I was so excited to hear these side characters would get their own book since we were teased a bit with the ending of book 1.
Amanda doesn’t disappoint with this one either!! I couldn’t put it down. It’s a must read in my book if you’re into a little spice 🌶️!!
I was obsessed with Mav and Jonsie’s story in “I Stop Somewhere Waiting For You”, so I knew I was going to love Nicky and Daph’s story! Nicky is the perfect morally grey man while Daph is a strong and feisty FMC. Amanda Jones really knows how to write amazing characters that you instantly fall in love with! While this could be read as a stand-alone, I would highly recommend reading Mav and J’s story first. I can’t wait for Part 2!!!
Another great read from this author, but I need part 2!
I enjoyed the flashbacks throughout this book, giving us insight into the origins of Nicky and Daph's friendship/relationship, and what has happened in the years since.
Parts of this story I'd already read in Mav and Jonsie's book (a great read - I recommend it!) so it was interesting seeing those events from Nicky's pov.
The chemistry between Nicky and Daph was everything! I loved the little things he'd do to show how he felt. I can't wait to see where their story goes from here.
Thanks so much for gifting me with an eARC! I'm truly grateful!
I really liked how this went back in time to show how Nicky rose up in this king status. I also love the best friends brother trope, it's one of my favorites ♡ They had such great chemistry and they would do anything for each other! They would die for each other. I felt bad for Daphne throughout the book. Poor girl couldn't catch a break with her mother. She deserves the world. The spice was great. (I am not a fan of the "daddy" kink but hey, to each their own)
Let me start by saying that I Stop Somewhere Waiting for You is my favorite book I have ever read. When I knew Nicky was getting a book, I was counting down the days. Nicky and Daphne are toxic as hell but their love is one of a kind.
Amanda has truly done it once again. The way that these characters tear every emotion from my body. I laughed, I cried, I loved. I cannot wait for the second half of their duet❤️
Amanda Jones knows how to get my heart and write perfection! She has yet to write a book that I don’t like, I have waited for this book for sooo long and to finally read Nicky’s story was EVERYTHING!! I absolutely love him and Daphne. This is a must read series of you want your heart to feel happy and if you loved Mavs story!!
I just want to start by saying this book is a must read!! I wasn’t sure how Amanda was going to top the first book, but this one was just as good. I do recommend reading book 1 first but you don’t have to!! Bishop and Nicky will always be some of my favorite main male characters I have read.
Another knockout from this amazing and talented author. This story follows Nicky C and Daphne who appear in the first book of this series. This will be a duet. A lot of angst and tension from these two characters. This is a boy obsessed!! Can’t wait to see how their story unfolds in book 2!!
This book had its teeth sunk into me so deep, if it wasn’t for me having to be a responsible adult I would’ve binge read this whole book in one day. Nicky and Daph’s story is such a roller coaster ride of emotions. I felt like I was right there with the characters getting my heart broken over and over again. Definitely book hangover material. I can’t wait to see where the next book takes us.
Absolutely loved this book. The author was not afraid to torment us. By keeping the characters from each other. Which only helps us understand the roadblocks that Mr. Nikki caused. What I love about this author is that she isn't afraid to do work out side the regular guidelines that most other romance authors keep themselves in. Which makes them very predictable. But hey If thats what you like go for it. I find Amanda very refreshing, keeping me on my toes. I literally did not want to put these past 2 books down. I will note to other readers that it was mentioned that this books can be read in any order. But I highly disagree. Read "I stopped somewhere waiting for you" FIRST. This book is amazing but if I didn't read the other book i feel like there would of been alot of gaps and like the author was rushing things along. But all the details that is missing from here is in that book! Which I get you don't want to resay alot of what has happened. You are getting Nick's and Daphnes point of view in this book to the events that happen in the last. I honestly surprise the Author didn't make it one big book with 4 main characters. But hey that's what she chooses to do. Still love it. Can't wait for part 2 to come out!

I was so happy to finally get to read Nicky and daphnes story! I have been waiting but the only reason it’s not 5 stars is because I wish I could’ve read more on Nicky groveling to Dee! But other than that awesome book and helped click a lot of other things into place for me!
