A scientist is missing...
Alaskan fishermen are getting their fingers bitten off...
And the fish that we eat is at the root of a conspiracy that will change us all.

Paranormal detective Sterling Strange faces his most horrifying case yet. Alaskan fishermen are being mutilated. Soon after being attacked, the fishermen disappear. Sterling's quest to determine the fate of the missing men takes him to a wilderness fish farm, far up a remote inlet. But the investigation takes a back seat to survival when Sterling finds himself next on the fish farmer's list.

Brood is a 20,000 word novella (approximately 85 pages) that takes the reader on a wild and frightening ride deep into the wilderness where fish are being bred for more than their meat.

“Brood” by Lars Guignard really doesn’t fit any of the standard Fiction genres, so I’ve had to come up with a new one. From now on, “Brood” will be classified simply as “Awesome Fiction”. Sterling Strange is a Private Investigator; Nicky Lang, formerly a psychiatrist, is his assistant. Sterling’s last name couldn’t be a better fit for the case he’s on in this book. In fact, his office should have “Strange Investigations” stenciled on the door, if it doesn’t already.

Contacted by the ex-wife of Walter Kronski, a disgraced marine biologist, Sterling agrees to try to find the man, who has been out of contact for three months. Last heard from in the fishing community of Fair Harbor, Alaska, Kronski is just one of 17 men, mostly fishermen, who have gone missing over the previous 11 months. Why has that not caught the attention of law enforcement personnel?

Strange and Lang arrive in Fair Harbor to learn they are not at all welcome in the community. Fair Harbor is filled with hard working commercial fishermen. They have little interest in panty-waist city slickers poking their noses into things that don’t concern them. Fortunately Strange has a friend in the FBI, so the local sheriff is basically ordered to cooperate with them. As far as Kronski is concerned, the whole community is apparently happy that he disappeared. But the other missing men all had one thing in common: each of them had lost fingers or toes in a fishing mishap just prior to going missing. Coincidence? Not likely.

With barely nominal help from the sheriff, and outright hostility from everybody else, the two P.I.’s work on their own to find and follow up on clues. What they find is anything except what they hoped to find. They did locate the body of Kronski… but he looked more like a human-fish hybrid than anything else. And that was NOT the weirdest thing that happened in this novel! Official cover-ups dating back decades, government collusion, alien spaceships, bizarre events around every corner… Fair Harbor was a hotbed of the strange, the weird, and the bizarre.

Will this be the final case for Strange and Lang? Have they finally gotten into something too deep to dig their way back out? Only by reading this book will you find out. I can assure you, though; once you start reading you won’t be able to put it down until you finish it. I recommend this book to anyone who likes suspense, action, science fiction, or just plain awesome fiction! This one rates the full 5 stars.

This is a strange tale indeed. Hybrid men-fish amongst other strange goings on in Alaska. A good introduction to Sterling Strange

I'm really surprised by the incredibly mixed reviews on Amazon, people seem to be either giving this 4/5 or 1 stars, apparently you love or hate it, I can gladly say I really enjoyed it. With the huge amount of books to choose from it's easy to read a page or two and skip a book all together. This grabbed me from the start and held my interest until the end. The book was short however this wasn't due to the story (which for me was wrapped up nicely) but due to all of the extra samples of other books at the end which meant I had finished the Brood but had only reached about 60% complete (that may be an exageration, it's been a while since I read this.) As other reviewers have mentioned this really reminds you of the X files and has a really cool, small town setting. It does play into some cliches but for me, welcome ones. I really hope there is more to follow in the Strange investigations series!

Interesting story. I like the characters, though I definitely feel like I need more of the back story on them. Would love to learn more about Sterling Strange and his past. Especially some of the events hinted at by the author. What happened to him in college? Would love to read the story about what happened to Nicky's best friend that brought her and Sterling together.

This book almost seems to be the second or third book of a series. I will be looking for more stories about Sterling Strange and his interesting investigations in the future.

OK this was just a lot of fun. It reminded me of the first couple seasons of X-Files, back when they investigated one-shot weird shit. This title is free on Kindle. Don't think about it too hard, just enjoy it! :)

Interesting premise but didn't wrap up in the end. I'm all for a book staying open for a sequel, but nothing wrapped up including but not limited to WHY things were happening, it was sort of speculated, once briefly, but still too open ended for my taste.

this book was a good start for this author ...he kept me involved even though I thought it was good but it did have a downside...it was too short...keep writing. can't wait for next Mr. Strange.

A dark little story. As the trailer says: for Stephen King fans. I read it because I read another book by this author, Lethal Circuit.

Very strange! Reminded me of an episode of Buffy the Vampire Slayer where Xander infiltrates the swim team.
