My story about how I became a 'Home Brewer' and of the failures and disasters that I experienced from the start. It goes on to tell of my discovery into Pressure Brewing and kegging and how I have adopted this method with minimal equipment costs and have applied it to my 'Home Brewing'. The amount of money that I have saved is staggering, but the best part is that I have a beer that is second to none, it is just like to beer you would get at the pub, only better! This New Edition book is now fully Illustrated for step by step beer brewing, and gear cleaning, so simple you will wonder why you didn't do this before
I was born in Blackpool England in 1949. Emigrated with my parents, to Australia in 1959.
We had ten moves in the first ten years of living in Australia and the family finally settled near Canberra at Sutton New South Wales.
My wife and I have travelled Australia extensively and we finally settled in Cairns, Far North Queensland where I am now retired and just love life.
Why did I start writing? well, at the age of 70, I started to brew beer and keg it, my friends thought it was so good and asked for the recipe. I wrote so many recipes for friends that by the time I was 74, I thought that I might as well write a book about brewing beer! and I have not stopped writing since.
I think that I am getting better with each book that I write, not just in my stories but more in how I tell them. Some readers tell me that they have noticed an improvement, but that does not detract from the earlier books.
As a newish home brewer, I find social media assistance to be varied and often contradictory. However, a social media post led me to Max's book. I bought it to read on my tablet and immediately read it. I have learnt a few more tricks from Max, but brewing 57 litres of the same beer in a Fermzilla is not my intent. Nevertheless, although my chosen path will be to move away from the Brewart (10 litre) system by using a smaller SS fermenter, I have already bought a kegerator and my kegging method is a little different but enough controls around it to be successful. One thing I have found, on my journey, is to have a good relationship with my local home brew shop. Their advice does help. Well done Max for writing about your journey, there are aspects I will now explore myself.
