She came in first, medium height, slender, with shoulder length strawberry blond curls and big blue-gray eyes. A cherubic face made her look younger than she probably was but the medical scrubs she wore said she was at least in her early twenties. Kani O'Brian gave the girl her latte and watched her walk to one of the booths near the back, but it wasn't until the tall, muscular young man with the dark blond hair and slate blue eyes headed the same way that Kani really started to pay attention. The late shift at the Midnight Café was great for getting some of her college coursework done, but during the summer she was bored out of her mind. So, on nights like this, when couples ventured in, Kani loved to imagine their backstory.
These two, she decided, a mischievous glint in her bright green eyes, were having a secret tryst. Both were in a relationship and this was the place they'd chosen to steal away for a few clandestine minutes.
