When Hank Martínez landed back in Charleston after being gone for eleven years, there were only two things he wanted: to find a gym he could easily get to from his apartment and to hang out with his three best friends as much as possible. He hadn’t seen them since he enlisted in the Army at just eighteen to escape the hand of an abusive father and they were more of a family to him than his dad ever was.
That was until he saw the blonde girl at the gym every morning, reading between her sets. Who reads at the gym? When she called out to him one morning, pretending he was her boyfriend to rescue her from some creep who couldn’t take a hint, it was game over.
Bailey Brown had been living the life of her dreams until the night everything changed. Two years later, she was living with her best friend and trying to make do by working odd jobs around the city. The only real things that brought her joy were her books and her morning trips to the gym. But when she saw him walk in wearing his worn-out combat boots, everything started to change for her.
Bailey has scars she hasn’t told many people about, but the more she gets to know the shy soldier from the gym, the more she realizes he has scars of his own. Together, they work to heal and discover what it means to not let your past define your future. That you aren’t broken forever and if you let them, the people you love can be the reason you start to mend.

Mending Me is a meet-cute, strangers-to-lovers story that packs the heat but will also make you swoon. This story represents an interracial couple who help one another heal from their past and will give you the happily ever after you’re looking for. It is an interconnected, stand-alone story and is the first book in The Nat. 20 Series!
Rebecca Wrights is a romance author writing stories about swoon-worthy men and the women they adore. She is all about creating stories and characters that her readers can connect and relate to, while also falling madly in love with them. Small-town romances and steamy love scenes can be expected in each of her stories.
When she’s not writing, Rebecca is playing with her pups or spending time with her very own, swoon-worthy guy. She is based in Charleston, SC which inspires the setting in her debut novel, Feels Like Coming Home which is set to release in early 2024!
I got drawn to this book thanks to the aesthetic title on instagram. They’re both beautiful and sexy yet not everything that shines is gold 🤓
It’s a cute book. But the narration is a bit boring. The dialogues are so cheesy and corny. “Oh you make me feel whole again”, “oh I will spend my whole life trying to make you happy” blah blah
Thank God it’s not a long book.
It could have been so deep and soulful especially with what they both went through yet the whole healing journey was a matter of a few pages.

Review : Arc review I freaking loved this book it was sweet and heartfelt. I love Hank with all my heart, and Bailey is so strong
Bailey and Hank meet at the gym
Hank has left the army after 11 years and is back home, and Bailey was being hit in my creep at the gym, so she used Hank as her fake boyfriend
Then after weeks she asks him if he's ever gonna ask her out so they go out.
Then there was a time when things were getting spicy, but Bailey had a flashback, and they stopped
Bailey was raped 2 years ago at an event, so she's got trauma when she tells Hank she was worried he wouldn't want her . But he doesn't see her any differently
I love hanks friend group and that they play D&D every Wednesday, and Bailey comes to hang out and read .
Hank asked kolbi if he could find some information on Bailey attack .
The spice in this book soo good . And when Hank read to Bailey spicy books when she was in the bath .
Kolbi found some information on the attack and Hank told Bailey and she was kinda upset and she needed some space but she goes to him
She wants to fight this and get justice and she does .
The end Bailey ends up working as an event planner for kolbi which she's saving to start her own business.
Hank and Bailey get engaged and move in together.
I can't wait to read about the other boys .
Quotes:
That was the magic of books. They could completely transport you into an entirely different universe with little to no effort. They acted like a guide to another realm where you could get completely lost in love or adventure or heartache. Books would carry you away from reality and let you stay as long as you liked. Books were a place to escape, to get away, to become someone new. Someone without scars or bruises or broken pieces.
“You got a name, soldier?” her southern drawl teased. “A name? Yes! I have a name. My name is Hank. Hank Martínez.” I jutted my hand towards her. When she took it, sparks of electricity shot up my arm and into my heart. Fucked. You are so fucked. “Bailey Brown.” She smiled at me before dropping my hand. “Well, I’m going to finish my set now. Thanks again for helping me.”
Malcolm asked me which gym I went to because, as he put it, ‘a beautiful woman like her needed to be taken out and shown off’ and if I wasn’t going to be man enough to do it, he would do it himself. I told him to fuck off and that I would knee cap him if he even tried.
The story sounded so much better coming from his lips, especially when we got to a spicy part of the book. Since I had read hundreds of romance books, I knew when the story was about to get risqué and I waited with excitement to see how he would handle it. “He bent down and,” he paused and brought the book closer to his nose and his eyes went wide as he read the next part in his head. He lifted his eyes to me where I sat in the tub, watching him with anticipation. “Is this what women want? For us to do…. this?” “I don’t know what he’s doing, my narrator has stopped narrating,”

Thank you Love Notes PR and Rebecca Wrights to giving me the opportunity for an advanced readers copy of mending me!
The story follows Bailey, a book and gym obsessed girl in her twenties, who’s currently trying to figure out her life and Hank, a 29-year old veteran who just came home after 11 years of active duty.
It’s a fast-paced insta love between a confident and feisty woman and her ex-military, biker boyfriend who’s just equally obsessed with her and Dungeons and Dragons. Both share a troubled past and they learn to heal together.
Bailey and Hank are swoon-worthy characters and so cute together that I had to giggle a couple of times while reading their story. Hank is the greenest of green flags, fiercely protective but shy, just a golden retriever for his girl.
His friends - who surely will get a book of their own - are a unique couple of humans thrown together and I really like their board game ritual.
But as much as I enjoyed reading about this blooming love, Hank wo never gets tired of declaring his love for his woman, Bailey who’s as strong as she’s beautiful and the Spanish spice it all felt a bit … artificial? Colourless? Blank? It’s a dual POV which I usually love but here a lot of what the reader already knows gets repeated, as well as complete scenes and dialogues whereas other things just happen „off-screen“. I’m mourning the lack of in-depth character development and a real tension arc.
But all in all, it’s a super cute read without a lot of drama and perfect for summer reads and spring feelings!
this love story felt very real, like it could be a true story. unlike a lot of romance books that are very dramatized this was very realistic!
i had a love hate relationship with that, because i actually love the drama lol. but it was still cute!! it kind of felt like one of my friends was telling me her love story. its definitely something that could happen irl instead of the crazy slow burns or scenarios in most books. they had a meet cute at a gym and went on dates :)
my one other criticism is the pacing would have made more sense as a novella, i think. they went on a date pretty quickly and around 150 pages in i got the feelings i usually get when a book is ending.
mexican spanish speaking mmc, soldier mmc, bookish fmc, nerdy mmc, found family
cw for rape//assault (not graphically described but it is a large part of the fmcs past. i felt it was handled well)
This was a low angst, meet cute, Veteran(biker boy) both gym rats sadly this wasn't for me. As a Latina the MMC spanish was cringe to me for some reason. Wish I could have liked it more.
I’ve waited for months and months for this book, and it was well worth the wait.
Hank is a dream, and Bailey is, too. She is a total spitfire and I was absolutely LIVING for it. My heart swelled in so many scenes, I shattered for her. I would go down swinging for Bailey and for Hank, too.
Omg I am in love with this book! You know when they say a character is a green flag, well Hank Martinez is a green forest ok.He is supportive,a gentleman, loving, and he really Listens to her.Bailey Brown is strong, independent, sweet, sunshine of a woman even through all she’s been through. Both of these characters are survivors and don’t let their pasts ruin their future.Futures that are incredibly bright by the way because these two can do anything especially together🥹.I am just so in love with them and this story as whole.I was swooning the entire time!I laughed,I cried,I had the best time reading this ARC and am honored to have been chosen to.
- H 29, h (probably same age) - Former amy - Hero Celibate 10 y alomost - He fell first and hardest - Trigger warning: rape (not in details, but some) - No 3 act break up - No owd
They meet in the gym and instantly attracted to each other. He helps her when a guy hits on her. He fell first and hard, and he’s so shy it’s adorable!
Hank has trauma after being beaten by his father after when his mother sides She was rapes two years ago, and has trauma from the attack. She hasn’t been with a man like that since.
He’s not very experienced, and with her it’s the first time he goes down on a woman. Get the impression she is more experienced, but nothing after she got attacked.
Safety: - No owd. He hasn’t been on a date since leaving the army 11 years ago, and says he hasn’t been with a woman almost just as long! - She used to date and have fun before she got raped 2 years ago. She has dates since then, but never trusted anyone to sleep with them

I’m disappointed because I was so excited. The characters fell very flat. The was no chemistry at all.
I also am so confused about who reads an actual physical book between sets at the gym. Typically my rests between sets were long enough to fire off a quick text, not read a page or a chapter.
I was really looking forward to this book after the hype on Booktok and Instagram, however I DNF’d at 44%. I personally did not like the writing style and the constant repetition of non-essential information. I did like the characters and the tropes that appeared in the book so far however the story just did not grip me. I could easily guess what happened next and with most of the books that I’ve read, I could do that too so I do not have a problem with that. But they would bring it in a different way or with a certain twist which would make it enjoyable to read.
not sure what to rate this I flew through this book but literally felt nothing
there is some heavy topics discussed and sad or angsty moments that I would typically get emotional over but didn’t shed one tear
idk I guess the writing just wasn’t for me but even badly written books get me emotional and I don’t think this was badly written, per say, just not my cup of tea
This was my first time reading this author and I'm so glad I was able to get this ARC and she was introduced to me.
With Hank (the MMC) coming home from serving in the army for the past eleven years he only wanted 2 things; an apartment and a gym. His early morning workouts lead to him seeing a girl who intrigueds him when he see's her reading between sets.
Bailey (the FMC) who is in between jobs and recovering from a trauma, goes to the gym every morning with one goal; to become strong. That's where she meets a guy who works out in combat boots.
I really enjoyed the lightness of this story even though there were some dark themes. It was nice to see the main characters relationship develop as they helped eachother to heal from their pasts. The way Hank is the most book boyfriend ever! He reads her spicy book to her while she soaks in the bath... And who doesn't want a hot guy with a motorbike that speaks to you in Spanish 🥵
* ARC * Trauma Gosh this book was just deep. There was so much going on emotionally between the MCs and my heart hurt for them. I really loved seeing their connection grow. And once they opened up about their pasts, everything just felt peaceful. This book definitely has quite a but of TWs and I would make sure you read those first.
when i tell you i binged this book, i mean i binged this book!
i have been waiting for miss rebecca wrights to release this book for waaaaay too long. i swear she was teasing us with this book for years because i just wanted it so so badlyyy!
this book didn’t disappoint! it was a very sweet read & i am so excited for the rest of the series!! let me tell you, the banter & friendships in this book were top tier! INCREDIBLE!! i think that is one of the main reasons i already need all the other books in my possession. the way she wrote found family in such a genuine & perfect way. you see how they grew together but are separate && each of their individual personalities. *chefs kiss* when i say the banter in the book was top tier, i freaking mean it. when i read this book i started giggling & my four year old girlie asked me why i was laughing because i couldn’t contain myself. that alone should make you want to read this book.
i do have to say that bailey & hank’s relationship starts very insta attraction, so if that isn’t your vibe then you’ll want to know that going in. but my gosh!! hank is the consent KING & i loved that especially paired with the (trigger warning) trauma that bailey is dealing with from being sa’d. the way these two really helped each other heal in their own way in just so beautiful && i know we’ll have to see them more in the other books. also, a shy motorcyle veteran?? sign me up.
okay now the good part, the spice was spicinggg. so so good!! but if you aren’t into open door, rebecca includes a “dicktionary” i’m her book noting chapters you might want to skip if spice is too much for you. again, so freaking good!!
lastly, rebecca is making me want to send this book to my hubby so he can take notes🙈 i’m sorry, but what do you mean hank asks her what helps her on her bad days && then when she has a bad day he gets everything ready for her. a bath, a book, this man READS to her, && then proceeds to ask to brush her hair??? immediate SWOON! i do not want to spoil anything more for you but pls pls pls read!
i think i’m forever a rebecca wrights stan now, so watch out as i gush over her & her books constantly.
"We were each other's missing piece and together, we completed one another."
Hank Martínez 💚
After leaving his hometown eleven years ago, Hank Martinez, an ex-soldier, returns to Charleston to lead a civilian life. He starts going to a gym near his apartment, where he sees her for the first time - a beautiful blonde woman who reads in the gym between sets. And somehow, she intrigued him.
Bailey Brown 💚
After going through that horrible night two years ago, Bailey Brown stopped working at her old job and started doing some side gigs. She goes to the gym early in the morning, where she sees him for the first time -a handsome man with dark curls, tanned skin and wearing combat boots to the gym. And somehow, he intrigued her.
This book is about Hank and Bailey, who fall in love instantly at first sight. Both of them have their share of traumatic pasts that they need to heal from, and when they fall in love, they help each other in their healing process.
So, the entire time while reading the book, I was asking myself, "Where is the plot?" And oh! I finished reading the book as well.🤡 But still, I couldn't find it, so I'm asking again. WHERE IS THE PLOT?💀
The beginning was okay, with the introduction of the characters and Hank and Bailey's first encounter. Hank and Bailey met at the gym and fell in love with each other right away. From there, their relationship took off. Everything moved so fast—I mean, so damn fast and some scenes made me cringe.😬 Gradually, the plot fell bland and became monotonous, where it was only about their daily routine.😑 Like how Hank goes to Bailey's apartment or vice versa and then they have s*x or how they go out on Hank's bike where Hank helps Bailey with the helmet and riding jacket or how Hank goes to work and thinks about Bailey or about Hank playing Dungeons and Dragons with his friends every Wednesday night. That's it. This is the plot.😶 And the spice was meh.
But, the traumatic pasts of Hank and Bailey made me sad and what happened to them was unfair.🤍 But I felt there wasn't much focus on how they helped each other heal, but rather more focused on their monotonous daily routine.
And the last chapters felt...artificial? I don't know, but it was rushed and some of the actions and scenes felt illogical.🤷🏻♀️
Coming to the characters, Hank is an ex-soldier who returns home after 11 years of duty to lead a civilian life. Bailey is a strong and confident woman and loves to read. Both of them are 29 years old, but to be honest, they acted like fifteen year old ho*ny high school kids.👀 Oh my god! This Hank guy? Whenever he sees Bailey, he's like "My d*ck twitched." He gets turned on like every damn time.🥴 There was no real angst and tension between them. Also, there's no proper character development.
But, I loved Hank's friends. Kolbi, Malcom and Conrad were such a vibe and I loved Kolbi the most. I also loved Ophelia, Bailey's best friend. She was more like a sister to Bailey and stood with her when Bailey's life went black that night, two years ago.🥺♥️
Overall, I can say that the insta love and insta lust elements and also, the main characters acting like ho*ny high school kids made the book boring and cringe at the same time. I just skimmed through the book.
Thank you, Rebecca Wrights and Love Notes PR, for this ARC of Mending Me.😇
ARC review Thank you so much to Rebecca Wrights and Love Notes PR for letting me read it in advance it was a pleasure.
4 (I try not to give books 5 stars, but very close) The story follows Hank and Bailey as they get to know one another and overcome challenges in their lives together. My personal favorite thing in the whole story (apart from the MC's of course) was the friendships found in the book. Rebecca Wrights managed to make real characters outside of the main characters, something I find some books lacking. Some reactions during reading include "OMG, cute", "awww Hank", "yes! Go Bailey" and at the end "Amazing! Book". If that wasn't enough to make you want to read the book my recommendation would sound something like this "if you want a sweet romance, with a little spice, then this is a good bet! The characters are so cute and if you love softie men Hank is for you! He is so sweet, and the representation of his culture was nicely done. Bailey is the typical sunshine character always radiating happiness and smiles, but something lurks in her past... if you want to find out what, you're gonna have to read the book" On a more serious note I would recommend the book as an easy summer read, it took me about 3-4 hours to read and was not hard to follow (something i personally love in a beach read type book). The book includes a dicktionary so if you want to skip any spice in the book you can still enjoy it without unwanted scenes. The book also leaves you wanting for the next books in the series so be wary of that! I want to know everything already!!

I was so excited to read this since it’s my very first ARC book review! This is my first book of Rebecca and may I say, loved every second of it! I’m latina (originally from Puerto Rico) and the fact that the MMC is also latino makes me happy 🥰. Loved Bailey from the start and how badass she was when defending Hank from his father. Hank is a literal golden retriever and I’m forever in love with him. Can’t wait for the next few books 🤍
This entire review has been hidden because of spoilers.
I don’t think a MMC has ever made me giggle so much. I always swoon (to be honest I swoon and blush very easily) but I don’t giggle as often. Hank had me giggling every time his name appeared on the page. He was just so damn cute. He isn’t a shy person at all except but when Bailey was around all of a sudden it’s like his brain couldn’t function (that should be a trope by the way), he was simply too adorable (in a very attractive way 😩) and the way Bailey loved to tease him 🤭 they truly were a perfect pair.
Both Bailey and Hank have wounds from the past and seeing them heal and mend each others past wounds was everything. The way they were there for each other and were ready to fight for each other (or together 🤭) 🥰
If there is one thing Rebecca wrights can write it’s obsessed men. Hank was so obsessed with Bailey from the very beginning. Him remembering everything about her, and loving everything about her and thinking about her 24/7. All starting on the day he first saw her at the gym in the morning.
I think the only reason Mending Me isn’t a 5⭐️ for me is because I didn’t feel for the characters as much as I thought I would and not as much as I did when I read Feels Like Coming Home. I still loved the characters so so much and did get emotional in some scenes just not as much as I thought I would.
Overall an amazing book!! Definitely recommend and I can’t wait for book 2!!
I was so looking forward to this book after all the hype on booktok and Instagram, but unfortunately it fell flat for me. I couldn't get behind the writing style, the lack of character development, the constant repetition of insignificant information, and how easily I could figure out what would happen next. Maybe I'm in a reading slump and need to come back to this another time 🥺
This is the kind of book I’m going to reread when I need a hug. It’s low angst and comforting. It’s a story of healing and finding that person who embraces all your quirks and loves you just as you are. Despite the overall cozy nature of the story, it addresses some heavy topics, so you should check the content warnings before diving in.
Bailey and Hank are so cute together. I love that he’s the shy one and she’s the confident one. I love that they’re both strong, despite what they’ve been through. They’ve both been through traumatic experiences in that past and got through it with the help of amazing friends that we get to meet in this book. I love the strong friendships that exist in this story. Hank has a group of childhood friends that are more like brothers. They all have different personalities that fit together to make a fun, supportive group. When he comes back to town after 11 years, they pick up where they left off, like he was never gone. I love that. I’ve got friends like that. We all live in different places now but when we get together every few years, it’s like we were never apart.
I love how the relationship develops. They start to fall for each other quite quickly, which often feels unnatural, but it worked for this story. Sometimes you meet someone you just click with. There were no games, no wondering if the other person likes them or if it’s too soon to text them. If they wanted to spend time together, they did. Because they felt strongly for each other, they were able to be more open and start to heal. It was nice to see them be brave and show each other their scars (figuratively and literally). It was heartwarming to see how attentive Hank was to Bailey’s pain/discomfort and how he was patient and gentle and determined to make her feel safe. And with her feeling safe and accepted with him she was able to help him heal as well. It was so nice to see that.
The romance is as sweet as the spice is hot. Hank may be shy, but in the bedroom, he’s anything but. And things don’t only happen in the bedroom. He really becomes more confident as the story progresses. And even in the heat of things, he always seeks consent and makes sure she feels safe. To make things hotter, this man speaks Spanish, both in the spicy moments and the swoony moments. Honestly, I hate the gym, but if I can find my own Hank Martinez there, I’ll start going.
You’ll love this story if you love a meet-cute, cute nicknames, romantic gestures, a Spanish-speaking MMC, a bookish FMC, found family and strong characters who heal together. I can’t wait for the other books in this series.
*I received an early copy from the author. This is my honest review.
This was such a breath of fresh air read. Don’t get me wrong it’s emotional and you should definitely check the trigger warnings before diving into this book as it handles some pretty heavy situations, but still I just loved this story. I loved that the characters were beyond relatable, I loved that this book focused on the sweet get to know you side of the relationship and like I said while the heavy stuff was there it was worked through I still simply enjoyed that there was a sense of peace in this book where things got solved without to many crazy twists and turns. Don’t get me wrong some crazy twists and turns are sometimes a necessity and I enjoy them, I just also found myself enjoying that the resolution of some of the heavy topics of this book flowed at the same steady pace as the rest of the book! So if you’re looking for a book filled with amazing and relatable characters just trying to find their footing in this crazy world, a sweet enviable romance, so many cute dates, found family who has your back no matter what, hilarious banter, a retired soldiers MMC who is the perfect blend of sweet for his girl and protective while still giving her room to fly, a kind sunshiny FMC with just the right amount of sass who’s working towards finding her footing again after a trauma two years prior put her life on hold but who is willing to throw down the gauntlet when it comes to protecting those she loves, just the right amount of spice and enough emotional moments to have you laughing and crying then make sure you add this book to your TBR immediately!
I have to say the characters in this story absolutely have my heart! Bailey was simply amazing and I found her so relatable. She was sweet, sassy and so caring for those she chose to be part of her found family. Not to mention I enjoyed reading about a character a bit older who didn’t feel like she had it all together, who felt like she was failing because she was meeting the societal expectations put on us. A feeling I think everyone can relate to! Even through all that she pushed through her fears and self-doubt and was a fiercely lovable character! Then of course you had Hank who I don’t know how anyone could not put him at the top of the book BF ranking! Not only was he caring when it came to his band of brothers but he loved Bailey fiercely! I loved how he wanted her to be fierce and fly on her own wings but was willing to be there to catch her if those wings ever tuckered out! How he was constantly thinking of ways to make her smile or her day better. I also just adored his nerdy side! And their chemistry together was just perfection, their dates were so sweet, and while they hadn’t known each other prior to their meet-cute this book still read as if they had been friends forever falling in love! And their dates! Omg swoony is all I’m going to say about that!
Overall this book was simply amazing and I can’t wait to read more from Rebecca Wrights!!
“You got a name, soldier?” her southern drawl teased. “A name? Yes! I have a name. My name is Hank. Hank Martínez.”
Wow, I havent felt an attachement to a book in a good while and I am so glad that it was for this specific book that I now have this attachment. Hank and Bailey are just perfect. Bailey with her fire and quick mouth who is hiding a terrible secret, Hank with his shy wit and protectiveness.
The fire betwen these 2 is epic, there is no other way to say it. The insta love and sexual tension from page 1 is the making of a good book, this is the first Rebecca Writghts book I have ever read and I am wondering why I havent read anything else - where have you been all my life. The spice was spicing and the love was loving - HEA guaranteed
Being a nerd I loved the aspects of DnD coming into play, this added so much to the story and gave us a decent insite into Hank, his life and his need to 'disappear' from his awful father, there is no better way than to disappear into the world of fantasy. I see you Hank Martinez - a shy guy who spent 11 years in the service, rides a bike and wears combat boots to the gym and you run into Bailey, you were toast from the first look sorry to say. Bailey is pure life and a breathe of sunshine - she is a book lover or rather smut lover and insists on reading at the most inappropriate moments, however I think if all the ladies read these books at the gym, there would be a riot. IYKYK... However this being said, her past is getting in the way of her forever and she doesnt want to face it just yet, she feels she isnt strong enough when she couldnt be stronger. The fact that Mr Martinez speaks spanish to his ray of sunshine is just *EVERYTHING* that you want in a book also who would NOT love a man that reads your smut to you while you lay in a bath - SIGN ME RIGHT UP!
Welcome to the Bookboyfriend Club Soldier, we are happy to have you!!
PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE Heed your trigger warnings, your mental health matters, there are dark themes throughout this book.

"I think I watched her more than the movie, but I was okay with that. I could watch her like this every day and be perfectly fine with it."
How to start giving a review for such a sweet book... Firstly we have Hank, Hank who just came home after serving for almost 11 years right out of high school and who's the sweet, shy, but oh-so-sexy man in the gym who works out in his army boots.
Then we have confident, kind and beautiful Bailey, who reads her spicy books between her sets at the gym, Bailey who is sunshine in human form and finds that she really wants the quiet man working out in his combat boots, to ask her out.
But both Hank and Bailey has scars from their past, both not easy to heal from, scars that took and will take time to heal, but even scars and all, they both deserve to find that having someone love and accept you for all that you are, you can heal.
Hank truly is the ultimate, green flag, golden retriever, respectful boyfriend (with a filthy mouth when it counts) and Bailey is the most open-hearted, no nonsense, bookworm, who knows what she wants and isn't afraid to let her man take control, knowing she'll always be safe when she's with him.
Their story is one filled with the perfect amount of plot and spice and all the feels.
Even though it does touch a few heavy topics, it's very much an easy read and an excellent way to show how your friends become your family and how life can be so much better if you have the right people standing next to you.
Tropes: 🫶Meet-Cute at Gym ❤️🩹Trauma Bonding and Healing 💕Interracial Couple 💚Green Flag Waving MMC 🙈He's Shy for Her ❤️🔥Strangers to Lovers
Review: This is a meet-cute with lots of cozier, warm, healing vibes. Hank has come back from the service after 10 years and is an honorable and kind man who sees blonde and bookwormy Bailey at the gym they both work out at. Hank is immediately attracted to her but terribly shy but once the ice breaks, they "go together like 🫛 and 🥕" (if you get my reference 😆).
The bit of drama comes when Bailey shows hesitation at getting physically intimate since she had an assault 2 years before. They break down walls that have hidden each other's past pain together and it's very much a healing journey. With Hank then wanting to find the guy who did this to her.
Overall it was enjoyable but the tension (if you could call it that) fell flat. It felt almost like Hank was almost too perfect and they were two perfect beautiful people together...guess I just love my angst haha. Considering Bailey's history, it also seemed contradictory in how quickly she then gave into the physical stuff after only one time of pulling away, and how she acted sometimes...just didn't quite jive. Hank was super sweet all the time! If you want a safe, low tension read with expected coziness, then this is up your ally.
So I read Rebeca’s debut book which I absolutely loved, so I was so excited for second book, Mending Me,
This book starts out with Hank (our MMC) who has just retired from the military after serving his country for the last eleven years. He connected back up with his 3 best friends, where one specifically, Kolbi got him a job in security. After already securing an apartment and a job, and a gym, he felt good about his life. That's until his early morning workouts led him to a particularly intriguing girl who reads in-between sets. “Who reads in-between sets?”
Bailey (our FMC) is a bit lost. She is working multiple odd jobs, recovering from a trauma from two years ago, working out every morning around 5am; with one goal in mind, to get strong. This is where she spots mr. combat boots and is intrigued herself.
Hank is a bit shy, so it takes a bit for him to warm up to her and find the courage to ask her out. But once he opens up and starts talking, boy that mouth on him. 🥵 And the Spanish he speaks to her, is so damn sexy!
Watching the character growth between these two and dealing with their own individual trauma and together was so heartwarming. I was obsessed with how Bailey was a smut reading bestie just like us and her love for spicy books was so relatable. Even getting Hank to read to her while she was in the bath….. Uuuhhhhh where do I get me one of those! 😍🥰
I will say there is a bit of a suspense factor in the book that will leave you on edge till the end.
4.25⭐️ Thank you Rebecca and Love Notes PR for this arc in exchange for an honest review.
Another book that I binged in a day! I was hooked by the characters and the romance and wow...Hank just whisked me off my feet. Bailey was such a sweet fmc, and she's a bookworm so of course I love her.
Their dates were so romantic and you can tell that Hank was being so respectful. I love that he's so shy.
💚meet cute 💚gym buddies 💚she's a bookworm, he's a secret nerd 💚broken hero / heroine 💚found family
A cute read with very little drama. This book did feel like a hug as they were so similar and healed each other from their traumas.
Please take care when reading this book as there are TW
Reason for rating - *SPOILERS* . . . . . . . .
Just felt like some line / aspect were repeated throughout the book. And I'm not a huge fan of insta connection, and after 9 months they get engaged...hmmm a bit unrealistic.
“The last few weeks I’d made sure I was at the gym right as they opened so I could watch her come in. I’d watch the door waiting for her to walk in like a dog waits for its owner to come home after work each day.” Ch. 5
Overall, do I recommend this book? Yes, most definitely, and I am excited to see where the rest of their stories go.
When I first found the teasers from Rebecca’s Instagram, I instantly followed and was excited to add this to my tbr. I’m thankful I was able to receive an ARC copy and am happy to say it went past my expectations. Initially, I was not planning to buy a physical copy but ended up ordering one halfway through.
The beginning of their relationship was sweet to see Hank being shy around Bailey, and her waiting on him to talk to her and ask her out. She gives him two openings prior to her asking him if he’s ever going to ask him out. He finally got the courage and asks her out but was so excited that he got a date he walked away without asking for her number, which was adorable when pointed out.
As the two are getting closer it was nice seeing the development of Hank going from shy to more of himself and seeing the protector, he became for her as his feeling developed and spoke about his scares and trauma. When he trusted her opened up, Bailey was able to tell him about her attack and why she reacted the way she did when he spent the night. The development between the two, their trust and becoming a piece of each other’s found family.
The way the boys interacted with each other, you could tell from their interactions how much they care about the group. As well as seeing Kolbi bring up how he has all their vehicles with trackers, and he checked it since Hank’s never late. Then when Bailey asks if she can join the boy’s D&D night but sat in the other room reading, because she just wanted to be close to them. I look forward to seeing how this develops for the others when they get their own books in the future and how the D&D nights will change.
When Hank goes to Kolbi to help find the person who attached Bailey. It was a sweet thought; however, it was a betrayal to her. He was right to be nervous when he was going to bring it up and know it could break the relationship. I’m happy that this didn’t get dragged out, and when she asked for space, it was given. She was able to take the time to think it over and go to him once she was ready so they could fight the battle together.
Note: My only complaint on the Mexican food within the book was when they served the tamales with rice and beans. No judgment if you eat it like that, but every Mexican person who I’ve met or am related to does not eat tamales with rice and beans.

So, this was a cute story. A story of a confident girl (even if she is the victim of S.A) and a shy Ex-military man.
These two literally mended each other!
But I feel like I have read too many stories with similar plots. So it wasn’t anything special.
Noting really happened in this story. It was just one of those insta-love and insta-lust stories.
I feel like I never really connected with the main characters in this story. Cause I felt like everything was circulating the FMCs assault and the MMCs past with his abusive father.
Nothing else was mentioned about the main characters. We just know that the MMCs mother died because his father was drunk driving. The FMCs parents or siblings were never mentioned. Nothing about the MMCs past in the army was mentioned.
Like I said, I never connected with the characters. Their relationship and their trauma is basically what this book is about.
It had some cute moments. And let’s face it, the MMC was hot!
Confused over her saying she had to read at the gym otherwise she has no time since she wasn’t working or had prior commitments. Felt soooo rushed. So much unnecessary information that didn’t add. Such as Hank and Bailey seeing another Rider on a bike and waving to them , I didn’t understand the relevance. It also skipped so much day to day but gave details about the desk he got from the side of the road. Also his dad reappearing and then promptly departing after one interaction didn’t make sense. Also i didn’t see how when Bailey was going into that house before Hank proposed to her that asking questions such as should ww be here, who’s house is it this constitutes as curious. Yes she played twenty questions one time but that doesn’t make her curious. If someone was leading me into a random stranger home i would be like what the hell is up also.
The friendships they both have are beautiful and i did like seeing such a strong bond of men in particular. Also her going to D and D night. Why go when it was clearly for Hank and his friends.
