Blindness

Rate this book
It takes a while to know who you really are. And when you lose your way, sometimes it’s hard to find it again.

Charlie Hudson was on the verge of figuring that out when her dad—the only parent and friend she ever had—died suddenly. She was barely 18, and she was alone. So she went for easy—playing life safe, running away from a home that harbored nothing but bad memories and challenges and loving a man who would take her away from it all forever.

It’s funny how chance takes over when you need it most. And that’s exactly what brought Cody Carmichael into her life. A former motocross super star, Cody was now happy to be living the blue collar life, spending his days finishing up school and his nights under the hood of some classic car, just trying to keep everything his father taught him alive. Cody and Charlie were living parallel lives, until they finally collided. And the moment he smiled at her, Charlie knew he was the one who would change everything. But was she willing to take the risk?

Cody saw through it all. He saw her—all of her. But would letting him in be too much to take? And if Charlie let herself love him—really love him—could he love her back?

*sigh* Oh Blindness...

That cover is HOT, right? It's not just me? Tan body. Tattooed arms. Black and silver DC shirt. Hat on. Can't see his eyes. Lips slightly parted. Earring. Scruffy day old beard. HOT!

I had such high hopes for this book--the cover being the main reason. But also, I loved the tutoring and ex-motocross star concepts. But sadly I was let down. The further I read into this book the more frustrated I got. I was huffing and puffing, and highlighting and making notes. If any of my friends read this one off my kindle, they're going to get a kick out of my notes like "judgmental much?" and "oh boy, shoot me now," etc. At one point Husband goes "Just put it down. You know you don't HAVE to read it, right?" And I got angry and threw a temper tantrum and said "I know I don't HAVE to, but I WANT to. I'm just not happy with what's happening, or the characters, or where this is headed. Or well...anything. But I want to know how it ends."

My frustrations began early on and continued to build. The biggest frustration I had was with the main character: Charlie. The description does give you the warning that Charlie doesn't really know who she is. And boy that couldn't be more true. At a mere Location 45 she goes on this big rant about other people and their motives--basically making extreme assumptions about the motivation behind the behavior of others. That was my first irk. I gritted my teeth, made a "you don't know that" note in my kindle, and kept moving forward.

Next Charlie makes a judgmental comment about her boyfriend Trevor's stay-at-home-mom. Granted, in this instance, Charlie does end up being pretty right on, but still. It kind of felt like a jab at stay-at-home-mom's worldwide. She's not just judgmental towards people offering condolences to her for the loss of her father, or stay-at-home-moms, she's also judgmental towards Cody himself and every other female that exists in the world.

Aside from being judgmental, Charlie is jealous, immature, and vindictive. When not receiving enough attention she pouts and throws tantrums. When any other female showed Cody (who happens to not be her boyfriend) any slight attention she retaliates by throwing herself at his stepbrother, Trevor, who is her boyfriend. Not cool.

Charlie expects Cody to behave in a way that she doesn't require of herself, and that's something I can't respect. She wants him to remain single, but she refuses to break things off with Trevor despite essentially feeling numb and dead inside when she's with Trevor. I find it utterly despicable that someone would choose to voluntarily continue a relationship with another person when that's what they feel on the inside. Is being alone so terrible that you risk tying yourself to someone you feel disdain toward and thus condemning them to a loveless relationship by default as well? She pitches fits. She throws tantrums. She lies. She cheats.

I had hoped that maybe this type of behavior would stick to Charlie herself. Maybe she's still trying to find herself as the description says and that's all there is to it. Well...not exactly. As much as I hoped Cody would be above her behavior he pretty much has a couple of moments when he behaves no better. These two hurt each other on purpose. Knowing full well in the moment what they are doing, and yet choosing to let hurt pride and wounded feelings dictate how they behave towards each other. It made mecringe. And groan. And sigh. And want to throw my kindle across the room.

The cheesy factor was also a bit extreme. I admit: I like cheesy. But I have a line, and Blindness crossed it. "In that millisecond, I soak them in, and I feel like I'm home." This is said in response to her first glance into Cody's blue eyes. It's a bit of a stretch for me to believe you can feel at home looking into a complete stranger's eyes for the first time. "I won't admit it to him, but the pain--that seconds ago was killing me--is gone. All I can feel now is the grip of his hands along my arm and the beat of his heart near my shoulder." Again, I like cheese...but this is in response to getting burned from an exhaust pipe on a car. A four-inch wide burn as it is described in the book. And yet miraculously all of that pain is gone? Yeah, I'm buying what you're selling.

So let's talk pacing. What I expected to happen in this book based of the description and the beginning was pretty much done around the 60% mark. There was a lot to remain. And most of that was where the heaviest sighing came into play. The conflict was so beyond cliche that I wanted to pluck my eyeballs out. Without revealing too much detail, Trevor's dad basically tells Charlie that he'll ruin Cody's big dream if she breaks off her relationship with Trevor for Cody. Of course, being the wonderfully benevolent, self-sacrificing, and unselfish person that Charlie is (can you feel the sarcasm radiating off of me?), she'd never let Cody's dream be taken away from him. So she willingly forfeits her relationship with Cody to stay with Trevor. And of course she can't explain this to Cody. Cody thus thinks she's a horrible person and rants and raves and acts out of pain towards her--yada yada yada. Yet when Cody finds out the truth, he essentially turns on Charlie again. I just don't buy any of it. It's too easy. This tactic is overused as a point of conflict, and I seriously contemplated putting this one down for good, despite being around the 75% mark and being so close to finishing.

Now that I've completely turned you off from this book probably, let me say that I do think that Ginger Scott shows promise as an author. Despite writing characters that I despised, conflict that was too easy, and romance that was a little too cheesy, she managed to pull me in. Even though I wanted to put this book down, I was hooked. I had to know what was going to happen. With a little polishing and digging a little deeper into knowing who her characters are and finding conflict that is a little more believable, natural to the events taking place, while not being too easy, I think Ginger Scott has a good career ahead of her. I hope that she will continue to grow as an author.

Blindness was nothing that I was expecting. I couldn't connect to the characters and the conflict had me rolling my eyes, but I found myself hooked nontheless. I can only give Blindness 2 Stars, but I could also look at that cover for days at a time. Have you read Blindness? What did you think? Let me know!

Confession time, I stayed up until 4 this morning to finish this dang book! I can't even remember the last itme I did that and this isn't my typical read at all....so yeah. Take from that what you will. :P

Full review to come!

Edited to add review:
I need to admit, right out front, that normally, I'm not one to read books that have anything to do about cheating. I loathe them on principle alone but every now and then, one will come along that will completely capture my attention, and not only hold it, but make it impossible to put the story down.

And while when I picked this up, I didn't realize it contained any sort of cheating or O honestly wouldn't have started it, I couldn't help but read it after the very first chapter. I was completely caught up in the story from the very beginning and instead of putting the book down in disgust, I stayed up until four in the morning reading it because, I just had to know how it all ended.

I'm not going to say very much more about this story, other than I loved all of the characters and I was sad that some of them were hurt and sad that some weren't, but more than anything, I will leave you with this, even if you don't like these sort of reads, even if cheating, like me, usually leave you frustrated and disgusted, take a chance on this one. It was worth it.

Well written, mesmerizing, great characters, and a good storyline, are all things that will keep you reading, keep you flipping through the pages.

This is one of my favorite covers. But the story wasn't so much....

Charlie was dumped off by her junkie mom to live with her cop dad when she was 7. It wasn't until she was 17 that he actually became active in her life. By 18 he was dead and Charlie was left alone. Leaving home to go to college she meets and dates Trevor. He comes from an affluent dad and aspires to be a lawyer. Its really weird how she moves in with Trevor when she really didn't want to, and the kicker is he lives with his parents. AND he leaves to move to Washington for some shit he's into. I was losing interest.
She meets a hot tutor Cody, who "happens" to be Trevor's step brother, and black sheep of the family. He was a motor cross rider and shattered his leg in an accident. He happens to be moving in at Trevor's also in the garage/apartment.
So of course with Trevor gone, she falls for Cody. I didn't get the attachment she had for Cody. She was still stringing along Trevor, living in his parents house and hanging out with and pining for Cody.
Now, cheating isn't a issue with me, but I couldn't really find much to like about Charlie. She was kind of a hot mess to me with her issues, her insta lust and love for Cody, and it was obvi she wasn't really into Trevor.
The weird thing also, in the beginning it seems like Trevor is a major dick, and possibly has the intention of cheating on her. Then you realize he's not a dick, but she is.

Cody hardly knows this girl, but she swears he "Gets" her. I don't like how things played out with the three of them. It felt unresolved.

I'm making it a point to go back and read all the Ginger Scott books I've somehow missed over the years and I'm kicking myself hard for letting Blindness sit on my kindle untouched for so long. I really, really, really loved this book.

Thoughtless by SC Stephens was one of the first indie romances I ever read and I loved it so much. That level of heartbreak and angst and wrongness and romance in that story is something I hope to find every time I open a book. I can remember exactly how I felt when I read that book and it's become my mission in life to have those elusive feelings recaptured. It hasn't happened often over the years, but every now and then I am afforded those heart tugs, those angry, heartbroken emotions, those infuriating, maddening feelings. And I just got them. Blindness just gave me alllllll those feelings.

The dynamic Charlie finds herself in, caught between her commitment to Trevor and her new feelings for his step-brother, Cody, is difficult and so wrong... Its an impossible choice. The back and forth, the stolen glances, the delicious deceit, the lies, the torment of fighting back the feelings that are so right and so wrong all at once, the jealousy... THIS. IS. WHY. I. READ.

This book is so angsty. Watching these characters have to watch each other continue their charades of being with other people while they long for each other is MADDENING. Waiting for them to admit their feelings. Waiting for them to choose. It drove me freaking crazy! And I loved to hate every single second of it.

I don't tend to write reviews for books I read on my free time much these days. Sometimes it's nice to just enjoy a book, star it, and move on to the next. But I couldn't let this one go without screaming about it for a minute. This is old school indie romance. This book is one of those books I should have read in the glory days of indie NA romance, the Thoughtless era, the days of Travis Maddox and Kellan Kyle and Lucas Mayfield and Jack Howard... this book is reminiscent of the days where it felt good to get mad. It feels so good to feel my heart ache and crack over what goes on in this story. Everything about it is exactly what I love about reading romance and I can't wait to uncover what else Ginger Scott has in her arsenal that I might have missed.

“You found me.”

Charlie was lost when her father died. He was her dad and best friend. She picked herself up and went to college where she attempted to find out who she was. Along the way, she met Trevor. He was every mother’s dream son-in-law. Charlie’s relationship with Trevor seemed picture perfect. Or at least Charlie believed this until she met Cody.

Cody was Trevor’s polar opposite. But what drew Charlie to him was the state of ease she felt whenever she was with him. Cody made it easy to let her hair down.

“I didn’t like that every interaction I had with him left something behind – like a scratch I had to tend to and just couldn’t seem to leave alone.”

You can read the blurb and the book for the rest of the story. What I want to talk about is how well written this story is. How incredibly connected I felt to these characters.

The premise is a love triangle, but this book wasn’t written as such. It was like the relationships were secondary to the personal growth and discovery that took place in each of them.

So let’s break it down, shall we?

This story had me from the first page. Charlie isn’t broken, but only because she won’t allow herself to break. She should be, but she plasters on a strong façade for the world to view. She hurts, but never allows herself to feel it. She pushes back the pain. She moves forward and ignores it. <= This I got from the prologue.

“I’m sheltered, and it’s the first time I’ve ever actually felt my heart stop from being in someone’s arms.”

This book brought me to actually tears. Like, take a deep breath and slow down so you can read, tears. That doesn’t happen to me. I felt the pain and joy along with each and every character. I didn’t read this book, I lived it. My heart raced during some parts and I held my breath during others. I wanted all of them to win.

The way the author described the love scenes was one of my favorite parts. She allowed the intimacy dominate the scene rather than the act itself. It was intense and breathtaking. Reading about a simple kiss or the graze of two hands made me sigh.

I hate to give anything away about this story. There were a lot of surprise connections and complications that took place. What I can say it that I am so happy that I read it. It tore me apart and put me back together again.

“And this is my punishment. I get to love you, but I can’t fucking have you.”

I give this book 4.5 stars

WAS NOT KEEN ON THE HEROINE

Charlie Hudson was dumped on her fathers doorstep at age 7 by her junkie mother. Her father fed and clothed her, but other than that he pretty much ignored her. That all changed once she became 17, when something happened to Charlie that got his attention. But no sooner had they started to build a relationship then he died.

Charlie is at college her boyfriend Trevor is hoping to be a high flying lawyer. Then Charlie meets Cody ex-motor ross rider who has been in an accident and smashed his leg. He becomes Charlie's tutor. Charlie is attracted to Cody the whole tatooed biker bad boy image really gets to her. But she's with Trevor.

While this was an interesting read, it was only okay for me. My main reason for my three star rating was my dislike of Charlie. She was totally judgemental about everybody. But her own behaviour was really unappealing. She would be ridiculously jealous of other girls who showed an interest in Cody, but she and Cody were not boyfriend and girlfriend, and feeling the way she did I just didn't get why she didn't finish with Trevor. This wasn't really for me.

Really good NA, love triangle read!
I did have to remind myself a few times that these people are young (cause I'm 39, and clearly that's old, lol.) It was very emotional, lots of back-and-forth, push-and-pull. I love that angst!

I was not sure I would enjoy the book since there is a love triangle, cheating, and a girl that seems to leap before she looks. But I did, I really enjoyed the book. This is your typical NA book, it is filled with angst, torment, painful choices, painful past events, complications, and lovely connections.

Charlie is working toward making her life turn out to be less lonely, less emotionally draining, and to have a soft place to fall. She makes a number of choices in her life that seem to be on the right track but seriously cause her to double check those choices when she meets Cody.

I had some trouble with the female character of this story, Charlie Hudson. Mainly, because she seemed like a victim at times and took limited responsibility for some of the pain she was causing those around her. She made some of the life choices in her life more complicated by the way she handled her problems. She would either act like the problems did not exist, jump right in before thinking through the consequences, or wait to be saved.

I loved Cody Carmichael. Everyone pretty much treated him like shit, except for his friends. Cody has the misfortune of being labeled a lazy, washed up, no good loser. But he really is a hardworking, dedicated, loyal, loving, heart of gold man. The betrayal that he suffers from those that are suppose to be his family is heartbreaking.

I guess I am okay with Cody and Charlie together. She did have numerous tragedies that she was working through and she was not deliberately mean. She was just obtuse to the hurt she caused and feelings of those around her. I guess she tried not to hurt others but her actions caused a lot of pain and heartbreak to others. Anyway, I did like the book and would read it again. I enjoyed this book from Ginger Scott and will be reading more of her books.

I received this ARC via NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.

The gist: Charlie (Charlotte) has been dating Trevor for about a year. She goes to tutoring and has an instant connection with her tutor, Cody. When her roommate decides to move in with her boyfriend suddenly, Charlie needs to find a new residence ASAP. She moves in with Trevor and immediately realizes Cody is Trevor's stepbrother and there is A TON of animosity between the two guys. Then Trevor gets a job in DC and moves, but Charlie stays at his parents' house. Cody and Charlie are two magnets drawn together and Charlie is OBVIOUSLY seriously conflicted about her feelings for the two guys. A whole shit storm of turmoil and drama happens before Charlie gets her happily ever after.

Okay, so my immediate reaction after finishing this book is WOW! A LOT of shit happens, so the book is DEFINITELY not boring. It MIGHT be a bit TOO full of drama, but it'd be borderline in that score... I REALLY want to give this book 5 stars, but I have to settle for 4.5 ONLY BECAUSE I didn't care much for Charlie.

Let me explain... This girl has zero identity. (That's actually an issue in the book that she is aware of...) She really has no idea who she is. I don't mean who she is in a genealogical sense, but who she is in a 'comfortable in your own skin' sense... Her mom was a drug addict who dropped her off on her father's doorstep when she was 7. Her dad was a cop and had no idea she existed but made the best of the situation. He was a good dad, if a bit distant because he was uncomfortable being a father of a little girl. (And you learn all this in the prologue, so I'm not giving away any spoilers here...) He does suddenly when she's 18 and she's essentially alone in the world. She's VERY introverted and quiet, but she doesn't really know what any of her 'interests' are and she doesn't even have a clothing style... So she goes to college and meets Trevor and pretty much just becomes the girl he wants her to be. (Not necessarily in a bad way...) Then she meets Cody and realizes she's not REALLY the girl who is with Trevor. (That's probably confusing, right??? You'll have to read the book for yourself to realize what I mean...) I also didn't like Charlie because she was a selfish, somewhat whiny, immature bitch. At times, anyway. She's in love with Trevor and they're happy and all that. She's affectionate with Trevor in front of Cody, but the second Cody flirts with another girl, she gets all sulky and throws tantrums. It was REALLY ridiculous. What's good for the goose is NOT good for the gander in Charlie's world, evidently...

Trevor is the textbook, 'perfect' guy. Like the fairy tale guy. He REALLY doesn't have any bad qualities... Cody is the textbook, troubled guy. He's physically and emotionally scarred from his past. You REALLY can't help but TOTALLY fall in love with him. I actually REALLY liked BOTH guys. I was obviously pulling for one more than the other (and I'm not going to reveal which one that is because I don't want to spoil anything...), but I felt deep sympathy for the other guy also. When she finally makes her decision and chooses one, I want them to have a clear road ahead and I'm literally upset by the troubles that plague them.

Trevor's dad makes the PERFECT non-homicidal villain! He's a truly disgusting human being!!! (And, yes, he's very much real in my eyes, as most book characters are for me...) I was seriously hoping he'd suddenly die in a car or plane crash.

I actually enjoyed the story quite a bit, despite my feelings about Charlie. I'll definitely look for more from this author!

Stories about cheating have to tread a very fine line. It's always easier when a girl is obviously with the *wrong guy* and he's a douche. Or abusive. But when he's a decent guy who obviously loves her a lot, then bringing Mr. Love-At-First-Sight into the mix is tricky - though it is better story fodder. For me, Ginger Scott went on the wrong side of the line a few too many times in Blindness.

As a character, our heroine Charlie, never quite made it off the page for me. Or rather, we get what we need to really begin to understand her far too late. Maybe the story starts too late or the backstory is delivered in the wrong order, but some of the reveals that happen in the last act of the story needed to come way earlier. As it's written, Charlie comes off as capricious and kind of cruel.

The book blurb doesn't play up the love triangle aspect, so I went into this novel blind as to what it was really about. But that isn't necessarily a bad thing. I also appreciated the inherent tension of Charlie's situation - she had no family after the death of her father and she finds this great guy who ticks all the boxes in Trevor. Left without an apartment, she moves in with him - only downside is he lives at home. So what's a girl to do when one day she meets a guy like Cody, who has her picking her jaw up off the floor? Maybe that's the time to reevaluate your current relationship. Of course, if she did that, I guess there would be no story.

Instead she strings Cody along, vacillating between him and Trevor, basically giving us all whiplash in the process. Even throughout that I was still basically on her side. She's 21, she doesn't have a lot of experience, she's a little sheltered - totally been there. However, there's a point (around 70% in) when she crosses the line for me and I just didn't like her any more. I didn't want Cody to like her any more; I didn't think she deserved him.

Also getting short shrift here is Trevor. I think he deserved an epilogue or something. We get this odd scene early on where you think Scott may be setting him up to *not* be such a nice guy after all, but then nothing really comes of it. He handles everything remarkably well and I was really left feeling sorry for him. I mean, he was really wrong for Charlie and somehow couldn't see it, but she'd been a chameleon for him so how could he really know her?

As for Cody, I found him pretty uneven. I really wanted to like him - a superstar motorcross X-games guy mechanic math tutor studying to be an engineer? These kinds of contradictory character traits make the best book boyfriends, but he was a bit flat for me as well.

Still, the story and characters have stayed with me for days after reading it, refusing to dissolve into the mists of books past, so there's definitely something intriguing here.

Four, Can I Get A Cody Carmichael Please, Stars?

Oh where do I to start. Well, I'll start with Charlotte (Charlie). I could relate to her in some ways so it was easy to understand her decision making even if it drove me nuts from time to time. At the very young age of 7 she was abandoned by her mother, who was an addict, and from that point on was raised by her clueless father, who didn't even know about Charlie, until tragedy struck. It wasn't until she was in high school, though, that a true relationship developed between her and her father, Mac. They became very close and he was basically her only friend.

Unfortunately there is no manual written about life and how it's supposed to go. Things change, people change and sadly we all experience tragedies. Well Charlie has experienced a few but manages to play her life safe going to college to become an architect and becoming involved with a wonderful man, Trevor, whom she plans to marry and live with the rest of her life. Everything is all laid out nice and safe until......

Now we are introduced to Cody Carmichael. He has the looks of a bad boy, with tattoos & piercings on the outside, but what we learn and see on the inside will make your heart soar. Cody has experienced tragedy of his own so it isn't uncommon for he and Charlie to have some things in common. He was such a sweetheart and I instantly fell in love with him.

You will also get to meet Cody's friends, Jessie and Gabe. I loved Jessie she was an awesome character and became Charlie's friend as well. Lots of things take place in this great story and that is why I read it in 3 days (that's fast for me).

This book had some very emotional moments and I got teary eyed a few times. Great characters and a great story overall. Kept my interest and the ending was good. I can tell you that this was a love triangle but before you judge, I think perhaps you may understand why Charlie is the way she is and why she made the choices she did. Lot's of people fear the unknown and prefer to keep their lives comfortable and without any major changes. This poor girl truly didn't even know who she was. There were times Trevor didn't really know who she was either. To see all the transformations through the story wasn't easy but so worth it.

So what happens to all of these great characters and how will it all come to an end? What road will each of them take and with whom? Experience their tragedies along the way as well as Charlie and how she truly finds herself. Take a chance and read this great story. You won't be sorry :)

This was my first read by Ginger Scott and I really enjoyed it! Great story, emotional, raw and great characters!

(I really can't decide)

Sometimes I want to read something I know is going to piss me off. Something that breaks all my no-no rules. Like ALL of them. I'm not saying I'm a masochist, but occasionally my dark little soul wants the pain ;) Sometimes feeling emotional pain caused by the read is so much better than a read full of emotional pain.

That is my crack, Ladies.

Once a month I want a read that will make me HATE a fictional character :) I have my limits...but triangle shit is my train wreck of choice. Not OW, nope, just fucked up triangles. And I'm picky in my kink. I'm broken, I know ;)

I think SC Stephens (not a fangirl) did it better, layering in even more no-no's for me. I hated that h just as much as this one...and I got a thrill every time karma bit the h in the ass.

Crack, ladies, crack.

But this one was good enough (train-wrecky enough) I couldn't put it down because my blood was pumping as I yelled at my kindle...and the outrage...addictive...lol.

This is not safety gang safe. It is, in fact, safety gang suicide. I'm generally in your posse, Ladies, but I need what I need ;)

I lost interest after the OM discovered the truth about the H/h, but forged through to the end. Although the end was quick I was satisfied. I really want Trevor to have a novel and I'm going to investigate that as soon as I post this.

“She’s a stay-at-home mom, not that she really is caring for anyone any longer. Trevor’s been grown for years. So, I guess, it’s more accurate to say Shelly doesn’t work.”

And bitches be jelly over that ;)
Suck it.

“the “Yes” fleas my lips”

Best. Line. Ever.

God damn...!! In love with the book.. Cody and Charlie were just... perfect..!! n Trevor was wonderful.. Though, I can't help but feel bad for him... thus, the four stars.. I don't know but I feel like he needed some closure but he already kind of got one.. so I guess I was just wishing something happy for him too...

Anyways, coming back to the main characters.. they are good together like seriously.. Cody is that guy who lives on the edge but is still as close to soft guy dreaming of keeping his dads memories alive.. and his tats n muscles jus make him all the more appealing.. Charlie well she is a complete daddy's girl who's jus lost her way around finding herself... and Cody is jus the guy to help her find it.. I loved the story nd how every turns made it feel all the more real... Beautifully written...

I received an ARC in exchange for an honest review.

I am on a complete book high after I finished this book. The word beautiful doesn't even begin to describe it. I loved every single moment.

Blindness is easily one of my favorites of 2014.

Charlie Hudson was born to a junkie mother, and was dropped of at her father's (Mac) house at the age of 7. Her mother never looked back. Charlie's dad became her best friend as she got older, when suddenly she lost in. In losing him, she also lost herself. Cody Carmichael is a former motocross star. He now works in an autoshop while also attending school. Charlie and Cody collide in the most unexpected way possible. It was fate.

"I know it hurts. But there is more Mac in you than just some old piece of furniture-and you should show these parts more often. They're beautiful."

Without giving it away, Cody and Charlie have been living parallel lives. When their lives cross paths, neither is the same. When Charlie meets Cody she is drawn to him immediately. Not just his looks. His demeanor, everything. But he can't have her. She isn't his to have.

"I want to look at you, and I want you to see...what you do to me"

"Your touch Charlie, is it for me. You're the end of me-and the beginning"

Charlie thought she knew what love felt like, until Cody showed up in her life. Blindness is one of the most beautifully written stories that I have ever read. THE FEELS. They're real. Raw. Genuine. All Consuming. Their first kiss is THE first kiss of ALL kisses. It was so heartfelt. The chemistry between Charlie and Cody is undeniable. Inevitable. It's natural.

"That's how I love you, you know? With everything"

The moment you realize just how real they are? When Charlie tells Cody something that is so close to her heart. Charlie's dad, Mac is a special person to her, and she misses him everyday. In the prologue it is all explained. You feel her pain. The numbness. There's parts of her that she doesn't share with anyone, and that is Mac. She shares it with Cody. Stars. That is all I can say. This part made me ugly cry. This allowed them to connect on such a deep level. She bared her soul to him and he accepted it by giving her the most beautiful moment. Words cannot describe how much this touched me. And it will touch you. She never allowed herself to live. With Cody she is not only living, but she is breathing.

"Go ahead," Cody says. "Talk to him"

"I know it sounds stupid, but it's like we're connected-like we share a heart and healing yours somehow makes mine beat stronger"

Cody sees Charlie for who she truly is. He looks into her rather than at her, he loves her whole heart and soul. And it kills him that she isn't his. And it hurts her just the same. Giving it away would be a disservice to anyone who hasn't read the book, but life got in the way. It was always supposed to be Charlie and Cody. Always.

"And I know I've never been in love before, because I would have remembered what this felt like."

Blindness captured my heart and has not let it go. I have read work by this author and have loved it. But this book? This story? Flawless. My heart was beating through the entire story. For Cody. For Charlie. For true love. Love that knows no boundaries. Love that goes where it's unexpected. I was absolutely blown away by how much I connected to this story. If you want to experience once of the most heart felt stories ever, read Blindness.

First, this was a huge surprise for me since I glanced over the synopsis before I started this book and had no idea what the theme was to this story. The theme (love triangle) is usually not my favorite, but this book was done so well that the love triangle did not bother me at all. The author did an amazing job writing the story that understood what was going on in the characters’ lives.
Charlie thought she had everything she ever wanted until she went to a study group and met Cody Carmichael. Cody was everything I love in my hero. Pained but yet loving.

I loved the characters, I loved the story. The author did a great job with character development. The characters evolved. I did not want to stop reading. I really was not sure where the author was going to go with the story until the end.

I love when I read a book by an author I have never heard of before and love. I heard that Ginger Scott has written two other books which I want to read now.

A copy was provided by the author via NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.

SPOILERS:

2 brothers and a girl.....

The hero:
A sweet vulnerable good bad boy who's completely captivated by the heroine.
He's quite bewildered by it all - the poor darling. My heart hurts for him.

The other man:
A really nice guy who's totally blindsided by her betrayal.

The heroine:
Drawn to both - like Kiera-of-Thoughtless style.
Thing is, she doesn't even TRY to captivate them. She's just your ordinary girl next door. At least she thinks she is. The hero and om beg to differ.
She doesn't deliberately draw attention - they just naturally seem to care about her.
I'd normally be very VERY put off by this type of h, but she's written in such a way that I understand how she ends up in this situation.

From the first page til the very end author Ginger Scott had me captivated with the story of "Blindness".
Charlie and Cody, two damaged people, lived parallel empty lives until they collide. Their journey was so well written that I laughed and cried through every twist, turn and obstacle thrown at them.
My first book by this author, "Blindness" was an unputdownable pleasure to read!

I really really enjoyed this book but if cheating is a trigger for you, you might want to overlook this one. There is 2 incidents of physical cheating but lots of emotional cheating. Charlie in my opinion was a sweet heroine but she just didn’t know who she was yet due to her past and when she meets Trevor she thinks she found her Prince Charming and molds into what she thinks would be good for him, not really thinking of what’s good for her or who she really is. That all changed the second she meets Cody, her tutor, not knowing he is actually her bfs step brother. Cody and Charlie had a instant connection which she tried but failed over and over to stay away from. Cody let her be her, he thought everything about her was perfect, even what she views as flaws he thought was perfection. I did feel very bad at was transpired with Trevor and that’s the only real problem I had, he deserved complete honestly the moment she realized Cody was not a stranger and a moment in passing wasn’t going away. She held him tighter cause of her guilt when he didn’t deserve it, he was a nice guy. I also didn’t like how jealous Charlie was given the fact that she wasn’t available.

This is one of those reads that will have you sucked in by the end of the first chapter. Even the cover of the book sucks you in right away. I will say those that say “don’t judge a book by its cover”…go ahead and judge away because it is as good as the cover!

Charlotte or Charlie, as her dad called her, is one of those characters that are hard to explain. She is so much all wrapped up into one person. She is flawed, confusing, loving, broken, and a hint of a codependent but by contrast, she is also independent at the same time. From the start you know that Charlie’s life hasn’t always been rainbows and sunshine. She has a mom that is mentally unstable and a drug addict. She drops her off on her dad’s doorstep one day and never looks back. Ok, that seems fine, except for the fact that her dad never even knew she existed. Eventually things between Charlie and her dad are good, but then she loses her dad, when he dies unexpectedly.

Charlie is in college and moving in with her boyfriend, Trevor. Trevor seems to be the all American boy. He has to leave to move to Washington for an internship and leaves Charlie at home with his parents. Well, after you read what Trevor’s parents are all about…you’ll be shaking your head! But Charlie finds herself wondering if this is the life she really wants after meeting her new tutor.

“Trevor is what every girl wants…handsome, dark hair, blue eyes, broad shoulders-he is the alter ego of some brooding movie star and a Hilfiger ad rolled into one.”

Cody is so broken. I wanted to take him home and heal that boy’s heart. After having an accident that sometimes requires him to use a wheelchair, his world falls apart. He loses his dad when he dies and his girlfriend couldn’t cope with his physical challenge. All he loved to do was motocross and one wrong move landed him with lots of pain. Cody ends up tutoring Charlie in math, and from their first encounter you can tell the chemistry will be painfully hot between these two.

“His eyes are clear, a grayish blue, and perfect. The crinkles at the corners must mean he’s smiling, but I can't seem to leave his eyes to check the curve of his lips. In that millisecond, I soak him in, and I feel like I am home.

“Yea, not gonna lie-I was totally checking you out just now. You…well,” he’s stammering, “you just…you look hot, okay? There, I said it. You look hot.”

Charlie is soon to find out that her boyfriend and the one man she “feels home” with are step brothers. So you can imagine her surprise when he walks in for dinner, right? Cody is the outcast of the family. Seems like his real mom is too busy in her own world and his step father and step brother can’t stand him. To make matters worse, Cody’s step dad has the loan against the one thing Cody has left of his father….his garage.

He and Charlie become close friends and Charlie is fighting her connection with Cody, but she can only fight so long. And Cody can only give so much before he starts to fall apart.

“I let him, and watch as his fingers slowly lock into place with mine, the twists of ink and words along them like black keys on a piano against by pale skin. I steal a glance at him to see his eyes intent on our tangled hands, his gaze soft, but guarded. He’s being so careful. My mind is betraying everything I’m fighting to hold onto with visions of his mouth on mine, my lips tingling at the thought of kissing him, tasting him.”

“I feel his body behind me, and see his hand flat against the door. His breath against my neck raises every hair on my body, I’m looking intently at his fingers splayed out on the wood paneling of the door in front of me, my hands still gripping the door handle. Beyond this door, my life continues on one path- a path I know. A path I love. But I’m stalled, considering what happens if I stay in the room. I’m paralyzed. Fear. Indecision.”

I constantly felt that Charlie was a massive yo-yo…will she stay or will she go? That’s okay though! I get why Charlie felt she needed to stay with Trevor. Blackmail is not something that people handle well. Also, there was a lot of misunderstanding between these two. I found myself telling them to just freaking say what you need to say, but we all know that’s not how it works.

“Just because you said you can’t, doesn’t mean I can’t. I don’t just turn this shit off like that,” he says, pounding his flat hand to his chest- to his heart. Oh my God! I don’t want to…I’m not ready to. That okay?”

You will become totally invested in their story! Some may root for Trevor and some may root for Cody, but it will definitely be worth the read. You don’t find yourself asking too many questions in the end. The secondary characters add so much to this; especially Gabe and Jessie. Charlie found an instant bond with Jessie; something she has never had with another girl. Then you will find yourself wanting to throat punch the parents. Seriously, who would do this to their children? Not only was this a powerful love story, it was amazeballs in the power of friendship and family. I didn’t want their journey to end. I feel like I need to continue reading although I know how the ending is. So, Ginger Scott, thank you for keeping your characters real and can’t wait to read more from you!!!

“I need you Charlie. But if I do this, there’s no going back for me,” he says, his head pressed against mine, and his eyes closed tightly.”

This was an absolutely amazing book. This story made me mad, sad and even frustrating. I cried several times throughout this book but I loved how it ended.

Pov: female

Main characters: Cody & Charlie

Minor characters: Trevor (her boyfriend/his brother), Gabe (his best friend), Jessie (his best friend), Jim (Trevor's dad), Kyla (his ex)

My thoughts:

I liked this story, but there was room for improvement. It started out slow, but about halfway through the story picks up and gets really good. It reminded me a lot of Thoughtless, but less intense. I did like that Trevor was a good guy though.

I would have liked to have more of Cody's point of view. I liked the relationship between Cody and his friends.

It was a pretty good story overall.

Synopsis:

Charlie was raised by a drug addicted mom. When she was 7 her mom dropped her off at her dads house and disappeared. Her dad didn't know she existed until her mom abandoned her.

When she was 18 her dad was killed trying to stop a robbery while off duty. She was with him and saw the whole thing. She was sent to live with her alcoholic aunt until she left for college. She's studying to be an architect.

When she was 20 she was invited to a mixer by the dean and met Trevor. They hit it off and started dating.

A year later she moves in with him and his family because her roommate moves in with her boyfriend.

She goes to a tutoring session and meets Cody the tutor. They hit it off and she likes him.

That night Trevor's family has a formal dinner to welcome her and Cody shows up. She finds out Cody is Trevor's brother. Trevor's mom ignores him and his dad is rude to him. She doesn't understand what's going on because she didn't know Trevor had a brother.

After dinner Trevor explains they're step brothers but they don't get along. Cody lives in the room above the garage because he's broke. Cody and Trevor's dad don't get along.

Trevor gets offered an apprenticeship and has to move. She's happy for him because it's a good opportunity, but she feels weird living alone with his parents.

Trevor moves and she wants her drafting table, which belonged to her dad. She knows it won't fit into her car, but sees a truck in the driveway and knows it's Cody's.

He sees her struggling and offers to help her. They get her desk and talk the whole time. She finds out he was in the x games, but was in an accident that tore up his leg.

Trevor comes home and they go out for dinner. When they get back Cody is throwing a party. Trevor is furious and storms off.

She bumps into Cody and he's drunk. He implies she's with Trevor because he's rich. He gives her $20 and asks if that's enough for a kiss. She slaps him and leaves.

Early in the morning she decides to leave him a note with his $20. She goes to the garage and bumps into Gabe.

Gabe is Cody's best friend. They start talking and she finds out Cody inherited his fathers garage when his dad died. That his dad had a lot of debt and Cody is determined to keep the garage. She understands.

Gabe tells her Trevor's dad Jim owns the loan. That Jim only gave him a few months to finish it off or else he's going to sell it.

Gabe tells her about Cody's accident. His dad died unexpectedly and he was a wreck. He tried a dangerous trick and missed the landing. He was in a wheelchair and his girlfriend dumped him.

Gabe asks her to give Cody a chance. She decides to leave the $20 with a note for coffee, as a peace offering.

Cody comes in the morning and apologizes. They share coffee and she knows she's attracted to him.

She's sad and lays in the yard to talk with her dad. Suddenly it starts raining and Cody is there. He tells her to run inside and grabs all her stuff before it gets wet.

In the house his mom comes in and is clearly drunk. He tells her Jim is cheating on her and she slaps him. He leaves and Charlie follows.

She asks what's going on and he explains how Jim is having an affair and his mom knows. That she's always been more concerned with social status so she lets it slide.

He asks what she was doing in the yard and she explains how her and her dad used to stargaze. That she does it to feel close to him. He grabs a paper and punches holes in it and tapes it to his lamp, making shadows on the ceiling that look like stars.

He tells her to talk with her dad and she lays next to him on his bed. She tells her dad how much she misses him. That she doesn't like living with Trevor's family. That she made a new friend she thinks he'd like.

She's embarrassed by her confession and tries to leave. Cody asks her to stay. She says ok. He hugs her close and she cries. They end up falling asleep together in his bed.

She sneaks out in the morning because she's embarrassed.

In calculus she still needs tutoring help. She texts Cody and promises him tickets to a concert if he's still willing to help her. He waits for her after class and offers to help her that day.

They go to the garage and Gabe is there. Gabe invites them out to eat. On the walk out she sees his motorbike. Gabe explains Cody's been riding again. Cody is embarrassed and Gabe tells her it's because he wants to impress her.

At the diner Gabe invites her out with them to go to a haunted house. She says yes. They meet the next day and go to the haunted house. She meets Jessie, Gabe's girlfriend.

They go through a corn maze and he suggests they play a game to get to know each other. He tells her he was 16 the first time he had sex, so she tells him she was 20. She tells him she's only been in love once and she doesn't know if it's real, he tells her the same. He confesses the night she slept in his arms was the happiest night since his dad died, she confesses it was the scariest. She confesses she doesn't take risks, he tells her he takes too many. He tells her he wants to kiss her, she says the same. He kisses her and it's life changing.

It's awkward between them the rest of the night.

She leaves to visit Trevor. She feels awful that she was so conflicted. Cody texts her an apology for being distant. She decides they need to stop and tells him she's sorry too but she can't do it anymore.

Trevor proposes. It feels wrong but she says yes. He tells her his dad helped pick the ring. She gets mad and tells him she doesn't like his dad. She tells him she doesn't like how he treats Cody and that he's having an affair. That he owns the loan on Cody's garage and he's trying to kick Cody out.

Trevor leaves angry. He doesn't come back and she decides to go home early. Cody is there to pick her up at the airport. He tells her Trevor called him.

The ride home is tense. She asks why did he agree to get her if he hates her. He tells her just because she said she can't doesn't mean he can't. He tells her he's not ready to let her go.

He takes her to the garage. She sketches a design for the garage. Cody sees it and loves it.

Trevor shows up and begs her to forgive him. He tells her he followed his dad once and found out he has a whole other family. She feels awful for Trevor and Cody. Trevor asks about her ring and she puts it on. He tells her he was worried she wouldn't marry him.

Cody overhears. Trevor apologizes for how he treated him. He sees her drawings and comes up with an idea to save the garage. He suggest they come up with a business plan to show how much money the garage could make, which would force Jim to extend the loan timeline so he could partner with Cody. Then Cody could pay it off and not partner up.

The guys spend the whole night working on a business plan. Trevor thanks her for giving him his brother.

She texts Cody an apology and tells him she still needs him in her life.

The next day he's waiting to take her to school. He waits for her after class to take her home. She mentions needing his help and he brings up the concert. She's hesitant and tells him she wasn't sure he'd still want to go with her. He tells her he'd go anywhere with her.

On the ride to the concert they talk and he asks how she met Trevor. She tells him about the Dean's party and he shuts down. She asks what's wrong when he starts laughing. He tells her he was supposed to be at that party but he didn't go because he didn't want to be around Trevor.

They go to the concert and he sees Kyla. They exchange numbers. Charlie's jealous and hurt.

She avoids him the next few days. She wonders if he's with Kyla and one night can't take it. She goes to the garage and Gabe and Jessie are there but Cody isn't. Jessie tells her he's been seeing Kyla again and Charlie starts to cry.

Jessie goes home with her to keep her company. When they get there Cody gets there too. He tries to go to Charlie but Jessie doesn't let him.

She watches them argue and Jessie slaps him. Jessie tells her he slept with Kyla and is bringing her to thanksgiving dinner. Charlie realizes she's in love with him by how much that hurts her.

The next morning Cody shows up. She's angry and short with him. He comments on it and she tells him she loves waking up early and hearing a jerk talk about the girl he hooked up with.

He gets mad and asks her if Trevor ever takes care of her. She gets defensive and reminds him Trevor is helping him. He tells her he misjudged them. That he thought Trevor was a jerk but he's really a good guy. And that he thought she was a nice girl but she's really a bitch. She slaps him and leaves.

She picks Trevor up from the airport and he wants to see Cody. They go to the garage and she hides in the office with Jessie. Before they go home Cody catches her alone and apologizes. He tells her he was just mad about her engagement and he didn't mean it. She accepts his apology.

When they get home Trevor shows her the new desk he bought her. She asks about the old one, her dads, and he tells her the movers took it. She's devastated but hides it because she knows he didn't know how important it was to her. She texts Cody because she knows he'll understand.

The next night everyone comes for thanksgiving dinner. She meets Kyla and feels inferior.

Cody gives his pitch to Jim. After dinner Trevor goes out for drinks with his friend to celebrate. He invites Charlie but she declines and suggests the next night. She goes out to the backyard to talk to her dad.

Cody finds her and tells her he's sorry about her desk. She mentions going out for drinks and Kyla overhears and invites herself along.

The next day they all go out. At the bar she sees Cody and Kyla dancing. She's jealous and dances with Jessie. Jessie pushes her into Cody. They dance for a little while and she feels like she has his attention when Kyla comes back and kisses him. He gets carried away and Charlie feels sick.

She hides in the bathroom and feels stupid. She decides to go home and texts Trevor saying she's getting a cab. She runs out and Jessie catches her. She tells Jessie she can't compete with Kyla. Jessie tells her she's telling Cody.

She leaves and starts walking back to the restaurant to get a cab. Cody finds her and tells her to get in his truck. She tells him she's fine and keeps walking. He stops his truck and goes after her.

He grabs her and she resists. He asks what's wrong and she snaps. She asks why he's with Kyla. He won't answer but she keeps asking. He snaps and tells her it's because he can't have her. That seeing her with Trevor kills him and he needed a distraction.

He tells her he loves her but he can't have her.

She tells him she loves him too. She asks him to kiss her because she chooses him. He kisses her and tells her if they do it he can't go back. She tells him she chooses him. They kiss and get carried away.

He takes her home and they have sex. It's life changing. When they're done he asks her to stay with him. He tells her he knows she has things to work through but he wants her with him. She says yes.

In the morning Jessie comes over. She explains she covered for Charlie. Charlie gets dressed to leave and can tell Cody is unsure. She tells him she's happy with him and will tell Trevor.

She goes home and Jim stops her. He tells her he knows what's going on and that if she ruins Trevor's plans he'll ruin Cody's deal. She knows Cody's garage is more important than she is and that she can't mess things up for him. She knows she can't leave Trevor.

Trevor takes her to lunch and stops by the shop to see Cody. She can tell Cody is confused to see Trevor. She hides in the bathroom and Cody finds her. He kisses her and she stops him. She tells him she can't leave Trevor. He gets mad and asks why she's doing this to him. That he told her he couldn't go back once they started something.

Trevor invites everyone to a football game and they all say yes. When they meet up to go to the game she can tell Cody is drunk. At the game he's angry and keeps staring at her. She feels awful. He leaves early with Gabe and Jessie confronts her. Jessie tells her he's gone to the track to ride his bike and Gabe is worried he'll do a crazy jump and hurt himself.

She tells Trevor they need to go and they all leave. They get to the track and she runs to find him. She sees him and slips on one of the jumps. Cody grabs her and pulls her back up. Everyone gathers around her on the bench and Cody brings bandaids and neosporin to clean up her cuts.

Trevor snaps and demands to know what's going on. Cody tells him he loves her. Trevor gets mad and tells Cody he doesn't even know her. Cody tells him he's the one who doesn't know her. That he's trying to change her into someone she isn't. Trevor gets mad and punches him. They fight and she yells at them to stop.

She gets a phone call from her aunt saying they caught her dads killer. She's shocked and collapses. She yells for the boys to stop and they do when they see her on the ground. Her aunt tells her to get home immediately to ID the guy.

Everyone asks what happened and she tells Cody about the murder. Trevor starts calling airlines immediately to find her a flight home.

She and Trevor fly and Cody drives. They all go to the station and she ID's the guy. She has to be carried out of the room.

Trevor decides to stay at a hotel so Cody stays the night with her. She tells him all about her dad. In the morning she feels better. She takes a shower and he comes in and joins her. Things get heated and she knows it's leading to sex. She hesitates and he asks what's wrong. She tells him she loves him and is glad he's there, but she feels inexperienced and unworthy of what he's given up for her. She worries he'll change his mind about her. He tells her he loves her and wants to be with her. They have sex in the shower.

They go to the cemetery for her to say goodbye to her dad and Trevor shows up. Cody gets a call from Gabe and starts yelling. She gets out to see what's wrong and he tells her Jim called the cops on him, saying he was running a chop shop out of the garage.

Trevor asks what's going on and Cody attacks him. He tells Trevor Jim took everything and is selling the shop. He thinks Trevor was involved. Trevor says he wasn't and she pulls Cody off him. He turns on her and tells her Jim said she knew about it. She's scared and shocked and he thinks she's admitting she did know. He throws her things out of his truck and leaves.

She yells at Trevor and asks if he knew. He tells her he didn't and makes some calls. He finds out Jim wanted the land to build condos on it, and he already had a buyer. That they got together to plant evidence and get Cody out of the way.

They fly back home and he packs up his stuff. She does too and he tells her she doesn't have to leave. She tells him she can't stay there. He asks what happened and she tells him she changed herself to be the person he wanted because he was perfect. That she was lost after her dad died and thought she should be with someone like him.

She goes to the last tutoring session and Cody doesn't go. She texts him but he doesn't answer. She goes to the shop and sees it's all boarded up and the sign out front is gone. She hears Gabe and Cody inside.

She begs him to listen and tells him Trevor found out Jim set him up. He tells her he knew. That Trevor called and told him. She tells him how Jim found her after their first time together and told her he'd ruin Cody if she chose him, but that she chose him anyway. Cody tells her she never let him choose. That she made his choice for him and it cost him everything. She realizes he wouldn't have picked her over the garage. She breaks down and Gabe consoles her. He calls Jessie and tells her Charlie needs somewhere to stay for a while.

She ends up staying for a week then finds an apartment. One day at lunch Jessie tells her that Cody is a mess. She asks where he's been and Jessie tells her nearby with a friend. That he knows she's been staying with them and won't come by. That he's afraid to see her. She tells Jessie he's the one who didn't want her. That he told her he'd rather have the garage than her.

Jessie takes her to the garage and shows her it's been demolished. Charlie is devastated. She finds a dumpster and sees a window frame still intact. She digs through and finds the neon sign from the front and takes them.

She spends her first night in her new apartment and can't sleep. She feels inspired by the shop and designs an entire city block. She goes to her internship early the next day and shows her boss. He loves them and by the end of the day her company is looking for a buyer to get it all built.

A month later the project is sold and she gets hired by her firm to lead the project. Jessie begs her to tell Cody but she can't. She worries he would just come back to her out of obligation.

Gabe tells her Cody isn't rehabbing anymore and his leg is getting worse. And that he's thinking of selling his bike.

Gabe and Jessie invite her to their New Years party but she says no because Cody might be there.

On New Years she goes into work, even though the office is closed. She falls asleep and wakes up to see Cody called her and she missed it. She thinks he knows about the design and is mad. She gets angry that he chose the garage and decides to confront him at the party.

She goes but he's not there. Cody shows up and doesn't talk to her. They can't keep their eyes off each other and they both look terrible. The countdown starts and everyone blocks them from each other. When it's over he's gone.

She looks for him and knows he's gone so she goes home. A few hours later he shows up at her door. He tells her he got her a Christmas gift but he needs her help to bring it in. She follows him outside and sees her dad's desk.

She cries and he explains he had been looking for it since Trevor donated it. That he found it the day after their big fight. They carry it in and she can tell he doesn't want to leave her, but he tells her goodbye. He leaves and she chases after him.

She decides she'll let him blame her forever if he'll just stay with her. She catches him and sees he's crying. He tells her he's sorry for everything. He kisses her and carries her inside. He tells her he chooses her. That he was wrong to let her walk away. That she means everything to him. That he can't live without her. She asks him to stay with her. That she wants him with her always.

The next morning she takes him to her job. She shows him the presentation and he's moved. She gives him a file and explains Trevor helped her. That Trevor set up Cody's corporation so all he has to do is file the paperwork to apply for the lease.

A year later they're living together and he's gotten back into motorbikes. He has his first competition and begs her to come, even though it scares her. He performs his tricks and does the trick that he missed after his dad died. He land it but realizes the fear she must be feeling isn't worth it. He finds her crying and she tells him she's just proud of him.

Blindness is a New Adult book that packs a heavy emotional punch. It doesn’t humour you with perfect characters instead it makes you fall for characters that are realistically flawed.

First Line of Blindness:

“People are thoughtless.”

My Thoughts on Blindness:

What I loved about this book was that I kept changing my mind about how I felt about the characters. I would see a snippet of their character and make a rash judgement. However later, I would see another side to their personality and I was flipping around like a pancake as to whether I loved or hated them!

I won’t lie! The characters make some dubious decisions in life. But then when you see and understand them better; you start to comprehend their choices. You still think they are crazy but you get it. For example Charlie – the main character – is dating Trevor who is totally unsuited to her. But gradually, it all clicks into place just why she sought out someone as safe and dependable as Trevor.

There is a love triangle! And haters gonna hate, except this time I didn’t!! I often hate love triangles but here because there was such intense character development, I fell into the murky depths. And I choose my side early and never had a second’s doubt but that it was the right one. It took Charlie a lot longer to catch up!

I loved the characters and how I felt all the emotional pain and intensity that they faced. The three main characters have a lot of growing to do and none of them have an easy time of it. And all of them are capable of acting like jerks at time which was just so believable but at the same time, I never lost sight of the good in them. Trevor and Cody started out the book feeling like opposites to me but the more I got to know them, the more I saw they had in common.

And something else I really enjoyed was the dialogue. It flowed seamlessly and made this book a very easy one to read. I also appreciated that this book is the older side of New Adult and Charlie was facing big decisions about her future beyond college. It adds another dimension when characters face these life altering choices that we all go through.

Overall, I had fun reading this one. Cody and Charlie are enjoyable NA characters with a great chemistry and Trevor is a lot better than I first thought. The conflict between the three made for an entertaining and stimulating read.

Who should read Blindness?

I’d recommend this one to fans of NA books. If you like character driven books, emotional growth and love triangles; then I’d suggest you give this one a chance to impress you.

I really fell in love with this story, it mad me happy, sad, mad, and it mad me cry.

Charlie hasn't had it easy her mother was a druggy and her father didn't know she even existed, until the day she arrived on his door step. She is just a little girl and her father is a cop he doesn't know the first thing about raising a child. He tries in his own way, but it isn't very good. Then a situation provides itself and it changes their relationship. He finally figures out how to be a father and from there they grow close. Then fate decides to derail everything and break Charlie's heart. He is gone.
Charlie has a hard time dealing with the loss of her only parent, but she knows it is all her now and she is off to college to become and architect. While there she meets and falls in love with Trevor who is studying law. Honestly I don't know what she saw in him, he is just really boring. But she is in l-o-v-e with him. I think he is more security than anything. The guy still lives with his uptight messed up parent. She losses her roommate and ends up having to move in with Trevor and the parents. She is falling behind in her math class and decides she needs a tutor. From the moment they meet you can feel the electrical current between these two. Cody is hot....he also has some issues do to his motocross days. And he and Trevor no each other really well. They are stepbrothers and totally different in every way. Cody too lives on the property which makes for an interesting story.
The thing I loved about this story was that it had so much heart. Charlie doesn't want to fall for Cody, but she knows he is her soul-mate. She fights and fights her feelings for him. Trevor is good to her and loves her but the connection is just not the same. These characters were so real and believable, I loved them. My heart broke for them and my eyes sobbed for them. Really a wonderful story. There was a lot of things going on in this story, Cody has some one trying to take is car maintenance garage. Cody's friends were a delightful addition to have a secondary characters, loyal through and through. Great story! Loved it!

Wow.. I am sorta speechless after reading this book. I was drawn in from the first chapter.

Charlotte or "Charlie" is on her own in college just trying to make a life for herself. Having been dropped off on her dads porch at age 7 by her druggy mom left her to grow up with a dad who she didn't really know. Not until a boy hurt her.. then her dad woke up and became a dad fully invested in every part of her life. 1 year, she had one year of her dads affection and then he was gone. Finding love wasn't going to be easy with her walls. She thought she had found it with Trevor Appleton.

Cody was a biker he was a major player in the x games for 3 years in a row until one stunt ended it all. Having lost his father and then his mother getting remarried and staying drunk all the time his life wasn't easy. He worked hard to keep his father's garage afloat but even then he was barely scraping by. He wasn't living.. until he met Charlie.

It was hard watching Charlie be torn between these two guys who actually are step brothers. The ups and downs it really gets to you in this book. I was gutted a few times. I was also PISSED at Cody and Charlie a few times!I even found myself crying during the rain scene. (you will know it when you read it!) You just never know where this story is going to take you as you read it. Is she going to stay with Trevor or is she going to stay with Cody?? When I started reading this book I did it on a day that I really had nothing to do and thank goodness because I could NOT put it down at all! I mean seriously Ginger Scott did an excellent job with these characters. They felt REAL and like they could be your best friends.

WOW best book by Ginger Scott It will be hard to get over it
Let me start by saying that I love Ginger Scott. It is so easy to love her style and her writing. This was SO different from her other books. I am still struggling and think this is her best work yet! Here goes my fave character Charlotte aka Charlie is just challenged. She starts out having to be a grown up and at 7 meeting her real Dad was not exactly a highlight. I liked her because she was different. She had a goodie goodie vibe about her. Meeting her Dad, living with him, but not really knowing each other was the most interesting dynamic I have read in a while. That is where the author is at her best. Like her other work the parent roles are not at all typical. She does a really interesting thing with Charlie and her Dad that I felt made me love her more.

Charlie needs to pass her ,math test in order to get her college degree. She seeks help and meets Cody. Cody is in a wheel chair, he has tattoos and he is bold. Exactly the opposite of Charlie's boyfriend Trevor. The thing about Trevor and Charlie that I enjoyed was their love for each other. Like her relationship with her Dad, I felt the author molded Charlie to be a surface lover. She loved Trevor for what and who he was, but not in love with him for what she needs.

It has a few minor little stories that play out at the same time. There is a wonderfully written Aunt Caroline who is a hoarder, suffers from mental illness, and loves Charlie unconditionally. It is people like her that make the author golden to me. I also liked Cody's mother. She was a complex character that deserved to be in this book.

It is a sure to please romance novel for all!
