Appearing in the short-lived but critically-acclaimed British anthology Crisis and illustrated by McCrea, it told the story of a young, apolitical Protestant man caught up by fate in the violence of the Irish 'Troubles'. It spawned a sequel, For a Few Troubles More, a broad Belfast-based comedy featuring two supporting characters from Troubled Souls, Dougie and Ivor, who would later get their own American comics series, Dicks, from Caliber in 1997, and several follow-ups from Avatar.
Another series for Crisis was True Faith, a religious satire inspired by his schooldays, this time drawn by Warren Pleece. Ennis shortly after began to write for Crisis' parent publication, 2000 AD. He quickly graduated on to the title's flagship character, Judge Dredd, taking over from original creator John Wagner for a period of several years.
Ennis' first work on an American comic came in 1991 when he took over DC Comics's horror title Hellblazer, which he wrote until 1994, and for which he currently holds the title for most issues written. Steve Dillon became the regular artist during the second half of Ennis's run.
Ennis' landmark work to date is the 66-issue epic Preacher, which he co-created with artist Steve Dillon. Running from 1995 to 2000, it was a tale of a preacher with supernatural powers, searching (literally) for God who has abandoned his creation.
While Preacher was running, Ennis began a series set in the DC universe called Hitman. Despite being lower profile than Preacher, Hitman ran for 60 issues (plus specials) from 1996 to 2001, veering wildly from violent action to humour to an examination of male friendship under fire.
Other comic projects Ennis wrote during this time period include Goddess, Bloody Mary, Unknown Soldier, and Pride & Joy, all for DC/Vertigo, as well as origin stories for The Darkness for Image Comics and Shadowman for Valiant Comics.
After the end of Hitman, Ennis was lured to Marvel Comics with the promise from Editor-in-Chief Joe Quesada that he could write The Punisher as long as he cared to. Instead of largely comical tone of these issues, he decided to make a much more serious series, re-launched under Marvel's MAX imprint.
In 2001 he briefly returned to UK comics to write the epic Helter Skelter for Judge Dredd.
Other comics Ennis has written include War Story (with various artists) for DC; The Pro for Image Comics; The Authority for Wildstorm; Just a Pilgrim for Black Bull Press, and 303, Chronicles of Wormwood (a six issue mini-series about the Antichrist), and a western comic book, Streets of Glory for Avatar Press.

You know those times when you just HAVE to have something that pushes all the limits, dives deep into satire, and still manages to tell a great, epic story?
Look here. The Boys does it all. We're deep into the backstories of the main characters, seeing a little bit of the innocents in the superhero category, and watching Hughie descend ever further into the cauldron of bloody caution.
But what about the satire, you ask? Oh, it's all here, mostly making fun of comics and individual heroes, twisting it all super dark, but Ennis is also stabbing the military-industrial complex, American politics, over-sexualization in the media, and the whole freaking category of humanity and all the s**t we put each other through.
This revels in the enormity of our basic incompetence.
I personally love every second of it.

Bueno, pues leído el segundo integral del The Boys de Garth Ennis. Algo decepcionado. Puede que la gamberrada de Ennis se me esté haciendo bola, y lo que en un principio impacta, a la larga cansa. O puede que Ennis en estos arcos argumentales esté alargando innecesariamente una idea estupenda, pero que no daba para tantos números. Por ejemplo, el primer arco, el Herogasm, pese a que de entrada es una idea muy bizarra y en parte original. Acaba cansando porque es lo mismo de siempre pero multiplicado. Superhéroes cabrones y hedonistas cumpliendo sus más perversos deseos pero esta vez en grupo. Y no hay mucho más. Quitando la pequeña trama de los Boys intentando reclutar a un agente del gobierno que protege al vicepresidente y lo que le pasa a Hughie.
La cosa cambia en el resto de tramas, y no sé si es que Ennis se olía que algunos, como yo, se cansarían de la misma sátira llevada al extremo todo el rato. Así que empieza a evolucionar el concepto. Nos presenta a un grupo de supers que no son malvados, los Superduper. Que son un poco especialitos, pero entrañables. Y, en cambio, nos muestra el lado oculto de los Boys, la vida de cada uno detrás de sus gabardinas oscuras y en el caso de Carnicero, su lado oscuro. Un hombre sediento de venganza, que solo ve en blanco y negro, y que es capaz de manipular a sus amigos para conseguir sus objetivos. Entre este campo de batalla, entre dos bandos, están Hughie y Annie, la pareja de inocentes metidas de lleno en el barro. Los cuales también van a tener que abrirse el uno al otro y ver si pueden convivir juntos cuando descubran su otra vida.
El tomo concluye con una pequeña historia donde Hughie vuelve a Escocia, a replantearse su vida y curar sus heridas emocionales. La historia menos "The Boys" del tomo, y la cual me ha parecido un respiro ante tanta matraca superheroica. Solo Hughie, su entorno y su infancia.
En fin, pese a todo, tengo curiosidad de terminar esta historia y ver como concluyen las tramas. Garth Ennis, cabronazo irlandés, como no escribas un final feliz para Hughie y Annie, pienso encontrarte y te partiré la crisma. He dicho.

Si el primer volúmen me pareció magistral, este como poco asqueroso. El autor trata fatal el tema de "Luz estelar", la cual vive un episodio de abuso.

Al comenzar el primer volumen la tostada me empezó a oler raro, pero quise convencerme de que era una forma del autor de decirte "en este cómic no vas a encontrar nada políticamente correcto, prepárate para todo tipo de burrada". Pero a medida que pasaba las páginas ganaba fuerza la idea de que detrás de esta historia hay un machismo (y no solo eso, pero es lo más evidente o, más bien, reiterado) brutalmente rancio disfrazado de una subversión oscura e incorrección política. "No es machista, es alternativo y busca escandalizar al lector". Ya, claro.
El segundo volumen me confirmó esto, ya no solo porque el papel de la mujer sigue reducido única y exclusivamente al de objeto sexual y víctima de abusos y violaciones (exceptuando, POR EL MOMENTO, a La Hembra. Que de todas formas, quitando el breve capítulo que se dedica a sus orígenes, tiene un papel intrascendente hasta ahora. Una mujer que no habla y de vez en cuándo aparece para arrancar alguna cara), sino también por la trama de Luz Estelar, que es víctima de una violación (sí, coaccionar a alguien para que te la chupe "voluntariamente" también es violación) y en todo momento se le deja en una posición bastante lamentable, como si en cierto modo fuese culpable. Es cierto que puede ser realista que ella se sienta hasta cierto punto culpable de lo sucedido y que pueda serlo también que Hughie la trate como si fuese basura por haber hecho lo que ha hecho para entrar en los 7, pues ya se deja entrever a lo largo de la historia que Hughie tiene enquistada cierta homofobia y machismo. Pero no sé, no me gusta como se lleva esta trama teniendo en cuenta que es la única trama algo elaborada que gire en torno a una mujer.
Si le doy 3 estrellas es porque la idea general de la obra me parece original y la historia me entretiene. Además, el dibujo me parece muy bueno.

I flew through this omnibus and am already a third of the way through the next so it's hard to pinpoint plot points exactly, but I will reiterate that Ennis knows how to tell a story, despite his penchant for pushing the limits of good taste. The narrative moves along at a lightning pace and is exciting and nerve-wracking. I think this is where we get some of the backstories of some of the team members and it's all real good stuff. I'm struggling a bit in digital omnibus 3 because it's a bit exposition-heavy, to contrast. And also maybe because I should be pacing myself a little more for the sake of my psyche, haha. But I WANT TO KNOW WHAT HAPPENS, DAMMIT.

El segundo tomo no baja el nivel con respecto al primero. Si acaso, tiene más violencia, más sexo, más de todas esas cosas aberrantes que hacen de The Boys una obra increíble

The next installment in the collection, this one was every bit as fun as the first omnibus. Again, lots of violence, depravity, profanity and breaking of taboos. Again, lots of cynicism. However, as we learn more about the different members of The Boys, their motivations and backstories, the depth of the story increases, but also the darkness. And the direction changes (or is revealed). Which makes the narrative work so much better, in hindsight.
However, I was pretty disappointed by a two things, here.
For one, Darick Robertson does not provide the illustrations in most of the issues from hereon out. And while most other illustrators provide fitting imagery and style, it is the issues illustrated by Carlos Ezquerra that I have huge problems with. The artwork does not fit the rest of the series, and it even seems shoddy and unrefined in many places. I was glad that he only illustrated a few issues, and the artists that followed provided much better work.
And secondly, the digital omnibus is omitting the three miniseries specials that are as much part of the series as they provide their own small side narratives ("Herogasm", "Highland Laddie" and, later, "Butcher, Baker, Candlestickmaker"). The problem, here, is that the characters in the main issues repeatedly refer to things that happened in one of these miniseries (Herogasm). And you simply cannot take something out of an omnibus that needs to be part of it (in the TPB series, those miniseries have their own TPB, inserted into the chronology where they ought to be). "Highland Laddie" is also missing, but this is not that bad. However, it is referred to in the final omnibus, aswell, and so should be part of this second omnibus, aswell.
Were it not for the change of illustrator and the omission of these miniseries, I would have given it 4 stars. I would recommend purchasing at least the TPBs of these three miniseries in addition to the omnibuses. Or you might forego the omnibuses altogether, sticking to the series of 12 TPBs, instead...

Segundo volumen de los integrales de The Boys, y todo sigue más o menos igual, pero mucho no importa porque gracias a una crisis de Hughie, Ennis se toma el tiempo de profundizar en las historias de cada uno de los miembros del grupo y otros personajes, y aunque tiene resultados mixtos (la historia de Frenchy en particular fue muy original, ambigua y graciosa, pero la de Leche Materna me pareció un poco trillada), le da otro contexto y peso a la reunión de la banda que segunramente se dará en el tomo 3.
Lo que menos me gustó fueron los matices de novela de la tarde de la relación de Annie y Hughie, me parece que Hughie reacciona de una forma exagerada, y el drama se extiende demasiado solo porque le es útil a la trama. Otro tema es la calidad del arte, que en algunos momentos decae considerablemente, lo cual es una pena porque es un buen comic en términos generales.
Lo que menos me gustó fueron los matices de novela de la tarde de la relación de Annie y Hughie, me parece que Hughie reacciona de una forma exagerada, y el drama se extiende demasiado solo porque le es útil a la trama. llevaba mas de tres años sin leer el comic, y lo retoem y fue un abarzo calido, algo complicado por haber visto las dos temporadas de la serie y que mucho de lo que esta en el programa de tv, esta en estas paginas, peor no importa, son dos animales distintos .
El amor de Annie y Hughie sigue, pero a la vez sus vidas se estrellan y habran lagrimas, dialogos duros, recriminaciones y amor, ah mucho amor, al tiempo que estan las historias de Oriegen de El Frances, La hembra y Leche Materna, con la historia de Herogasm que es muy sucia y divertida, y donde siento que el tomo trastabilla es en la visita de Hughie a Escocia, que se me hizo larga y aburrida.
El arte de Darrick Robertson esta muy bien, potente y mira, le quedan mejor las caras que en muchas paginas apsadas y lo de Russ Braun es de agradecer, con un arte potente y hermoso.

Вырашыў дачытаць усю гісторыю, раз ужо пачаў, але насамрэч не так ужо і цікава, як мне падавалася спачатку. Далей ужо жэсць дзеля жэсці, жорсткасць дзеля жорсткасці, гвалт дзеля гвалту. Усё ж Гарт Эніс дакладна не самы мой любімы сцэнарыст коміксаў. Ёсць пэўная палітычная інтрыга і трошкі таямніц, але яны разгадваюцца занадта лёгка. Трэба яшчэ трэці, заключны том прачытаць, і забыць - бо ўсё ж комікс прахадны, на маю думку.

Este segundo volumen me ha gustado mucho también. Aunque la trama no ha avanzado mucho, este volumen profundiza en los distintos personajes, su psicología y su pasado, lo cual siempre es interesante en una obra como esta, donde sus personajes son el centro de todo. Con muchas ganas de leer el tercero.

This is also a shockingly graphic issue, but picks up where the previous left off. It's different enough from the show I want to know how things pan out, but it's hard to get invested in some of these characters. But a lot happens in this edition and the plot keeps rolling.

A better follow up to volume 1. Ennius actually includes some plot in this one and a nice bit of satire as well.

Story and characters are great, but the art is often some of the worst I've seen in a graphic novel. Ennis needs some better creative partners.

Good character and plot developments and thoughtful exploration of some themes, especially around how the superhero situation would more realistically play out in the "real world". The sympathetic portrayal of the Superduper team, even more than G-wiz, brings some much needed variety to the mostly debauched and sociopathic superhero ranks. Only real complaint is I'm not really digging where the Hughie/Starlight romance/drama is going so far.

Excelente y el mejor de la trilogía, el inicio empieza con muchas perversiones y con actos lascivos que escandalizan y tiende a ser muy largo el inicio que crees que este volumen no tiene algo interesante que mostrar hasta que pasa al siguiente capítulo para darte cuenta que estas equivocado, con un trama muy interesante y ya que los personajes están desarrollados en el volumen anterior acá da más lugar al trama y a la acción. Este es uno de los mejores cómics que e leído este 2019

উই হিউই অবশেষে জানতে পারে যে, স্টারলাইট তার বান্ধবি। এখানে বুচার তার স্বার্থটাই দেখেছে খালি৷ মাদারস মিল্ক আর ফ্রেঞ্চি দুজনেই থামাতে সফল হয় বুচারকে৷ তা না হলে হয়ত হিউই মারাই যেত৷
শেষে হোমল্যান্ডার ও অন্যান্য সুপস রা কি যেন করবে! দলবদ্ধ হয়েছে তারা।

en la segunda entrega de estos integrales vemos hasta donde llega la impunidad fisica social y politica de esta trama, sin perder el humor negro de la serie ni el gore, vemos tambien la humanidad de los protagonistas y a la vez un sin fin de "homenajes" a la industria del comic.
