After finding my sister on her knees in front of my fiancé five days before Christmas, I flee to my late Grandfather's cabin in the snowy town of Sleepy Haven.
But my hopes of nursing my broken heart alone with my smutty books and an unholy amount of wine are thwarted when a strange man shows up on my doorstep.
Paxton Rhodes is an arrogant, cocky and filthy-mouthed A-hole, whose car has given out on the interstate. But with the snow storm swirling outside the cabin, no one is coming to help.
So it looks like we’re stuck together for the holidays.
And with only one bed and less than five hundred square feet of living space between us, we’re forced together in a way neither of us saw coming.
Lines blur and my wounded heart starts to long for something it can’t have.
Because as soon as the snow clears, Paxton will be gone. And that threatens to leave me even more broken than before.
“Whispers of December” is a quick and spicy holiday romance, with forced proximity and a dirty-talking hero.
Cringey, but also good? It was a good smutty time, but the author seemed to try to make it not about the spice, which kind of fell flat. I still enjoyed it, but honestly, the best part was the fact that it was short; it helped me get all the way through. I will say that the chemistry was there in some parts, and in other parts, I just couldn't feel it.
This scrumptious holiday read DELIVERS on what it promises - a snowed in, forced proximity romance between two strangers that is steamy as all hell, funny and perfect for the holidays!! ❄️ 😏
Paxton is a cocky, handsome stranger looking for shelter from a storm after his car breaks down. Instead he finds a feisty and beautiful December, who is staying in her late grandfather’s cabin for the holidays after finding her fiancé cheating with her sister.
I love when an author promises a good time in the dedication and doesn’t disappoint! Paxton is a reformed fuckboy with a mouth as filthy as sin. December is a quick witted and sharp tongued bookstagrammer that gives it as good as she gets. Their flirty banter had me laughing out loud and was the cherry on top. The way their relationship develops over such a short time absolutely tugs at your heartstrings and Maisie Myers did an amazing job of making you feel the feels in a such a short novella 🥹 It’s a spicy and sweet snowed in holiday gem that’s worth the read🎄 ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️/5 🌶️🌶️🌶️/5
5 Huge Stars! I came across a review of this book by chance and liked the sound of it so thought I’d give it a try. When I first started reading I saw the authors note about bookstagram accounts and thought this probably wouldn’t be for me. Usually I find it really cringe when authors try to incorporate bookstagram into books- it just doesn’t work. But somehow this author pitched it perfectly and it didn’t take anything away from the story or feel weird. I loved loved this book- although it’s a novella it doesn’t feel rushed and I loved both characters. Definitely one to add to your Christmas TBR!
Holy hell yall. I sat down to read this and literally didn't stop until it was finished! There is something so utterly and completely addicting about this story and these characters. I was so consumed by them and honestly and am so sad that it's over.
I think the biggest complaint with novellas is everything is smooshed together and there's not really room for growth. That is NOT the case with this one. The growth and character development that happened within these pages absolutely blew me away! Paxton is a gift and should be protected at all costs! AT. ALL. COSTS. And December...I just want to hug her and squeeze her and be her best friend. They were meant for each other. Oh..and fuck Oliver...but also...thanks for being a douche canoe so December could find who she was supposed to be with.
I also just have to say that Maisie did something that I've never seen before. She brought Bookstagram into the story and it was everything that I love about our little community. And the gasped and gusped when I saw my handle in there. Honestly, I don't need anything else for Christmas this year! It was made here.
I really don’t think it comes as surprise that I’m a HUGE fan of Maisie’s. I love her. I love this book. I love these characters. And while it’s not a romcom, I laughed my butt off because she’s a comedic genius. Read this!!
What you’ll find: - Forced proximity - Snowed in at a cabin for the holidays - Reformed playboy - She’s a bookstagrammer going through a breakup - His car broke down and needs somewhere to stay - Dirty mouth MMC
This novella was everything I wanted in a holiday story. Myers always has a way with pulling at my heartstrings, but I wasn’t expecting to laugh out loud so many times. I loved the banter. I loved the spice. I loved loved the IG posts 😂😂
The dedication “To all my ho ho hoes who just wanna read about a girl getting railed to put you in the holiday spirit. I got you. Merry fucking Christmas”.
Fucking DELIVERED 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼
For a short novella, this book delivered on its dedication! The characters were, witty, and snarky, and the banter, was great, I caught myself laughing so hard at times. There was plenty of spice and I really felt like I spent 4-5 days in a cabin with Winter and Paxton! For a short book, this Novella flowed, I loved it, it was fun to read.
"Has no one ever told you that you should never talk to a woman while she's reading? Seriously, where are your manners?"
"So yeah, I'll kiss her, but only when she begs me to."
"Why are you doing this?" "Because no matter how hard he made you come, I will make you come harder," I growl.
"It wasn't my brain controlling my movements, it was my soul. My heart. And when she tangled her fingers through mine... it felt right. Like we were always supposed to end up here, somehow. In this little cabin in a sleepy town as snow swirls all around us, it feels like more than a simple coincidence that drove us together. A higher power, perhaps. Fate, even."
I really enjoyed this holiday novella from start to finish! It was the perfect palate cleanser after reading some disappointing books that didn’t live up to their hype. The plot was engaging, and the spice added just the right touch of excitement! Definitely recommend for a good/quick holiday read.
4⭐️ 3.5🌶️ For a short novella this is definitely one of the better ones. I normally feel like anything less than 200 pages is difficult to pretend anything real can develop. Did the HEA feel a little rushed, of course, but for a quick spicy holiday romance this one delivered. Dare I say, with that dedication I was expecting a few more spicy scenes squeezed in there.
"No one should ever make you feel like what you're doing isn't important or worthy. They shouldn't break you down, they should build you up. Share in your excitement, even if they don't fully understand it. They don't need to understand to be proud."
Whispers Of December by Maisie Myers is a Bookstagrammers dream, so it's serendipitous that I first heard about it from a Bookstagram friend!
December escapes to a cozy cabin in the woods of small town Sleepy Haven, only to have Paxton show up at the doorstep after his car broke down. Spotty cell service and a snowstorm forces these two to co-exist days before Christmas.
Not going to lie... I was here for the steam, and that promise was more than fulfilled!
Somehow, this little novella walked a delicate line, and the steam wasn't ever overdone and I never once felt overwhelmed by all the sexy scenes. Nor did I find the steam overtaking the actual plot, and I loved how there were actual meaningful conversations and character growth in this book as well!
There were two tiny details that I had to suspend my own reality for, but never did these specific points detract from my enjoyment of the story!
And... can we take a moment to respect this cover!? You could read this book at your Grandma's Christmas dinner, and none of your family would be any the wiser what transpires deep inside!
Dirty style key points: -Bookstagrammers wet dream -Booksta posts and comments add toychest fun -enough heat to keep you warm during a snowstorm -novella length is expertly used
This one is for those celebrating SMUTmas or anyone in need of a new book boyfriend/girlfriend!
Thank you Wordsmith Publicity and Maisie Myers for the complimentary copy to read and review.
Holy Christmas, this book was just perfect! To be honest, I went in blind thinking it was going to be a good read, but it was an EVERYTHING read!!! So incredibly written, building a connection with each character. It was so easy to read and super funny...honestly, it was just the perfect book for Christmas.
We met December and Paxton; they met in an unlikely scenario of her wanting to be alone and he needs a place to stay while the storm blows over. Together they get to know each other, they challenge each other and the chemistry...OMG, you will feel it bleeding off the pages. Paxton has a dirty mouth and boy does he know how to use it! He also knows how to use all his body parts extremely well, December was one lucky girl. The spice in this was so hot, that I just devoured every-single-delicious-word. 🥵🥵
Dual POV, under 200 pages and ends in the most beautiful HEA. Please give this book a go, you will honestly love it!! I adored it so much, that I'm purchasing the paperback after reading it off KU.
5/5⭐️ The ultimate snowed-in Christmas read with a golden retriever big boy and black cat heroine!! So much fun and humor and emotion packed into this novella. I loved December’s sass. Paxton is just a sexy, cinnamon roll fuckboy that quickly turns into a simp. Their banter is so fun, and his nickname for her, “little hellion,” is a total fav. The spice was sooooo good and the fact that the FMC is a smut slut influencer just made it all the better😝 The way she described his “porn voice”…. 🫠🥵 and we LOVE a man that takes notes on our bedroom flavors and executes them with perfect precision!!! Claps for Pax👏🏼👏🏼
No excuses to not devour this Christmas novella this season!!
I have no words the smut, the storyline it was all just perfection! I binged this book so hard and already wanna reread because I loved every second of it! ❤️❤️🎄
Snowed in with a stranger, who then gives her the best sex of her life… damn! Oh and goes out of his way to make her enjoy Christmas… omg I love Paxton!
I fucking died when she thought he had a gun and just put her hand in his pocket after he said it wasn’t a gun and then she realised and he’s like “still not a gun” HAHAHA! And the fact she forgot she was naked whilst interrogating him… DEAD! Not to mention when she asks why his dick is hard and he says “why are you still holding it”!!!
The fact he listened to what she likes, and then gives that to her.
Then, this mother fucker jacks himself off on the couch and then looks at her after spilling his load and FUCKING WINKS AND SAYS “GOOD SHOW?” AHHHHHHHHHH
This man can fuck, wowza! The part where he makes her hold her vibrator to her clit and tells her he won’t keep going unless she puts it back and doesn’t take it off again… holy hell. I would black out too December, god girl.
I also love that he referred to Oliver as “big-dick-Oliver-who-doesn’t-know-how-to-use-it”
I died when he ran out of her room and then when she finds him in the bathroom sweaty he said I have the shits HAHAHAHAHA! Like wow, smoothe my guy.
I also love when she said “this man has me dickmatized” HAHAHAHA 🍆
I was so sad when he left without saying anything but I’m so glad he came to his senses and went back. I was not expecting him to blurt out I Love You but damn boy, that’s how you get her attention!
