Roth's journey continues in book 2 of Hidden Pacifist, a series featuring a protagonist who overcomes his anger management issues to become the most peaceful man on Earth. Join Roth in a sci-fi fantasy cyberpunk adventure with a unique progression LitRPG system.
The next chapter in Roth's journey takes him to Hilsford.
After getting his journey off to a good start and becoming friends with the ratans, foxes, badgers, corvids, and boars of the woods, it's time to take his journey to one of the big cities of AstroTerra, Hilsford.
But instead of finding a peaceful city where he can rest, he finds a competitive environment ridden with mobsters and slavers. To make matters worse, Roth's enemies are picking up his scent, and the pressure is on.
Hi there! I’m Cássio, and I write clean, wholesome LitRPG. My work has gathered over 2 million views on Royal Road.
My stories focus on progression, crafting, VRMMO systems, cozy vibes, and characters who grow in meaningful ways. If you like animals, aliens, good-hearted adventures, and worlds that feel warm instead of grim, you’ll probably feel at home in my books.
I share early chapters and behind-the-scenes updates on Royal Road and Patreon, and the finished books slowly make their way to Amazon.
Consistent with book 1 Fantasy / LitRPG / Stuck in the game world / rule bending - exploitation / non-violence The story of Roth continues as he makes it to the first in game city. Fewer talking animals more human NPCs. This one is less precious & weepy but just a shade less charming. Overall it's about the same.
3 The Snakes Look At Your Clumsy Dance Moves And Feel Disrespected By Your Lack Of Grace Stars
Hilsford is the second book in the Hidden Class: Pacifist series by Cássio Ferreira.
At this point in the store, I had hoped to know more regarding the other species of animals available to earn a reputation. This ARC has still been fascinating in the way Loki's vendetta and machinations to overtake the game world of AstroTerra highjack the storyline. When we encounter a growing danger within the bowels of the sewer beneath Hilsford, Roth has been forced to explore and develop in with his old teammates still hunting him on the surface world. I was wrong in assuming the wolves would be the first new species he would explore further.
Some of the dialogue has been very stilted at times. Mostly with the older veteran and his crew. But also with Drake. This has led to some disconnect while continuing the story. Even interactions that came across as more natural and fluid in the first book were disjointed by comparison.
I have enjoyed him reaching out to his family and finding some solace in finding human connection within and without the game world. His high emotions at times are a little much for me. They don't always come across as genuine. More that they fulfill an intended characteristic than anything. I'm unsure whether I will continue the series at this point.
The world building is what truly makes the decision to abandon any attempt to continue on a difficult one. The mix of alien invasion tied into adventuring fantasy is a new take for me. Especially when we are just starting to really glimpse the sci-fi aspects at play. With the cyborg class and the dark aligned oozing parasitic style creatures.
This is a very enjoyable book, but it lacked the emotional impact of the first book because the reader has already been introduced to the struggle Roth has with anger management and the importance he places on not being a person who solves his problems through violence even in a videogame.
Watching Roth work to level up through non-violent means is interesting. He continues to form alliances with nonhuman creatures and struggles to help them make peace with their traditional enemies--all while keeping his own enemy from finding him. He has to deal with the consequences of such issues as eating meat, working with hides, and accidentally causing the death of evil creatures. These are credible problems for a man struggling to be a pacifist to encounter.
Speaking of pacifism, Roth finds his hidden class in this book, positioning him to begin exploring just how much peace he can bring to a videogame world.
Roth's growth as a person was (after many frustrating extremes) satisfying and I'm really looking forward to the (hopefully) more balanced path ahead. I like that we still see a lot of the Ratans while also meeting new friends and discover new aspects of gameplay. While I did enjoy this book immensely, it's obvious that this was written and published continuously week after week instead of the more traditional route. It would have benefited by a little more editing to weed out repetitions and help the story flow.
Still loving this series. The author continues to come up with new and intriguing ways of progressing the MC’s growth.
The only note of disharmony for me is how naive the MC is. He ran a guild in his previous life. He was a hardcore gamer. Now that he has his anger under control he all of a sudden doesn’t understand and can’t interact with people? Not a huge deal, but kinda threw me off.
Same issues as the first one plus this one was incredibly repetitive which is something I was glad the first one didn't have. Onto my next adventure, Happy Readings!!!!
