CHARACTERS- So I thought that I would hate this book because I didn't like Ronan but when I read this book I fell in love with him and he is so amazing. I never really understood him and now seeing the story from his point of view, I really love him as a character.
ROMANCE- So the moments between Ronan and Drew were amazing and beautiful and I never liked them in the previous books together but now I adore them. I still ship Carden and Drew but I ship Drew and Ronan too and I don't care what's endgame.
PLOT- The plot was so good and fast paced and I enjoyed it a lot.
ENDING- I adored the ending and I can't wait to read the final book in the series.
Turns out Veronica Wolff's Dark Craving was a novella! Goodreads had me thinking it was a novel with the book 5 tidbit, but it's under 100 pages, so novella! And yet it was still awesome to finally get inside Ronan's head! No matter how many times I may say it, I always gotta give kudos to our authors when they delve into writing from the male perspective. As a struggling, aspiring writer myself, I don't think I could be capable of such things, but Veronica is definitely one of those writers who pulls it off smoothly!
Yes, we finally get inside Ronan's head. We learn what drives him and what his motivations are. In the beginning, we see how he came to recruit Annelise and seeing something more to her. That she was different from the other girls he had to recruit. Then we are automatically jumped to present day and that is when we learn a whole helluva lot of info!
I can't remember precisely what went on in The Keep, been way too many books since then, but bits of it came back as events were mentioned in Dark Craving. So we learn what Ronan's been up to and how he's working for a different set of vampires. He wants to be with Annelise, but since she's bonded to Carden, she's out of his reach. But he will do anything for a chance to see her again, and that comes when he's given a most impossible task, kill Daugursson.
Dark Craving was a pretty fast paced read and I loved every minute of it! This is definitely one of those series that just captivates me and I am at a loss as to explain why. Annelise is part of the reason, as she was the sort of awkward heroine, but she has definitely grown into her own. And of course there's Ronan, and what's not to love about him! Especially his cover mode, swoon! He's right up there with Pepe for me! ;)
I am very much looking forward to the next installment in this series, Follow. Whether that's to be a full length novel or another novella has yet to be clear to me, especially since I assumed wrong with this one. But I definitely say do not pass this one up if you're reading the series. I feel like the events that occurred here are pretty important and are not to be missed when we journey back with the next release.
Oh. My. Stars. I simply devoured this one. So many answers. So many secrets. And so much goodness! Dark Craving is just as good as the other books in the series, if not even better. Getting into Ronan's head after all this time is beyond fascinating.
Ronan has remained one of my favorite characters of the series throughout all of the books, so getting into his head and finally getting some answers from him was fascinating. There was just an overflow of information readers get in this one - and I loved it.
All I know now is I want more story! This series remains one of my favorites - it is edgy and the stakes are high. Veronica Wolff doesn't hold anything back and she really pulls out all the stops with Dark Craving.
I have followed this series because of Ronan. As soon as this is released, I have jumped on it immediately and bypassing book 4. I have been anxious to find out his POV. Finally, something is happening between Ann and Ronan. Whoot-woot! I have high hopes that these two will end up together in the end. I have this intuition also that there's something going on between Carden and Lottie. The revelation in this novella has made the series even more interesting. I can't wait for book 6.
As it's been years since I've read the fourth book in this series, I'm not sure how much this novella has added to my experience with the series. I was expecting Ronan to be tougher somehow. Instead, he's portrayed as a sap in love, and that's not the image I wanted to have of him. As things stand, I don't remember how the events of the novella impact on the overall story of the series. I guess I'd better read the next full book pretty soon, lest I forget everything, again.
Finally Ronan reveales his fealings for Drew. Now it gets real tricky with the love triangle for her. What's the plan of Ronan's sister? What do they all want with Drew? How will they break Drew's bond to Carden? And many questions more... Another book with a lot of open questions which cry for answers! I hope there will be a continuation soon!!!
This is a novella from Ronan’s point of view that starts just before he’s about to pick up Drew in the first book, follows him up until the moment he gets her on the plane, and then skips ahead to the current timeline at the end of THE KEEP.
*heavy breathing*
What a hell of a book to have as one of those little teaser novellas that authors like to put out. I’ll tell you right now you can’t go from book 4 to book 5 without reading DARK CRAVING. You just can’t. Because THINGS HAPPEN THAT YOU MUST KNOW ABOUT. And considering they happen here, and not in book five, it makes me wonder how those tidbits are going to get dropped into the story. I don’t have to wait very long, thank god. I have book 5 sitting in my inbox as we speak.
But the things! With the thing! And the people! Holy swear words! Talk about not wanting a book to end.
Plus it was nice getting things from Ronan’s perspective too. He’s always so closed off and guarded with Drew and even when he isn’t it’s hard to tell what he means. Well, you get it all here and it’s rather refreshing. Not a fan of the developing love triangle that’s going on here (just not a fan of that in general) but we’ll see where it goes. Especially since Drew’s feelings for Carden appear to be based on an accidental need while her feelings for Ronan are more based on a want developed over time. The latter seems a bit more stable for me. Just saying.
So the development with the vampires, which I’ll refrain from spoiling, is PHENOMENAL. Like had me going YEAH when I read it. And it’s one piece of information after another here. So much crammed into so short a book. Such a tease. But all so fantastically awesome.
If you haven’t gotten on board with The Watchers series yet I don’t know what you’re waiting for. It just keeps getting better and better.

I received a copy of this book from the author in exchange for an honest review.
From the previous Watchers Books, I already loved Ronan but now I love him even more. Ronan has always been quiet and did not share how he really felt but with this book we get into his head. He loves Drew so much that he risks his own life for her. I am so looking forward to the next book in this series.
Juicy and fierce! This book had all the LoVe and Lust and smoldering looks that all us ladies wish we had in real life. I'm just as in love with Ronan as Annalise Drew is!
Ronan was a Tracer, he recruited boys and girls from the outside world and brought them to the Isle of Night. the boys would be trained to become Vampires one day, while the girls Watchers. these boys and girls were tough in their own way, most wouldn’t be missed when they went missing. the Directorates had been the one giving out instructions on who to abduct, and Ronan was merely their tool. however, Ronan had a second responsibility. he was also part of the secret rebellious group waiting to wage a war against the Directorate. the group was led by women, vampires older than the Directorate, who sought to return everything to the old ways.
the short novella followed Ronan instead of Annelise for a change. not a change for good, but it was equally entertaining seeing Annelise through Ronan’s eyes. it got a little dull when it came to Ronan’s past and his determination to find his original family instead of the foster one he landed with before he became a Tracer. fortunately, because of his feelings towards Annelise, he was forced to kill one of the ancient vampire just to see her. the assassination was every bit engaging and overwhelming as it could be. the moment Annelise joined in action, the fun had only just begun. the further complications and unexpected turn of event having Charlotte, Ronan’s dead older sister appeared, added a perfect topping to the very delicious treat the book turned out to be.
I like the Watchers series greatly. Annelise, the main character, is smart, funny, and competent. As is the norm in this genre, there's a guy in the background, obviously interested in her against his will. This book is from the guy's viewpoint and it just didn't work for me. 1.) It didn't feel like a male character's voice to me. 2.) He suffers from insta-love. 3.) The surprising amount of plot (there are some big moments here for the entire series) took me by surprise. 4.) Annelise comes off a bit dim in Ronan's words, as opposed to the plucky type we see when the books are from her perspective.
I devoured this little gem in one sitting! Admittedly it is a novella so it was no great feat but delving into Ronan's delicious mind is like that first bite of an Arnotts Tim Tam biscuit-once you start you just can't stop until the pack is gone:) My advice.. Do not dismiss this one because it's a novella or you will be sorry. Not only do we see Ronan's hard edge facade fall away and experience one of THE best first kisses but also because soo many secrets hidden within 4 books are finally revealed but there is still so much more to come. I need book 5 RIGHT NOW *stomps feet*!
Secrets, lies and mysteries are revealed in Dark Craving. Veronica Wolff left us with a cliffhanger in the last book and now we finally get some answers about our broodingly silent yet sexy Tracer Ronan. This novella is jammed packed with twists and turns from beginning to the very last page. If you love the Watchers series, and hot Scottish men like Carden and Ronan, you will not be disappointed. In fact Dark Craving will get you a little more insight into the story behind the mysterious Isle of Night and prepares you for what's to come. This is definitely a must read.
Loved this insight into Ronan's mind and the additional information that makes sense of everything that has been going on. The one thing that I did NOT like is that it totally changed my perspective on Carden. Maybe he isn't the right one for Drew after all. Ronan's feelings for Drew seem to far surpass Carden's. Carden now appears slightly sketchy and his motives are questionable. Ronan & Drew have something that appears to defy even her bond with Carden. I can't wait to read the next installment.
Wow! Sooooo much better than the previous book. It was short but action-packed with quite a few secrets revealed and a twist or two thrown in for good measure. I'm probably a bit biased since I've always preferred Ronan, which means any novella from his POV has to be good. Annelise started bugging me in the last book, so it was a relief not to be in her head for a while.
This was awesome. Loved his POV. Finally able to understand how he thinks. To finally know his true feelings. Now if we could get into Carden's head. I was all about Carden at one point, but now I really don't know. Can we trust him? You find out so much in this one. Who knew that about Tracers? Lottie was a sure surprise. WOW! Can't wait for the next installment.
Ronan's POV was more than I expected! It's so nice to know how he really feels. In the previous 4 books in the series I was never sure because he was so coy. Ronan may be the sexiest book character in a series!!! I can't get enough of him!
I let Team Carden entertain me while Ronan made scarce appearances and was brooding way too much, but half an hour of his POV and I'm all the way back to Team Ronan and have most of my questions about the plot actually answered. Way to go my lad.
Loved the change of POV to Ronan. just a short novella to give us some insight and advance the story a little. Can't wait for the next full length novel.
Veronica Wolff has a winner in this series. Great Read.
I really enjoyed this viewpoint. Not only did it answer a few questions left over from the other books it also caught up to where we left off. Happy, happy, joy, joy! I really do hope she has no problem with self publishing, because i am soooo ready for the next one :-)
I could not love Ronan more if I tried. I LOVED this little tidbit in to his psyche. This might actually be the best novella I have read in terms of giving more information. SO GOOD.
