This is the second book I've read by Ms. Salnikova. The first book, Love, Thais, is a remarkable piece of writing that left me breathless and wanting more. And because of that, I believe I have high expectations when it comes to reading this author's work.
Silence in the House starts off by introducing our characters and setting up future events through events and descriptors that made me anxious at times. Why? Because Ms. Salnikova is an expert on mood disorders as I can tell from the two books I've read. Her depiction of the marriage between Lana and Spike is disturbingly thorough and the scenes between them did disturb me on a level I haven't felt in a long time.
Without giving away spoilers, it's ok to say that Lana enters a house that has a shady past but she doesn't know about it. She and the house have a strong bond which is later explained and helpful to forwarding the plot. She experiences some unfortunate events that are bothersome to say the least. With her newfound friendships and relationships, Lana is able to overcome the mysticism that lives in the house. Meanwhile, the ending has a twist that makes things kind of disturbing because evil doesn't die without the proper treatment. What does that mean? Read the book. You won't be disappointed.
Some of the earlier chapters run through a little quickly for my taste. I almost got frustrated at how fast things went except I stopped and realized that it was all just building up to the upcoming conflict and things to come. So maybe part of me really wanted a bit more development before jumping into the true story. To the author: please don't be upset with me. :)
Now let me back up to this point... Ms. Salnikova is excellent at developing relationships of all kinds in her writing. Just as in her previous book, she builds bonds and walls and trusts that are incredibly emotional and real to life. With all that is going on, the author sticks to the authenticity of a person's past and how they respond as adults depending on their history.
Definitely look into adding this book to your collection. I know I'm going to pick up her other books because so far the author has yet to disappoint me.

Lana is in an abusive relationship with her husband Spike. She suffers this domestic violence for a number of years then gets the courage to leave and buy a house to live on her own. Only there are some problems she must wrestle with in her new home.
Silence in the house is a cross-genre novel, it has a domestic violence survivor tale, supernatural encounters and romance. This is a run-of-the-mill novel and is nothing special. It is an easy book to put down and the writing is very middle-of-the-road. There is no WOW! factor and this is not a gripping story. It is easy reading and I developed an empathy for the characters. The pace is okay and the supernatural things are rather odd. The book has a happy ending and WITHOUT giving anything away, dog owners will then make sense of the supernatural bits, even an Atheist like me!
Silence in the house is an okay read, so I will vote it the middle score of 3 stars.

Wonderful, scary story.
Wonderful, scary story.
This turned out to be an excellent read. I hope to read many more of this author's books! I have one more to read, and will probably get more.

This was a unique take on the haunted house story, I actually liked the characters (except Allison) and I liked what happened to them throughout. It did drag on at times and the end was a bit confusing.

I can't say i like to read about abusive relationships. It disturbs me. But in this book abuse glues everything together and all the upcoming events feel different and even more scary in a way. I really liked the mystique side of this story and it's paranormal aspect. It's more fresh to me than most of the novels I've read in past months. We all know that mostly paranormal and supernatural in books and movies give us only very familiar monsters and beings. Demons, vamps, ghosts ect. And we loose a lot of interesting characters from folklore, wich is bad, because their dark side can be much more interesting and scary than most starmonsters.
I also really liked main heroes. They both are a bit plain, but that what makes it better to me. Two very common people, that live in their very common world of everyday routines - bills, work, abuse - suddenly find themselves thrown in a middle of paranormal srory. They see, feel and experience something so absurd, that it really push them to free their minds and be alive again.
This book is not extrimely violent, creepy or pompous, but it will give you something to think about.

Did not finish. I have read some really bad books, but this was by FAR the worst. The plot drags, the characters are uninteresting, and the dialog is awkward. The writing is just horrendous. Let's see if I can imitate the style.

Quite a good book. The story builds and builds to a very satisfying, unexpected ending. I'll be looking for more from this author. Very, very nice writing style.

Not The Best THRILLER, Diissapointing
When this book starts out you think you have found a really good edge of your seat story but as it turns out it gets a little cheesy. The character's were a little boring and I lost interest in about the middle of the book, if you are looking for a well written story where you are really anxious and can't wait to find out what's next this not the book. Glad I only paid one dollar for this one.

Lana feels safe and secure in her new home, but no one else does! Those who enter end up dead, or worse. The house, and Lana, have a dark secret. Who will survive her friendship? Only the house knows for sure!

By far one of the worst books I have ever read. I am shocked that not more people have rated this book- the plot was awful, characters were transparent with absolutely no progression; and even basic grammar took a hit. I am questioning why an editor would even publish this.

Worst book ever. The writing was seriously awful. The character interactions were dull. I can't believe someone published this. The story could have been good... but the writing - yikes!!... is the author in elementary school?

Had some good moments. Good plot and character development. Would recommend this book to friends as a book to read when wanting an easy read.
