A fourth spine-tingling visit to the secret London borough of Darkside... A Blood Succession, a mysterious watch, and chaos in the streets - just another day in Darkside. Jonathan is back home again when he hears that Vendetta has gone missing - and that's not even the worst of it. Teaming up with some old friends, Jonathan becomes embroiled in a terrifying Darkside mystery - and he discovers the answer to a question he's been asking for years: could his mother still be alive?
Tom Becker grew up in a market town in the northwest of England, dreaming of becoming a writer. He won the 2007 Waterstones' Children's Book Prize with his first novel, Darkside, and has continued to blur the lines between history and fantasy in brooding adventure and horror stories such as The Traitors and While The Others Sleep. He has also published an adult novel, The Cold Tap, on Kindle under his real name, Tom Beckerlegge. Tom lives in London with his wife, baby son, and a horde of shadowy creatures that he keeps confined within the pages of his notebook. He can be found on Twitter at @Tbeckerlegge.
I really enjoyed reading this book. Tom Becker has a talent for writing suspense-packed so you don't want to put the book down. Its easy to follow the story but yet you don't see what's coming. I'm really exited for the last part and to finally find out if Jonathan and his friends will succeed and win against the bad guys or if there'll be any losses (fingers crossed that everyone survives)
The Docklands Light Railway train moved sinuously through the grey London morning, following a winding path around the skyscrapers of Canary Wharf. Every change of points, every stop and start was computerized; there were no drivers on the DLR. They were ghost trains. In his seat at the front of the lead carriage, Jonathan watched through drizzle-splattered windows as the track unfolded out in front of him. He was used to tube trains charging blindly through the Underground - this felt as though he were at the controls of some sort of giant computer game.
its spire still managed to raise a crooked salute to the sky
I liked this book from the Darkside series. It was very fast and had a lot of twists. I especially liked the blood succession bits with the Rippers Marianne and Lucien to see who would rule Darkside. I liked how he also had a new half darkside character in this one alongside Jonathan and the way Jonathan slips back into the world of Darkside with Raquella and Carnegie after living back with his Dad for a while pretending to be a normal kid. I don't think this is my favourite out of the series but it is still very good. Just one more in the series to read now.
This book was AMAZING! I really liked it, however I'm not sure if I could say it was my favourite of the series. It was fast paced, exciting, dramatic and full of mystery and suspense like the others in the series. The way a thriller should be!
I loved the twist about Marianne shown earlier in the series and think it was great that Becker continued his! The blood succession is shown and it ends with a slight twist that has a big effect on Jonathan!
Oh I do love the Darkside series. In my quest to finish the many series of books that I have started (The Hunger Games, Geek Girl etc.,) I decided to read the 4th book in the Darkside series. It was bloody good.
In keeping with the gothic dark nature of the book we are once again thrust underground into the Darkside, a Victorian city that runs parallel to modern day London. We meet the same cast of characters from the previous books but what is impressive about Timecurse is that we start to see a different side to some of the more twisted characters. We see that the nature of our villains isn’t one dimensional.
Further villains are thrown into the mix and Jonathan Starling, once again, gets caught up in the drama…but he is also one step closer to finding out what happened to his mother.
Basically, Timecurse is boss and it has made me all the more eager to read the final book in the series.
Timecurse (Darkside, #4) by Tom Becker is available now.
