The Autobiography of an Infinite Being or How I Turned into a Bird on My 80th Birthday

Rate this book
Stories have immense power.

When Ailith wakes up on her 80th birthday to discover three crane toes where her human foot used to be, she knows she doesn't have much time left. Ailith is an Infinite Being and her human experience is quickly coming to an end. In a race against the clock, she sets out to record the fantastic, and seemingly unbelievable, stories from her human iteration before her transition into bird form is complete. Ailith's strange life includes tales of vampires and werewolves, wizards and mystics, and even a talking dog. But is it real or fantasy?

As Ailith reflects on her existence in human form to share the lessons she's learned, it would be easy to say her life was like a fairy tale... but is there something more to Ailith's story?

This is an unusual book. I do not know what to compare it to except perhaps “Faerie Knitting” by Alice and Lisa Hoffman. Except that is a craft book and this is a novel. But they both revolve around Fairy Tales. If you like Fairy Tales I would think you would like this book. It is not a fairy story for children it has descriptions of crime and abuse. I mention this just in case you’re thinking of gifting it to a child. It is an adult themed story. It’s a bit repetitive in phrasing but has some poetry that I enjoyed. The main character is an I can’t spell for shit. Which I found kind of funny just think of bird watchers and college professors. It’s a great book a bit rough concepts in some ways. A pretty quick read thought provoking about humans and death which seems to be a big theme in my reading this year.

The Autobiography of an Infinite Being is a gut wrenching novel reflecting on a life lived in trauma and beauty, seen through the lens of fantasy. Adrienne H Lee’s debut novel takes the reader on a life-long journey of a young woman from childhood, to young adult, middle age and beyond. With the help of wizards, werewolves, and other fantastical creatures our main character learns to move past the worst life has to offer and find the beauty in a life simply lived amongst those we love…bring tissues

Riveting Read: I finished book after Chapter 10 post!! The Autobiography of an Infinite Being to be surprised by Adrienne H. Lee's storytelling talent. Readers will be moved by the emotions in the story of transformation and the gifts of life to survive evil. From chapters Dark Woods to Beginning each person who reads this book will have own story to think about from now on and live happily ever after.

The stories as narrated by Ailith speak metaphorically to the emtional and developmental barriers many of us face, especially if there was trauma and hardship. Using fairy te characters frees the reader to be less critical of the character

's frailties and strange thoughts. It was a fun book to read and would be well suited for adolescents and coming of age genres.

Beautiful fairytale that empowers the reader to live life to the fullest. Express yourself, be free, be bold and dance like nobody is watching. I can’t wait to read more magical fairytales from Adrienne H. Lee.
