Thank you to the author for sending me a copy of this book. All thoughts are my own.
This was a very quick and entertaining read for me. I did get slightly bored towards the middle of the book as the entirety of the plot is spent building up the heist.
Due to this, I expected the heist to be amazing and blow me off my feet, but I was unfortunately disappointed by how low stakes the heist itself was. The characters are built to fit the description of being “the best” at their jobs, so the heist coming off as simple and chill makes sense. Coming from a reader’s perspective though, I was let down from all the build up.
This book received most of its three stars from the characters and relationships. I love falling in love with fictional characters (duh), and I also am addicted to when an author makes me love side characters just as much as the main characters.
The main characters, Jimin and Chelsea, are very cute together. Their relationship is everything I would want in a book like this, including “touch her and you die” and Jimin being very protective over Chelsea. Although, to me, a lot more of the book was spent on their relationship than was necessary.
The side characters, who are the assistants in the heist, were hilarious and really fun to read about. I loved watching relationships develop in the background, behind the POVs of the main characters.
One other thing I liked was the addition of the police chief’s POV. I loved seeing his opinion of the heist.
I would definitely recommend this if you loved Six of Crows and the found family trope. A decent read for anyone who loves crime and high stakes.
There's fade to black spice and some interpersonal drama within their heist group. I found the two mc likeable enough.
I was a little confused in the beginning because Chelsea was alluding to a reason she had to dislike Jimin, but I didn't find the reason sufficient. As a professional criminal, she should've known that once you get caught, you'll be on your own. It's not realistic to expect the others to incriminate themselves and also get jailed. Also, the story is set in 2092, which seems a bit random because the tech they use isn't necessarily futuristic.
But those were minor things that didn't take away from my overall enjoyment of the story.

I received an ARC from the author. My opinions are my own.

Code of Conduct is a nice and entertaining book. It is on the shorter side with almost 230 pages, the writing style is nice, makes it an easy and fast read. I love heist novels, and this book starts of with the heist, in the action. But skipping from the heist, we learn more of the characters in the book, and of their backgrounds throughout the book.
The buildup to the heist is done in a nicely fashion, it didn't feel like the book dragged on, but went on smoothly. The story is being told from dual pov; Jimin and Chelsea, the two main characters. The dual pov brings more dept to the story, and I love that.
I feel like this is more a YA book, I've had several moments throughout the book that I was wondeirng about the ages of the characters, the dialogue and the behaviour of the characters gave of a YA vibe to me. The story takes place in the future, in 2092. But I didn't catch that from the story, so if it had set in this time, I would have easily believed that.
It's a nice debut and series starter. The author will grow into her writing more as i read a lot of potential, and I'd love to continue this series! 3,5 stars, rounded up for Goodreads.
I LOVE a good heist novel as I grew up on some unbelievable crime books & movies. When reading the book it brought me back to my favourite movie Inside Man (2006) where the heist was setting someone else to take the fall.
✨ Bank heist x hostage novel ✨ Corrupt thief society/organisation ✨ Told through multiple POV - Jimin, Chelsea, and the detective Seo-Jun ✨Romance between Jimin & Chelsea ✨Narrative choice - present tense but the characters offer future comments as if re-telling the story of their heist ✨ A series!
I would label this novel YA as the dialogue, movement of the plot, and the character's actions all felt quite young. The novel also felt like two different texts when comparing the start to the middle/end. The book really began during the bank heist and the start spoiled the ending and did not offer much at all.
Code of Conduct felt like a nice low stakes heist book. Whilst the bank was considered 'impossible' to break into, the book set up the characters and their group as being the very best. By telling the audience they were the best, a mastermind, and the smartest, it felt like they were going to achieve it easily. This was also fuelled by the narrative choice. The book switched between present tense and the characters making comments on their choices as if they were reciting the story. Due to them telling the audience the story, the two main characters were obviously going to survive. I love this narrative choice but the heist was low stakes for me.
Chelsea and Jimin had a sweet romance - 'touch her and you die' vibe. They were both equally skilled and the best of their fields. These characters were the two who the readers got to know the most as the others were mostly side characters to fuel the story.
An odd choice to set in 2092. I felt the text could have easily been set in current times. The setting would pop up every now and again but didn't quite fuel the story in the best way possible. As a fantasy reader, the world must have a very strong correlation to the story or not at all.
Thank you to the author for sending me an electronic ARC 🫶🏻 I am always so honoured and appreciative when I get these opportunities. The above was my honest and truthful opinion.

ARC READ. This story was interesting but it was a bit hard for me to keep up with at first. The more I read, I felt like I was reading a version of Oliver Twist but set way into the future. It kind of reminded me of In Time, the movie starring Justin Timberlake, with the status quo situation. The two main characters, in my opinion, were funny because of this attitude they have. They steal from each other and I just found it funny and pleasing. Don’t underestimate it because there are tons of twists and turns. When you think you got it, it goes a different direction. It’s definitely something I would continue to read once there’s more to the series. The author definitely has potential.
This book is set in the future with an Oliver Twist vibe. There are multiple characters that the author uses to tell the story of a heist. The two main characters are interesting as the progress through the story. There are several side characters who feel more interesting than the main characters. The author has a lot of potential in her stories. I feel like this book was introducing us to the characters and world that they live in. I would read the next book in the series.
I’m thankful for the opportunity to have been sent this as an ARC read! I really enjoyed this story. The relationships between all the characters were super cute and I especially loved the relationship between the two main characters. It’s a fun read with some twists and turns. There’s a lot of potential here so I’m excited to see what comes next!
I liked being able to have the officers POV, I felt it was a nice touch.
It gave me money heist vibes 🫶💸

*ARC received from the author. All words and opinions are my own.
This was a fairly good read that was slow moving to begin with but was well paced and full of action as the world was built and the story unfurled. It features multiple POVs and some spice. It seemed to be more in the YA range in my opinion, but it maintained my curiosity. Overall a good fast read, and I would recommend to anyone who enjoys action and adventure.
If you love capers and heist stories you will love this book. Reminds me of the style of the Ocean's movies. This story is fast paced, easy read, and keeps you guessing. There is a code among thieves. Chessman assembles his team for the biggest, most impossible heist he can think of. Be prepared to be swept away. Has every worse possible scenario been figured out? Will everything go as according to plan? Is the bank really that secure? The book was fantastic and fun!
I loved this book! I couldn’t put it down. I love that the action never stopped.
And Chelsea and Jimin’s relationship is seriously couple goals ❤️
I almost thought we lost her there towards the end! I’m so glad they got their happy ending and with the last sentence, I’m really hoping there will be a book 2!!

Had a good plotline, but the relationships were confusing. For me personally it took away from the storyline. It was not my typical read, it is a very niche book, that is not my type. I'm sure there are people that will enjoy this book very much. I wish the author the best of luck.
I’m usually more of a fantasy reader, but thought I would give this set in the future suspenseful book a chance, and it did not disappoint. There are so many twists and turns, just when you think you know what’s about to happen, the story switches up and goes a different direction. I thoroughly enjoyed this story and can’t wait for more!
