Aurora McClure would like nothing more than to march into Parson Preston Clay’s church and give him a kiss that would knock him into the next county. But since she’s not that kind of woman, and he’s shown little inclination toward her, she’s decided to run instead. Leaving town will be infinitely better than remaining where she will need to continue fighting her feelings. If only she had peace about the decision! Parson Preston Clay sits at his desk and glares at newcomer Kane Carver, who’s just asked for permission to call on Aurora McClure. His jaw aches. He’s been suffocating his feelings for Aurora for years because his calling requires long hours with low pay and it’s not the kind of job for a family man. Yet . . . staring at Kane, he realizes if he doesn’t act, he might lose Aurora forever. But just when he sets aside his hesitations, a woman from his past—his distant and nefarious past—rides into town. And though he’s far from the same man he once was, she hasn’t changed a bit. She thinks he’s running a con and wants him to use his safecracking skills to help her break into the bank. When he refuses, how far will she go to ensure his cooperation? And how much will Preston be willing to compromise when she takes Aurora captive? In the darkest hours of the night, he desperately cries out to the only One who can help him. The One who gives songs in the night.
Take the next stagecoach to Wyldhaven, where the coffee's perked hot, the sheriff likes his apple pie fresh from the oven, and adventure invariably waits just around the next river bend.
LYNNETTE BONNER, the daughter of missionaries, was born and raised in Malawi, Africa, graduated high school from Rift Valley Academy, a boarding school in Kenya, and attended Northwest University in Washington, where she met her husband, Marty. A few years after their marriage, they moved to Pierce, Idaho. While studying the history of their little town, Lynnette was inspired to begin The Shepherd’s Heart Series with Rocky Mountain Oasis. Marty and Lynnette have four children and currently live in Washington, where Marty pastors a church.
This is the first book I’ve read from Lynnette Bonner. The story was well thought out and entertaining to read. I liked the characters in the story and their descriptions and dialogue created strong images in my mind. It was satisfying to see the characters work through their problems while relying on faith and prayer for the best outcome. This was an enjoyable read.
Parson Preston Clay made some bad decisions when he was young. Even though he has changed, the past caught up with him. Beautiful and former business associate, Poppy Scarlatti, arrives in the small town of Wydlhaven expecting Preston to help her. No matter what she has devised is illegal, she wants his expertise and will stop at nothing to get him to take part in her plans of stealing the town’s money.
Preston’s faith and resolve are tested as he must stand up to Poppy and at the same time protect Aurora McClure, the woman who has come to mean so much to him. Watching him continue to stand fast in his convictions and share his past with the townsfolk took a great deal of courage and was what I admired most about him. Poppy’s deception and greed made this an interesting story and I was glad to see what happens to all of her scheming.
I enjoyed seeing Preston and Aurora’s relationship grow throughout the book. There were additional subplots of other couples that I think will be fun to see what develops in additional installments. While this can be read as a stand alone, I found there were several details that I missed since I have not read all of the other books in the series. I am interested in reading the backstory of Aurora and others mentioned.
One detail that Ms. Bonner shares at the end of the story was how she arrived at the title for her book. I loved the part of the book where Aurora found her courage and believed God would see her through the frightening experience in which she was placed. A video link to the hymn, How Can I keep from Singing is provided and I thoroughly enjoyed watching and listening to it.
I recommend you read this interesting, uplifting and faith-building book. Thank you to the author for an advanced copy of the book. I was not required to write a positive review. All opinions expressed are my own.
The more I read of Lynnette Bonner's writing the more I fall in love with her works. Songs in the Night is an absolutely amazing book. Not only does it entertain you, it enlightens you and feels you with an understanding of God's love. I enjoy the way there are multiple stories being told and you get to see it all unfold. The main story is about Parson Clay, a reserved man of the cloth who keeps his feelings for Aurora McClure well hidden. But in the small town of Wyldhaven where everyone knows everyone's business Aurora is the only one he has hidden his feelings from. This book is romantic in the classic sense. It is like a hug that wraps around you and envelopes you. I read this book practically in one sitting because it was so good I couldn't put it down. I can't wait for the next installment!
Several great stories in 1 book! This was my first book by this author and now I want to read all the books in this series. This can be read as stand alone like I did. The main focus of the book was on Aurora and Preston's relationship.
There are multiple POV in the book which surprised me at first because I thought it'd be the main characters, but the author did a wonderful job with the different POV'S, which is saying something because that would be hard to most people to do that at all.
I liked the characters, the setting and the adventure in this story. I don't read many books from this setting so it was a nice and different read for me.
Highly recommend!
I received an advanced readers copy of this book. All the opinions in the review are my own.
I absolutely devoured this book! It’s action keeps your blood pumping, the romance keeps your heart sighing, and the characters simply win you over. I would definitely recommend this book and author! I hope you enjoy!!
Great redemption story with endearing characters and an emotionally charged plot. This is a fantastic series, really enjoyed it. Glad I found this in Kindle Unlimited. Happy reading!
I loved the story. But I had to work to a catch up on the characters since I had not read any of this series. But now I also want to read some of the prior stories. Strong characters that come alive. This is definitely a book that those who enjoy historical romance would enjoy. I received a copy of this book but all opinions are my own.
I have enjoyed this series immensely. All of the books include the key citizens of Wyldhaven, living thei own lives, interacting with each other, but each book focuses mainly on one or two characters, which really allows you to get to "know" them well. I also love that all of them are drenched in biblical truth.
Aurora and the Pastor's story, told in this book, is very sweet. After years of pining away for each other they finally start expressing their feelings for one another--and that's when everything starts happening. The author has a talent for weaving all of this town's characters in and out of the main story so that you feel like you come away with multiple stories instead of just one. I want to live in Wyldhaven! Well, maybe without the outlaws, the kidnappings, the gun fights... but then again, that only adds to the excitement, right?
My favorite part of this book is how God is present throughout. Scripture is referred to in a way that applies to the story. Characters live out a life of faith, as shown by their actions. They falter, they struggle, but in the end faith wins out and God shows up. The themes most prevalent in this story were those of trusting God with all our concerns, and rejoicing in all circumstances, and knowing that we can call out to God and expect Him to hear us and act on our prayers.
AND it's always a win-win when the "bad guys" get their dues!
Wonderful story of redemption, family, love, and of course a villain or three. All this is happening within a small town with a pastor who has secrets of his own. The main female character, Aurora, is struggling with God’s will for her life. She doesn’t have the since of peace she should have about where she is heading. The characters were always seeking God’s guidance in what they needed to do. I loved the spiritual aspect to the story. It even gave me a chance to reflect on my own life and my walk with Christ, which is certainly a plus. Plans for a bank robbery, kidnapping and a false conversion add spice and mystery to it all. The story title was perfect and to know the author changed the scripture in reference to what she had originally thought added to the beauty of the telling and her leading by the Holy Spirit. What more could one ask? I received a complimentary copy of this book from the author but was not required to write a review.
Believing that her love for Parson Preston Clay is not returned, Aurora McClure plans to leave town and further her music education. Preston is far from indifferent to Aurora. With the demands on his time and his low pay, Preston doesn't think that he should marry. Just when Preston is ready to open his heart to Aurora, his past in the form of the daughter of a Boston mob shows up in town. Poppy has plans to utilize Preston in her nefarious schemes and she won't let anything or anyone get in her way. I received a free copy of this ebook from the author. This is my honest and voluntarily given review. I love this sweet Christian western romance. Even though this is the first book that I have read in the series, I thoroughly enjoyed this book as a standalone. I love how Preston and Aurora are well rounded characters and I thought their relationship is very believable. I love how Psalm 77 is intertwined in the story when divine help is desperately needed. There are also so many interesting secondary characters that enrich the story. I enjoyed reading the book so much that I have picked up earlier books in the series that I plan on reading. soon.
This was my first experience reading something by Ms. Bonner, so I wasn't sure what to expect. After reading this, I would really love to go back and read all the ones I've missed. While the book can be read as a standalone, I feel I probably would have enjoyed it more had I read the previous ones. The story was clean, sweet, and entertaining and kept my interest all the way till the end. Ms. Bonner has crafted a beautiful story in which relationships have a chance to develop and grow, and where faith and trust are tested. The story and characters were really brought to life through the creative storytelling and detailed descriptions. The characters were well-developed and endearing and I really enjoyed seeing Preston and Aurora grow closer. The story was well-placed and flowed smoothly. This is a heartwarming story that will lift your spirits and put a smile on your face.
I received a complimentary advanced reader's copy from the author and am voluntarily leaving my review.
A reluctant pastor with a history that comes for a visit, just as he's finally looking towards his future. New babies, new decisions, sudden revelations, prayer battles, and "fruit inspections" (the Bible says you can tell the truth of a conversion by the fruits of life after conversion). Power, greed, desperation, misunderstanding, and the things that made the West wild, and that prove the tyoe of violence may change but criminal sin never goes away unless lives and hearts are changed. The faithfulness of a childlike mind. And a question - if a dog knows a person, wouldn't it have made sense - since before slavery ended, dogs were used to go after fugitive slaves - that a dog could be used to track a lost or kidnapped person? More budding romances, more than one wedding, and a few missed and unexpected connections, and another saga in Wyldhaven.
Trusting God in every circumstance of life or even in the shadow of death is paramount in faith!
This story shows the very foundation of faith that flows through each of the Christian followers depicted in this tale of love and impossible dreams. As the reader, I was given renewed strength in my own life storms to know the power of the Creator who loves us beyond measure. Seeking God's will in life circumstances is all important in the life of believers and prayer is never to be ignored in every situation. The story shines the light of scriptures to bring truth to bare witness as it truly is.
This story in this series is the most hopeful and uplifting yet. The scripture, the faith challenges are very realistic and encouraging to any believer in their own walk with the Lord. I appreciate that this story, though fraught with hard circumstance is less violent overall than a couple of others in the series. The author gives such vivid descriptive scenes and succinct vocabulary, I had an easy time envisioning the characters and hearing their voices in my own imagination.
I absolutely love this series! Songs in the Night is about Aurora's and Parson Clay's hidden feelings for one another. They've had quite an unusual relationship from the very beginning, and now that Aurora has the chance to leave Wyldhaven, Parson Clay needs to either step up the game or walk away. Unfortunately amidst the drama of it all, a woman from the Parson's past arrives in town with nefarious plans of her own. Lots of twists and turns. I absolutely LOVE how some Songs in the Night save Aurora! I wholeheartedly recommend this entire series.
I loved this book! It was a wonderful read with just enough drama, suspense and romance to keep you turning the pages. The author brought the story to life with her words and you felt like you were there. If you are a fan of Christian historical romance you don't want to miss this book. I received a complimentary copy and was not required to write a review. All opinions expressed are my own and I hope you enjoy this book as much as I did.
This is my first Lynnette Bonner story and I am really impressed! I really enjoyed Preston and Aurora’s story. Pastor Clay had a prior life he really didn’t talk about but it all made him the man he is today. However, when that past life shows up in town in the person of Poppy Scarlatti, Preston doesn’t know what to think. Aurora thinks Preston is just not interested, so she plans to attend the music conservatory. As Poppy puts her plan into action there are some suspenseful moments. Loved this town and the people! Highly recommend! I received an advance copy of this book from the author, however, I voluntarily wrote an honest review. All opinions are strictly my own.
This has been a great series and I was happy to return to Wyldhaven. While this book easily stands on its own, it does help to understand the relationship between Aurora and Parson Clay if you've read earlier books. Every story really needs a villain and Poppy makes a good one in a beautiful package. We get the perfect amount of romance, humor, tension, villainy and surprises, twists and turns.
You can have a song in your heart in the night. After every mile, after every trial. Anyone can sing when the sun is shining bright, but you need a song in your heart at night. This words above are from a song in the hymnal at my Pastor Daddy’s church which we sang quite often thru my childhood. Praise God for those songs.
I love this series. I think the development of each character in the series is fantastic. I feel as though Tommy has characteristics of Lenny from Steinbeck’s “Of Mice and Men”, who was one of my favorites from all great literary pieces I have read. I can wait to continue reading and I dread when the series ends. Highly recommend this series for its plots and characters, but also for the strong Christian themes.
Songs in the Night is a wonderful story of the old west town of Wyldhaven! After several books in this series, the residents of Wyldhaven are like old friends. Pastor Preston Clay doesn't think he should be having thoughts of love about the attractive church pianist! Aurora has about given up on Pastor Preston ever paying any attention to her! Life gets tense when a woman from Preston's pre-salvation days comes to town! Lynnette Bonner has written a great story about the power of quoting God's Word! I recommend Songs in the Night to anyone who enjoys historical fiction. I received a complimentary e-book from the author. This is my honest opinion.
Another hit in the Wyldhaven series. Aurora McClure has loved Parson Clay since forever. He can't get beyond the idea that he hasn't much to offer a wife. Impasse. Then his past catches up with him and Aurora goes missing. It seems hopeless. Only God can intervene. Loved this story and I'm looking forward to the next one!
I really enjoyed yet another one of Bonner's books. She writes clean romance, intriguing mystery, and historical settings - all in one fantastic book. Her characters are everyday people you could sit down and have a chat with. I am thankful to find Christian authors who give you something to read without all the smut.
I enjoyed the book! The book showed that through faith and trust in God along with prayer, God will give you peace with what will happen in the future. This book is part of a series. It can be read standalone but I would recommend reading the first 4 books in the series before reading this one. I highly recommend reading this book!
Mrs Bonner writes great stories with intriguing characters. The stories weave in the challenges people face in everyday life. Each character deals with faith in Jesus Christ and God on a personal level in ways the readers can relate too. I thoroughly enjoy this series.
I love this author,s writing. She shows so much imagination in creating her characters. She Leeadsher characters on such creative adventures eating heal her characters so that they focus on the Mai characters throughout these series. Can’t wait to read the next adventure!
This is an excellent book. I have enjoyed each of the Wyldhaven books - each one is different, but this one just might be the best so far. I really liked the hymn she included and the link to it on YouTube she had in her information at the end of the story. I googled it and found the hymn was written in 1860. I hope to get the rest of the series. (I don't remember how I got this one.)
These books are always my go back to books to listen to. Cozy, uplifting, western, and I don’t have to worry about any smut or curse words. Faith is the theme of each one, and there’s always a sweet romance. I love the characters, like Tommy! My one complaint was that Poppi was supposed to be Italian but sounded Russian. 😆
Full of twists and turns, once again Ms Bonner does not disappoint in providing a story I couldn’t put down. I love the emphasis on putting full trust and faith in the God who saves. Well done!!!
I love this series! This was the first book in the series that I read and it was so good I had to get the rest of the series. The characters are realistic and relatable. The stories are artfully woven and keep your attention the whole time. Highly recommend!
