Spicy Level: 🌶️🌶️/5

This is one of my most anticipated books of 2024 and while I absolutely loved it and LOVED the fact that this was the culmination of everything that we've been gearing towards; namely that epic war between the Fates, Elves, Nymphs and Humans... I can't help but be a little disappointed.

PREPARE FOR A LONG ONE... It's what you get when it's the final book in one of my all-time favourite series...

TL;DR - Read this series! She is good.

NOTE: This is the final book in the Fate and Flame series and cannot be read out of order. There might be spoilers for the previous books. If you don't want to see them, please stop reading. If you do it's either because you do not care about spoilers or you have already read the previous books...

If you're like me and you read this book exactly a year ago and also happened to read about 100 books in between, I would highly recommend that you go back to book 3 and read the last 15%. (If you do not do a full reread of course). It reminds you about where we are in the story and what events happened to lead to the start of Book 4, as this picks up immediately after the events of Book 3.

𝙎𝙮𝙣𝙤𝙥𝙨𝙞𝙨:
Where we find our characters...
1. Queen Neilina is Dead and Romeria finds herself another throne and she has dragons as "pets"
2. Malachai and Sophie are back, with Malachai possessing Elijah's Body.
3. The blood curse has been lifted and everyone who was affected no longer craves blood to survive
4. Atticus is missing and presumed dead.
5. Tyree has kidnapped Annika and after a mutiny by the captain who sailed them out of Cirilea, they find themselves transported by Sirens to a distant land
6. War is coming with new and tenuous alliances formed to face the eventual battle against a Fate.

𝙏𝙝𝙤𝙪𝙜𝙝𝙩𝙨 𝙖𝙣𝙙 𝙁𝙚𝙚𝙡𝙞𝙣𝙜𝙨:
Wow, talk about taking the world-building to a whole new level. While the world and the lore were already pretty well formed (given that you have had the three books which were able to lay the foundation and flesh it out right from the start) there is a new notch it is taken to. We see more about the Nymphs and who or what they are. We discover a whole kingdom thought to be myth (and that is not Ulysede), we unpack more of the Queen for All's prophecy and we learn more about who the Fates are and their vindictive and spiteful nature. I loved how seamless the introduction of the Nymphs was to the story and applauded the foundation that has been built to their entry. You can see and feel the care and meticulous plotting and planning K.A. Tucker has done from the start to flesh out this series from the start of book 1.

I really loved that Romeria challenged Xander a little little bit more in this. I always felt that she was too quick to just let him bully and dominate her with his opinion in the previous books, so now that she is a Queen and his equal (actually higher as she has two kingdoms and Zander technically has "none"). It was the growth I needed to see her.

If you do not like books with political intrigue, this is not the book for you. There is A LOT OF POLITICS and discussions and negotiations and conferences that all have a "political nature", from kingdom negotiations to treaties to deals across nations and realms. IF this is not something you enjoy... BUT this is book 4 - it's not that much different to the politics in those and if you read those you already know what you are getting yourself into...

This book does take a turn into dark... even more dark than I think the previous books and almost all of this is seen through Sophie's POV and her interactions with Malechai. He is cruel, twisted and vindictive. A manipulative and violent bastard. His presence and actions take this fantasy into realms of uncomfortable and disturbing. All I wanted was for him to die a slow, painful and agonising death for the abuse and treatment of Sophie and everyone around him.

I ADORED that this introduced another romance. Zander and Romy are already together, Attitus and Gracen had their moment in book 3... THIS IS ALL ABOUT THE INCREDIBLE TRANSITION from enemies to lovers between Tyree and Annika. Their banter and bickering were superb, their attraction magnetic and explosive and the push and pull between the two of them was absolute perfection. I kept finding myself wanting to go back to their chapters because the tension between the two of them is what romantasy is made of! That epic culmination of when will they finally come together and how explosive will it be. I will NEVER LOOK AT HONEY THE SAME WAY AGAIN!

One of the main problems I have on why this was a little disappointing is that the pace felt a little off. The beginning was incredibly slow, and because there are so many points of view, (Something very often seen in more traditional fantasy than general romantic) you're dividing your time amongst different people's points of view. So the story moves slowly because you're only shown a small little bit at a time, and just when something gets exciting from one point of view, you are thrown into another person's perspective, and you have to read a whole bunch of chapters before you go back to that part of the story you really want to see (mostly Tyree and Annika), and this happens a lot.

Now while it felt like those first ~75 chapters took a while to get through, then everything just speeds up really, really quickly and feels like the ending is very rushed. The book kind of resolves itself only in the last 10%, and for something that has built up to such a big conclusion and has taken so long to get there, to just resolve it that quickly felt very anticlimactic. It felt unfair to everything that these characters have been through and how they developed to have it over in a couple of sentences...

The ending also only has one POV "epilogue" of Romy, which sums up all the other characters, and I would have loved to see a little bit more of their endings, especially since we have grown and travelled with them and their POV's from the start.

And finally what REALLY disappointed me was there were so many things that were not wrapped up. Given that this is the last book, I don't know if I'll ever have answers. There are rumours that there will be a spin-off, but it's probably going to take an entire year for that to get written, and it's going to follow a different character (HOPEFULLY JAREK and LUCRETIA) so I don't know if I'm going to get that "pretty resolution bow" on everything that I wanted.

My list of unanswered questions:

Now for the "General Discussion" on other things I didn't like....
1. Jarek deserves so much better. THE STORY WAS hinting, I mean there were all the signs that the relationship between her and Jarek was going to get cleared up NICELY. There were so many moments in the previous books where I almost wanted her to end up with Jarek as he was so much more devoted to her. I loved the banter between them, and I loved how close the two got together. But it just felt incredibly mean and selfish of Romy to lead him on. He just seemed to be the punchline to every joke and seemed to get the short end of every stick. I'm really hoping that he's the main character of the spin-off series, because I want him to have his happy ever after, and I want him to meet his soulmate, even if it is Lucretia.
2. Aspects of the plot that just felt awfully convenient, like eye-rollingly convenient.

But as much as I'm complaining, I'm complaining because I love this series so much. I adored being back in Islor. I adored being back with these characters. I loved watching them grow, make mistakes, and redeem themselves and I suffered through all their trials and tribulations. I wanted them all to succeed (except Malachi and Sophie.)

𝙏𝙧𝙤𝙥𝙚𝙨:
▶ Multi POV
▶ Epic Fantasy
▶ Touch Her You Die
▶ Burn The World For You
▶ Meddling Gods
▶ Elves, Humans, Dragons, Demons and Nymphs
▶ Intricate Worldbuilding with Elemental Magic
▶ Prophecy
▶ Political Intrigue
▶ Enemies to Lovers
▶ One Bed/One Horse

I keep saying to anybody who will listen to me that this series is one of my ALL TIME FAVOURITES. It has played a big role in the definition of who I am as a reader. It has shaped my taste and what I love seeing in a book. It literally has everything I look for, from the characters to the world-building, to the plot, to the magnificent writing. It's because of this, that I'm a little bit harsh, because I have grown with the series. I have read it for three years, and I'm so sad that it's over, but I can't wait to see what K.A. Tucker comes out with next.

Thank you to K.A Tucker and Valentine PR for my gifted copy.

While I don’t think the last two books in the series have been as strong as the first two, I’m pretty satisfied with the ending, but it could have been better.

I was surprised that I found Romeria’s POV to be pretty uninteresting out of the six we got in this book. She is our main character and while she has grown into her role as a queen and cares deeply for her people, I feel like she lost a bit of her resourcefulness. For most of the book, she was just demanding answers from others and gathering information. She didn’t problem solve and was constantly given powerful objects to solve her problems. She didn’t have a very proactive or fulfilling story arc in my opinion, which was a bit disappointing.

Atticus’s storyline also suffered from similar issues. His chapters were just so boring. He has been sort of the vilain in the last two books and he did not redeem himself at all in my eyes. Where was the grovelling? In the previous book, he also had a romance brewing with Gracen, which I thought was really sweet, but it was nonexistent here. Atticus was constantly being seduced by another woman and while they didn’t have sex, he was constantly having thoughts about it. It just ruined the romance the author created between him and Gracen in book three. I like a man who is loyal, thank you🤦🏻‍♀️

Zander and Romeria’s love for each other stayed strong in this one. Nothing could break them apart, but they sadly didn’t get many moments together. Their romance has honestly been stale since book three. It’s like the author didn’t know what to do with them now that they’re together. She also threw in some weird love triangle with Jarek, but it was so unnecessary and it wasn’t even resolved properly. We are just given these hints that Jarek has unrequited feelings for Romeria, but there is never a proper conversation between them about his feelings. I also wasn’t a fan of how Zander and Jarek kind of fell to the background. It felt like they didn’t really have any roles. They were basically just involved in strategic discussions or just there to protect Romeria.

What did I enjoy about this book then? Annika and Tyree! I absolutely loved their enemies to lovers romance. The constant bickering and sexual tension between them was honestly the highlight of the book for me. They really hated each other in the beginning and it was so fun to watch them go at it. They were without a doubt the stars of the book for me and I looked forward to all their chapters together.

Sofie’s chapters were so hard to read. For centuries, she has been repeatedly abused by Malachi and my heart ached for her. I was disgusted by Malachi and was very uncomfortable with all he did to Sofie. Just revolting. Throughout the book, I was praying she would find peace after all she has been through.

As for the plot, it was a bit repetitive. With six POVs, having to read the same information being shared with all the characters several times got annoying after a while. The final battle was also rushed and anticlimactic. Malachi is set up to be this all powerful being and he was so easily defeated it’s laughable.

Overall, I still enjoyed this book despite my issues with it and if the author were to put out a spin-off series, I will definitely be reading it.

I absolutely loved this series overall, but I was definitely ready for this book to end. There was so much politics and planning for war - I couldn't follow all of the world-building anymore. There was so much politics in this book that it took me a month to read. This series went from being a romantasy to being a pure fantasy. Each book has added a new main romance to focus on after the first couple books focused on Romeria and Zander. The third book focused on Atticus and Gracen, and then this book's only romance was between Tyree and Annika. The fact that Atticus and Gracen had no on-page-time together in this entire 700+ page book makes me wonder how if there was a 5th book, would Annika and Tyree's relationship be abandoned just as quickly?

Tyree and Jarek were my favorite characters by far. Tyree's flirty banter was the best part of this book, and I loved how he won over Annika. I was a little confused about their whole storyline with the kalana (like, they were in another world? unclear), but it was neither here nor there. I just wish that they could've saved themselves and contributed to the ending battle. I wanted more scenes of Tyree and Annika with the other characters. I feel cheated that it didn't really happen until like the literal last couple chapters of the book. I felt like Tyree and Annika had the best story in this book, but the ending of their adventure was so abrupt and rushed.

Jarek is probably my favorite from the entire series - my heart hurts for him. I was low-key shipping him to end up with Romeria (even though that was never going to happen). Tbh, I could see Zander sacrificing Romeria for his realm (even though he repeatedly says he would not - I just think Zander is a fucking robot), but I could never see Jarek doing that - his only loyalty was to Romeria and it was the sweetest thing. Zander and Romeria were so boring by the end; all they talked about was the war, and then they'd have rushed sex.

Malachi's demise was also far too quick, and it didn't feel satisfying. Like, is he dead now just because his mortal body was attacked? It seemed like he would find another body to occupy but I'm not really sure. It was very confusing. Everyone seemed to have every single affinity suddenly. I couldn't keep track of who had powers and who didn't. I also couldn't picture what any of the creatures were supposed to look like. I'm not sure if the saur'groth (or whatever they were called) or the Shadows were ever described in this book unless I skimmed over it. Are they humanoid?

As mentioned, I was weirded out that Gracen and Atticus's relationship was essentially abandoned in this book. Gracen had no chapters and had almost no scenes. The introduction of Satoria as a character made Atticus seem like a skeeze, and she served no purpose. She was just a homewrecker trying to wreck the romance that I grew to love in book 3 that was essentially forgotten in this story. I hated Satoria and it made me hate Atticus still in a book that was supposed to have his redemption arc.

The scribes and the mordain storyline took up so much time and space for the first half of this book, and then it was 100% completely pointless for the last half of the book. I wish it wasn't included at all.

That said, I really enjoyed this series. I was just a bit disappointed by this ending. However, I'd still recommend it. It's an interesting and unique world. There are some really excellent characters in here. Also, KA Tucker writes EXCELLENT smut.

---

OH MY GOD. I completely lost track of the date, but this book just came out, and I'm sooo excited! One of my favorite fantasy romance series 🥰 lfg

*taps microphone* HERE’S A FRESHLY COMPLETED FANTASIC FANTASY SERIES TO ADD TO YOUR TBRS!!

if you didn’t hear me when i reviewed the first book, the second book, or the third book — i come to you now having read the beautiful, multi-POV finale (with epic battles and gods and magic and romance and DRAGONS) to tell you as loudly as possible: PICK THIS SERIES UP IF YOU’RE A FANTASY FAN.

i’ve said it once and i’ll say it again — this is the most underrated fantasy series out there right now — and this installment (THE LAST ONE!) just proves it over and over again. an epic, sweeping finale to a story that has had me by the throat for 4 years now, tying together the threads of meddling gods and goddesses, elves, curses, with our FMC — a new york street thief who finds herself dropped in the middle of all of this — at the center of the story, the queen for all — mortal, caster, and elven.

this installment picks up right at the end of thieves and chaos, but introduces even more POVs, a new romance, an entirely new continent (!!!!!!), and yet still manages to tie it all together in a deeply satisfying way by the end.

my only grievance here is that it simply wasn’t long enough — but i maintain hope that we’ll see more in this world with new characters at the helm. (brb, lighting every manifestation candle i have that KA never stops writing fantasy because oh my god she is so good at it!!!!!)

beautiful, exhilarating, and complex in a way that will feed any fantasy lover. run to pick up book one and then join me in my campaign to beg KA tucker for more in this universe.

thank you to valentine PR for the opportunity to read an early copy!

Simmered enough, this is a 4✨, feels like 5 ☄️ written like 3.5 🌠
I honestly didn't know how to rate this.
To put things to rest, do I recommend you read this series?
YESSSS, RUN and do it!

Using 4 words: Dawn is as light as it is heavy, and as underwhelming as it is fulfilling.

My confliction stems from how different this book was from the ones before.
It was incredibly rich. And just like the previous book, this was 744 pages packed with action.
There are even more worldbuilding and new systems that we get to learn, opening us up to new realms and kingdoms.
There is so much friendship, alliances, respect, and blossoming love.

Now, my rant (no [minor minor idea] spoilers).
I mean K.A. Tucker herself wrote the sentence
"It is a poetic—if not anticlimactic—end..."
If I stop and think about it for a minute, the ending is so realistically real.
And for that, I am pissed, yes [just a tiny bit]. 😂 But it's also strikingly on point.

I have so much left unanswered, and I hope, beg, and pray for both the Fates and Nymphs that K.A. Tucker gives us 3 additional novellas in this world:
1 & 2- Elisaf and Jarek - and Lucretia yes yes yes- (I've been wanting novellas for them since Book 2)
3- Cahill
Novellas for all 3 would tie down all my loose ends and "holes." Plus, give us all the richness of this amazing world.

⚠️ I might come back to edit this review. minor additions
I still want a glossary and maybe a register linked to the map.
Also, WHERE is Ulysede on the map??

So, I loved this series, was really rooting for it to blow up more because the magic system and world building was SO different and SO well done IMO. The political intrigue I love in a fantasy novel also delivered in this series.

BUT - The romance of Zander and Romy again fell flat for me. I honestly was shipping her and Jarek more, they had way more chemistry and tension. Which is so sad, I loved Zander and Romy in the beginning of the series !

I also don't know why we did so much character development and introduction in this last book and I wasn't even into Annika and Tyree 😭

I will say I enjoyed Atticus, and he was my redeeming quality. He is such a complex character, loved his POVs and moments.

The battle was okay. Didn't wow me for such a great deal of build up.

The amount of plotholes is just kinda leaving me with a yucky feeling.

I hate to say most of this book I was bored. I also feel like it doesn't help that there was SUCH a gap in between books, I felt like it took the steam out everything too.

Ohhh man. As the conclusion to a story I was enthralled with, I really wanted to love this book. Unfortunately, I did not, for a few big reasons. First, it was so incredibly slow and dry. The constant changing of POVs kept bringing any momentum to a grinding halt. But then, she just sped through the ending so fast! It didn’t make any sense. Second, so many contradictions!! It felt like the author didn’t even revisit the original trilogy before writing this. Third, huge character inconsistencies, especially with Tyree. His character in this book was so completely different from books 1-3 without any explanation for the change.

All in all, I’m giving it two stars because it had a happy ending and I’m glad to send off the characters I love into happiness and peace. But man, this conclusion just really sucked.

Romeria says it best on pg 520 “it is a poetic- if not anticlimactic- end for the fate of fire.”

Like, what was that??! I knew when there was only like 60 pages left and they were only just heading into the last battle that I was probably going to be left disappointed but wow.

And, ok, I do want to talk about the battle but first I need to talk about Jarek. The author fumbled the bag on this soooo hard!! Zander became boring and controlling and honestly besides sleeping with her and giving her some political advice I didn’t see where he did anything for her as a person. Maybe my expectations were too high cause I wanted whatever curse was put on them which gave him no choice but to love her to be broken and then she and jarek could get together. He’s who she looked to when she needed reassurance, he was there to make her laugh, help her, defend her, and remind her who she was. And not only did she not end up with him but they never even talked about his obvious feelings for her??! The way he was in love with her original face and Zander had never even seen it before. We couldn’t even get a tense moment of possibility or a confession or anything?? UGH. I could cry.

I went into this book so excited, there were so many places to take the story from where we left off in book 3 and I kept turning the pages trusting all the convoluted plots to get us somewhere interesting but no. We never got gracens pov again. I thought the fact that her baby was the first caster born to islor in 2000 years would be a big deal but it wasn’t. The issue of her mortal lifespan vs atticus’ immortal one was never addressed. How are you gonna make me care abt a character and then barely mention her again?!

And don’t even get me started on Atticus!! Who I have loved up until the weird thing with the kings wife in this book. I get that he and gracen didnt have a lot of time with each other before they were separated to be super devoted to each other but he came off so pervy in this book and pissed me off. Like if I was gracen and I knew what he was doing and thinking I’d be so mad. Where’s the groveling??

The thing with the light and dark and weird conjurers was too much to add into the last book. Either she needed to leave it out or expand the series to develop it further. Aofie not even being a problem for 2 pages after building her up to be some big threat KILLED me. What was the point of any of that?

And the horn was the biggest cop out of all time. The blurb on the back of the book says “but with power comes betrayal and sacrifices must be made.” There were no betrayals and no sacrifices to be had.

In the end I felt like the things that needed to carry weight, didn’t i.e the main relationships from the first three books, the fates, the giant battle. And things that didn’t need to carry weight at all carried way too much i.e. the other countries involved like Kier and Udrel, tyree and Annika, the conjurers, etc.

2 stars only cause of how much I’ve enjoyed the other books.

⚔️ Multi POV
🩷 Final Battle
⚔️ True Enemies to Lovers
🩷 Politics and Scheming
⚔️ Mythical Creatures

I absolutely LOVE this series, but honestly, I'm a little bit disappointed by this final installment.

There is a lot of worldbuilding, character, and lore development in this final book, and... it's too much for the final book in a series.

I loved the introduction of a true enemies-to-lovers plot line between two of our characters ~ it was sticky and sweet like honey *nudge nudge*. The banter was phenomenal. However, this plot line happened separately from the main plot.

This book starts out as an incredibly slow burn, but obviously, that's because it's building up to a completely epic finale, right? Right?! Please tell me I'm right...

But alas, I was wrong. The ending feels rushed (almost as if it was hastily put together to meet a deadline), and the final battle is anticlimactic. Some plot resolutions felt too convenient, and it was all over before it had the chance to begin. Minor plot lines are left unresolved (like a love triangle situation that felt unfair, ultimately).

Romeria (FMC) lost some of her spark in this book. I found Zander (MMC) irritating, but thankfully, they both played a smaller role in this book. However, the overall character wrap-up felt incomplete: many beloved characters received an unsatisfactory ending.

I've learned that there might be a spin-off, and I'd love for that to happen; I feel like it could bring some more fleshed-out resolutions and insight into some of the other characters without being revolved around Zander and Romeria's main story.

I know this review sounds critical, but it's still a VERY GOOD story. I love the world that K.A. Tucker has created. I think I had just hoped for a much bigger impact and satisfying ending because I adored this series so much. Unfortunately, it all feels a little bit incomplete, stunting the emotional impact.

~

One final note: Elizabeth Klett does an absolutely fantastic job as the narrator and I thoroughly enjoyed these books via audio.

I don't know if I have the words to describe how I feel about the end of this series. It was exciting, nerve-wracking, hilarious, frustrating, and heart-wrenching all at the same time. I have said it once and will keep saying it, but this series is one of the most underrated romantasy series ever. KA Tucker, I will read anything you write! She has such a way of writing her characters that you are wholly invested in every single one of them, and you feel as though you are going through what they're going through. I'm still not ready to say goodbye to this series, and I am BEGGING for a spin-off 😉

Thank you so much to KA Tucker and Valentine PR for kindly sending me an advanced copy to read! I am forever grateful!

Uh, what happened here? Either my memory deceives me or this book was far more juvenile than the previous 3. After book 2, I was 100% reading for more Jarek so I feel very unsatisfied by the conversation that never happened. How did we just completely ignore that?

I loved this and honestly, I'm sad to be leaving Romeria and Zander. Who am I kidding? I'm sad to be leaving them all. I grew to love Atticus and even Tyree. I loved Annika, Elisaf, Jarek, Gracen and Kazimir. There are more that I'm forgetting, but this was a great series that I'm sad has ended.

I loved this world and am so glad the author took a chance on something fantasy. I really hope that she writes more because she did a great job.

I may come back and update this with more, but I'm feeling a few things after finishing this and not sure how to put it in words exactly.

Characters
FMC- Romeria Queen of All, strong, fierce
Jarek and the Sylx- now thats a side story I would read- the sexual tension between them is 😍 but I know his heart belongs to Romy
Annika- Zanders sister- loved her enemies to lovers relationship with Tyree
MMC- Zander- fallen prince, full steam ahead 🔥
Atticus- Zanders brother- usurper prince, this character grew on me throughout the series, he came into his own with this last
Book
Malachi- obnoxious egotistical asshat Fate

Thoughts
📚 ** SPOILER** For me Romy parents dying felt rushed and underwhelming, I appreciate the attempt at ending their thread of the story though
📚 Guilded doe prophecy - felt that needed more explaining or maybe I just missed something
📚 Highly bingeable- finished it in one sitting
📚 Loved how Tucker explored religion through the followers of Shadow and Light vs those who believe in Nymph’s and Fate- it was intriguing to hear how once lands split so too did their theological beliefs
📚 I seamlessly fell back into this world and the characters , it felt soo right
📚 Ending- well, it wasnt what I expected- after all of the other skirmishes and fights I was expecting something more catastrophic, Romy and Zander fought hard for their happily ever after

Overall
A great romantasy series sure to please readers looking to fill the void of Fourth Wing/Iron Flame.

Thanks to the author and @valentine_pr for my digital copy in return for an honest review. Opinions expressed are my own.

A Dawn of Gods & Fury is the fourth and final book in the Fate & Flame fantasy series by K.A. Tucker. This is a continuing story and the books must be read in order.

This is the conclusion to the series. Will Romeria and Zander triumph over evil?

The book had POVs from the last book: Romeria, Zander and Atticus. But it also featured some others: Annika, Sofie and Tyree.

This was a long book. I struggle with fantasy books. I don't visualize when I read. And I tend not to enjoy battles. So I found the beginning of this book to be quite complicated. There were so many POVs and so much happening. I connect a lot more to the characters and the romance.

I was a bit sad that my favorite POV from the third book Gracen was not included in this book. Her romance with Atticus was my favorite part of that book. I do understand why this wasn't a focal point of this book (the characters were in two different locations). Instead we get a new romance to focus on Annika (Zander and Atticus' sister) and Tyree (the Ybarisan prince). I absolutely loved their part of the story. Also I am obsessed with dragons. So I enjoyed that part of the book a lot.

The battle and trying to defeat Malachi was a huge part of the story. So if you enjoy epic showdowns this will be for you.

Overall I really connected to so many of the characters. And I really enjoyed all 3 of the main romances. This was such an action-packed story. And I did think that it had a satisfying ending. It was just too focused on battles for me.

“Remember who you are, and do not hesitate to remind anyone who forgets”.

Where do I begin 😩

First off, I’d like to thank K.A. Tucker & Valentine PR for this ARC. I am so grateful, thankful, blessed!!!!

Sigh, I love this series so much. (Seriously, so much - I named my cat Zander.)

ANYWAYS.

The way K.A. Tucker can build such an intricate fantasy world is immensely impressive. There are so many fantasy novels these days, and the plots seem to all be the same - but that is not the case with this series. We’re on book 4, and I am still impressed. I am still completely captivated with the characters, the PLOT (amazing), and storytelling.

Some authors spend too much time going over every single thing that happens in the last book, but I appreciate that Tucker gave us just enough info to remind us, without taking away from the plot of this new book itself.

The romance?? I was giggling and kicking my feet!!!

The suspense?? I’m not a nail biter, but it was a close one!!

I’m so, so sad this series is over, but WHAT A WAY TO GO OUT! It’ll definitely be one I’ll be re-reading over and over again. Bow down to the new fantasy queen 🙌🏼 can’t wait to see what books you bring us next 🤍

Wow wow wow what a stunning conclusion to an epic series.

I’m going to keep this review short, because I cannot talk about the plot without spoilers so I will just say I loved it! It was everything I wanted it to be. Told in many POVs, we finally get the answers to the questions that have been building throughout the series. We also get action and adventure, humor and sadness, love and war.

It is a thick book, with a lot of chapters, but it moved really quickly for me as I was dying to find out what would happen.

I’m not a romantasy fan in general, but I’ve honestly enjoyed this journey so much and I will happily read whatever KA Tucker writes!

P.s. I need more Jarek in my life

Disappointing tbh. I feel like this series was so good but the last book did not stick the landing - the climax was action packed but the "solution" to deal with the big bad was the biggest deus ex machina I have ever read. Literally saved by the whims of the fates by asking the two non-power obsessed ones nicely enough.

The party themselves say they will stop letting the fates' whims determine their world - and then you see the ending lol...what a load of hogwash. The villains literally turn to dust over a whistle.

Most of the things Romeria&co. did in the book was completely pointless to the final battle. Book could've been a lot shorter if this was the intended final result. I don't think the book was too long for this type of series, but the things it chose to focus on were completely meaningless looking back.

I could literally make a list of dropped plot points and loose threads that go nowhere (some of which were introduced IN this book....)
- Romeria and her parents/original world?
- How the co-existence ever occurs in this world? Especially after Malachi kills like 50% of Islor in his reign
- Raping of the women by Malachi's army and the demon offspring
- Anything to do with the elementals and scribes (whatever they learn from the library/scribes is inconsequential after finishing the book). Even the characters say they didn't achieve anything meaningful with the scribe's perusual of the library. I felt like I was being made fun of by the author lol.
- Entirety of Urdrel and their curse
- Aoife's goal
- Nymph's future
- Conjurer's role lol. Tuella and Destry just show up to info dump and have omniscient eyes. I thought for the longest time that Tuella was meant to betray Romeria&co. to Urdrel - but instead I get a boring plot device as a character. Finished the book but I still don't know why Tuella OR Destry was putting their lives on the line to help the heroes.
- Lucretia was also too OP and felt like a get-out-of-jail card when the party needs info or immediate resolution to problems lol. Saves key characters and no one can counter her invisibility and dream powers.
- Atticus and his entire lack of grovelling/repenting. He is given shit for maybe 2 chapters by Zander before everything is under the rug with the occassional snide comment.
- Kier's motivation for joining seemingly coming out of nowhere just to get Atticus a quick army and get into Zander's good graces fast
- Wendeline's entire existence in this book. She could have not appeared and nothing would have changed about this book.
- Their attempt at a truce with Sofie (what a waste of pages that was... all it amounted to was pointless melodrama over thinking Annika died for a whole 5 pages... when we immediately jump to Annika's pov so all the tension is gone.)
Etc...

Even the last chapter introduces all these ideas that there is a lot of unresolved things (which is fine, not every story needs a neat bow) but it felt like Mrs Tucker just ran out of time or steam by the end...

The only real "mystery" that felt resolved was Elijah and Sofie's story.

All the problems that plagued the previous 3 books become completely inconsequential in this book (that introduces a bunch of new problems). It felt like I was reading a different series altogether. Here are the plot points that felt dropped in this book, that made me fall in love with the previous books:
- Islor vs. Ybaris
- blood curse
- Co-existence of elvens and humans
- Adley and his rebellion
- all semblence of political intrigue and stealth

Romance was pretty half baked.
Hated the love triangle between Zander/Romeria/Jarek. Thankfully it was one-sided for Jarek. I hate how authors always have to shoehorn a completely useless love triangle into fantasy books because it is "expected." But Zander/Romeria have gotten so boring. The constant rehash of Zander being overprotective and overbearing but Romeria doing whatever she wants anyways... so again, pointless conflict.

Atticus and Gracen was good in book 3. Doesn't exist in this book. Instead, more time is spent on Atticus bringing up his past sexual conquests and current sexscapade propositions that never come to fruition because he is SO in-lurve with Gracen (who has 1-2 speaking lines this whole book lol....)

Why the good review?
1. I liked the enemies-to-lover because Tyree and Annika, even if it was insta-love. Their banter was cute. It helps that you get to see their relationships bloom between both povs. But yeah, their journey was completely pointless too LOL. In the end, Tyree/Annika kill Aoife....but she wasn't even meant to do anything? Aoife had only 1 chapter to shine and accomplished 0 terrors in it. Aoife was alive at the start of the chapter, then I blinked, and she was dead again by the end of the same chapter lmfao. I should've guessed that the payoff of Aoife's character was going to be as poorly executed as Queen Neilina's death in book 3.

2. Nostalgia over why I liked the previous books in the series. It does highlight how bad the resolution was...

Looking back, I think each book had a highlight couple.
Book 1&2 = Romeria/Zander
Book 3 = Atticus/Gracen
Book 4 = Tyree/Annika.

Unfortunately, after their respective books, the couple either grows stale/complacent/boring/non-existent, but since I have fond memories of who they once were, I will give it 3.5 stars.

But after writing my thoughts out in this review, this book probably deserves at best a 2-2.5* due to the deadends/redundant plot/poor payoff. Oh well, I did love book 1-3.

As they say, the higher you fly, the harder you fall. 🤷‍♀️

What an epic ending to an amazing series. The last chapter when “you know who” got what was coming to her 😏
