Great Spirit Horse

Rate this book
Horses were an important part of the Plains Indians' nomadic existence and inspired many Native American myths. The greatest of these was Sunka Wakan, the blue-eyed spotted stallion that possessed great powers. Linda Little Wolf presents the legend of Sunka Wakan, the Great Spirit Horse, as an exciting tale of life on the Great Plains.

Reread this as a nostalgic childhood fav. It’s a fun story thats written for a young audience — as an adult, it’s extremely elementary even for middle grade, animals are way too personified for my taste, and plot is really underdeveloped/rushed throughout. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Written for younger readers, quite elementary in some parts. I thoroughly enjoyed reading the story of the first blue eyed paint horse though. My horse, his ancestor, RAINA carries his spirit.
