It's really nice to see two people actually admit they like each other early on in a series.
This time we get to see the girls help Ogami pick out a bathing suit. It's pretty cute volume with the showcase of woman being kind to each other, and not a "jealous so much I hate them" bullshit they try to pull. The sister is also Hilarious. Some good stuff all around.

This is such a fun little romp. Our MCs are opening up about their feelings and the side characters are adding to the story develoment.

The summer looms and Ogami and Yaginuma’s off-kilter friendship sees them spending a lot of time together. With Yaginuma’s curse bringing out the most hidden thoughts in a horny teenage girl, it could be a very touching summer, or not, or in one way but not necessarily the other.
There’s something wonderfully goofy about how cringe this story gets with Yaginuma’s ability being combined with Ogami’s lustful hormones stirring in his direction. It’s hard not to feel bad for both of them - they’re both new at this and Ogami’s inability to handle her desires is bouncing off Yaginuma’s tendency to withdraw because of said ability.
Yes, if you cannot handle the horrible awkward of it all, things get no better this volume. This is peak embarrassment theatre the whole way and a testament to the power of communication and understanding, plus the unending nightmare of puberty and certain types of shellfish.
The story makes a lot of really sharp moves, honestly, that keep it going at a nice pace and give it a bit more oomph. For one, the art is pretty much perfect and that helps a lot. Ogami is very self-conscious of her body and there is a noticeable difference between how she is drawn versus the supposedly hot girls in her class.
Which isn’t to say that means anything, but in her over-critical mind it does. She’s still very much in Yaginuma’s wheelhouse, probably, although he has a deadly hard time actually communicating. But fear of total abandonment will do that to you.
If there’s a message in this particular volume, besides the woes that involve coming from Planet Boob (this made me laugh pretty hard), it’s about having some confidence that you aren’t actually a bad person for your needs.
Ogami shames herself for her swimsuit in a way nobody else does, Yaginuma assumes that things just can’t work when even a hint of difficulty crops up. It’s all a bit sad, even if there’s a lot of reason behind it. The amount of self-sabotage is shocking; Ogami would have piles of friends if she wasn’t so hard on herself.
The rest of the story is the usual stuff - beach trips, shared part-time work, ridiculous older sisters (she is a treasure and a half - great character), so many misunderstandings - plus the unusual hilarity brought forth by Yaginuma’s power. It adds a bit of spice to a meal that has been served many times before (admittedly one I am typically okay with if it’s presented as well as it is here).
Yes, the word ‘weiner’ is uttered once more. Maybe twice. So many moments go so far south it’s not even funny (okay, fine, it is), and Ogami picks the worst moments to raise her voice sometimes. It’s a good gag, but it’s also a nice extra wrinkle that our leads have to deal with on the way to a relationship.
I’m impressed with how this is going and I also really like the animal motif that wasn’t obvious to the non-native speaker, but the notes helpfully explained and, boy, once you see it you cannot unsee it. It’s emblematic of the care beneath the horny silliness.
4 stars - this is great, although I feel it still has its best moments to come, especially now that things have really taken a turn at the end of the volume, so we’ll keep it at 4 stars for now.

This is so cute, and funny, all with a little side of high school dirty humor. What a good time and I am so ready for more.

More of a 3.5 star rating; I read this volume before it’s official English release thanks to fan-translated online scans.
I really enjoyed seeing Ogami and Yaginuma spend time together with their friends at the beach, and overall seeing their dynamics involving characters apart from each other. I’m really liking Nezu’s friendship with Ogami and am very curious about her as a character, especially after she touched Yaginuma and revealed a secret of hers. It was also adorable seeing Yaginuma asking Matsukuma for advice and seeing their friendship in this volume. Something amusing yet lovely that also happened in this volume, was Ogami meeting Yaginuma’s elder sister. I hope the sister shows up more in the overall story.

This has got to be the first rom-com that I have read where the two people actually beginning going out so early lol. Not that I am complaining, I am ecstatic! She is hilarious and her thoughts cause her tons of problems and that makes you a lot of the comedic episodes. Sad to know this is only seven volumes long.

the geoduck reference is never going away is it 🤣🤣 this series cracks me up!! not quite as strong as the first volume but only because I feel like the pacing is moving rather quickly…still though, I definitely want to know where this goes next!

This series is annoying in that the concept of being unable to hide your thoughts from someone is interesting, but all the unnecessary fan service cheapens the story. One moment I feel like an interesting question is being posed, but then the story turns to absurdity.

Too funny
It's still really wholesome and the characters keep you on your toes. Looking forward to volume three! Now they're official!
