Trying his hand at legitimate business ownership hasn’t always gone the way Maddox planned. The ex-motorcycle club enforcer experienced his share of ups and downs before finally achieving success. Now he’s opening a specialty grocery store and outdoor market in the small town of Foggy Basin, and he’s itching to get back to the part enjoys most: crafting the recipes for the newest products that will grace their shelves.
Unfortunately, Maddox's first few days in Foggy Basin haven't been the best. His motorcycle was involved in a hit and run, and the damage was extensive. The mechanic at the local shop isn’t the friendliest and yet he's found himself engaging more and more with Haven as he works on restoring the ‘67 Harley Electra Glide back to its previously pristine condition. In between homemade Chinese food and Hoagies, Maddox begins to glimpse a side of Haven the younger man didn’t know he had, but the jury is still out on whether Haven will trust him enough to let him past the walls he’s erected to keep himself safe.
Featuring a gruff but nurturing Daddy, a hesitant little, supportive sibling, some judgy townsfolk, a German Sheppard who doubles as a lapdog, an arrogant ally cat who sits everywhere but on laps and a stunning secret reveal that will impact the siblings in ways they never imagined.
Welcome to Foggy Basin. Just passing through? No problem. Here to stay, well, better find your place. Sit back, relax and get to know the townsfolk. They love hard and play even harder. Each book is a standalone but why not stay and get to know us and read them all.
LAYLA DORINE lives among the sprawling prairies of Midwestern America, in a house with more cats than people. She loves hiking, fishing, swimming, martial arts, camping out, photography, cooking, and dabbling with several artistic mediums. In addition, she loves to travel and visit museums, historic, and haunted places.
Layla got hooked on writing as a child, starting with poetry and then branching out, and she hasn’t stopped writing since. Hard times, troubled times, the lives of her characters are never easy, but then what life is? The story is in the struggle, the journey, the triumphs and the falls. She writes about artists, musicians, loners, drifters, dreamers, hippies, bikers, truckers, hunters and all the other folks that she’s met and fallen in love with over the years. Sometimes she writes urban romance and sometimes its aliens crash landing near a roadside bar. When she isn’t writing, or wandering somewhere outdoors, she can often be found curled up with a good book and a kitty on her lap.
The idea behind the story was the basis for my three stars - I liked it. But the reason I kept two stars? I had a hard time reading with all of the spelling, grammar, and punctuation errors. I spent almost as much time reporting them through Kindle as I did reading.
FOGGY BASIN is a very small town. It's residents want it to stay that way but understand that life continues to expand. LAYLA DORINE has put forward two men with troubled pasts. Maddox is a growly former Biker who has brought his business here. Haven is mechanic who after a long stint away, is trying to make up for lost time. When they meet over his damaged motorcycle something begins to take root. I Loved the dynamic of these men together. Capture the magic that seems to surround this small corner of the world. This is a series written by Multiple INCREDIBLY Talented Authors. Each Book is a standalone. The common theme is small town life. I HIGHLY RECOMMEND THIS BOOK AND THIS FOGGY BASIN SERIES!!!!!!!!!!
audio update Jaxon Jensen has such a soothing tone that just draws you in and has you enjoy yhe ride. He brings the right growl to Maddox while still bringing a hopeful innocence to Haven. Just a beautiful relaxing listen definitely to be added to my want to relax and enjoy listening pile.
When Maddox lands in Foggy Basin to start up a new dispensary with his business partner Archer hes not ready for all the past that comes with it. Haven having just been released from prison isn't ready to let anyone in especially someone connected to his older brother. The draw is too much that these two cannot step out of each other's orbits. The connection of a love for bikes draws them together when Maddox ride is slaughtered. Together they work on moving from their pasts to not look back but thrive for what is to come. I cannot say enough on how much I adored these men's connection and the family they do what needs ro be done for. Looking forward to see more from this universe.
DNF 26%. It's just not to my taste. There was entirely too much text about cars and motorcycles and repairs and parts and mechanic stuff and I just have zero interest. I could not have cared less that he had some kind of old motorcycle that got run over. (Beyond, wow, annoying.) I also thought Maddox seemed like a bit of an asshole and I while I appreciated Haven's predicament (although I never read far enough to find out the real deal), I just didn't care if they ever got together and too much weed chat on top of the car stuff. So just not my cup of tea. *shrug*
What can I say only that this book wasn’t for me. To much car or mc talk. A theme I never really got. A family dynamic that was wired and a story that was just off.
This book is a fine bland of family drama, friendship and romance. I enjoyed the slow developing romance between Maddox and Haven. Some issues were left unsolved, which wasn't nice.
Well written story and well developed characters! This book sucked me in and didn't let go until the end! I couldn't put it down and was late getting supper!
The story of Maddox and Haven. They meet when Maddox takes his motorbike into Haven's shop after it is in a hit and run. However, the story turns into a daddy relationship and so I skimmed the sexy scenes and anything with the daddy dynamic.
