Some topics should be researched only theoretically. This particular one being one of those this rule applies to. Which is a convoluted way to say "bad research topic to experiment on".
Otherwise this was a decent book, but I prefer the first one in the series.

Intriguing!

Dak and CJ are planning their wedding, but it is interrupted when Dak gets involved with a bunch of murder cases that appear unrelated but she can’t help thinking there is something connecting them. When she starts working through possibilities her time is taken and time with CJ is more limited than ever, but it’s a race against the clock if she is going to save whoever the next victim might be.

I loved the way this adventure for Dak was set up, using different points of view and a very clever premise for the serial killer, meant Dak was on her toes looking for clues. At the same time, as the reader we were getting insight but not enough to be clear what might be happening next. Yet it was thought-provoking and a really interesting way to present the serial killer character.

Without revealing too much about the main storyline, I loved the personal questions presented both to Dak and CJ for their careers and their future together. There was lots for them both to consider and work out both alone and together, and even though they didn’t get to spend much time together, I think this really strengthened their relationship because they had to work on trust and their understanding of one another.

A most intriguing mystery, and another racing dark adventure for Dak. Can’t wait to find out what the future has in store for them.

Dead Ringer by Robyn Nyx is a heart-pounding Suspense Thriller that will keep you on the edge of your seat. The story was so well-crafted that I couldn't tear my eyes away, constantly surprised by the unexpected twists and turns that made for an adrenaline-filled plot.

Dak Farrell, an FBI agent, plans her wedding to her beloved partner Callie (CJ) Johnson. Her focus is interrupted by a series of murders that have an unsettling connection, which soon becomes apparent to Dak.

Even though it is part of the Dak Farrell: FBI Romantic Suspense Thrillers series, this book can be read independently. In addition to the thrills and action, Robyn skillfully weaves an unquestionable chemistry between Dak and CJ in this fast-paced adventure. This is a book that I would definitely recommend to others.

Ok, I liked this one better than the first book in the series, Dead Pretty.
This one focused more on the crime solving abilities of Dak and her hunt for a copycat serial killer. The brief moments of CJ and her pov, thankfully showed us a more mature version of the character, which contributed to my overall experience.

The author did great work on book 2 having multiple issues crop up from all sides almost cornering the main character. Heaps of new characters but the story remained loyal to the its core. I was also fascinated by the case itself. Almost wanting to know how the experiment turned out. It’s a fresh take on a serial killer MO and I love it. Can’t wait for book 3.

I was so happy when I read this last line of the book, "The end of this story, but not the end of their story. Dak Farrell will return in Dead Right." Robyn Nyx had me captivated from the beginning.

This fast-paced novel kept me on my toes, with twists and turns. One of the things I enjoy most of the authors style is the way we get into the mind of the adversary along with the MCs. I didn't realize I missed it from Dead Pretty until I was reading Dead Ringer.

The chemistry between the MCs is as explosive as it was in the first book. The wit, banter, and connection of the characters is felt deep in the soul. I look forward to the next installment of Dead Right.

I loved getting to know Dak and CJ in Dead Pretty, so it was fantastic to see their love deepen on the page in this gripping sequel.

Dak is once again the strong, handsome hero of this thrilling crime novel. This time around she is back at work pursuing two murder cases. The main action is terrifying and disturbing in equal parts and if you like crime novels, it’s right up your LA boulevard.

Both Dak and CJ bounce off a great supporting cast. My favourite was Detective Weaver and I was rooting for her to make her mark on the case.

There are also a few familiar faces if you’re a fan of Robyn Nyx. It was lovely to see Elodie Fontaine and her partner back too.

This is an intriguing detective novel, full of suspense. It will have you turning the page well into the dark hours to find out what sort of twists are around the corner.

Unlike a typical serial killer, Dead Ringer keeps a journal in which he explains why he views his actions as a scientific endeavour.
The process of assembling the team was enjoyable, and I felt like I was a part of it. The writing that addressed social issues in a subtle way without drawing attention to itself was also brilliant.
I suggest starting with Dead Pretty.
I'm not sure how I feel about this story. Either this is a search for a serial killer combined with soft porn , or soft porn and murders. The black lacy strap on seems like a potential solution.

4.5 ⭐️ Let’s see - a ripped, romantic, sapphic FBI serial killer hunter … I mean come on, damn!

As book 2 of the Dak Farrell: FBI Romantic Suspense Thrillers series, I actually enjoyed this book even more than the first, but highly recommend reading Dead Pretty (book 1) prior to picking this one up.

The main suspense storyline of “the hunt” was great in that it wasn’t single threaded. I don’t want to give anything away, but suffice it to say that rarely do any of us have the luxury of being able to focus solely on one thing … Dak certainly doesn’t! Complications, and lots of case juggling and relationship juggling kept me wondering when one of the spinning plates was going to crash and shatter.

Something that was really unique was the shifting of perspectives between Dak and the actual serial killer! Didn’t expect that. I was expecting Dak and CJ … but to have a running view of the world from the serial killer’s eyes - yikes.

The romance / relationship element between Dak and CJ was a little light for me, but overall it was a great read.

Thank you for the opportunity to read the ARC!!

Awaiting the arrival of the latest Dak Farrell thriller is comparable to awaiting the return of your favourite TV show post-Hollywood strikes; arduous but always worth the wait.

Read in one sitting; what I genuinely love when Robyn Nyx pens a romantic suspense thriller is the precise delivery of each of those parts; she perfectly balances the romance and suspense elements of Dead Ringer and as a result, the story sizzles to a dangerously red hot crescendo.

Following on from the events of Dead Pretty, Special Agent Dak Farrell and her fiancee CJ begin in earnest to embark upon their lives together. But as each adjusts to changes in their respective careers, alongside re-connecting with family, and planning their future wedding, their seemingly picture-perfect tapestry begins to show signs of fraying under the pressure.

When trying to catch a serial killer, one who seemingly has no motive or consistent modus operandi becomes one of those strains, Dak struggles to balance her passion for the job with her deep and loving commitment to CJ and their future. Building on Dead Pretty, Nyx doesn't stray from giving readers a ton of fun and spiciness between the sculpted and handsomely butch Dak, and the equally hot femme CJ. Instead, Nyx beautifully builds on that exciting foundation, exploring the complexities of joining two lives together and highlighting the value of true communication.

Throughout the story Dak and CJ are told from the third person point of view, but, what makes Dead Ringer stand out from the crowded arena of romantic thrillers is that the serial killer is narrated in the first person. The juxtaposition of these viewpoints is ingenious, creating a thoroughly unusual and exhilarating reading experience. Leave it to Nyx to actualize a very real way for a reader to experience both the clinical nature of this scientist-come serial killer, and their altogether highly divergent moral compass.

As always Nyx introduces a stellar cast of supporting characters; some you'll root for (Detective Weaver), some you'll love to hate (Detective Miller, Pat Wolf (totally appropriate surname)), and others who will terrify and delightfully mystify you in equal measures (Ice). Without giving any spoilers another aspect of Dead Ringer that is fabulous, and ups the enjoyment for lovers of suspense/thriller novels, is there are not just one but two cases for Dak Farrell to sink her teeth into; three if you count the (as yet) unsolved disappearance of Special Agent Kimbal.

Altogether another standout story from Nyx, which epitomises the very best qualities of a first-rate romantic suspense thriller novel. All that's left to say is - I cannot wait for book three!!!

NB. You don't need to have read Dead Pretty to pick up and appreciate Dead Ringer, but doing so anyway would be highly recommended!

An absolute killer of a thriller!

Dead Ringer is a thriller that will set your heart racing as you follow the story through, never wanting to put the book down in case you miss something. It features Dak Farrell, FBI agent and her girlfriend CJ Johnson as they plan their wedding, and the murders that interrupt what should be a magical time for them. The story continues from Dead Pretty with Dak recovering from her injuries and CJ working out her plans for her new series. Each have their moments wondering about the future.

The thriller element is a real gem from Nyx, as she maneuvers the story between the diary of the killer and how Dak Farrell deals with what she finds. She has to cope with misogynistic colleagues and events that seem to stack against her at the start whilst worrying about CJ and their lives together.

The secondary characters of Detectives Miller and Weaver are priceless as they show how partnerships between senior male homicide detectives and fresh out of the box female detectives manage to work. Nyx has got their relationship perfectly and as it relates in many real-life detective partnerships.

As the story moves along the characters grow and change with the events, and it is testament to Nyx that she manages all the different threads expertly and left me at the end wishing Book 3 was already available.

NOTE: This is the second book in the series, but it can be read stand-alone (although I suggest you read Dead Pretty as it will give you so much more depth to the characters and extra background). Plus it’s a really good read, and you don’t want to miss it.

Living Life while Dealing with Murder

Dead Ringer brings us into the mind of a man convinced that he is undertaking important scientific research by conducting specific murders to ascertain whether a murderer can be made, and he has plans to reverse the process to see if the murderer can then be unmade.

Thus when a series of seemingly unrelated murders spark both FBI Special Agent Dax and Homicide Detective Weaver's attention that something intrinsically connects them, it takes a while to figure out why, and then Dax has to convince her boss that there is another serial killer in their city that needs to be stopped besides the killer of HS girls who seems to have taken a hiatus for the past several months before eluding detection for more than a year.

Robyn Nyx smoothly follows every thread as she weaves an engaging complex story with complicated intriguing characters.

Besides these murder cases, there is a wedding between Dax and her finance CJ in the planning stages and their parents want to be very hands-on especially since their relationships need healing. Weaver is struggling with bullying from her detective partner, which causes her to anxiously try to prove herself while looking to Dax for affirmation. As well, CJ and Dax's careers add another layer of stress.

Thank you for the ARC, which captured and held my interest from the first chapter until the last page. I thoroughly enjoyed it and I'm voluntarily leaving an honest review.

Dead Ringer by Robyn Nyx is a romantic suspense thriller that kept me on the edge of my seat from the first sentence to the last page. This book is the sequel to Dead Pretty which I consider to be one of Nyx’s best works, but she has outdone herself with Dead Ringer.

FBI agent Dak Farrell followed her fiancée and celebrity mortician Callie “CJ” Johnson to the city of Angels. Between wedding plans and visits from the future in-laws Dak tries to find her place in her new home and the local field office she joined to be close to CJ. But it doesn’t take long before a series of seemingly unrelated murders attract Dak’s attention and her instinct to hunt bad guys is ignited. Will Dak’s dedication to her job jeopardize her relationship with CJ or can their love keep the monsters at bay?

Robyn Nyx’s writing is engaging and fast-paced. It kept me reading long into the night more than one. Robyn Nyx’s talent for weaving suspense-filled and engaging stories with immense character depth shows on every page of this book. I love that she has built a cast of multifaceted characters not only in this story, but she created and develops her story universe and characters to interact across the boundaries of their individual storylines. So, if you love Nyx’s work, you can look forward to meeting some of them again. I’m looking forward to reading more of Dak Farrell in the future.

Normally, when I love a book, I can't put it down. Dead Ringer is perhaps the single exception.

Not only did I love this book, but I found it so compelling at times that I simply had to put it down in order to allow the growing tension in my body to dissipate before continuing to read.

So often in the sapphic crime/mystery/thriller genre, the character of the killer is poorly illustrated for the reader, in favour of filling out a romantic storyline between the protagonist and her love interest. Nyx ignores that trend and shoots for an antagonist worthy of a NY Times bestselling thriller... and she doesn't miss.

As an avid true crime enthusiast, and a prolific reader of crime thriller novels, I found the storyline captivating, and the way Nyx had me questioning my own moral compass throughout was uncomfortable and addictive.

The characters are all endearing and complex enough without being all consuming, and whether you read book one in the series first or not, you will love reading book two. My only complaint? Book three isn't ready to read now.

Must read for anyone who enjoys mystery and crime thrillers, this book will have you on the edge of your seat as the story twists and turns throughout.

While Dead Ringer is second in a series it works fine as a standalone read. I did read Dead Pretty first, which I thoroughly enjoyed, because I wanted the entire backstory on CJ and Dak and their love story before starting Dead Ringer so while it's not necessary to read I would highly recommend.

Dead Ringer is an amazing follow-up in this thrilling series. Dak and CJ are newly engaged and now living in LA together. Dak is returning to active duty FBI work instead of cold cases while CJ is set to start filming her revived show for Netflix although she's having reservations in the direction the show is now taking. They're in the midst of planning their wedding and adjusting to their new normal when Dak stumbles upon a chilling serial killer case. This book had me hooked from beginning to end. Robyn Nyx balances the suspense aspect of the case so well with the romance aspect while also developing well-rounded supporting characters. The reader is even given insight into the killer through journal entries dispersed throughout the book which I thought was a unique approach. Book three can't come soon enough!

Robyn Nyx has written a phenomenal novel in Dead Ringer!
The author did not disappoint and wrote another page turner!

Dak and Callie (CJ) are back and planning their wedding. Without giving any spoilers, I will only say that the dialogue presented between differing sides of the spectrum is done very well and presents both sides of the coin in a very understandable way.
The characters are strong & the plot flows smoothly.

Dak & CJ are surrounded by family trying to make up for lost time by helping them plan their wedding. Dak is working long hours out of the local FBI office trying to solve murders before more occur. CJ is fixing to go on the road with her show & they have very little time together.

Once again I was up late reading this novel. With each page I turned, more details were given on Dak’s cases and I couldn’t put the book down, I had to see what happens next!

This is a must read if you enjoy mysteries and Robyn Nyx doesn’t disappoint writing mysteries and page turners.

A New Year, a New Author and now a new series to be added to my TBR list!

Dead Ringer by Robyn Nyx is the second book featuring Dak Farrell. Dak’s wedding plans are interrupted by murder and ones that all seem to be unrelated, but as the bodies start to mount up, Dak’s feelings that there is more than meets the eye becomes harder to ignore and now she has to join in the killer’s games to find out why they’re doing what they’re doing before its too late but at what cost?

This was a great twist and turn read, allowing us to get into the mind of a killer, whilst also into the mind of the person trying to catch them.

Dak’s relationship with CJ also becomes more complex as they balance, life, families and their own commitment to each other and this also adds to the ‘real life’ feel of the story where everything isn’t tied in a bow. Additional supporting characters strengthen the story and add to the sense of camaraderie throughout the suspense and intrigue and adds some lighter moments to the story.

Dead Ringer is a sequel to Dead Pretty but can be read as a standalone book but I highly recommend you read both!
Dead Ringer gives us insight into the would be serial killers thoughts as to why they are planning/doing what they are doing. Then we are also following Dak and CJ who are settling into their relationship and planning a wedding while Dak is trying to get ahead of the killer while settling back into working live cases with a partner.
The book is multi faceted thriller by the way it’s been written, with its insights into MC’s lives past and present, their hopes and dreams for the future with a great supporting cast of characters and an Easter Egg throw in as well. Plus just enough romance and sex without overshadowing the book being a really interesting thriller.
Put this all together and you have a really great read.
Thanks to Robyn Nyx and Butterworth Books for the ARC - this is my honest review.

Dak Farrell, an FBI agent, has finally decided to propose to the love of her life, Callie (CJ) Johnson. Now there is a wedding to plan, but that might be put on hold when Dak receives a new possible serial killer case. Dak has been working cold cases after being shot and stabbed in a previous case, but is eager to start working live cases again. As we read, we are introduced to the serial killer who has a scientific basis for the killing and keeps a journal. The killer didn’t count on Dak who is able to determine the pattern, but will she be able to stop the killer before too many more lives are lost? Not having read the first book, I think the author was able to provide enough back story so that I was able to enjoy the interaction and love between Dak and CJ and this intriguing mystery. Wow! This was a ride.

Special Agent Dak is investigating a series of murders and slowly begins to realize the killer has no set modus operandi. The murders all seem to be random, too random. She soon figures out the plan and has to determine who the killer is and how to stop him/her before the next victim.

The killer definitely has a plan, and we are able to be taken along as the plans are made and as he/she decides who will be next. I enjoyed the storyline and the ability to know both Dak and the killer's thoughts and reasonings.

While it is a murder/mystery/crime/thriller novel, there is a lot of sex. This could be labeled as LGBTQ or mention of violent sexual content. The scenes are, for the most part, relevant to the crimes and/or the relationship between Dak and her fiancé.

I was given the opportunity to read this book by NetGalley, in exchange for an honest review.

A real page turner. FBI Special Agent Dak Farrell and CJ, her girlfriend and soon to be fiancée, return to LA and pull us into the world of serial killers. Dak resumes her life in the FBI after healing from her injuries in the last story and CJ returns to the world of entertainments, a juxtaposition of cultures for sure. Throw in some family reunification and we have the makings of a fast paced story that is part physiological, part romance and part police procedural. Thankfully, while there is killing, it is not graphic for which I was thankful. Great cast of secondary characters include a definite Ice Queen (what is her story?) and friends from many parts of their lives. If you like action packed stories that keep you up reading at night, this is your book (and series). Good to know there is another story set in this arc in the works.

Loved this book!

This book picks up two months after Dead Pretty, Robyn Nyx’s first book in this sequel. I love suspense/ romance novels, and the way the author takes us into the mind of this serial killer wannabe and Dak’s thought process in solving these murders is magnificent!

Dak and CJ are planning their wedding, Dak is making major career decisions, and CJ isn’t sure of her own career path right now. They both know that no matter what, Dak and CJ will get through it because of their love for each other.

After Dak returns to the FBI, she is immediately submerged into solving several murder cases happening in Los Angeles that she thinks are linked in some way. Will she be able to figure out if they are?

CJ, a reality star from the show Dead Pretty, is learning that the direction she wants to take her renewed TV show is not what her producers want. Will she be able to find the joy of working in front of the camera again?

Dead Ringer is definitely a page turner from the first word and will keep you on the edge of your seat until the very end! Add in some humor and romance and you have the perfect book!

This is a sequel to the book "Dead Pretty" but it can also be read as a standalone. However, I would recommend reading both of them for the best experience.

Robyn did an excellent job developing the story, especially in writing romantic suspense. The story kept me on the edge of my seat the entire time. The balance between the romance and suspense was brilliantly done.

The opening of the book immediately draws you into the story and keeps you interested and invested until the very end. The pacing is well-done, and the writing is descriptive, making the characters come to life.

Overall, this is a must-read book, and I highly recommend it to anyone who enjoys romantic suspense.

Sensational

Serial killers and hot women. This series had it all, with terrific characters Dak and CJ they just jump of the pages and involve you in their amazing love story CJ especially upfront with her attraction to Dak, and she is more that happy to oblige 🔥 it certainly is. Book one is great, fast paced so has you guessing at every turn. Book 2 is so interesting with the well written journal of the killer and his motives, twisted logic. Other characters in this series are intriguing especially the obvious introduction of formidable Ice, can't wait to read where she appears along with the new Partner Hamilton. So happy that this is not the end of this series, hopefully not too long a wait for the next instalment. Not to mention more steamy scenes that await us.

Another great thriller from Robyn Nyx
Dak and CJ from Dead Pretty return with another serial killer on the loose. This time they’re juggling Dak’s decision to return to the field with their developing relationship and its demands.

The insight from the killer’s unusual viewpoint is fascinating and disturbing and adds to the suspense. The supporting characters are well drawn and I loved the appearances from Madison and Elodie (and Ice) from Let Love Be Enough.

A gripping read I’d highly recommend to fans of crime thrillers, especially if you like them accompanied by a strong, positive WLW relationship.

This second book in the Dak/CJ story is a good one. Robyn has written an interesting story that takes us literally into the mind of a killer. She has added new secondary characters to the mix that will make you smile and make you cringe.
The plot moves along at a good pace and she kept me reading to see what would happen next. It took awhile to get this one done, but it’s really worth the wait. I hope the next book doesn’t take as long to get to us. Grab this one if you’re looking for a romance/ thriller for an evening read.

Dead Ringer is a great mix of suspense, romance and law enforcement, and sapphic, of course! IT’s the second book in a series and while it is not a requirement, I would HIGHLY recommend reading the first book (Dead Pretty) first. It will only make you like the characters more.

Dak and CJ are interesting and well-developed characters that you pull for throughout the book. The writing is well done and will keep you up late to finish the story. Get this book (and the first in the series) as soon as you can. You will not be disappointed!

FBI agent Dak Farrell has proposed to her beloved CJ, but as they plan their wedding a new case has dropped into her lap.

A killer is on the loose, and each of his kills imitates another serial killer.

As Dak works the case CJ has her own work issues, and how busy they each are creates strains.

This is the second book in a series, but works as a stand alone. Dak and CJ are fleshed out well, along with their circle of friends. The segments from the killer's pov are chilling but interesting to read.
