“You cannot command a demon unless you have struck a deal with it, and we have not yet struck such a deal.” Elaine was meant to be the light for her people—the last of the Scions of Isa. But her goddess died long ago, and she is hunted for the inherent magic in her silver blood. After being condemned as a human sacrifice by Lord Dakin, a demon makes her a tempting counteroffer. If Elaine frees him from his prison, he will be hers to command. Demonlord Acies wants revenge just as much as he wants to escape from his prison cell. Elaine could be the key, and she’s a pretty one. But Acies' past haunts his present and the consequences of the war he once fought between gods and demons is never too far away. Wielding the power of demons can mean the difference between salvation and damnation … for both of them.

This book was a massively cool idea with a "eh" execution. There is a lot time between important moments where characters are just sort of fumbling around and talking about the same subjects. When the scenes/moments change, its very radical- it sort of feels like this was written serially VS all at once.
THAT SAID, demon romance, low burn, so much going for it!
Elaine is the last Scion of Isa. She is the last one alive who carries both Isa's blood and thus a remnant of her power. Unfortunately, she is being sacrificed in an attempt to make a bargain with Acies, the Demon Lord of War by a man named Dakin in order to gain power. However, it doesn't seem to work the way Dakin and the priests expect. And instead, Acies strikes a deal with Elaine that binds them together and saves her life.
Now, the Demon Lord of War is once again living in their world, and while most would assume that to be a bad thing, from what I as a reader can see, it may wind up being the only way to save their world from a great number of other threats. And just possibly, it may be the means of returning the goddess Isa to their world. The only problem with that hope currently, is that Acies wants revenge upon Isa for having imprisoned him in a void and leaving him there for centuries to die a slow death.
I received and read a review copy of this book. I really enjoyed reading this story and am expecting that there is much more going on than any of the characters realize. I can't wait to see what happens in the next book in this series. I have a few guesses about what will happen as well as what I think may have actually happened to both Acies and Isa, but they are just my guesses based on what I read in this book. As such, they could just as likely be wrong.
Either way, I am very much looking forward to getting the chance to read book 2 in this series to see how close or how far off my guesses wind up being. But I'm not going to spoil the story for you. You'll just need to pick up a copy and read it yourself if you want to know more.
If you enjoy epic fantasy involving gods and their descendants, magic, and demons, then I believe you'll enjoy this book.
Elaine is sacrificed to the Demon God by Lord Dakin; while disembodied, she meets this Demon (Acies), a proposal is made and it is accepted. Elaine is the Scion of a dead goddess (Isa) and has so-called silver blood. Maevra, her mother figure, thinks this will enable her to contact Isa, pass a test and receive a vision. Then, a quest will begin. Betrayal surrounds Elaine, though she, her brother (Elan), Acies and Maevra manoeuvre their way into a forest, where they meet another minor demon. There is a somewhat vampiric resurrection and things start to get seriously interesting! This is my second book by Megan Mackie (the previous one being the excellent and different dystopia of The Prisoner of the Dead - highly recommended) and goes to show that she can definitely write across genres, this being a fantasy novel (I suppose some would call it romantasy nowadays, but frankly that just sounds foolish to me). This story is very much character based, which is not to say there is no action, and it obviously is building towards something potentially very interesting. Bring on the second in the series, just remember this is when a demon is not the worst thing in the world!.

Silverblood Scion is the first book in the series by Megan Mackie, also my first book by this author. I enjoyed this book immensely. Elaine is a favorite/badass character. Someone who is supposed to be the answer for her people only to be hunted and sacrificed. But when a deal is set before her it is too good to overlook. Acies wants out of his prison and Elaine is his answer, but can he offer someone worthwhile to get her to help him?
The chemistry between Elaine and Acies is sizzling. The story is easy to follow if you enjoy multiple POVs. At times it is a a little hard to follow but once you get the characters sorted it all falls into place.

Silverblood Scion is a good first book of this new series of Fantasy Romance by author Megan Mackie. MFC Elaine is the last of her kind and coveted for the magic residing in her silver blood. As the story opens she is about to be sacrificed for evil purposes and this turn of events leads her to a savior MMC Demon Lord Acies whose help comes at a price. I enjoyed this adventure of intrigue, deities, action, and romance that is written well and was a spellbinding read.

Overall the book is good, however I did have a hard time reading this with the way the POV was written. It is a good start to the series and does have enough dynamics to make the story enjoyable.
I got the pleasure of getting this book recommended to me by the author at C2E2 (Chicago Comicon) this year and I'll treasure this book and experience forever. I was pretty hooked most of the book and it's easy to follow. For a fantasy book, it is pretty short and I got more and more nervous towards the end because I was worried there would be no resolution and the ending is kind of a cliffhanger..? The Demon Lord (any Nana fans out there? I thought this was funny) is such a mysterious character that I feel like I still don't know enough about him at the end of the book. "Are we going to find out what happened with Isa Kai?" was something I kept asking the universe the more I read and unfortunately went unanswered even now. I really thought the book was going to be about just Elaine and the Demon Lord, which I guess isn't wrong but the story took a turn I wasn't expecting. This book is just a sliver of an opening to what this world is, what's going on, and what happened in the past. I'm interested in reading more but not sure if there's a sequel!
