All my life I have been conditioned to be a good, pious girl. To respect God, honor my parents, and obey the man my family chooses for me. I am content with the fate I have been dealt.
Until him.
Pierce, the silver-haired devil, unlocks all of my deepest desires, and for the first time, I feel free. I begin to explore my true nature, completely unaware of the hidden danger lurking behind the facade of a loved one and a friend. When secrets are brought to light, and the ones I hold dear are caught in the crossfire, I am forced to make a sacrifice…
Is this where my life begins? Or ends?
Pierce
A hacker by trade, no secret is safe from me. I built an empire and now I have the world at my feet. I can have anything, and what I want is Zahra. Her innocence, her kindness, her pleasure – all of her belongs to me. Mine to corrupt. Mine to punish. Mine to love…When my past causes her damnation, my Angel hides from me. But I don’t plan to let her go. She was my redeemer; now I will be her salvation.
This is the first book I’ve read by this author and I couldn’t wait to read it! It goes into the world of BDSM from the viewpoint of a curvy woman and we see how she taps into her darker side with an older man who is in the dom/sub lifestyle. This romance is very dark and intense and who doesn’t love a good age gap! The plot within this book is absolutely fantastic as well and it was paced perfectly that I read it in one sitting. It does touch on some matters of a dark nature so I suggest reading the trigger warnings and even though there were twists and turns that I didn’t see coming, it made for a really great read!
From the very first page Salvation had me hooked, coming in strong with a trigger warning list that certainly isn't shy. CJ's work reminds us that no matter your darkness or demons, you're worthy of love too. This is a very spicy and dark book, please keep in mind that this is an anti-purity culture book. When they go to church it is NOT to pray if you get what I mean. 😎
If you're looking for a gentle and simple love this may not be for you, CJ writes with passion and you can feel it in every page. With well developed & diverse characters, excellent plot, and a pace you can't look away from, this read is definitely one for the shelf. However if you're looking for an enthralling read that will leave you desiring more look no further. 😉
Daddy knows best. 🖤
Please note as I said the TW/CW list is there for a reason and your mental health matters.
First, I really love the plus size representation. Being able to see yourself in a character is always a bonus that not all of us are afforded. Secondly, I love a good Age Gap. It’s one of my favorite tropes.
You get spice, trauma, and drama all wrapped in one with this story. It’s definitely a quicker read and reads fast paced. Something that will keep you interested the whole way.
I really loved Zahra and Pierce’s relationship. While there are elements of BDSM in here, it’s not the focus. Instead you see a character grow and transform and finally be loved the way that she deserves.
4⭐3🌶️ This was a great story by CJ Raine. Seeing Zahra’s evolution from the daughter of a preacher to a woman free of the confines of religion, discovering her sexual desires, a meek obedient girl, who then suffered through some of the most grueling trauma, and evolve into a strong woman thirsty for revenge was amazing. The romance and chemistry between Zahra and Pierce was spot on. This story had it all, romance, heat, action, trauma, suspense. Great read!! Make sure you check the trigger warnings as this is a dark romance story.
Zahra is the daughter of a preacher. Her whole life being about obedience, but when she finally discovers The Playground and the fun within, her life changes. Pierce works for the bad guys. A Daddy looking for someone to play with. But when he meets Zahra, he can’t ever look away. When they find themselves in the middle of a conflict between other people in their lives, Zahra becomes the victim of their vicious games, and Pierce must do anything and everything to get her back.
- [ ] CJ Motherfreaking Raine I knew at 12% this book was going to have me in a choke hold!! And when I say I couldn’t put it down I mean I couldn’t put it down!!!! - [ ] Zahra speaks to me as a person whose weight has gone up and down and has those insecurities and to see her character development to the badass that she turns into at the end yaaaasssssss!!!! I am here for it!! - [ ] I know this is a standalone but I would love to see what this new development of her and Pierce would look like - [ ] Pierce a man after my own heart!!! He just wants to worship his plus size goddess and protect her and will burn down the heavens and the earth to make that happen!!! Of course there is always drama and this book is a little dark. Please check the TW but man did I love the story, the plot, the twist and the turns!! And it was just the right amount of spicy. It’s not just down and smutty but it was spicy enough for everything going on!!
I'm torn with this book. It's definitely a 3.5⭐ and it started out really strong, but by the end, even with the twists and turns, it fell a little short for me and maybe it's because I've read so many books that don't gloss over the torment.
Having said that, it's a strong storyline about a woman who grew up as the Preacher's daughter but could never measure up. Most of her upbringing and hardships from her home life happen off page but alluded to enough that her parents were definitely not practicing what they preach. As an adult, her less sheltered friend brings her to a club called "The Playground" where it's a place for Daddy Doms and bratty or princess subs go to meet. It's there that Pierce falls hard and fast for the curvy woman who's strong on the outside but has those pieces inside that are broken.
Their love story is cute. For me the spice was 2.5 again not heavy on the interactions but enough to get the idea of how he cherished her.
They're both betrayed by people that are close to them and that's where things for me became rushed. Two days, flash ahead to months later with brief descriptions of the torment but enough to understand why things happen.
Overall a decent book, especially if you're looking for something darker but not pitch black. Definitely read the trigger and content warnings because the events that take place and briefly described could be triggering.
C.J. Raine had me hooked from the dedication page!! This book was EVERYTHING. This is my first dark romance, maybe even book period, that had a thick FMC. The FMC experiences a lot of trauma in her life, and I loved seeing her growth throughout the book. Daddy Pierce is oh my 🔥🥵 I loved his personality and how much he adores and worships Zahra. The spice in this book is amazing, but the plot twists were even better. I seriously ate this one up and highly recommend it if you love dark romance. Be sure to check the trigger warnings, as there is some heavy material! Very well done. Can't wait to read more from this author.
This was my first book by this author and I’m glad I found her post. I enjoyed the characters, the details in their backstories and growth. Definitely check the trigger warnings before reading as this is a dark romance. I look forward to reading more of her work in the future! I received an ARC copy in exchange for an honest review and am leaving this review voluntarily.
I wasn’t expecting the journey this book would take me on. We really do deserve more books with powerful black women, curvy women, interracial relationships… I love to see it & Salvation had me up at 1am in tears.
Reading a book by C J Raine is a first for me but it won't be my last.
This book is fast paced and laced with trigger warnings from the author. It is a gripping story that kept me turning the pages. Heartbreak and true love rolled into the pages. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Salvation gave me a mix of feelings. It will make you hot and bothered but also give you heart palpitations and make you bite your nails. C.J. Raine starts the book off with trigger warnings which are rightfully there. Do. Not. Skip. It. This book can be very dark at times and is like that for a good period of the plot. She also has a playlist which suits the book perfectly. I loved the book initially due to the prologue, I was like yesss Zahra ate that up and left no crumbs. What really made my jaw drop was her statement, “But if your body was a temple as Dad always preached, shouldn’t it be worshipped? Shouldn’t Gods work be appreciated and revered?” Say it again girl!
I really did enjoy the book. The spice was immaculate and very different from what I usually ready. If you like Dom/Sub kink you would like this book. Pierce is extremely possessive, before he even met Zahra he was doing some major stalker “call the police someone is harassing me” type things. His character is meant to be the Dominant and he very much is but I find it weird that he didn’t introduce himself when he first saw her at the club. He took it upon himself to learn about her through other avenues. Then when they do meet Zahra is pissed off about being in the club in the first place because her plans changed. I realize now the way she acted towards Pierce in their first exchange is because she IS a brat.
Something that bothered me the most was when Pierce mentioned not using protection their first time and Zahra had dismissed it by saying she is on birth control. The reality of birth control and how effective it is should have Pierce as the Dominant to still take the same amount of precautions as he would if she was not. It is naive for Zahra to dismiss the mistake he made, though that is what her character is, naive.
I find it weird that whenever Pierce reveals his stalker habits to Zahra that she doesn’t feel nauseated or harassed by how he invaded her privacy. Nor does she verbalize to him that boundaries were and have been crossed because of it. Due to the nature of the story it is on course for Zahra to feel aroused by it but there isnt even a hint of concern about it either.
There is a considerable large amount of p🌽orn in this book, there is plenty of plot still but trust me this is a smutty book.
There is a third POV for Jamal Jr and he is a psychopath. He has no physically or mental control over himself. He believes that Zahra’s family would pay the price of her escaping. When it is very obvious that her parents do not value her in any way. He is chaotic and not organized about anything he does but he is also exactly how everyone describes in his the book, the fuck up.
It is repetitive that Zahra has been kidnapped in 2 different ways and each time when it was hinted at that she was in danger, she never gave any sort of signal to Pierce to let him know she needs help. Zahra thinks that she can handle the situation or has to sacrifice herself when she does not. She is not very strong willed when it comes to her own life.
There’s a forth POV for Nik. Nik’s villain origin story doesn’t make a lot of sense. His anger is displaced and it turns out he did avenge his mother by killing his father and then doing the same to Pierce’s mother. Adding Nik to the plot feels displaced. As if the story could have been spun the same if her father was the one to kidnap her and try to make his wrongs right and get at Pierce in a way.
I wondered for a good part of the book what happened to Zahra’s father, I actually expected the letter she found in her apartment to be from him. It would have made the most sense to me due to the nature of the current plot at the time. When the letter was mentioned it gave me a sense of anxiety that her father was reaching out and wanting retribution for Zahra messing with his debts.
A fifth and final POV is added for Bennet (Zahra’s father), he is mentioned again in the epilogue. The epilogue seems to just tie up loose ends in the plot for whatever happened to and where her father went. It was satisfying but to see that she caused an extension of her family grief rather than threatening him and letting him live his life in fear and guilt was off putting almost, but is revenge for the grief that Bennet had caused Zahra. I feel as though letting him wallow in his guilt would have been better because in the long run he would have drove himself to death and could have given Zahra a long term sense of revenge for his demise.

This is a great (somewhat short [under 200 pages]) story by C.J. Raine that introduces us to Zahra. She is a very insecure preacher’s daughter who was very vanilla before she finds herself completely enraptured by the acceptance she feels at the most exclusive adult club in her city, The Playground. This place where Pierce sees Zahra for the first time; he sees her orgasm at her table from across the room and is immediately mesmerized - he could sense her nervousness but knew he wanted to be her uncelestial savior.
The characters are diverse and strongly built throughout with a decent plot; it does feel rushed at times because it will go from an event and fast forward by a substantial amount of time, but you’re able to keep up.
My favorite parts include: the dedication (just YES!); the trigger warnings (I like it dark - but please read them if you’re easily triggered as there are some disturbing scenes); the playlist is great and compliments the story very well; and, the freaking prologue (whew!!! preach it Zahra 🙌🏻).
Favorite quote: “You called out a name that has no place coming out of that pretty little mouth of yours. God has no claim to your pleasure. Who do you pray to?”
I enjoyed this book and give it a solid 3.5 ⭐️ / 3.5 🌶️; thank you C.J Raine for the ARC!
"Salvation" by CJ Raine dives into the BDSM world from an angle of the curvy girl's perspective. In this story, we see our main character, Zahra, a preacher’s kid, exploring her darker side when she gets involved with an older man named Pierce who guides her through the dom/submissive lifestyle with care and genuine concern for her well-being. Overcoming past trauma plays a large part in this story, for both of the main characters and the author does a great job detailing those events while also giving them the strength to resolve conflicts through their love for each other.
If this is your first time reading any BDSM material, this book is a great entry into that world. It is not as dark and gory as some books I've read but be mindful of the trigger warnings. The only issue I had was that there were moments when the time jumps became a little confusing for the continuity of the story. Overall the love and care that Pierce shows for Zahra and how he helps her to learn to love herself is inspiring.
Zahra led a life abused by parents who hid behind the church all her life. She thought that was all there was to it and she was ready to rebel. But as she found out, her dad was a criminal and in debt to some serious players of the underworld in Chicago. Her first night at the Playground, she was spotted by Pierce. Once he saw her, there was no going back. It didn’t matter that he was 20 years her senior or that he was a criminal too, he was going to love her.
This story grew dark and just got darker. It was written well with quite a bit of trauma and abuse mixed in. So read the trigger warnings. It however also was highly educational about a dominant/submissive relationship and even a slave/master relationship. There were many great moments of steaminess that kept you interested and happy to explore.
If you can handle the triggers, I definitely recommend it.
Welcome daddy Pierce to my list of book boyfriends I will never get out of my head! This book has very HOT spice! And the plot is a captivating mystery that keeps you on your toes.
Zahra is a plus size woman who has been beaten down by her pastor father and always polished mother. Weighed down by the expectations of religion, Zahra is excited to openly explore her sexual desires. At The Playground with her bestie, Zahra catches the eye of Daddy Pierce.
I loved that we see confidence steadily growing in Zahra right from the beginning. After the unimaginable situations she goes through, Zahra is still moving towards loving all the pieces of herself. Pierce takes his daddy role seriously and I am here for it! Every woman needs a man who worships her the way Pierce does Zahra!
There are a lot of trigger warnings for this book so please check those before reading. Some parts are pretty intense and may be hard to read.
This is my first book by this author but I have already added more to my tbr!
Typically, I don't write reviews for books that I'm "on the fence" for, but as an ARC reader for Salvation, providing my honest review.
What worked for me: - the age gap - the body positivity, him loving her size - the initial internal struggles of being religious with sexual desires
What didn't work: - the spicy scenes were rushed, not detailed enough for me, she got soaked with just words? - there were chapters that felt too heavily "influenced" by HD Carlton (Haunting/Hunting Adeline vibes) and Sierra Simone (Priest/Sinner) - still some typos, and Asher was once referred to as Ashton - all in all, it felt rushed? It felt like an abridged version with certain elements being skimmed over, like intimate scenes, build up to them becoming a couple, even the kidnapping/abuse later on - all of those could have been better fleshed out.

If you’re looking for a fast-paced read with lots of steamy scenes, Salvation by CJ Raine is the book for you! Following Pierce and Zahra, Salvation touches upon heavy topics and emphasizes the importance of self-love/self-discovery.
Zahra and Pierce have an instant connection, even before they knew each other. Pierce is extremely protective over Zahra and always tries to make her see just how incredibly strong and stunning she is. Zahra goes through a lot throughout this book. It was truly beautiful to read about her healing journey.
The plot is filled with action and spice, which will make readers excited to read! The book switches between multiple point of views, giving readers an insight into tue personalities of the other characters.
If you’re a fan of dark romances with extreme amounts of spice, this book is definitely worth reading.
When the character from a book look like you, the story hits differently..
This book has literally become one of my favourite book this year, I love the FMC Zarah so much.. my heart went out to her, I repeated to her so much as being a woman with curves on curves and I’ve suffered some of the pain that she did at the start of the book… Then meet Pierce who is the older guy that comes into her life and shows host most how beautiful she really is… I got half way through the book thinking that I was about to get my happy ever after.. then something else happens and we are pulled back into the dark world again… At times I wanted to reach into the book and pull Zarah to safety.. but I’m the end she didn’t need me to!! Such a perfect read.. Thank you CJ for bringing this stunning story into our lives!!
What you get with Salvation.... ♡Dark Romance ♡Age Gap ♡Daddy Dom ♡Billionaire Alpha ♡Plus Size Character ♡BDSM ♡Dom/Sub ♡Instant Love ♡Spicy ♡Protective ♡Stalker ♡Brat
Zahra is a preachers daughter and is expected to be a certain way. She goes to a club with her friend and meets Pierce. They have an instant connection. He is very protective of her. They have great chemistry, and I couldn't put it down!
This book is a fast-paced, quick read that is full of spice! Zahra has suffered abuse by her parents in the name of religion for years. It isn't until the plus sized fmc finds The Playground that she learns obedience comes in other, more exciting forms. Zahra and Pierce are hot together! Please be sure to check the trigger warnings before diving in!
Love the growth Zahara went through after everything she went to. Plot was great, felt a little rushed at times. But I APPRECIATE that the TW’s were in multiple places in the book to show what we read is a total RED flag. LOVED the multi POV Spice wasn’t much but was good. Maybe 3 peppers worth. I felt like this was “fluffy” for my tastes 🤣. Was not expecting the ending but it was great!
Not at all what I was expecting. There were a lot of twists and turns. Definitely dark and spicy. Short read that took me through a roller coaster of emotions.
**Check TW** Loved this book and the message it's sends out that us big girls deserve and need love too. Loved Zahra and Pierce and the journey they were sent on to find and keep their love, even through some tough times.
This book was born from my personal traumas and insecurities and the freedom I found through k!nk and love. It is near and dear to me. I wanted to highlight a body type that wasn’t often depicted (also mine) and set her up with a man who not only accepted her as she was but worshipped her. You will notice that there is no degradation is this and that is because Zahra would not have benefited from that with her fragile self esteem. It is so important for a Dom to know what their subs limits are and though it was never spoken, Pierce seemed to know just how far to push her and when to bring her back. It is a testament to his skill as a lover and his experience as a Dominant. I want to highlight that this was not DD/lg book in the sense they did not engage in age play. Her age regression was a psychological trauma response and temporary. The point of the Playground is for Daddy and Mommy dominants but there are different types of submissives.
Even when Zahras needs changed, he adapted to be her anchor. That was how he saved her even though Zahra rescued herself. And she saved him from a life of loveless monotony thinking that love was not an option for him with the life that he lived.

❗️SPOILERS❗️ _____________________________ ❤️ "I smirked because even sinners recognize a blessing when they saw one." _____________________________ ✔️Plus Size FMC ✔️Age Gap ✔️Interracial ⚠️ Read the Triggers _____________________________ ❤️"She was sent from above to save this sinner; she set my soul on fire, and it burned with a passion that I had never experienced before." _____________________________
I was given an ARC in exchange for my honest opinion and review. Salvation is the first book I've read by C.J Raine, and I can't wait to check out some more. This is written in mostly dual POV, however, there are 3 chapters written in other people's POV. Please be sure to read the trigger warnings and there is a lot about religion and hypocrisy, so this may not be the book for you if you can't put your religious beliefs aside for a work of fiction. The FMC is a plus size daughter of a Pastor and there is an age gap (about 20+) between her and the MC. And she calls him Daddy. They fall quickly, and their story spans over months, it's not all rainbows and sunshine but there is a guaranteed HEA (thank God.) See what I did there? Zahra's father, the good ol' Pastor is not so good and holy, and this plays heavily into the plot as she is kidnapped two times, one time would have been plenty - I think one time could have been enough. But it still worked being as though she was kidnapped the 1st time because of her father, and the second time because Pierce was in love with her. The situation with Nik hurt my heart... I really wish that gap of her missing wasn't as huge but again personal preference and I'd still recommend this book. And get yourself someone who loves you like Pierce loves Zahra, 'cause SWOON. ⬇️ _____________________________ ❤️ "Shhh... never again, angel, you will be mine in this life and the next, and any thereafter. Death couldn't keep me from you, and if I had to storm the gates of heaven to be in your arms, God himself couldn't stop me" _____________________________
Well, this book threw me a curveball right from the start with trigger warnings that had me firmly planted in my seat. Seemed like my kind of read, or so I thought.
Thought it was my typical cup of tea until I discovered it was serving a hefty dose of daddy romance – not exactly what I signed up for, unless it's a rare exception. The steamy scenes felt more lukewarm than hot cocoa, leaving me scrolling past faster and faster. It really didn't do anything for me. No excitement, nothing. I couldn't even picture it in my head like I normally do!
Pierce, our initially unhinged hero, cooled down at a pace that left me slightly bewildered. The abrupt shift in his character took away some of the intrigue. It could also be that I'm used to much more darker heroes that STAY dark. They love their women but they are still very insane (I'm looking at you, Chase Darington). I mean, I love me some stalking and badassery but this faded too fast.
Another stumbling block for me was the communication between characters. Zahra's attempts at being bratty or witty felt forced, and the banter, especially with her best friend, lacked authenticity. The overall tone, from text messages (with the absolute psycho) to general conversation (with Pierce too!), seemed out of tune. It just felt off and try-hard to me.
Despite the potential hidden in the trigger-warning territory, I lost interest, and I couldn't find the motivation to dive deeper. Sometimes, a book and a reader just don't quite sync up.
I stopped 50% in so it could get much better but I have no interest in finding out. Do check it out though, it could be your thing.
I think that this is the first book i read by this author and let me tell you that it was hot,it was dark ,it was twisted and ohhhh so yummy. Let me start from the negatives of the book for me. First of all despite the author writing the DD/lg relationship i think she kinda failed in that front. I am unaware if there are clubs for only DD/lg but being in the lifestyle for over 20 years i have to say that there were some safety rules that were not taken into account and also that the representation of the relationship was so little that was not nearly enough to say that they had a DD/lg relationship. If Zahra hadn't called Pierce Daddy and we hadn't seen a couple of scenes here and there we wouldn't have known that they were in to BDSM. Secondly i think that after the abduction the author tried to shield us from all the darkness and despite the book being dark and twisted it ended up lacking something. Now off to the good ones. It was fast paced it was dark and twisted and hot and gut wrenching and filled with action and with well written characters. The book captivated you from the beginning and there were times that it gripped your guts and you just didn't want to continue but you had too to see what was going on. It was so good that i would really like to see more about the club and the characters we got to know. I loved how well developed her characters were and the authors writing was sublime. Its a great book but not for the faint of heart. Read the triggers first!
Salvation, by author CJ Raine, is a dark romance and the first full-length novel of hers I have had the opportunity to read. You know it’s a good book when you must pause to cool down!
Zahra is a pious, good girl and daughter of a preacher. She was brought up to respect God and honor her parents. She has an image to upkeep, but inside, she longs to break free from the chains that bind her to this life. When a friend invites her to a club, she catches the eye of Pierce, a Daddy Dom who claims Zahra has his own.
This book has a lot to unfold. The spice is top-tier and super hot. I loved the fact that Zahra is a plus-sized woman and had insecurities about her body but knew her worth. I loved watching Zahra evolve into someone she loved and allowing someone to love her how she is worth being loved. I loved the chemistry between Pierce and Zahra and their trust in one another. The way Pierce worshipped her body was fantastic. I have not read much BDSM, but this was a gentle introduction for me. This book has trauma, spice, suspense, kink club, revenge, a large age gap, an interracial relationship, and love.
Thank you to CJ Raine for gifting me an eARC of the Salvation. I am leaving this review voluntarily. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
