Skyler is a romance novel reader first and foremost. Her books feature strong heroines who sometimes make their heroes cry, but only because they deserve it. After all, if romance isn’t angsty, is it even worth it?
I'm obsessed with this book, y'all. Writing it has been pure pleasure. I loved the idea of writing a combination of the bully trope with a Pride & Prejudice spin, where she misreads his intentions and he just wants her to love him.
He's so cocky and arrogant (hence the title) and she's the spirited, feisty girl who he wants but can't have. It's delightful.
Usually, I love this author's books but this one was extremely boring in my opinion. I hated the FMC and the MMC; I feel like the story would have been better written in two timelines, them in high school and then in college.
The plot was entirely predictable, and they kept repeating over and over what they had told us before - If I read the word 'whirlwind' one more time, I swear I'd kill someone - and then I felt like some plot points were discarded. The FMC did something to "get revenge" on the MMC, and the rest of the book was about her feeling stupidly worthless and guilty, when the MMC had intentions of using her and discarding her to "get her out of his system," but since he's in love, this never really becomes part of the plot.
Likewise, if this is the first book you read by the author, I swear to God that the others are much more fun and addictive and you have to give it a chance.
The book was so incredibly immature that it sounds like it came from the mind of a kid, like a tween or 13yo who wants to be “grown up” - I just don’t understand how an adult could write this and think it was good.
Amy calls herself a nerd, and “fat” but also believes she can “get revenge” on the guy (Tristan) she believes is a cruel asshole and have sex with him then say it was “boring” - haha! Jokes on him….???? Are you confused? Yah well that’s her thought process. Then Tristan supposedly has been obsessed/in love with Amy for 6 years at this point, but has been off-and-on dating Harper, Amy’s ex-BFF, and possibly other girls too, as he’s known as the homecoming king, that everyone wants. So he entered Amy into a contest to date him🙄 because he wants to be able to fuck her and get her “out of his system.” But he’s also having all these feels about her that makes him wonder if he ever will get over her. They’re both in college btw. College!
And this college is having a $10,000 scholarship award go to the winner of essentially a dating contest with Tristan picking the winner from a pool of girls.🙄🙄🙄 Stupid and so incredibly far-fetched. Oh and this whole contest is being filmed to air on YouTube.
The antics and thought process of both the MCs throughout this book is so immature and so incredibly stupid at times. They’re so so childish.
Initially I was enjoying this until the story opened up. I did not understand why Tristan the male lead had harboured strong feelings for Amy for literally years. But all he ever did was make fun of her one time in particular was quite cruel. He was the campus king while she was the nerdy girl. He dated her best friend Harper for months they were an off on again couple. But he had plenty of other girls, that was implied. Knowing his only real interest was Amy confused me. That being said this book slowly descended into what I can only describe as a cringe fest. Not my favourite

I wanted to discover a new author, and I was a bit disappointed with my choice. The story was too high school drama for my taste... the characters were almost unlikeable, the story dragged, and the writing style was not for me.
Enjoyed the story more at the beginning than at the end, which I felt dragged s bit. Liked that it was a short, easy read but it actually could have been a couple chapters shorter.
This was a guilty pleasure that I enjoyed. This book is not high literature by any means, but enjoyable and a quick read none the less. Drama? ✅️ Young adult idiocy that we all remember ✅️ Sex ✅️
Let me tell you all something, I actually really love this story. Lol. I’ve read it multiple times now and it still hits for me. Is it a 5 star read ? No. Not at all. But I still very much enjoy this story. Tristian being obsessed w/ Amy who is this curvy big girl who happens to be a sassy, sarcastic, book worm; just makes me smile from ear to ear. It’s suppose to be some sort of “bully” romance but there’s literally none of that happening. There’s talk of past bullying but even then..shaky..Anyway, great story w/ a pride and prejudice spin to it. She doesn’t trust him, and he just wants her to like him and give him a chance to show her how good he could be to her... he’s sooo obsessed w/ her and I fucking ate it up ! I want more of these two characters. I hope she can rewrite it but w/ more..everything ! Skylar usually does good work for me so I wasn’t surprised that I enjoyed this story as much as I did.
