Eisner-nominated WEBTOON Third Shift Society is a story about stumbling head-first into a world of magic and mystery. Financially challenged Ellie discovers she has strong psychic powers and gets a job working for Ichabod, a paranormal detective with the head of a Jack-o-Lantern.
Life’s funny. One minute you’re jobless, deep in debt, and on the verge of eviction; the next you’re in a fight with a monster and getting a job working for a paranormal detective with the head of a Jack-o-Lantern. It’s an age-old story.
Now the clumsy but determined Ellie (who’s recently discovered she has strong psychic powers) and her pumpkin-headed boss Ichabod have to team up and fight the things that go bump in the night.
Ellie and Ichabod have some supernatural solves under their belts and Ellie has her psychic powers more (or less) under control. All they’re up against now are cryptic witches, sinister demons, and some ancient monsters hellbent on escaping their psychic prison. What could possibly go wrong?
This volume collects Season 2 of the bewitching WEBTOON comic.
"Oh. Well, it's not like my corpse is going to get up and wander off. eheheh.."
Ichabod and his paranormal friends are back. They are ready to chew bubblegum and kick some ass. And they are all out of bubblegum.
This one was a lot darker and way more adventurous than the first. Ellie is finally making a name for herself and coming into her powers which is really exciting. As the story grows, I'm becoming more excited to see how this all plays out.
Third Shift Society is a fantastic series and one I can't wait to continue. I'll now be signing all of my paychecks over to Webtoon Comics.
Thanks to NetGalley and Webtoons for the advanced copy.
Meredith Moriarty's cozy fantasy-horror mystery book finally gives us more backstory and intrigue about the main characters, Ellie and Ichabod. I remain reminded of a more cutesy Hack/Slash as the story continues, with a monster of the week story that connects to the larger story arc of the volume, and I still don't hate it :P
The Scooby gang in the Third Shift Society also expands their ranks in this volume, adding a new witch friend to the fold. I appreciate that though it's stated from her introduction that she's an old flame of Ichabod's, Moriarty chooses to not pit the two women (the witch, Maris, and Ellie) against each other for Ichabod's affections. Love triangles is a worn trope right now, and I guess so is the will they/won't they of Ichabod/Ellie, but it's also not front and center so it makes it much more palatable... I'm actually reminded of the early relationship of Agents Fox and Mulder on The X-Files. Ellie and Ichabod have that same slow burn.
But what's most interesting is the history behind Ichabod and what he is and how he came to be. Moriarty drip feeds just enough intrigue to keep you reading but not frustrated. Volume Two of course ends on a cliff-hanger though, and I am already looking forward to Volume Three. I also love that though this isn't written for children, it's so far not inappropriate enough for a YA reader. My niece is almost ten and loved the first volume! She also loves how cute the art is haha
Third Shift Society is the perfect cozy urban fantasy for autumn-loving folks :)
I've been waiting for this moment for so long! If you remember I read vol. 1 last October and I absolutely loved it! I still adore the art so much.
The first Vol ended on a pretty intense cliff hanger, so I'm happy it picked up where it left off. I also appreciated the re-caps cause it has been almost a year. Not going to lie Ichabod is still weirdly attractive lol
It’s really just a direct continuation to vol. 1 so there's not much I can say without fear of accidentally spoiling something. But if you like paranormal shenanigans and lovable characters consider picking this one up! Would make the perfect quick Halloween read!
thank you Netgalley and the publishers for a copy of the GN in exchange for an honest review!
I loved this so much. it was fun and I need more as soon theirs a new book. I love the art and the idea is what I needed to read. I can't wait to see what happens next.
I just found out the final volume hasnt even been published but its on webtoon so I guess ill read it there and take a hit on missing a book for my challenge
Thank you to NetGalley for the ARC. I’ve missed this world of paranormal shenanigans with lovable characters! After a helpful recap, volume two of Third Shift Society picks up right where volume one ended. I enjoyed the development of Ellie and Ichabod’s relationship as well as the insight on Ichabod’s backstory. The history of how he came to be is really interesting! It ends on a cliffhanger, and I’m looking forward to the next volume!
A wonderful continuation to a fun overarching storyline! I’m grateful there was a brief recap at the beginning of the webtoon it was nice to remember exactly where we left off on such a good cliffhanger!
I love the continued development of Ichabod and Ellie’s relationship as well as more in depth explanation of his backstory. The artwork was absolutely beautiful and so detailed, it made the webtoon so immersive! I love how seamless each chapter flows and how the constant action propels the book and the storyline forward without being confusing.
Thank you to the Publisher and NetGalley for invitation to read and review this ARC. All opinions are my own.
When I read a book that is or was a WEBTOON, especially when I’ve read some of it already, it takes me a minute to get caught up… mentally. Like I’m connecting what I know already and what I’m learning currently. For Third Shift Society, I read the first volume before I started the chapters online, but I didn’t catch up with where this volume leaves off.
And now that I’ve explained all of nothing to you……😂
I really enjoy these characters a lot. Meredith Moriarty does an incredible job of giving us just enough information on each of them to make us want… or rather NEED to come back to find out more. Ichabod is so interesting to me. In this book, we learn a smidgen of his backstory and while it tells us something, it only made him that much MORE mysterious. (You’d know what I was saying if you’d read it… hint hint nudge nudge) And maybe it’s the masked man phenomenon or the fact that I KNOW he’s hot under those clothes, but he’s just kinda sexy with that pumpkin head. What is wrong with me?🎃🤣
I know I can read ahead on WebToons, but when I start a series one way, I like to continue it that way so I don’t get confused. Do you know what I mean? Like if I start by listening to book one in audiobook format, I need them all to be the same. (Please see first paragraph of nonsense) So now I want to continue this is printed graphic novel, so I’ll have to wait… and I’m kind of okay with that. I think😭
This was such a great continuation of Third Shift Society! The story is easy to follow from panel to panel and the art style itself is beautiful. I devoured this volume -and the last- in one sitting and I absolutely cannot wait for more. I’m invested in what happens to all of these characters and I cannot wait to learn more about Ichabod. The peaks we’ve gotten into his origins have me shaking the bars of my enclosure for more info. If you’re looking for a supernaturally good time, definitely pick this one up.
Absolutely loved this! The plot is getting so interesting - Ichabod is still a mystery, the tension between him and Ellie!? I'm totally side-eyeing those demons and I'm not sure what to think about Alice? I binged this in one sitting and admittedly was very sad when I ran out haha. I need moooorrrreee! The author has a way of hooking readers and the art feels spooky yet somehow cozy?
All in all, definitely recommend it! Especially perfect for spooky season!
A big thanks to Webtoon and NetGalley for the ARC, all opinions are my own.
3.5, and I could just refer you all back to my review of the first volume, because this is more of the same.
Mostly, in a good way, as this is indeed a fun, fast-paced read, maybe slightly more dark that the previous instalment. But also, we still find here the same issues I mentioned before, mainly a lack of world and character development, even though we get to know a bit more about Ichabod and his past... except, not really.
I really enjoy this series. I think that the illustrations are fun. I loved that the relationship between Ellie and ichobod I'm excited to see now it progresses. I like the magic system and think it lends well to the story. I'm super excited for vol. 3.
I tore through this volume. I love the mystery and the side stories that all tie back together into the larger plot. The art is great. The characters are likable and I care what happens to them. I cannot wait to get more backstory about Icabod and Maris. I will certainly keep following this story to see where it goes!
Great follow-up to Vol. 1! In my review for Third Shift Society, Vol. One, one of my problems was a lot of detail and shading got lost on the pages. I think that may have been the difference of paper, since that wasn't an issue with this volume. Where Vol. 1 used what felt like regular paper with ink printed on it, this volume used a type of glossy paper. Whatever the case, I could see a lot more detail that was really hard to see in Vol. 1.
There wasn't much I didn't like about this volume. Admittedly, chapter 7 was my least favorite. For me, it was a lot slower and there was less interactions between Ellie and Ichabod. Still, there were some things I liked within the chapter. The bookshop Ellie finds Liam outside of called "Gatsby & Sons". Next to the bookstore is a glasses shop based on the older style of glasses on the building's awning. I missed in on my first read in the Webtoon, but that was an awesome The Great Gatsby reference! Also, the full page panel with .
Another thing I really liked from Vol. 1 expanded more in Vol. 2 was Ichabod and Ellie's relationship. At this point, I feel like they have a confirmed relationship in every way but without actually mentioning anything outside of work. Annoying but hopefully there will be more such scenes in future episodes/chapters/volumes.
I like how the story has continued to build. I loved seeing Simon, and am once again really curious about his backstory. Maris was a nice addition, and provided great contrast with the other three. I'm also getting the sense that Oberon - and now Titania - aren't the only ones to worry about. There's this unseen threat Oberon and Titania are working for. You think you're getting enough clues to solve the puzzle, only to be given a new, bigger puzzle. It also adds to the mystery behind Ichabod. I have a bad feeling where this could lead. I anticipate a battle of wills somewhere down the road.
I can't say it enough. I love this series. I know only two additional chapters have been added to Webtoons, so Vol. 3 might take awhile before publishing. Still, I can't wait to get my hands on it.
Meredith Moriarty delivers another thrilling ride into the supernatural with "Third Shift Society Volume 2", where paranormal mysteries, quirky characters, and a healthy dose of humor collide. This action-packed sequel takes readers deeper into the strange world of the Third Shift Society, where psychic investigator Ellie and her mysterious, pumpkin-headed boss Ichabod tackle creatures that make the night far more dangerous than it seems.
At the heart of the story is Ellie, a once down-on-her-luck young woman whose life took an unexpected turn when she discovered her latent psychic abilities. In Volume 2, Ellie has grown more comfortable with her powers, though she still has plenty to learn as she and Ichabod face increasingly sinister threats. Their cases now involve cryptic witches, terrifying demons, and ancient monsters with a thirst for destruction. Despite her clumsiness, Ellie’s determination to prove herself is infectious, and her bond with the enigmatic Ichabod adds layers to the narrative, especially as their partnership deepens.
Moriarty’s character development is one of the series’ biggest strengths. Ellie’s evolution from a struggling, uncertain woman to a more confident psychic investigator is both relatable and engaging, making readers root for her success. Ichabod, with his pumpkin head and mysterious past, is an equally fascinating figure. His calm demeanor and cryptic knowledge of the supernatural world create an intriguing contrast to Ellie’s spirited approach, balancing the duo’s dynamic. Their witty banter and growing camaraderie bring heart and humor to the otherwise dark and eerie cases they solve.
Moriarty doesn’t shy away from high-stakes supernatural drama in this volume. With shadowy witches plotting in the background and ancient creatures threatening to break free from their psychic prison, the tension ramps up with every chapter. Fans of paranormal mysteries and fantasy will be drawn to the creative, monster-filled world Moriarty has built, where danger lurks around every corner and the only way to survive is to embrace the unknown.
For readers who enjoy fast-paced stories with a mix of suspense, humor, and supernatural intrigue, "Third Shift Society Volume 2" offers a thrilling experience. The stakes are higher, the enemies more dangerous, and the mysteries more cryptic, keeping readers hooked from start to finish. Moriarty weaves together action, character growth, and supernatural danger seamlessly, ensuring fans of the genre will find plenty to love in this installment.
Whether you’re following Ellie and Ichabod’s adventures from the beginning or diving straight into Volume 2, Third Shift Society is an addictive series that keeps readers guessing—and eagerly turning pages. With its quirky characters, spooky vibes, and escalating dangers, it’s a must-read for anyone who enjoys a supernatural mystery with heart.
We love a good recap moment to get back into the swing of things. I thought it was a great way to start this second volume as well as to tie-in to the recaps done for each of the regular WEBTOON episodes. And homage to their standard setup.
We have the Headless Horseman, Ichabod Crane himself, as a main character, Alice from Wonderland seemingly as inspiration for a dream-walking, rune-marking guardian witch of limbo with an agenda, and so many other pulls from literary fiction to really spice up this urban fantastical storyline.
And speaking of spicing up (though there is not “literal” spice) the tension between Ellie and Ichabod seems to be cranking up a bit. They’re getting closer with her becoming more comfortable with him and him learning to open up a bit more with her. It’s rather sweet 🥰 Of course, Ichabod still has that whole broody loner thing going on despite gaining Ellie as a partner, but I’m overlooking that for the sweetness. And the tension filled fist-slam against the wall…to kill an imp of course…which just happened to kinda pin Ellie to it as well…🤭 and then the hug afterward?? Cuteness!!
Secrets and mystery abound for this paranormal investigative duo with fabulous side characters and literary-named antagonists. Meddling demons, lost ghosts, creepy theater halls, missing persons, and booby trapped catacombs. So much for two supernaturally gifted beings to try to figure out and somehow it all pieced together in some way for the Big Bad. Add in learning some background about Ichabod himself, and we have a great second edition to this world. Beautiful art and easy to follow panels are fabulous as well.
But anywho, every bit of this second installment was such a delight! I flew through it on a first read through and even read it a second time to give my thoughts time to actually develop behind utter enjoyment.
This collection of the web toon picks up right where volume one left off. Ellie has stumbled her way into the world of the supernatural and is starting to come into her own as Ichabod's partner. Unfortunately she's been marked by a powerful witch named Alice (who likes to appear as The Alice). Why is still a bit murky. Also operating in the background are two demons, nemesis for Ichabod, who take their names from Shakespeare, the careful planner Titania and the more playboy type, Oberon.
There is a strong Buffy/Supernatural vibe with the monster of the week (or the chapter in this case) but also with a bigger picture through line (Alice, Titania and Oberon). Ellie and Ichabod have allies, such as Maris, his former partner/girlfriend, who's a powerful witch and Dr. Strauss (who is also a vampire).
The stories are a nice mix of Ellie (who can see spirits where most cannot) contacts a poor ghost who has been trying to contact psychics without luck and tries to help him solve his murder. There are theatre ghosts and then a storyline mostly dedicated to discovering Alice's motives taking all four of them into a catacomb beneath the city.
One of the most interesting reveals has to do with Ichabod and who he is (is he human with a curse? Is he fully supernatural? Read and find out). The storyline of Titania and Oberon feels nicely woven in. I like the characters, especially the highly intelligent Maris and Ichabod. Ellie is starting to come into her as both a psychic and with her ability to fight the monsters.
There was, for me, a strange blip of fan service (nothing wrong with that) in the theater story with Ellie trying on costumes her friend made for the theater. (It just felt like it dragged a bit). The art style is great. I really enjoy it. I'm looking forward to the next volume.
Thank you so much to NetGalley and Meredith Moriarty for providing me with a complimentary digital ARC for Third Shift Society Volume Two coming out October 29, 2024. The honest opinions expressed in this review are my own.

I haven’t read volume 1, but I was really excited to receive this. I love Halloween graphic novels and this one definitely didn’t disappoint. I loved the graphics! I thought it was really clean and easy to follow the story. I thought the plot was really fun and spooky. There was something good character development. I loved Ichabod and Ellie’s characters. I definitely want to check out more volumes!
I would recommend this graphic novel to anyone who enjoys spooky classic stories!
My ‘mistake’ with volume 2 of THIRD SHIFT SOCIETY was the same as with volume 1. I intended to savor the story, reading it in small doses, but the compelling characters, intricate plot, and stunning art by Meredith Moriarty drew me in. The opportunity to read volume 2 early was a true joy, leaving me as a very happy Katie this weekend!
This volume featured the same gorgeous art as pumpkin head Icabod and pigtailed Elle, new characters and monsters, our villains are back, and lots of magic and fighting. I can’t wait to read it again in book format and see the art on the pages so vividly!
I was excited about how the storyline progressed. I like that we don’t get every moment of every single day of what they are doing. It works well for this series. I like how the characters are starting to trust each other, become friends, and turn into their own Scooby Squad. I especially like that we learned more about Icabod in this book! I can’t wait to find out even more. His backstory is so intriguing.
I don’t know if it was a good thing to let my excitement and passion take over and read this in a day because now I have to wait until October for the real thing, but it's worth it to be back in the world of THIRD SHIFT SOCIETY!
Thanks, Wattpad WEBTOON Unscrolled and Netgalley, for the ARC!
I had my hesitations about this series since I read volume one. This is going to be hard to believe but I didn’t go onto Webtoons and read ahead. I know I said back in February that I was going to because I needed to know what happened after the cliffhanger, but SURPRISE. Patience won and I waited until volume two was released through Netgalley.
Volume two didn’t let me down y’all but I can tell this is going to be a slow process and patience may not win to see what happens. I read all 300+ pages in just a couple hours and I still have so many questions. Is Alice good or bad? What is the full story behind Ichabod’s creation? AND WHY is Ellie so nonchalant about Ichabod basically being an undead pumpkin. I’m 100% proud of her patience and letting him know that while she does have questions they can wait, especially because it proves that she isn’t into him just because of his species (?). I do like that this followed a similar pattern to the first book where we get to see their little adventures and jobs together, but these start to connect to the plot line of Alice, Oberon, and Titania. The plot is thickening, and I can’t wait to see how it turns out.
Thank you, Meredith, Netgalley and Wattpad WEBTOON Book Group, for the advance DRC copy of this book in exchange for my honest review.
The Third shift society is a paranormal / supernatural graphic novel that was originally written as a webtoon.
Ellie the FMC was jobless and in debt. That was until she started work as a paranormal detective with a partner who has a jack o lantern as a head. The catch is she has paranormal powers of her own, that are now for the most part under control. The two of them together go up against witches, monsters and demons that want to escape their supernatural jail cells.
Be ready to start to swoon for a pumpkin headed MMC in this whirlwind of a story. This falls under Horror but its more of a cozy horror, if that is a genre, if not ... well it should be and this series can start it.
In volume two we get more of the back story for both Ichabod and Ellie and how their paths lead them to where they are.
This i believe this falls under YA , however after i read Volume one , my eleven year old really enjoyed it and she will be starting volume two this week.
I personally think this would be a really good one to adapt in to an animated series. However I'm anxiously going to await the next volume to come out!
Thank you netgalley and WEBTOON Unscrolled for the advanced digital copy. #ThirdShiftSocietyVolumeTwo #NetGalley
