Gospel Training for Deacons helps to prepare and equip deacons to serve the church well.
Every church needs people to take the lead in serving the practical needs of the congregation. In Gospel Training for Deacons, Robert H. Thune is intentional about training deacons by grounding them in the gospel of grace, giving them the tools for spiritual formation, and biblical direction for their role.
Taking a biblical and practical approach to training deacons, this resource will shape future leaders at the heart level for their calling to serve the church. Thune helps churches develop deacons who know their own heart and how the good news of the gospel applies to it and cultivate a sense of “gospel fluency” so that they can live the gospel out in community. Whether used in one-on-one discipleship or in a small group setting, this study will give deacons the biblical foundation for their service in the church of Jesus Christ to faithfully serve.
Spiritual formation combined with biblical teaching about what it means to be a deacon.Discussion questions, space for journaling, and practical application exercises help to move information from head to heart. An invaluable aid to pastors in leadership development.
A strong training guide for church leaders. Defines the role of deacon broadly then focuses both on ministry service and the individual's personal growth.
This is a fairly helpful primer on the diaconate, laying out the roles, responsibilities, and character qualities well. It could have laid a better foundation by spending more time on exegesis of the Biblical texts regarding deacons. Those sections felt a little too rushed to address everything the texts have to say.
Excellent new resource for deacons. Note, this is structured as work book more than a traditional book. It’s quite short if your intention is to read straight through it as I did. The content is great nonetheless. I would recommend this along with Matt Smethurst’s book as the best 2 books on deacons.
