Rate this book
Heading home in high spirits after securing a career-building business deal, Cynthia Sumrall
encounters a grumpy—and handsome—ginger. What begins as two strangers traveling in the
same direction soon spirals into dangers and uncertainties that leave Cynthia floundering. A few
chance meetings shatter all her preconceived ideas about what she wants and leave her
questioning everything she believes about God’s purpose for her life.

Liam Flynn is dutifully going through the motions until a tenacious redhead shakes up his
mundane world with her sunshiny personality and adorable southern drawl. For the first time in
his life, Liam wants something for reasons other than pleasing his family and rising above the
stigmas attached to his questionable past. Real happiness seems within his reach until tragedy
strikes and Cynthia disappears.

Will Cynthia and Liam be able to navigate through the headwinds of hard realities to find
purpose and belonging together, or will the turbulence of fear and loss prove too much for their
already tattered souls?

HANNAH HOOD LUCERO is a wife, mom of three, Army veteran, and self-proclaimed word-slinger. While it is the brackish waters of the Mississippi Sound that flow through her veins, western North Carolina holds her heart. Her love for storytelling is the fruit of a lifetime of cultivation in the vibrant cultures of the Gulf Coast and the Blue Ridge Mountains. She currently resides in South Mississippi with her husband and three children on their ten-acre homestead. They have one dog, thirteen chickens, and at least fifty species of mosquitos, depending on the month of the year. When she isn’t in the garden, at the stove, or homeschooling, she can be found at her computer—just follow the sound of frenetic typing. Her motto is, “Draft, edit, read, repeat.”

Lucero is back with another heroic Flynn brother and another feisty heroine. I appreciated how this book deals with a very heavy and difficult topic—human trafficking—in a way that is honest and yet avoids gratuitous detail. The focus of the story is more on how “regular people” can take on huge battles against the forces of evil. The characters must face their own struggles and past hurts and their character arcs were strong and believable. A sweet and inspiring book with plenty of cute banter and page-turning action!

Hannah Hood Lucero has a way of pulling you into a story from the very beginning. The way she weaves faith into her story is inspiring and makes me introspective in a good way. Not to mention the fact this book is part of a series and we get to visit characters from previous books again. It's a big family that you want to be part of and can't wait to find more about each sibling.

Salt and Light.

Sons of Vigilance keeps getting better!! 4.5 stars for @hannah.hood.lucero’s Crossfire at the Precipice. Cynthia is a firecracker while Liam is as steadfast as you’ll find. The topic of this novel was heavier to me and hit harder being that we travel to ATL often and when we fly, it’s out of ATL. With the biggest event of human trafficking coming up soon (the NFL’s Big Game), it was fitting to be reminded that light drives out darkness and we can all be involved.

There are a couple of big conflicts between Cee and Lee in this novel. What I appreciated about how Lucero dealt with this is that you can see the humanity in the way they handle the situations. No, they are not perfect, but they always come back to each other after repenting of their sins to God.

One thing I’ve come to realize is that Flynn brothers fall hard and fast. Lucero even included a couple of comments about that in the book. The speed at which people fall in love has always been a negative for me with Christian fiction. I found it refreshing that it was pointed out as being unusual for most people and not the norm.

Now onto the last book! I’m not ready to say bye to these characters.

On her way to her best friend’s engagement party, Cynthia Sumrall meets Liam Flynn who, unbeknownst to her, is a brother of the groom. This chance encounter leads to adventure and a relationship that neither of them expected nor could have ever imagined. Both characters are dealing with family rejection and abandonment issues. In Crossfire at the Precipice, Hannah Hood Lucero delivers the truth that, with God, healing and restoration can take place even when the situation seems hopeless.

"Gulfport had always felt like a haven for her to land and rest, but not anymore. Nowhere would be safe until they had neutralized the threat. There was no question left in her mind as to what she must do.
They were standing at the precipice of destruction. The only way to survive was to jump headlong into the crossfire. God help them."

What happens when you push spunky and original characters into a challenging situation? You end up with a fantastic story. I LOVE Hannah's books! This book fits in perfectly into the series.

What happens at the airport is critical to the plot. Not only is there a funny "meet-cute," more importantly this pair realizes that together they can make a difference in one person's life.

Cynthia soon realizes that she wants her life to count for more. When she is given an unexpected gift, can she see it as a way to trust God on a new adventure? Is she willing to follow him into the danger? More importantly, is Liam willing to trust God with Cynthia's newfound calling?

This book talks about trafficking. Unlike other titles, I have read on this subject, the emphasis is on how to help those stuck in that lifestyle. Details are not overwhelming or unnecessary. I read this book and felt like I could also make a difference. In fact, the endnotes tell about real life organizations making a difference and how readers can be a part of the fight.

There is so much more to this book. Friends like family. Dealing with past choices. Callings. Purpose. This book connects with the characters in the first two "Sons of Vigilance" books. While this could be read as a stand-alone, I think it is even better having read the other books first.

I really enjoyed this book and am glad that I could read an advanced copy. I wanted to read and review the book. All opinions are my own.

“At some point, I’m going to learn to stop limiting God and being shocked by his plan for my life.”

Hannah Hood Lucero once again managed to grab my attention from the get-go, and kept me flipping pages till the oh-so-satisfying end.

There is so much I loved about this story! Cynthia's lively personality clashing with Liam's grumpiness. Their sweet moments, the banter, their painful yet realistic arguments, and the way they gently pointed one another to God. Seeing all the Flynn brothers together, and their constant ribbing. The loveable side characters you can't help but root for. And lastly, the strong and powerful faith thread. I literally had an "ooooh" moment, that's how good it was.

Crossfire at the Precipice deals with human trafficking, and Lucero MASTERED the delicate balancing act between showing the evil without getting into gritty details. Well done!!

In Crossfire at the Precipice Hannah Hood Lucero does a great job of weaving the truths of human trafficking into the everyday lives of her characters without going into graphic details and while incorporating romance and faith in a natural way.

In the opening scene I was immediately drawn in when Cynthia Sumrall met Liam Flynn and the romantic tension began. Both of the main characters struggle to balance issues from their past with the challenges in the present and are constantly considering whether they are following God’s direction for their lives.

The side characters have a lot of depth which adds to the overall story. I’ve not read the two other books in this series but didn’t have any issues following along. This book leaves you with practical resources and ideas on how to pray for the issue of human trafficking. I’m looking forward to reading the other books.

I was given an e-arc by the author for free. All opinions are my own.

Hannah Hood Lucero has done it again! She blows me away with her well designed characters and storyline. Prepare to become immersed in the story of Liam and Cynthia and their amazing relationship that reminded me of my grandparents (my Pawpaw was in the Navy). I love how Cynthia and Liam held tight to their faith through the whole novel. It's refreshing to see people turn to God in times of stress.

This novel also deals heavily with human trafficking. I appreciate Lucero bringing attention to it and how we can join in the fight and be the salt and light of the earth. Not only does Cynthia inspire us to join, but Lucero gives us practical ways we can help too in the afterword.

I can't wait for the next book in this series.

This is my favorite of the series so far, and that's saying a lot because I loved both of the first books.

Liam and Cynthia's story is action- and banter-packed, and the characters grow so much on their own and together. I loved that more of the Dedeaux and Flynn family dynamics create the backdrop to this book, and I also enjoyed the parts where Liam and Cynthia struggled realistically with the changes in their lives that came from being together.

The plot is packed full in this book, but it doesn't feel disjointed. And the action of the thriller elements is clearly well researched and very well done. Highly recommend and can't wait for book 4.

Amazing read. And often humorous. The way Cynthia and Liam met was amusing, and I love the interplay and joking between the Flynn brothers. This book brought all of the brothers together, and tackled the tough issue of human trafficking. I had a hard time putting this one down, and it had its share of suspenseful moments. The relationship between Liam and Cynthia had its ups and downs, and they both had their share of forgiving and needing forgiveness.
Loved the message of salt and light.

And how did I miss out on reading these books sooner?

Great Romantic Military Suspense!

I love Hannah's vigilant heroes with their witty banter, and her strong but flawed heroines. The Flynn family connections are intricately woven throughout the series, but each book can also more or less stand alone (I have not read the books in order).

These are great Christian reads, with splashes of faith, a touch of romance, a great respect for our service members and a heart for causes like human trafficking. I highly recommend them, and look forward to reading the rest of the Sons of Vigilance books myself.

This book. THIS BOOK. It deserves all the stars. Hannah Hood Lucero absolutely outdone herself with this work of amazingness. I felt it all—aching sadness, anger, frustration, injustice, joy, love, and well, I melted in a puddle and seeped into the cracks of the floorboard at that angry-dancing scene. My word. This book is BEAUTIFUL. It’s full of Jesus, reconciliation, and genuine, true love. I cannot recommend it enough.

The first page of this third book in Lucero’s Sons of Vigilance series had me laughing my head off because I could totally relate to Cynthia’s airport struggle! By page 23 I was immersed in breathless anxiety about what was going to happen next.

Lucero looks at Human Trafficking from a totally different perspective than most suspense writers today.

Again, her characters are well developed, and the story line fast paced. The characters have realistic faith struggles common to a lot of Christians. Liam and Cynthia, while fighting their own emotional baggage, endeavor to show grace and forgiveness to others, exhibiting a Christ like attitude in their relationships.

Where Southern Snark is the highlight of Beau on the Bayou, Crossfire at the Precipice is full of delightful Southern Charm and the main characters blend like honey and lemon to make a sweet couple. Their faith journey is fraught with struggle and God’s grace, but the thrust of the books message is what will you do with the purpose God has for you? Will you embrace it no matter what the cost or run away?

I was given an advance copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

Another exciting addition to the Sons of Vigilance! Hannah Hood Lucero took a tough topic of sex trafficking and handled it with the utmost care, keeping it a clean read, while still emphasizing the horrific realities. Definitely make sure to read the author’s note at the end where she talks about her personal connections to rescue agencies.

Really enjoyed this one. The topic of human trafficking is not a super common one I think but should be. The story was well laid out, and I think the relationship between Cynthia and Liam did well at dealing with the real ups and downs of newlywed life and missed expectations. Lots of intrigue and hard to put down.

The 3rd instalment in the Sons of Vigilance series. Human trafficking is always a very difficult topic and Hannah handled it with care and compassion in this story of following God’s call on our lives irrespective of the havoc it will cause. Cynthia and Liam’s story is one that will keep you turning the pages!!

Hannah is at it again, with another page turner that makes you neglect responsibility to finish. Crossfire at the precipice will have you laughing, swooning and nervous from the beginning. Unexpectedly in the right place at the right time, Liam and Cynthia save a life together, and the repercussions are astounding. This book keeps you on your toes, make sure you keep tissues handy. I had the privilege of reading an advance reader copy, all opinions are my own.
