Listen I read this on Patreon and I honestly could not wait for everyone to read. We all need a Darren in our lives. He just wants to make everyone happy and lbh he has hands full with Nadia and Jourdan 🤭
Hot scenes but everything else fell flat for me, i wasn't invested in the characters. They didn't feel real to me. I'm still gonna read other works by this author.
This is very adult and what I mean by that is while it is hot, it still has lots of communication and realistic fears which make the book feel more real. I think for me I have to be in the mood for a book like that like yes I love sexy black ppl talking abt their feelings and being hot, at times I was like bro idc like just fuck like I’m sorry but that’s me. I’m also unsure how I feel about like the way the book was kinda split up in 3 with each of their perspectives like that was definitely interesting
If there’s something Jackson can excels in is the most perfect balance of emotion and heat
She mixes the most perfect setting of yes the swoony feelings, but also honest emotions like the trepidation the couple keeps feeling in small pockets of this book. This throuple is so damn sexy though I find it especially enticing that they are all three equally obsessed with each other And this admiration looks and feels different with each of them. Spectacular book But I cannot say I’m surprised Kay Jackson is that girl
HMMMM....So I picked this up because I have liked this author before, and I decided to give this one a try to keep myself from a reading slump in a time where I don’t have the mental energy for super serious books. I don't feel the need to overorganize my thoughts, so here goes a scramble:
WHY IS THIS A UNICORN HUNTING AGE GAP SITUATION!!!!! Going to keep trying but ughhhhhh. The "spicing up our marriage" dynamic is A LOT already, but then when you add in the AGE GAP AGE GAP AGE GAP on every other page, it becomes very annoying. To be fair, at the same time, I do think Katrina Jackson was creative in how she thought about chronological age vs. life experiences. In some ways, Nadia and Darren are less mature and learning from Jourdan. I have heard people who are in decade-plus age gap relationships (could NOT be me) explain that one thing that can help level the playing field is if you all are compatible in terms of the places you're both at in life. That is not the case for these three professionally, but one could argue it is the case for them romantically.
I didn't always love how this book handled topics of consent. Especially in the beginning, Jourdan is very pushy and not very good at making sure people are on board before she’s moving forward with the different steps of flirtation. Despite this, I did enjoy how Jackson described in those sections why Jourdan's attention felt so positively overwhelming and intoxicating for Darren and Nadia. (Example on page 18: “Her casual affection is mildly terrifying, not because it’s unwanted, but because it’s been years since I even noticed someone being interested in me besides Nadia. Jourdan’s attention is overwhelming, especially physically.”) This is something I wouldn't pick up on my own, because I am aroace and feel annoyed by people flirting with me. But, it's nice to read about how other people experience that sensation!
To be honest, outside of the age gap unicorn hunting stuff, I really enjoyed each person's interactions with the others (the "throuple" dynamic, not so much but each of their couple dynamics were cute.) I especially loved how sweet and considerate Nadia and Darren were together—they definitely struck me as a fellow Virgo-Virgo couple!!!! It was just so relatable that they researched everything for a year and a half before moving forward with it and that they have a shared notes app for things that come up during the day they want to debrief about later!
The troubling parts of this book were more confusing than anything—Katrina Jackson doesn't do a great job mapping out how this triad handles the ENM aspects of their relationship. I wasn't clear why Nadia wasn't going on the early dates, or what level of openness Nadia and Darren magically decided to be comfortable with. There is a HUGE jump from "don't let my students see us" to "have our third child", and it was both very nauseating and very disorienting. Even before the epilogue, I was so confused about how things got so serious all of a sudden. Also, that dynamic was 90 TIMES less enjoyable than the more exploratory moments.
If you can get past the icks I described, though, I would recommend this! The sex scenes are well done, and the story is mostly enjoyable.
Unsurprisingly, I loved a lot about this book - a couple opening their marriage, a single woman who is unsure of what kind of commitment she wants, the honest attraction between them all, the fact that they also had kids to think about (I wished this was more of a plotline, especially in regards to parenting and social visibility). What was missing for me was anything beyond the sexual tension and release that dominates the narrative.
As much as I appreciate how great Jackson is at translating chemistry between characters onto the page and her skill and descriptions, I'd wished she'd also left space for other things. There is a lot of sex in this book and not much of it is used to further explore our characters or their dynamics beyond "they find each other very hot" - nothing wrong with that, just not what I am really looking for in my romances. And I loved that they also could laugh together and such even if all of their encounters were amazing and they could easily read each others desires (something that worried them earlier but turned out to not be a problem at all). We get a few glimpses into some of less sexy things that come with balancing a life and polyamory: STD testing, scheduling problems, money insecurities, etc but the book does not linger long on any of those things, nor does it allow for much space for the romantic attraction to flourish without any sexual innuendo.
Oh, and how can she write this beautiful depiction of a woman who was been married to a man for over ten years discovering her bisexuality yet once again imply that "real sex" somehow only qualifies PIV when they are all present? Explain that to me. That scene with Jourdan anxious for their first full night together could have been phrased differently and it would have been better for it.
Other Reviewers: "There is so much good communication happening <3 " Me: "Aha. Where ??"
In all honesty though. This could have been a great book if only they actually talked about what was on their mind. On their first date they almost only talked about sex. And on their second date they actually had sex. The book is telling me to not 'Slut-Shame' and Im here like: This isnt about that. You wanna enter a relationship with these two. So maybe ask them stuff and talk to them. Instead we get mentions of pussys and dicks every time they as much as think about the other. It gets better in the later half but not enough to win me over.
A married couple takes in a third partner for a hot sexy poly black love read. The sex scenes are hot as per usual with Ms Jackson cause she Nasty, but there isn't much character development imo. I really liked the dynamic between the two women, did we even need the husband idk :). This is for us girls if you like your erotica big on sex, little on dialogue!
Loved this. Wanted more character development but there was nothing inherently wrong with this book. The writing was spectacular as usual, the scenes were hot and I loved the development of intimacy between each other. But idk, my rating is based off of personal preference and as of right now this is what it’s giving. Maybe it’s because I took a break before the last 20 pages. 😅
the long time couple is opening up the relationship. they're so cute. she's helping him set up a date with this girl from a dating app. turns out that girl is bi and the wife is also into her. things progress really naturally. the three of them fit together so well. katrina jackson never disappoints.
3.5 stars. The ending was a bit cheesy, but I really enjoyed this! It was super steamy, the characters were great, and the writing was fabulous. I would definitely read more from Katrina Jackson in the future!
Loved it ! And I am more into mfm than fmf but this one is sooooo good. So hot and sweet and fun. Darren and Nadia are the absolute best! Jourdan is great and a freaking lucky bitch! I loved the kiddies and would love to read the book of their twin and un twinned lives. A must read.
Most of the poly books i read revolve strongly around how the third feels love how this portrays everyone feels.. love the hot scenes love how she fits in and how she even gave them a future beyond just hot sex 🫶🏽
The tenderness of the relationship 🥹 THE TENSION!!! 😮💨 and the 🌶️🌶️🌶️??? 🧎🏻♀️Age gap! loved this couple sm! Black Poly Romance, married couple with twins open their relationship after years of being together.
The writing was surprisingly good, especially the very adult communication. Then again that kind of felt off. Maybe I'm more into toxic miscommunication. The spice was good but Jourdan as a character sadly fell somewhat flat.
This book was so steamy, and it also juggled the wholesomeness incredibly well.
This is amazing black bi/poly rep, especially because one of the three in the relationship is actively trying to figure out her sexual identity.
This was incredibly fast to read, and incredibly easy to read. This was a satisfying, sexy book, and I cannot wait to see what else Katrina Jackson has in store.
I felt like Darren and Jourdan had a better one-on-one relationship than Nadia and Jourdan but they all work well together and that's all that matters, right?
