Out all the bad material I have read on Wattpad, this one was an okay read, especially for a werewolf story (and when you're a Wattpader like me, you can agree that werewolf books suck on Wattpad, especially the popular ones).
Of course, like all werewolf stories, it contains some cliche, but this one was good and enjoyable to read. I liked the protagonists (both male and female leads) and how their relationship evolved. Gabriel is much more than the dangerous alpha he seems to be, and I found Skylar a very likeable girl, in contrary to many other werewolf stories where I can't stand the girl.
There is also a good plot; a progression in the storyline. It's so much different from other werewolf stories. The writing style is also good.
Now... Let's get to the negative points.
First: the cliche: It is impossible to avoid it in a werewolf story: Girl mated to powerful alpha with a rather dark past, he is her pack's ennemy and all, he's had a relationship with a packmember before. But it was quite okay because it is not too much.
Secondly: the characters:
Gabriel was really interesting as a character, but I really dislike how he treats Skylar when she goes to live with him. He would have used his superiority over her Alpha to force her to go with him hadn't she gone willingly. Also, when she finally lives with him, he puts a lot of distance between them, and acts really cold. I mean, I understand that he had his reasons, but he gotta assume: if he were going to be like this from the start, then he should have left her alone with her family.
He is also too much secretive. Honestly, I felt like he didn't trust the female lead. I hate how hypocrite he acts at some moments, especially with Eva. The way he used her is disgusting, but I really can't find it in myself to like her.
Then the girl, Skylar: honestly, she's one of the only girls I can tolerate from a werewolf story and she had some depth; but she is too weak. I like her personality, but there are moments where I want to slap her face. Especially her wolf. It annoys me. She can't even control herself around Gabriel, and I feel like she is insecure. She belittles herself too much and can't fight against her wolf, or her friendship with Will. There are also moments where she acts like a coward; running away will not solve your problems.
Eva and Will: I am quite disappointed by these two. I would have loved to see how their relationship improved, but they only existed as potential rivals for the main characters.
And there is also this weird thing:
Gabriel and Skylar love each other
Skylar is loved by Will. Will is loved by Maria. Will then finds out his mate is Eva, and then BOOM! He immediately loves her, and she doesn't resist him for too long. Then, Maria discovers that Will's big bro is her mate...
You got my point. It was really improvised and repetitive. I would have loved more interaction from characters like Gabriel's Beta.
There are moments that just happen to "save" other events in a lot of chapters. Like that time when Maria was depressed because of Will, then she met his older brother again, and then, you know what happens next.
The writing is okay. Not great nor good but okay. The writing style isn't impressive and it lacked a bit of description. As for the grammar, this story needs to be edited because there are quite a few mistakes.
Then, you have some events that are really like... Incredible? I mean, I didn't even know werewolves and angels were related, much less that they could have kids. And why does the old ennemy seem to appear just when Gabriel finds his mate?
Again. You got my point. By some moments, it reminded me of Twilight.
I also didn't like how the story was towards the end, it was a bit disappointed but Skylar and Gabriel end up together.
So in the end, I think that My Dark Knight is an okay read. The beginning is really interesting but some moments are really boring and the end disappointing. The way Gabriel emotionally treats Skylar in the beginning is also annoying.
