A Sentimental Lady and a Scholarly Lord. Cordelia Bennington, fourth daughter of the Earl of Westmont, glides into her season with all confidence. After all, her requirement for the successful suitor could not be more straightforward. She requires a Corinthian—a fellow who is out sporting all the day long, a man whose tailor almost despairs of encasing his wondrous arms in fabric, a man who might use those wondrous arms to carry her round the house. If this great beast of a sporting man sees fit to sweep her up in his arms and carry her about at every opportunity, she will not argue against it.Percival Granger, Baron Harveston, is tall, lean, sophisticated, erudite, and exceedingly well read. He is a member of The Royal Society and the founder of The Society for Serious Literary Examination. He is all intellectual and not a jot of sport. Two people could not be less suited, but yet when they are separated they find they are pulled toward one another. Each of them realizes that something radical must be done.Cordelia determines to turn herself into an intellectual with her dear unintellectual aunt’s assistance. Percival is dragged out of doors at all hours by his friend, a Corinthian attempting to remake him into some semblance of a sportsman. Each will transform themselves into what the other desires. While Shakespeare understood that the course of love never did run smooth, it is unlikely the bard was imagining twisted limbs, banged heads, and a house fire.

This is the fourth book in the series & I must admit I’ve found the series to be a bit over the top but this book made me laugh & I couldn’t put it down. I really liked both Percival & Cordelia & loved their endeavours to change themselves, I thoroughly enjoyed it & was routing for the couple to find their HEA My review is for a special copy I voluntarily read
Cordelia Bennington expects to have an easier season in London than her older sisters have had. Unlike them, she only has one requirement of the man she will wed: that he will be a great beast of a sporting man. But when she falls for the intellectual Baron Harveston, both of them wonder if they must reconsider their current interests and lifestyles.
This is the fourth book in this series, which follows the close-knit but unworldly Bennington sisters as they take Regency London by storm. The heroine here is Cordelia, the sister who keeps setting housefires as she tries to perform Desdemona's death scene from Othello.
It was interesting to see the decidedly unintellectual Benningtons keeping company with bookworm Percival, and how he and Cordelia came to appreciate each other's merits and work as a team. There's rather less drama in this book than previous ones, but I enjoyed the slower pace. Percival's misunderstanding about the identity of Lord Darling and Juliet's snarky attitude toward her sister's husbands absolutely cracked me up. I did feel like the ending was a bit abrupt though, maybe because I've become spoiled by the drawn out epilogues of the previous books.
Sweep Me Up, Baron. My fellow readers. Perhaps I am a sentimental sap, but I must say this. I simply loved Cordelia, her sisters and her aunt. They brought so much light, laughter and closeness to this wonderful story. How could so much humor, goodness and goodwill take over a story. The humor among the characters is bloody amazing. I laughed and guffawed so many times. I was surprised by the comedy that jumped off the pages. The comedy and the timing of the dialogue among the characters was very superb. What a great way to keep the story moving. The romance, I felt that was a bit slow, as it went along in the book. The story was great. I for one had a blast reading a treasure of a story. I give this book two snaps and a, Earl of Westmont: Tattleton brace yourself. Juliet has acquired a gerbil. She has named him Horace. Tattleton: Great Scott! Has the child have no heart? I feel lightheaded. Until next time my fellas readers. Read on! I received a copy of this book from the author in exchange for an honest review.
To be a corinthian, or be an intellectual, that is the question!
Full of smile inducing twists, witty tangents and cleverly engaging fun turns. In this latest installment, that's all heart, mischievous goat antics, sweet connection & the most uniquely endearing proposal ever! Oooh, I really loved this one; my favourite in the series so far! For me, Archer got the balance just right in SWEEP ME UP, BARON. The shenanigans and highjinks afoot embellished and hyped up the emotional connection I had to Percival and Cordelia and them in turn to each other, as they sparkled with a sweet, quiet, chemistry on their quest to turn themselves into the perfect, worthy, match for each other. Crafting the tale into an emotionally more rounded, enjoyably statisfying one, with - dare I say - a more believable air to the misunderstandings and conflicting uncertainty of feeling crackling from them, that really sucked me into their fate, had me invested and rooting wholeheartedly for their happiness as a duo. Shedding a new light on the supportive Bennington tribe as a unit, finally making me love their degree of kooky, seeing them for the fun, supportive family they truly are at heart. Cordelia had this instinctual keen perception, deep set sensitivity and compassion for people that radiated in every action coupled with an endearing warmth and easy likeability that really gripped me and drew me in. Especially as she clashed on first greet with the intellectually intimidating Percival. Making them grow as individuals as they reassessed who they thought they wanted as a spouse, altering and remoulding perspectives, in the best possible way, to attract the one person they thought they wouldn't be compatible with, yet surprisingly couldn't stop thinking about...each other. Looking forward to the next installment, with more Bennington muddles and mayhem as the last sister, our budding poet, gears up for her very own 'ode to a season'!

Sweep Me Up, Baron by Kate Archer is the fourth in the Very Fine Muddle series about a family of very different women (the Bennington’s) who, upon the death of their mother was raised by the very eccentric Miss Eloises Mayton, who dress in widow’s weeds, told of outrageous stories of her past in which several suitors came to tragic ends, and was a fan of Gothic romance, which she had been reading aloud to the girls for years. Three were now married and that left two. This year was Cordelia’s turn. So, off the went to London for the season, a trip normally taking two days, made in only thirteen days. A linear trip for the Bennington family. Along the way they adopted a baby goat, imperiously named Lord Darling, Marquess of Basingstoke. Upon their arrival in London, their brother, Lord Darden joined them. Used to his sisters and Miss Mayton he took everything with a grain of salt. When Miss Mayton informed him that she and Cordelia would be joining Lady Rawlins’ informal acting troupe and would be joining them at Lord Harveston’s meeting of the Society for Serious Literary Examination, he simply rolled his eyes.
This was a classic tale of two people, who on the surface, had very little in common, but once the attraction was confirmed, each made every effort to turn themselves into the person the other was looking for. Thus, Cordelia started reading more highbrow offerings although she retained little of it and Harveston made every effort to gain some athletic skills. It was a humorous story watching this relationship develop. The characters are different and very genial. The plot was a little different, but not unexpected for the Benningtons. A well-written story with plenty of diversions along the path to true love, also not unexpected for the Benningtons.
I was invited to read a free e-ARC of Sweep Me Up, Baron, by Dragonblade, through Netgalley. All thoughts and opinions are mine. #Netgalley #Dragonblade #KateArcher # SweepMeUpBaron
This is the fourth installment of the series, A Very Fine Muddle. I've enjoyed reading the last two books (I missed the first one) and this latest one certainly did not disappoint. Cordelia enters into her Season with only one main expectation in a suitor, and that is that he excels at sports and is the ultimate sportsman. When she meets Percival, he couldn't be farther than her ideal Corinthian. He is definitely more brains than brawns. He and Cordelia could not be less suited for each other, but they are inevitably pulled towards each other. They each consider changing their respective lifestyles to more meet that of the other try to make themselves into what they are not, he a sportsman and her more of an intellectual, so that they may be a better match for each other. It was such fun watching this relationship unfold, so many shenanigans and hijinks that just had me laughing along the way. The story pulled me in from the very start, and the little twists and turns kept me engaged till the end. I really enjoyed the clever banter between the two, so witty and entertaining. And the chemistry between them was such a great delight! Reading this installment has definitely left me wanting more, and I can't wait to continue the series. What a well-written and captivating addition! My thanks to Netgalley and Dragonblade Publishing for providing a complimentary copy. This is my honest and voluntary opinion.
Kate Archer has done it again! Such an engaging fun read, had me LOL several times and thoroughly enjoying the ridiculous situation the family encounters any time they travel any as a family.
This time, as the family make their way to London for the season, it was Cordelia Bennington's turn to find her Corinthian - a man with exceptional sportsman skills, with arms a tailor would weep when trying to encase them in sleeves (due to their tremendous circumference acquired through various athletic endeavours!)
Very un-Corinthian like is Percival Granger, Baron Harveston, a very learned man who spends a good amount of this time focused on his club, The Society of Serious Literary Examination, SSLE and their various intellectual discussions. The two meet and at first neither is impressed with the other. However, through a series of events that have them thrown together, they finally realise that what one lacks in intellectual abilities, the other makes up for in emotional intelligence! A perfect couple indeed.
Another hilarious, tongue-in-cheek story of the Bennington clan and their supporting cast of servants, pets and animals picked up along the way.
I received a copy of this book as a gift from Booksprout and this is my honest and voluntary review.
Cordelia starts her Season thinking she has an advantage over the other debutantes: she knows what kind of man she wants to marry with and won't take anyone else. The man will be a corinthian, he will have big bulky arms so he can carry her everywhere they go and he will love her acting skills. All of her older sisters got married in their first Season to the type of man they wanted. Yes, they needed a little bit of help, but it happened either way. So, finding the husband she wants shouldn't be a problem, right?
Percival is a Baron that knows his equal partner will be an intellectual, as he is. He is forced to make her aunt and her troupe of so call actresses part of his society of intellectuals. He is looking for a way to prevent this when he sees her, Lady Cordelia, she is beautiful, but she must be a scandalous young lady if she is part of his aunt's troupe, right?
These two start as weird acquaintances and somehow get to know each other that well that they end up together. Read this to know how they change their minds about each other and what they wanted for the rest of their lives.
We have watched the previous Bennington sisters meet their future husbands then engage in ridiculous schemes to make them prove themselves, but this story was a treat. Both Cordelia and Harveston were smart and open, and the plot moved along nicely. There was none of the repetitious internal agonizing that dragged down the previous books in this series with their weaker, less intelligent plots. The pet this time was just as ridiculous as the previous ones but met with an appropriate fate. Being a sailing enthusiast myself, though, I did feel the author was in error about the handling of an overturned single person boat. Every beginner learns the trick of righting a tipped over sailboat before it turns completely upside down, or turtling. It would've been even better for the plot to have embarrassed the whale guy, name already forgotten, by having him make that fatal error. This author has a habitual set of grammatical slips and modernisms I find annoying, but she does tell a sweet, engaging and heartwarming story all the same. I can't help being a grateful fan.
The fourth installment in the hilarious and wholesome closed-door romance series brings infamous Desdemona death scene enthusiast, Cordelia out for her season. Having learned from her sisters preceding her, she has but one demand for her future husband: be a paragon of athleticism.
The pacing is a bit inconsistent, and Cordelia’s love interest and the situations she found herself in were less enjoyable than the previous installments, but the book is not without its charms. Anytime Juliet is reminded of her brother in law Van Doren’s existence is always a laugh. The Duke and Lord Baderton both resort to the ladies’ original idea of true love while waiting for their wives to come away from a visit to their youngest sisters—threatening to do themselves a violence if they are parted further.
A fun witty read with the fourth Bennington sister Cordelia and her search for her perfect Corinthian who would love her forever!
Percival didn’t know what had hit him when he met Cordelia through his Aunt, she wasn’t what he would be looking for when he started to search for a wife but for some reason, he couldn’t get her out of his mind!
Ooh this is such a fun, romantic read with lots of favourite and fun characters from previous books in the series and new ones which will make you giggle at the same time as routing for a HEA for Cordelia and Percival. A wonderful read, light-hearted and witty to make you smile!
I voluntarily read and reviewed this ARC. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
Lighthearted, frothy, and entertaining, this romance follows the adventures of the eccentric Bennington sisters and their even more eccentric aunt and chaperone. Cordelia enjoys all the dramatics that come with acting out a Shakespearean drama, whilst Percival Granger is horrified at her choice of literature. Nevertheless, there is an attraction between them, and they both try to conform to one another's requirements for the perfect match. Added into the mix are a goat, a parrot, and frustrated butlers. Percival's proposal is hilarious, but the couple do finally find middle ground. I received a copy of this amusing romance as a gift through Dragonblade Publishing and NetGalley and this is my honest and voluntary review.
Another wonderful book in Kate Archer's, A Very Fine Muddle Series. The Bennington's are a close family with lots of love and support for each other. As a family they are extremely happy and have none of the cynicism that others in the ton may have or exhibit. It is Cordelia's turn for a season and she has decided her future husband should be athletic, fit, and a Corinthian. When Cordelia meets Percival Granger, Baron Harveston, he is hosting The Society for Serious Literary Examination. Percival is not athletic at all. This is a fun book with amusing animals, a unique aunt and butler, and good fun throughout.
Percival Granger, Baron Harveston, finds himself unexpectedly attracted to Lady Cordelia Bennington when introduced by his aunt. He's an intellectual and focused on his club, The Society Of Serious Literary Examination, SSLE. Cordelia gives him insight to another way of thinking. She is looking for her Corinthian and Percival is anything but, even though he tries. The Bennington family once again takes London by storm and a baron loses his heart. A clean entertaining romance with lots of hilarious situations. More books to come with the Benningtons. I voluntarily read and reviewed a copy of this book from NetGalley.
Oh, I do love the Bennington family. They are a little eccentric, thanks mainly to they lady who stepped up to help raise them, but they are a very happy family. That love for each other has shaped the way they see the world around them.
Each of the sisters have their own book in this series, but I think they are best read in order. All of the characters are so much fun, even the household staff who have more than their share of excitement. This story shows there is more than one way to see the world.
I have loved every book in this series and can't wait for the next one.
A series on the Benningtons continues with Cordelia. The fourth daughter makes her way into society. Her goal is to marry a sporty, dashing, debonair young man until she meets Percival, a book toting intellectual man with none of the qualities that Cordelia is looking for. What happens next is a fun loving story with fantastic new characters and familiar old friends as these two try to change themselves into what the other person is loving for in a match. This lighthearted story will have you laughing and giggling throughout making your day shine brighter than before.
Lady Cordelia wants a STRONG man, a regular Corinthian fellow. Yet, she finds herself not attracted to the one Corinthian fellow she finds. Instead she is shockingly interested in a bookish fellow and tries to turn herself into an intellectual. Oh and on the trip to London for her season, finds a goat! The butler, oh boy, he needs prayers. These sisters and their Aunt, you will laugh, therefore if you're reading in bed at night and your husband is a light sleeper, be warned that you might just wake him with your giggles.
Another story about the eccentric Bennington daughters, this one is about Cordelia who is looking for a Corinthian to marry. Percival, an intellectual, is hoping to eventually find an intellectual woman to marry. Both of them are attracted to each other, but can they change their minds about what it is they really desire? I received an ARC from NetGalley and Dragonblade Publishing for my honest review.
Another wonderful story with continued laughter throughout.
This is the fourth girl in the family to make her debut in to society. Each daughter has her own dream of what her future husband would be andCodelia was seeking a Corinthian. She ends up marrying an intellectual. Throughout the story we have the ongoing family trials and joys and this provides so much humour that I am laughing so much that I have to put my book down until my fit of laughter subsides.
This is my favorite book of the series so far, although I think Conbatten will always be my favorite character. One question kept nagging at me with every mention of Chester, the parrot the family acquired in the previous book. At the end, on the way back from the en masse elopement, they bought a female parrot to keep Chester company. So what happened to Jemima?
Regency Romantic Comedy Cordelia longed for a dashing Corinthian but found herself entangled with a scholar instead. Both she and Percival struggle to change for one another—Percival striving to embody the qualities of a true gentleman of society, while Cordelia attempts to embrace a world of intellect she never cared for. Can they truly transform, or must they learn to love each other as they are? This charming Regency romance is a delightful blend of wit, heart, and humor.
Bless the constant Miss. Mayton! My favorite series!
Each book brings so much to look forward too. I've never enjoyed another series so much. I love the indomitable Miss. Mayton, the Benningtons, and their besotted husbands! It is very likely I'll do a voilence to myself when the series ends! Yes Van Doran....a violence.
Cordelia is the next sister to get her season and she definitely follows in line with her other sisters with her courtship involving an intellectual young man although she was looking for a Corinthian when she started. Why her change of, who inspired it and how do they find their hea despite all the hiccups along the wat a week and clean romance peppered with lots of humor
A Very Fine Muddle is a fabulous series by author Kate Archer who has become A Very Fine writer and I can't wait to read Juliet's story! I've laughed so much reading this authors books!
This was probably my favorite of the series. I liked that the hero and heroine both tried to improve themselves for the other and then found a happy medium between them.
What she wants in a romantic relationship is not what she gets. Cordelia seeks a Corinthian yet finds true love with an intellectual. She seeks to become an intellectual and is a woman who cares about people not stats.
This story was on of Ms Archers good ones. There was no silly maneuvering for a desired outcome. There was no second guessing as to the feelings of the other. It was fun, entertaining, with ever-changing circumstances. I highly recommend it.
