Great plot!

The United States suffers a devastating attack from radical Islamic forces. Two factions of government emerge in the United States, the military splits, and the world is not sure who will come out as the legitimate government. The US is in a modern civil war. China senses weakness and attacks the West Coast. NATO sits out, unsure of whom they should support and this also freezes U.S. troops in Europe.

The author’s experience as an Army officer and the State Department comes through loudly in the novel, you can feel the realism.

The book has two strong central characters, Jude, ex-Army Ranger, and Kate, ex-Army MP officer. Of course, Jude is everything you want in a hero, but I was more impressed at how much the author developed his female lead. She is not window dressing and a powerful force with lots of action in her own right.

I don’t want to give away to many storylines, but this should be enough to make you want to know more.

It is a very interesting “what if” story and should make you think about it, the storyline, and the real-life possibilities long after you finish the book.

This book/author was introduced to me by my author-friend Mike Slavin. This book is strikingly worrisome. Meaning it is a very worrisome presentation of a possible future. While several of my liberal friends feel (and remind me) that the biggest threat in the present US is right-wing domestic terrorists, my answer is that Al Qaeda (or another flavor of jihadist extremists, such as Hizballah, Islamic Jihad, ISIS, Boko Haram, etc.) makes me much more anxious. And Dan Santos has brought my nightmares to life in his apocalyptic novel describing the total destruction of our governmental infrastructure, and the take-over by Al Qaeda terrorists along with the invasion of the US west Coast by the Chinese. The protagonist of the book, Jude Winthrop is a former Army ranger turned diplomat, and the author’s personal life experience both in the military and diplomatic arenas makes the book very “realistic” in its details. The story moves very fast. I just bought the 2nd and 3rd books in the triology.

THRILLER
Insurrection: Appalachian Command, Dan Santos
NO COMMENTS SEPTEMBER 19, 2017
During the State of the Union Address terrorists massacre a large part of the government, including the President, his Cabinet, most of Congress, the Supreme Court and the Joint Chiefs of Staff. The surviving Chief of Naval Operations becomes America’s first dictator.
China invades the West Coast while sleeper terrorist cells create the Army of God to continue America’s subjugation and destruction.
Freedom fighters take to the hills to fight the dictator and his allies.
A former US Army Ranger whose wife and unborn son perished in the terrorist attack turns into a one-man, highly skilled vengeance machine.
A beautiful freedom fighter fights alongside him, but she could never replace his dead wife, or could she?
Insurrection: Appalachian Command is a frightening, apocalyptic read that terrified, shocked and excited me all at the same time. It is a thrilling book that makes you think about where the future is going to take us; it may be a fictional apocalyptic read but it has some scary home truths in it and there is potential for all the scary stuff in this book to happen. It really is an excellent book that is wonderfully crafted and for that, I would recommend that you lovely readers check it out!
Insurrection is a terrifying tale that sees Al Qaeda terrorists taken over the American government. It is a frightening read that rings true of what is happening in the world today. What makes this book even more realistic is that Dan Santos, the author of the novel, has served in the Military for a long period of time and he also has a government service background so this has enabled him to write a fictional story with some scary truths laced throughout it. It really is a compelling read, it captivated me from beginning to end and I was in awe of the author’s talented piece of fiction.
The story of this book reads like science fiction but it is scary when you realize that the events that took place in this book could happen! If anything it is a chilling prophecy that predicts global case, well, to be honest chaos is already ensuing in the world but this book predicts great chaos and it makes for a real terrifying read!
Dan Santos’ writing is simply flawless, his words were magnetic and jumped right off the page. He knows how to capture his reader’s attention from the start and how to hold their attention until the very end. I loved how much research Santos has put into this story, of course, the majority of the novels information is from his personal experiences and knowledge but it just shows that he is really invested and passionate about his work and I really admire that as a reader.
To summarize my thoughts on this thrilling novel I would say if you are a reader who Is tired of reading the same old books that are lackluster and forgettable then take a chance with this one because I promise you now that you will not be disappointed. It is a novel that has everything the reader would want in a read and so much more; it has spine-tingling good content, dynamic, memorable characters, a charismatic author that writes beautifully and wonderfully so and lastly it is an all-around, interesting, memorable read that you will not be disappointed if you choose to read it. My rating for this wonderful book, of course, has to be Five Stars, it would be crazy if I did not give it this rating after all of my praise over these paragraphs!
