A Thing of Beauty Is a Joy ForeverKen likes to sit and watch his English teacher. Oh, he likes to listen to her too — he's a good English student — but mostly he loves to watch Dana's face. Her body... Can you blame him that when she asks him to come by her classroom so that she can give him a present for his eighteenth birthday, his brain offers him images of a gift a lot more personal than a book of poems? That he fantasizes of learning something from this beautiful older woman that's a lot more heart-stopping than grammar or literary criticism? And can you forgive him for being overwhelmed when that fantasy comes true? Dana is more than happy to teach Ken something A thing of beauty is a joy forever. And a beautiful teacher can be the pleasure of a lifetime. A short story of teacher-student sexual initiation. First part of the Erotic Letters for Allison Thing of Beauty* Virgin Knot* The Big Easy* Arise, Fair Sun* The Mansion of a Love (Coming Soon!) Newfound Land (Coming Soon!) * Collected in Four Erotic Tales was standing with her back to me—not in the lingerie I had been attempting not to visualize, but in the black turtleneck and button-up skirt that she had been wearing at lunch. She turned around, smiled, and walked toward me, holding out… a book.
I smiled, trying hard, now, not to look disappointed. I took the worn a volume of Keats’s love poems. Well, that was interesting. I looked up, about to say thank you.
“Open the cover, “ Dana said, her arms folded in front of her, as if she were suddenly cold. “Read the inscription—read both of them.”
Dutifully, I opened the book to the title page. There were indeed two inscriptions. The top one, written in a strong block print, and dated about fifteen years earlier, read, “To Dana, who is as fine a student and teacher as a man could wish for, Love, John.”
Below, in the small, fluid script I knew from so many papers, was an inscription dated that
To Ken,
who is a finer student than I ever was, and whom I hope to continue to teach and learn from.
Love, Dana.
I looked up.
She was staring at my chest, her arms still folded, looking suddenly very small. “John was my Senior English teacher. He taught me a huge amount about writing, about reading poetry.” Her glance ran over the book in my hand and she gave a small, shy smile. It was disconcerting to have this brash, flirtatious woman acting so timid, so much like a teenager. “On my eighteenth birthday, he gave me that book, and…” She looked up at me, face pale and eyes dark. “He became my lover. He was wonderful. He taught me… so much.”
She reached up to my cheeks and paused, her eyes an open question.
I leaned down and pressed my lips to hers. Our tongues met, and the heat from her mouth flooded through me, soothing the flip-flops that had been trampolining in the pit of my stomach. I reached my hand toward her breast. She stopped my hand, broke our kiss, and rested her head on my chest. I was breathing like a bull ready to charge.
“In spite of what you might think, I haven’t ever done anything like this, Ken,” she sighed.
K.D. West is an Amazon best-selling author of contemporary short fiction, a teacher, and a performer living in a small suburb of a big city in the American West:
"Not a huge amount to say -- I'm an author of steamy stories who happens to be a teacher; these things don't mix well in public, so I tend to be fairly quiet about real life in my blogging. I am, however, interested in all sorts of things -- books, writing, theater, mythology, and, obviously, erotica! I'm a huge reader of genre fiction -- mostly mysteries and fantasy, but also science fiction and historical romance."
West is working on two intertwined series involving a young woman and her older lover (the Juliet Takes Flight and Erotic Tales: Letters to Allison stories), a series of stories about friends discovering that they can become much more (Friendly Ménage Tales), and a series of stories that the Brothers Grimm might have collected, if there had been traditional tales where the heroine got the princess (Sapphic Fairytales). Also on the way: By the Numbers, an erotic paranormal/urban fantasy novel involving a long-lost friend coming all but literally back from the dead, and showing a happily married couple just what they'd been missing.
DANA: THING OF BEAUTY is a short story written in the format of a letter. In this letter, a man is telling the story of his first sexual experience which happened to have been with his high school English teacher. Supposedly, this letter is written by a man to a woman, both of these characters found in other books Ms. West has written. I hadn't previously read any of Ms. West's books so these characters and their stories were completely unknown to me. Regardless of this, there was absolutely no confusion or any need for me to have read Ms. West's other books in order for me to understand or enjoy this short story.
I don't typically read short stories because I rarely find them enjoyable. I rarely enjoy them because for me to enjoy a story, I feel that the book must contain a thorough and complete beginning, middle and end. In my experience, I've found very few authors capable of filling these three areas with quality and substance while doing so in a brief or restricted amount of words. I am happy to report that Ms. West is one of the rare talents who CAN do this! Despite this book's brevity, Ms. West was able to create something enjoyable, entertaining and believable! In fact, she did this so well that this tale came to life in my minds eye! What was even more impressive was that Ms. West added a small, unexpected twist which prevented this book from being a stereotypical teacher-student romance. The way she told this story was not only believable and enjoyable but also beautiful and in the end, somewhat funny. I was really, really impressed with how West spun this tale, giving readers just enough detail to make it sexy and hot yet doing so without creating a smutty or trashy story. I'll definitely be reading more by this author!
A really sexy first-time story about a young man and his very patient, very good teacher. It's also the introduction to a whole series of stories that are just as hot!
(Had fantasies sitting in American History about Mr. K.... Nice to know it wasn't just us girls!)
