I have been looking forward to this story for a long time and I wasn't disappointed. LOVED, LOVED, LOVED it. Mike and Quinn were sooooooo H.O.T. I also loved the mystery involved and the story kept me intrigued throughout. It was great to read about previous characters. I'm sad now that the story is over and am looking forward to the next story. Just did a re-read.
Fiona Archer, you little minx, where have you been hiding all my life?! I found my favorite new getaway, and that my friends, is King's Bluff, Wyoming! Full of suspense, intrigue, and a whole bunch of sexiness, High-Stakes Loving will take you on a thrill ride of epic proportions. Even though, Fiona is a fairly new author, she has kicked the ass out of this genre, putting her in the same league as Sophie Oak, Lorelei James, and Cherise Sinclair. High-Stakes Loving is Book #2 in the series, but it can be read as a standalone. I haven't read Book #1, Chloe's Double Draw, but after getting a glimpse of these characters, I am ALL OVER IT! Everything about this book had me on the edge of my seat, wondering what was going to happen next. This was very well written, well thought out, and the characters she has created, will have you falling to your knees in no time.
It always adds to the story when you can relate to a character. For me, that was definitely Reagan. Us full-figured gals need to stick together! Reagan is the town librarian who is loved by many. Even though she is stuck with a horrible reputation because of her mother, she still has friends that have her back no matter what. Reagan has this "good girl" behavior that has her quick to please everyone. On the outside she has times where her insecurities show. But one night with two gorgeous, protective men, she succumbs to her natural submission, and with that comes strength and confidence to help her fight her demons.
Mike and Quinn, 2 Ex-SEALS who also happen to be Doms, (SHOCKER, I know) want nothing more than to capture the heart of their sub. Dealing with issues of their own, trying to fight their own demons, could ruin their chances with Reagan. Quinn's past tragedy and personal guilt is getting in the way of his happiness. Mike's personal demon is himself, and the disappointment he feels from his family has been eating at him, making him feel like half a man. Finding Reagan, bringing out her beautiful submission is just the first step in letting everyone heal.
High-Stakes Loving had multiple swooning moments for sure. Beautiful, protective, strong Doms reading erotic romance books in bed with you? Holy Shit! Sign Me Up Now! The love that these three had for each other was breath-taking and just seemed to jump out of the pages. Not only did the main characters have me hooked, but with all the great secondary characters; they just made me even more excited on what will happen next in the great town of King's Bluff.
Normally BDSM is not a genre I read a lot of, in saying that I am so glad I took a chance with this book and series because I loved everything about High Stakes Loving!
Reagan Edwards is the soft spoken librarian in Kings Bluff, Wyoming. But when the things she loves the most are threatened Reagan with a little help from her friends will go into action to protect what is theirs.
Quinn Sullivan and Mike Langley are retired Seals. After Mike is injured in an IED attacked the men decide to move to Kings Bluff and start an investigation business of their own. Both Dominants they have their eyes focused clearly on making one sexy librarian their sub.
When Quinn and Mike walk in on Reagan having a conversation in her library about fantasies they know it’s time to claim their sub. But just as they feel Reagan is accepting of their relationship a town secrets will be revealed that will tear Reagan’s world apart. Then as tragedy is revisited each of them will need to accept their weaknesses and find strength in each other or risk losing everything they have ever wanted.
This was a really good story. I have to say that I love the characters in this series and Reagan, Mike and Quinn were great, each adding their own flavors to the story without overwhelming it.
Reagan grew up in King's Bluff and is best friends with Chloe (the heroine from book #1 Chloe's Double Draw). Her mother disappeared from her life when she was young and her father just died from cancer more recently. She works at the town's library and is shy but very sweet and with a bit of spunk as well. Reagan is short but very curvy, something she's been teased about by the "mean girls" most of her life and hasn't left her with a great self image. She's never been one to step in the limelight but when the situation arises, Reagan steps forward to do what's needed.
Quinn and Mike are ex-SEALs and both friends of Noah & Flynn (heroes from book #1). They left the service when Mike was injured and could no longer be a SEAL. They've both been doing some PI work but Mike isn't sure if that's what he wants to do long term. Mike and Quinn both have issues in their past, Quinn with a tragic incident involving a sister and Mike having an abusive jerk of a dad. One thing they both agree on is that they want Reagan for theirs. They're both Doms and see the natural submission in Reagan (as well as how sweet and pretty she is) and are determined to claim her.
Reagan is working in the library when Karl Wagner comes in wanting to hang his flyer for his bid for a seat on the town counsel. Wagner is a hateful man who is the great-grandson of the man that lost the land the town was founded on to Noah King's great-grandfather in a poker game. Because of the loss of this land, the Wagners are unwilling to move on and have passed down their hatred & jealousy over the lost land all these years, bitter that the town is called King's Bluff instead of Wagner's Bluff. Karl is just as hateful and makes it his goal in life to do anything he can to stick it to the Kings due to his grudge. Because of this, Karl informs Reagan that if he gets elected he has every intention of closing down the library (making Reagan pay for being friends with Chloe who is Noah King's wife). It ends up he has worse plans than just that, planning to use his power to shut down anything the Kings had a part of even if it would cost the town jobs or other benefits. Reagan is freaked at the thought of Karl winning and closing the library so rather than let him run unopposed, Reagan decides to run for office herself. Considering she's shy and rarely puts herself out there this is a rough thing for her but she's determined to do her best. Fortunately she has many friends and supporters that are willing to help. Reagan has been doing her best to avoid Mike and Quinn for the last few months, thinking that they're dangerous to her sanity (but also kind of longing for them to do naughty things to her). Quinn and Mike decide they're done waiting for her to stop hiding so they invite her to a cookout at the ranch, not giving her much of a choice about it and making it quite clear that this is a date.
Reagan is nervous about her first date with Mike and Quinn but does end up admitting her interest in them and when they take her home for the night, Mike and Quinn stay with her and show her about BDSM and what they want out of a sub. Reagan has had no experience but is turned on by the thought of spankings and being tied up and other BDSM type scenarios so she shelves her shyness and objections and goes with it. After the first night they all agree that they liked it and want more. Reagan is willing to admit it's more than sex but isn't sure where things stand and asks for some time to get used to the relationship as it progresses. Mike and Quinn agree but there are some issues that arise and cause a problem for their fledgling relationship. Soon after Reagan, Mike and Quinn become a threesome, Reagan finds out that the body of her mother (who she thought abandoned her and her father) was found and she apparently was murdered. Since her dad isn't alive to give statement of course people seem to automatically see him as the prime suspect so Reagan asks Mike and Quinn to look in to things while the police are investigating and they agreed. Unfortunately the case does cause some problems in the relationship but things do get worked through and Reagan, Quinn and Mike are able to get things back on track. I liked the vibe between this threesome...in book #1 it sometimes felt like Chloe was always on the bottom of the pile when it came to the threesome from that book. In this one it feels like Reagan is more on equal footing with Mike and Quinn and I liked their chemistry and interactions. With the election, the murder investigation and the progressing relationship, Reagan, Mike and Quinn have a lot to deal with and there's some drama where Reagan is in danger and her men have to help save her. Fortunately, with some effort everything gets worked out and the book has a good and satisfying ending with Reagan, Mike and Quinn starting their HEA.
This was a really enjoyable story. I really liked Reagan, Quinn and Mike and liked their story. The story was well written and had a good balance of the romance and action/suspense storylines. It was engaging until the end and I'm really looking forward to the next book in the series...I'm hoping it'll be about Purdy and Caleb but we'll have to wait and see. I'd recommend this book. Thumbs up. :D
I enjoyed the unique town that Archer gave us with King’s Bluff, so I was happy to be in back in her world. This time we get our first American heroes Quinn and Mike who decide to settle down in this unique town and claim the town librarian Reagan for themselves. These Navy SEALS won’t take a no for an answer from Regan and they are determined to claim the beautiful stubborn woman for themselves. She has given them a chase trying to resist their charms and thinking that she is not special. However these Seals have ideas especially after overhearing one of her fantasies.
Regan grew up in the town and loves it however the memories of her past she wants to forget. Her mother disappeared from her life when she was younger and her father recently died from cancer. Her father was dear to her and she never believed that he was responsible for her mother’s disappearance. It a store point as her mother had bit of a reputation and it made her life a hell because of that and her figure. Regan is no skinny girl, she is short and curvy and the mean girls made her life a hell in highschool. It is no surprise that has poor self image and despite her friends telling her otherwise she has kept herself hidden away until a situation that could change the whole town and the past comes back to haunt her
The town pariah from the previous book Karl Wagner has decided to cause more chaos and run for the councilman position and wants to close what is dear to Regan. The library and the youth centre, however she isn’t backing down this time with help from some her friends and it looks everything is looking up for her. Until the past comes to haunt in a big way with her mother’s remains are found and it looks like she has been murdered. With rumours circulating and Wagner ready to strike she turns to her SEAL men in order to get help to stop everything falling apart. However Quinn and Mike have slightly different ideas
Quinn and Mike are PI’s and made this small town their home after Noah and Flynn showed them their hometown. They been waiting to get to know Regan for a while so this opportunity is blessing in a disguise as they love to see Wagner been taken down a notch. Therefore they invite her to a cook out and sparks fly. They went her as a sub and introduce to her to BDSM world but there is a spanner in the works when Regan’s mother is discovered. Regan wants answers and asks them to investigate but they are worried as all signs are pointing to her dead father and they want her forever . It is a sticky situation and it looks like their relationship is about to reaching breaking point.
Archer has done once again, I couldn’t put this book down and I had to discovered whether the truth will be found out, will they have an HEA and would Regan succeed in stopping Wagner. What makes Archer’s books so enjoyable is that she always delves into all the character’s history despite focusing on the female lead more. In this one the guys pasts of their childhood have shaped them and now Mike is questioning working as PI as he feels that he can be more useful doing something for the town.
4,5 couples. A enjoyable instalment to the series and I look forward to see future books about this town and learning more about the plans that were introduced in this book in the series. For more of my reviews, visit Confessions From Romaholics. And drop by the blog's Facebook page
This one was hands down yummylicious! Damn. This book, heck this series, pushes all the right buttons. I mean who wouldn't want two overprotective, alpha male doms to lord over them in the bedroom and perhaps kidnap and tie you up, teasing you and bringing you over the edge for hours and hours as they stake their claim over you.
A smooth-talking bald Texan giant and a dark and brooding wounded warrior had taken up too many of her thoughts, especially at night. When those hours stretched out in silent torture, leaving her with nothing but her fantasies and a vibrator, the images of Quinn Sullivan and Mike Langley had awakened her to a healthy dose of good, old-fashioned lust.
Second time reading this book and it is still amazing. We've got an amazing kidnap scene as well ;) with a good load of forced seduction going on throughout the book.
Mike’s fingers formed a V around her clit. “Your fantasy is to be dominated, by word, action, and thought. Two men, us, kidnap you.” He squeezed his fingers together, pinching her clit.
Mike bent over and licked the top of one nipple. His wet breath fanned her breast. “Tie you good and tight. Gag you so you can’t scream for help, though deep down that’s the last thing you want.”
Yes. Yes. Yes.
Quinn, his voice thick, scratchy, continued. “Keep you gagged while we tease you, fuck you.” His pace quickened with hard, shallow strokes. “Spank your ass when you struggle. Once you’re finally subdued, we’d remove the gag, talk to you, comfort you.”
Sexy as it may be, I still do not like the idea of baring one's soul.
Romance was a thing lived through novels. Caged in the pages of a paperback or locked in an e-reader, the heroes were no real threat to her cozy, albeit boring existence.
Have I also mentioned how much I adore the little nicknames given to both Reagan and Chloe. Not the same old "baby, sweetie, sweetheart, love", we have little reader, little librarian and little one. I'd melt if a badass alpha male called me little one. There's something about the power they hold that makes my legs quiver.
They’d waited long enough to catch her. When he and Mike had her cornered, they’d take their time and show her how a real Dom cherishes a woman, right after ruffling a few of her sub feathers.
She opened her mouth. “I still think—”
“Eleven, Reagan.” Quinn hooked his finger underneath her chin and with his thumb held her firmly in place. “Don’t try to head out by yourself, sugar, or you’ll learn exactly what it’s like to be thrown over a warrior’s shoulder.”
A giggle echoed from behind the shelves.
Those big blue eyes of hers widened. Adorable.
No way was he leaving without claiming those lips.
And despite being a quiet librarian, Regan is pretty kickass herself and the girl got sass! Love a girl with sass ;) Bet Quinn and Mike got their hands full with her.
Who said tough guys weren’t vulnerable. The tiny woman had captured his heart and brought him to his knees emotionally and physically. And dammit it, he wouldn’t have it any other way.
Definitely smoking hot. Can't wait for the rest of the series to be out!
Edit: 3rd time reading this series. I can't wait for Purdy's story!
I received this book for free in exchange for an honest review. This does not affect my opinion of the book or the content of my review.
This will have to a quick review, because now that I have read High-Stakes Loving, the second book in Fiona Archer’s King’s Bluff, Wyoming series, I must pack my bags. You see, I have to move to King’s Bluff because the men there are loving, caring, protective, handsome, sexy, alpha and Doms. I need to move quickly before all the single men are taken.
But seriously, I loved this book for so many reasons beyond the obvious of the wonderful men that Ms. Archer writes about. I also love the female characters because of their wonderful traits. They are caring, smart, sassy, and independent. Reagan is the perfect example of this. While she may be the stereotypical shy librarian, underneath she has a core of steel that allowed her to survive childhood bullying and caring for her dying father. It’s also that steel core that allows her to be the perfect sub for two Alphas. Quinn and Mike don’t have it easy convincing Reagan that she is the woman they want and the two set out to prove to her that she is worthy.
The journey these three go through to reach their happy ending was intriguing. Each of them had their own personal demons to overcome before they could reach their happy ending. It was these demons that made these characters real for me. We all have that inner voice that we try to ignore and doubts that plague us. I loved how each member of the trio helped the others overcome those doubts. Their love and support for each other earned my admiration.
Ms. Archer has an amazing ability to write about serious issues yet still include enough humor to keep things from being overwrought. As in real life, it is always the humor that keeps us going and so I enjoy being able to laugh while reading. Lines such as “You’ve backed away from Reagan like she’s just confessed to being a fan of One Direction” or “You have seriously underestimated my capacity to turn into the Domonster from hell” have earned Ms. Archer a very ardent fan.
It is also the relationships between friends that draws me to King’s Bluff. Whether it’s the friendship between Reagan and her girlfriends Chloe and Purdy, or the guys’ tight relationships, Ms. Archer gives just as much attention to these relationships as she does to the romance. Even the protective nature of Regan’s relationship with her childhood friends Caleb and Jackson made me smile.
In fact, I found myself smiling throughout reading because the story flows so naturally and easily that time seems to fly by as I’m reading. High-Stakes Loving is great escapism reading which is always appreciated after the demands of real life get to be too much. There are so many secondary characters in the series so Ms. Archer should be able to keep the readers entertained for a long time. And since I can’t really move to King’s Bluff, I guess that a long series is the best that I can hope for. So who’s up next? I guess we will just have to wait and see.
Holy Hell Hot Freaking Dom's!!! Reading this second book in the series I was just as captivated in this one as I was the first, even more so actually.
Reagan, our lovely heroine, is a tough gal. She has been dealt a hand that is not necessarily a winner to begin with but she makes the best of it. She allows her mind to be filled with fantasies she reads within her beloved books. She has attracted the attention of two very sexy, very protective, very dominate ex special forces, Mike and Quinn, who have made it their mission to capture her and make her theirs. Come to find out their mission and her fantasy are one in the same.
Mike and Quinn, both have their own demons to battle through but set their focus on the quiet and shy librarian, whom they find is hiding an arsenal of kinky fantasies that they are only too willing to make come true for her. Being the support system for one another for so many years, has allowed them to form a unique bond of brotherhood, which only strengths when Reagan is caught between them. Two men who are not used to failing a mission refuse to fail now, in earning the love and trust of their little reader.
Reagan being a local to Kings Bluff, grew up in the small town. Every small town has it's scandals and Kings Bluff is no exception, but soon Reagan finds herself and her family history in the middle of that scandal and a mystery that is sure to rock the town and her. Everything she believed to be true has been ripped out from under her and she has to take the biggest gamble of her life, does she fight for her town, her family and her fantasy come true or does she fold and walk away?
I was able to relate to Reagan ALOT in this story. As someone who reads the erotic romance fantasizing about the heroes in the books, wishing that they could be real, but even thinking that if they are they would never want a gal like me. Reagan struggles with the same thing; never thinking she's pretty enough, thin enough, smart enough to capture a mans attention no less hold, she has a hard time accepting that not only does she have one man, but two who find her completely fascinating. All they want to do is love her, take care of her, protect her, with out her giving up who she truly is. I have to say that I LOVED these guys. They are amazing, and even though they are major Alphas trained to do battle and are use to getting their way, even they recognize when a new plan of attack may be needed or slight surrender is called for. I cried several times in this book and it's been a while since I've had a book bring me to tears. The emotion struggle will touch your heart and the internal strength will grab hold of you throughout this story.
I received this smoking, sexy as hell book from the author for an honest review.
HOLY HELL!!! Ok so IF you have read Chloe's Double Draw by this author you know what you are gonna be in for....sexy, mega alpha men who are going to win their sub at allll costs. I feel in love with Chloe's book and have been harping Fiona for the next book. She sent it to me and I sat, slowly savioring every singel page, chapter, and scene......It. Did. Not. Dissappoint!! In Chloe's book we meet Librarian Reagan and the two holy as hell sexy ex Seals Mike and Quinn. I must admit I am totally draw to both men, like Reagan, for their seperate personalities. I mean Mike is not Mr. Sensitive or hearts and flowers guy but he loves to cook. Quinn is more the hearts and flowers guy but he is all facts not emotion when investigating. They are sooooo perfectly matched for her. OMG I just loved them....I mean I may even love them more the Noah and Flynn...GASP don't repeat that statement!! LOL The guys were drawn to Reagan in the 1st book so I will thrilled to learn of their relationship in this book.
Reagan is attracted to the men but keeps running and hiding from them. She wants them but is more affraid of appearances. When the guys finally "claim" her for a first date I loved the scene!! It was great. Then to see Noah and Flynn with their sub Chloe happy at the picnic was amazing!!! The 3 have amazing chemistry and alot of hot menage scenes as well as seperate times together. They all fit together perfectly as a "family".
The drama of the story I presumed would be all about Reagan fighting the DB Karl for a city council seat to save the town. I was thrilled when it made a total turn in to a murder that the guys were investigating. This investigation caused some issues for them and there is a major "cool off period" between the 3. However, when the guys are through with the drama, they fight to get their girl back....and what a great scene it was!!!
If you like menage, suspense-thrillers, love stories, alpha man, fun girl power, and all that stuff...this is a book for you!! I am sooo dying to find out who is next? Caleb? or the Mackenzie Brothers? I have to admit, I dont care who it is as long as we get to read it soooooon!!!
Fiona Archer delivered a well written storyline filled with suspense, sexiness and hot as hell alpha males in Chloe's Double Draw leading us straight into the hands of High Stakes Loving. We have had a glimpse at the mystery surrounding Mike, Quinn and Reagan and we couldn't wait to dive in. If you loved CDD you won't be disappointed!
Reagan is reserved yet tough, she's the town librarian being from a small town there are slim pickings when it comes to men. She is the leader of a book club, wondering what it would be like for one of her fantasies to become a reality. Those fantasies are in reach with two sexy alpha DOMS on the hunt for her.
"That’s right. Two deadly predators on the hunt.”
Mike and Quinn are two ex SEALS, they're best friends and also DOMS. Both of these mean have baggage from their past that continues to haunt each of them. Laying eyes on Reagan she would be the perfect sub, she would fit them perfectly. They have made it their mission to capture her and make her theirs.
Reagan is attracted to both Mike and Quinn but allowing herself to give into her desires isn't that simple, she has insecurities about herself and scandals from her past are holding her back.
"Sometimes a lady doesn’t recognize a good thing until it’s proven to her beyond all doubt. Once she sees there’s nothing to be afraid of, she’ll embrace that new opportunity.”
Reagans world is rocked when an issue from her past resurfaces. Mike and Quinn would do anything to protect her, Reagan uses their skills as private investigators to find the truth. Mike and Quinn rely on the facts in front of them but delivering the news to Reagan could destroy everything.
Mike, Quinn and Reagan have more than just a relationship, they have a foundation, one they can rely on and count on for support from each other, whether it's asked for or not. Separately and together they help each other overcome their pasts building a stronger relationship.
We really enjoy Fiona's writing, she doesn't focus just on the heroine, the story line is equally divided giving you the perfect balance of history and present. We love the way the book has been written with sections coming from each character's POV. There are steamy erotic moments followed, moments that will touch you and moments that will have you on the edge of your seat dying to know what happens next.
Bring on Surrender to Chance!
*ARC kindly provided in exchange for an honest opinion, thank you.
This is book two in the Kings Bluff, Wyoming series by Fiona Archer. If you follow my reviews, you know I loved book one, Chloe’s Double Draw (If you don’t, what are you CRAZY???), it had one of my all time favorite quotes in it. Will I find and equally awesome quote in this book? Will it meet the high expectations set in book one? You’ll have to read on to find out!
HSL can be read as a stand alone, Reagan and her men, Mike and Quinn are all introduced in the first book, but there is nothing that you can’t pick up by jumping right into this book.
I’m not going to bore you with rehashing the synopsis of the book you can read it on Amazon, I hate a book report review! This is a book that explores both a BDSM relationship, as well as a menage relationship. Also, where the heck are all these towns with the hot Doms roaming around everywhere? I’m just sayin’!!
The story also touches on several other issues like Mike and Quinn’s past in the military and them finding their way back into a normal routine. Quinn has a different set of issues to overcome. Reagan has lived in King’s Bluff her entire life, and she is living in the shadow of a mother that was known for abandoning her. She struggles with a weight issue, and in turn has low self esteem. What Fiona Archer does with this story is so moving, that it almost brought tears to my eyes. I really wish more authors would touch on this, rather than give us perfect female characters.
Another thing that I loved about this book, and I often struggle with in Menage romances , is that I the two male characters tend to blend together or they don’t really stand out for me. One guy tends to take the lead and the other will take a back seat and not really “do anything” for most of the story. But both of these guys were really strong characters, and they each had a great part to play in the storyline, and while it seemed like Quinn was the go to guy for a while, Mike really kind of stepped up and took the lead toward the end!
Overall, this was an amazing book, and I totally loved it. Now.... For the quote!! Fiona is absolutely hilarious. There are several funny exchanges that are way to long to go into, but I have to share this one quote that had me giggling:
“You’ve backed away from Reagan like she’s just confessed to being a fan of One Direction”
4 1/2 Stars All righty then, I usually don't read books that are BDSM, but since I adore Fiona Archer's personality on Facebook and how so many of my BDSM reading friends love her books, I decided to take the proverbial plunge into her world of King's Bluff, Wyoming and I am pleasantly surprised that I did.
Retired Navy SEALS, Quinn and Mike have had their eye on Reagan, the curvaceous librarian for some time, but Reagan runs the other way whenever she sees these two foreboding looking hot men. Not for long though, for when Quinn and Mike realize that Reagan needs to be theirs, she doesn't have a chance outrunning these very competent Doms, and in reality, being caught by these two men is secretly a dream Reagan has been having. Reagan has a lot going on in her little town. When she discovers that her brute of a nemesis, Karl Wagner, is running for the town council and no one is running against the man that wants to close her beloved library, Reagan decides that she needs to put a stop to that by entering the race.
Once the ever-second guessing herself Reagan begins to open up and accept what Quinn and Mike have in store for her, a shocking discovery from her past comes to nip any confidence she was building in the bud, and has her rejecting the two men who more than anything want her to be theirs and to be happy. Mike and Quinn are at a loss at first for Reagan's motivation for summarily dismissing them without so such a quaking in fear of the Master Doms. After some enlightenment however, they set about getting Reagan back in their arms and helping her find the truth from her past that could change what she always felt for her parents. The three must come to terms with their pasts in order to be open to a future together.
What an enjoyable read from the feisty Fiona Archer! This book is teeming with intrigue, suspense and some pretty hot romance to go along with those steamy scenes of domination. Reagan is is a fabulous heroine attempting to overcome her adversities, and when you throw the sexy Seals, Quinn and Mike into the mix, High Stakes Loving is all the better. Thank you Fiona Archer for easing me into King's Bluff, I will be visiting again.
It’s no secret that I have highly recommended Fiona’s first book in this series (Chloe’s Double Draw) and repeatedly praised the exceptional talent shown in her debut novel. So, my thoughts now after this second instalment? If Fiona Archer hasn’t cemented her place along side authors such as Sophie Oak, Chloe Lang and Cherise Sinclair, then people have no appreciation of the genre! Ménage and dominant alpha men may not be to everyone’s liking, but I for one say, “Where can I get me some of that!” Full of the sassy one-liners, loads of laughter, and moments of heartbreaking reality and loss, this story will keep you up all night and have you cursing at the end that you’ve turned the last page. The characters of King’s Bluff, Wyoming are charismatic, funny, quirky, and loyal to a fault; they’ll have you shouting for joy, fist pumping the air, crying as they hurt, and wishing you could hold them close when they’re suffering the most. Selfish, I know; but I can’t wait to return to King’s Bluff again and visit with the wonderful people who call this extraordinary place home. Congratulations to Ms Archer on her brilliant second novel!
Footnote:
If you aren’t familiar with the concept of BDSM; for those who live the lifestyle, whether it be in the privacy of their own home, within a club environment or an occasional group gathering, the one thing that remains the same is the non-flexible rule of “SAFE, SANE & CONSENSUAL”. The reason I felt the need to explain this? I often have people ask if the books I recommend would be categorised as “light or heavy” BDSM. I’m not inclined to define this story as either or; as I personally believe the definition is dependent entirely on your particular hard limits. Moreover, my advice to anyone not sure if this genre is for them; please make sure that you read the synopsis of any book you intend to start. You only have yourself to blame if it isn’t to your liking; NOT THE AUTHOR!
What’s not to love about two former SEALs swooping in and taking the sweet & stubborn purestdelightawardlibrarian for their own? High Stakes Loving by Fiona Archer is an excellent follow up to Book 1 in her King’s Bluff, Wyoming series.
After befriending the town’s librarian, Quinn and Mike realize she is the one for them. They set out to claim her as their own. Along the way, past tragedies are brought forth and tension between the three arises. Working out their issues and coming to terms with their pasts, the three grow together to overcome all obstacles.
Reagan is a very stubborn, yet shy and sweet woman. She is someone that I would be friends with in real life. There was one scene that made me want to smack her a wee bit (just a little tap), so I thoroughly enjoyed what Quinn and Mike did to get her to answer their questions (evil grin). It was great fun for the rest of us anyway!
Quinn must fight demons from his past in order to reconcile his role in Reagan’s life. Mike’s own issues are heartbreaking. I am glad to have gotten to witness their journeys. Together, the three form their own perfect family in a town that is accepting of this type of relationship.
The references to other authors’ books were so sweet and the perfect touch with Reagan being the town’s librarian. High Stakes Loving is a great book that made me happy and sad and excited! I love a book that I can “feel” what is going on… I was not disappointed at all.
Miss Archer includes romance, suspense and hot “high stakes loving” that should not be missed.
Reagan is a good girl that suffers from living in a small town. Everyone is up in her business about her parents and their past. The mystery behind her mom missing and the beloved memory of her father is all being brought out in the open for an eager audience of concerned and not-so-concerned citizens all at the same time.
Quinn and Mike are hot, yummy ex-Navy SEALs that have made a home in King’s Bluff, Wyoming. They are ready to settle down and want Reagan with them. Both Mike and Quinn have baggage to deal with before the end of the story. Mike is recovering from an injury and sorting out what he wants to do with his life now that he has begun to heal. Quinn is coping with a secret from his past, one that leaves him with a fear of failing those close to him.
The men were a perfect match to Reagan. They did what they could to help and protect her but when it came down to it they laid it all out on the table and supported her with the decisions that she made. And though some of the scenarios were obviously not a true to life, every day happening the way it was written made it feel like it could have happened in any small town in the USA.
*Random side note: Sometimes when reading a ménage the men tend to appear too similar, or even worse, one plays a stronger role in the book and the second man tends to take on a role more of a secondary character. I am happy to report that this did not occur in Archer’s book.
I thoroughly enjoyed “High-Stakes Loving” and am already waiting for the next book in the series.
Reviewer's Note: Full review was originally posted on my website Ramblings and Reviews.
From the first moment former SEALs Quinn and Mike saw librarian Reagan they knew one day she would be theirs. Reagan however has led them on a merry chase, she doesn't seem to be overly interested in being caught until both Quinn and Mike lay their plans out there. Of course when they overhear one of Reagan's fantasies, they are going to do everything in their power to make it come true.
Once Reagan accepts them it should be a smooth road for their newly developed relationship, but an issue from the past is coming back to haunt her and she finds herself and her mine divided over it. Quinn and Mike know Reagan has a lot on her plate, but they are ready to commit and they will do what they need to do to keep Reagan theirs.
The second in the King's Bluff series. Reagan is a bit shy but she is also, when provoked, a firecracker. This story had a mystery that I really enjoyed, it was a surprise and it also introduced future characters that I can't wait to read about. Entertaining read.
I'm glad I found this author! I loved her second book in the King's Bluff series! Ms. Archer has a wonderful way of exposing a character's strengths and vulnerabilities at the same time. Her characters are strong yet flawed and working on it. Great character and story development, and well written and edited. This is a menage story that is fantasy worthy. The men are strong ex-SEALs, all alpha, protective, romantic, and very dominant. They go after what they want and failure isn't an option. In this case they want a beautiful, intelligent, and courageous woman named Reagan who hasn't had an easy life but is a strong, caring, compassionate women with lots of submissive tendancies but zero BDSM experience. Mike and Quinn are of course happy to show her the ropes. LOL If you love strong alpha men, intelligent women, hot sex, and menage dynamics with lots of sweet romance, this is a must read.
Love, love, love this book and this series!! Both books in the series can be read as stand alones although it's better to read in sequence since characters in book one are mentioned in book 2. I SO want to live in this town. The characters are endearing, loving, funny and crazy at times. I like the ex-military aspect of Mike and Quinn, I relate to the struggles that Reagan has with her body image, Reagan living with the disappearance of her mother, and King's Bluff residents that support each other. I adore that Fiona Archer has written about believable characters that don't have perfect bodies and a town that has many facets to it. This book has many twists and turns, quite a few very very very hot Doms, loving menage relationships, some very steamy scenes, and of course an HEA that brings a big smile to your face. You will enjoy the book!!
Well, I fell in Love with King's Bluff in the first book of the series. Imagine living in a place where most people are friendly and being able to live your private life that may be a bit unconventional to others out in the open? Like women having two men. Granted it may not be everyone's cup of tea, but it caught my attention.
High Stakes Loving continues along those lines with a fun BDSM theme and two Doms.
Fiona has a way of drawing a reader in and living through her main character. Lots of fun and naughtiness. Her female leads are strong women who aren't afraid to stand up for themselves or to their Doms.
This is such an amazing story! Kings Bluff is a town you immediately fall in love with! Reagan is such a reserved woman but with the help of Mike & Quinn they soon have her changing her ways! I loved that each of these characters brought out the good qualities in one another and that they complimented each other so well. As I was delving deeper in the story I found I was excited about the secondary characters and look forward to reading their stories as well and to me a great writer always keeps you wanting more and this is one of those stories that did it for me!
I read the first book in the series and loved it so much, I raced off and bought the next.
We met Reagan, Quinn, and Mike in Chloe's story, Chloe's Double Draw. Straight away, we knew things were going to be interesting between these three. These three make a great relationship. I love how the author's male characters are tough guys but are extremely loving and gentle with the women they love, well, gentle when needed, that is. The author writes a great book with steam, suspense, BDSM, menage, and a happy ever after. What isn't there to like about a book like that?
Another amazing story in Kings Bluff by Fiona. I would suggest reading Chloe's Double Draw, the first book in the King's Bluff series first, where you will first meet Quinn, Mike, the shy librarian Reagan and many other characters.
This book is the coming together of Mike, Quinn and Reagan in a wonderful love story. You will not be disappointed.
Fiona Archer did a fantastic job with this book. The characters were exceptionally well written. I found myself really relating to the heroine. I was especially pleased with how the heroes were able to help her overcome her self esteem issues in a passionate and caring way. The plot was gripping and this book kept me up into the wee hours. All in all I highly recommend it to others. Well Done Ms. Archer,
That was really good and surprisedly very sweet as well
I truly had no idea where the book was going but knew that the three characters were intriguing. I completely enjoyed Reagan, Quinn and Mike. They each had their own unique personality and it was embraced by the other two, rather than made to conform
This town has lots of interesting characters in it, but the story is still focused on our three main heroes, and that was fine as they were more than enough to keep you interested!
Really love Fiona Archer's take on a BDSM ménage relationship. She writes gorgeous alpha males and interesting and inspiring sex scenes. I did find with this book however that the relationship building between Mike Quinn and Reagan overshadowed the murder of Reagan's mother and her attempt to be voted in as the town's new councillor. Both story plots were only really given lip service for the majority of the middle section of the book. Otherwise a good read.
I loved this book as well as her first. If you haven't read it you really should. I think I would be like the ladies of Reagan's book club and let Mike and Quinn catch me too. Nothing like living out a fun capture fantasy!
2 ex-SEAL's & a curious librarian - what's not to like?
I loved the characters - Reagan is a heroine/character fully developed, as were Quinn & Mike, although I just wish there'd been a touch more on their background (not a criticism, just a curious wish).
Only one complaint - the story wasn't long enough! :-)
First, I am in love with King's Bluff, Wyoming and would glady pack my bags and move there!! The second book in this series is truly fantastic. Miss Archer blends romance and suspense with hot lovin'!! I am grateful to have discovered Fiona Archer and will continue following this series and anything else she writes for that matter.
Fiona you have done it again! Great story. I didn't expect who the bad guy was. OMG Quinn and Mike are a couple of hot men and Reagan is a very strong woman. Love the series and I can't wait for the next one.
Another wonderful addition to the King's Bluff family!! I absolutely love the hot, sexy Doms and the feisty sub that Fiona writes about. I loved that Quinn, Mike and Reagan fight for their HEA and finally get it. I am looking forward to more stories from this author.
