Ruby never planned to return to Lancaster (England), but when her aunt suddenly falls into a coma she has little choice. Aunty Ann's Bakery can't afford to close during the busiest point of the year, not with Christmas fast approaching. Despite barely being able to make brownies by herself Ruby has to step in and take her aunt's place. She's surprised when several customers are people she knew from high school. Getting to re-know her once friends (& teenage crush) isn't something she expected to enjoy. Will Justice looks even better in his 30s (no matter how much she tries to ignore it), and Erica is now an aerial and pole fitness instructor. Ruby gets roped into beginner's classes and steps outside her comfort zone. Between visiting Blackpool, baking, and visiting the pub, her previous crush is returning with force.Though something isn't right. Between a bizarre egg attack, smashed windows, and a supposed family member returning, Ruby finds herself potentially trapped in a strange conspiracy. Especially as her aunt still hasn't woken and no one knows why.
Sugar Sweet and Whiskey Sour was both sweet and a little sour.
This was a cute Christmastime story set in a bakery with a cute slow burn romance.

The sweet:
I loved the bakery setting. It was well described so I could really picture what it was like while I read. It’s fun to read about a bakery during the holidays, and as the main character learns how to run a bakery, it really helps the reader understand the bakery experience without going right over your head.
Occasionally, between chapters, there would be a recipe, which was a charming addition to the reading experience.
The slow burn romance was really cute and the build up was good!
Nonbinary representation! There was a great nonbinary side character, which was a delight to have.
In general, this book felt like it expressed more modern views than a lot of holiday romances, which was a real breath of fresh air.
The (slightly) sour:
The story didn’t always flow. It felt a bit stilted and it didn’t feel like a natural progression.
The beginning starts a little bland, so it was hard to get in to it. It did get better as it went, though!
It didn’t always keep my attention. The subject matter was great, but the energy wasn’t always there.
The ending felt a bit rushed, I would’ve liked to have more to close it out.
Overall, I think this was a fine modern holiday romance with a very cute setting.
A cute but long kinda second chance romance. Ruby is forced to move back home. Her job in London is closing it's doors and she has no choice but to go home. She also finds out that her Aunt is in the hospital in a coma. So she heads back to help her Aunt and keep her bakery open. She meets old friends and her crush. But there is something sinister involved in the bakery and Aunt Ann's sudden illness. I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.
If slow burn would have a definition, it would be this book. (Sad panda) However, I loved how it has a lot of suspense surrounding Aunt Ann, and it makes me feral that we have to wait for the next book to know the truth. The only thing that I hope we get more of in the next book is more intimate scenes with Will and Ruby.
I was lucky to read this book as an ARC. I really enjoyed this book. Can Ruby keep the Bakery afloat? What happened Aunty Ann? Is someone responsible for her recent hospitalization? Is someone targeting her. This is a must read!
A delightful cozy mystery with a bakery and plenty of suspense around Aunt Ann. The slow burn is real, but I’m eager for more Ruby and Will in the next book!
