Ben Hoare is an author and editor who specializes in natural history. He has written or contributed to more than 40 reference books. His work has also appeared in BBC Wildlife and Birdwatch magazines and on BBC websites. He is a Fellow of the Zoological Society in London and presents regular talks and lectures at the Natural History Museum, London.

Such a beautiful book that's appropriate for children and adults alike. What an amazing and beautiful world we live in!!

Each bird gets a full page spread with both a photograph and an illustration. There isn't much text to read for each bird. Each bird has some basic info plus some amazing fact about the bird that made me say "WOW" basically every time, haha. Scattered throughout you also get some page spreads about a specific topic instead of one specific bird (e.g. eggs, feathers, nests, etc.) It's not too heavy on the info like a textbook but it's also not too simple in my opinion.

Die Bücher der Reihe „Wundervolle Welt“ bestechen durch ihre hochwertige Aufmachung und die Fokussierung auf Besonderheiten der gezeigten Welt. In diesem Fall wird der Leserschaft die wundervolle Welt der Vögel präsentiert.

Ein Hauptteil des Buchs besteht darin, dass einzelne Vögel vorgestellt werden. Dies geschieht mittels großflächiger Fotografie, die mit einem kleinen verständlichen Text untermalt ist. Dabei werden bekannte Vögel, wie das Rotkehlchen oder die Wasseramsel ebenso vorgestellt, wie kleine Exoten wie z.B. der Mexikotagschläfer oder der Siedelweber.

Aufgelockert wird das Buch mit der Beschreibung der allgemeingültigen Eigenschaften der Vögel, wie z.B. die Federn, Eier oder Flügel. Das ergibt natürlich kein umfassendes Gesamtbild, vermittelt aber die Grundlagen dessen, was einen Vogel aus- und besonders macht.

Ich finde gut, dass sowohl Fotografien wie auch Illustrationen genutzt werden, um die Vögel vorzustellen. So bekommt der Leser eine Idee davon, wo und wie der vorgestellte Vogel lebt. Das wird durch die hochwertige Aufmachung unterstrichen, denn das Buch ist wie alle Bücher der Reihe etwas besonderes. Die Haptik macht bei diesen Büchern einiges aus, denn beim Umblättern hat der Leser immer das Gefühl, ein einzigartiges Buch in den Händen zu halten.

Bisher war ich von allen Büchern der Reihe „Wundervolle Welt“ begeistert und die Welt der Vögel macht da keine Ausnahme. Die Bücher zeigen zwar nicht umfassend in Gänze die betitelte Welt, aber durch die wertige Präsentation zeigen sie anhand ausgewählter Beispiele, was sie ausmacht. Für Kinder genau richtig, die gerne durch derartige Bücher stöbern.
