Houston PI Corie McKenna spearheads investigations by day and relaxes by writing country music lyrics at night. But when a routine divorce case turns into murder and Corie finds herself tangled in a web of greed and deception, even the most soothing ballad won't slow her down. Struggling to prove her obnoxious client is innocent, Corie follows a trail from a seedy warehouse to the medical center's disinfected hallways, and finally to a men's club, where she makes a disturbing personal discovery. Attorney Wade Alexander urges her to bow out, but an unsettling truth hits far too close to home and cannot be ignored – a revelation that may well cost Corie her life.
Kay Finch is a Pennsylvania native but, as her husband likes to say, she got to Texas as fast as she could. She has worked as a legal assistant in Houston for the past seventeen years, beginning in the criminal law arena at Richard 'Racehorse' Haynes' firm before turning to a specialization in family law.
I really enjoyed the first novel of the Corie McKenna PI Mystery Series. Mystery and Detective novels are a favorite choice and I looked forward to the new approach of a female private investigator working in association with law offices as many seem to be associated with insurance companies. Also to stir up the characterization a little out of the ordinary, investigator Corie McKenna is a young widow, pet-lover, a great mentor to a neighbor's child, AND loves to write lyrics. Above every chapter heading, there is a 4-line lyric offering that also captures the ongoing storyline.
I can't wait to continue reading this series. So delighted that "Final Cut" (Corie McKenna Mystery, 2) is available. It's definitely on my "wish-to-read" list.
Kay Finch's book "Final Decree" was an excellent novel about a Private Investigator in Texas who is placed on a murder case and ends up solving several mysteries, including one close to her heart.
It was well written, good strong dialog, and you felt like you were with her during the entire book.
