English translation: Intoxicated
I picked this up because the premise sounded hilarious based on the summary, but it wasn't funny at all. Instead it was a super fluffy and sweet slice of life story. And when I say sweet, I'm not joking. It felt like I was force fed bucket loads of sugar, as the main couple gets together about halfway into the story and the rest of the story is a bunch of sappiness. If that's your cup of tea, go for it, but it was too much for me.
I was really tempted to drop the story, but given how short it was, I decide to force myself to keep reading and ended up skimming a lot of the last third of the story.
The premise is that the Lu Ze was dumped by his girlfriend, who thinks she may have a crush on her female roommate. To drown out his sorrows, Lu Ze goes drinking at a bar, where he meets Liang Xiao, a boyfriend for hire, as Liang Xiao is accompanying a client. In a fit of drunkenness, Lu Ze decides to hire Liang Xiao, who usually sticks with female clients, to take care of him. And so begins their relationship.
While they initially start off in a provider/client relationship, they slowly become friends, and Lu Ze realizes that he's started developing feelings for his fake boyfriend. There's a lot of confusion and "omg did Liang Xiao bend me" type of questions, which I personally found too repetitive. Of course, the romance doesn't start immediately, as given the nature of Liang Xiao's job, he's hesitant to get into a relationship. But once it starts, it's always pure sugar all the way through. There's very little in terms of conflict, either between the main couple or externally, after they get together, so I found it quite boring.
Anyways, I would recommend this for anyone looking for a short fluffy slice of life to read. But personally it's not my cup of tea.
