In the chilling sequel to Watch Me, former FBI agent Jay Fletcher is forced to leave the Witness Security Program when the notorious serial killer "Billy Bones" escapes from a mental hospital and challenges her to a cross-country game of manhunting and murder. Reprint.
Chamäleon was an ok-read, a thriller with a lot of foreseeable elements. I read it a while ago and I can't remember the names of the main characters anymore, which is just a pretty good indicator that this book hasn't been anything special. There are better thrillers treating similar topics out there. Still a good book for train/bus rides or waiting times.
The first book in the series was "Watch me" the 2nd is "Catch Me" In the 1st book, Jay Fletcher, FBI agent, becomes a hunter of serial killers - she hunts them down and kills them - in other words, she goes "rogue" :) Her final serial killer was Billy Bones - she helped catch him and put him in jail. Then she goes into a Witness Protection Program to live a "normal " life. BUT... Billy Bones escapes - and sends a message to Jay - because she is the one who caught him. Billy believes himself to by the son of Charles Manson - in other words, Billy is a psycho and his character is intelligent and very very scary. Before he was caught, Billy was an anthropologist at the Museum. JAy and Billy are both computer experts
The entire book is about Jay tracking down Billy with the obscure clues that he leaves for her- I should say Jay and a reluctant Marshall named Dane. It is a cleverly written book The mystery isn't trying to figure out "who" - because we know "who' from the first page. It is more a psychological mystery of what the clues mean - how Jay interprets them, and the "game" is on. The book also gives insight into the mind and reasoning of the serial killer and there are not too many authors who do that.
A solid four stars. Fast, intense action. Excellent plot with diverse characters, adding to the suspenseful twists. However, while I admired the gutsy intelligence of Jay, the slayer and pursuer of scum-suckers... the author insulted the reader by allowing her to make several asinine, juvenile mistakes; mistakes that a woman of her caliber and survivor's experience would never make. It cheapened my reading satisfaction... but did allow the author to conclude the story.
Started and finished date - 30.05.25 to 02.06.25. My rating - Three Stars. I like is book but I didn't love it and I found it bit boring also The cover of book was okay. The writing was it was hard to follow and it took some time to get used too. The mystery was okay and the atmosphere was fine but bit bland. The paced of plot was well structured and steady paced. I mixed about the characters and they need flash out bit more.
If you enjoy a good crime thriller, you would probably enjoy this book. While it is a bit of a longer read it is still pretty interesting. there are plenty of twists and turns and questions that you want answered to keep you reading. Also there's plenty of the detective creative thinking that everybody loves.
Great book. The second in a series, Catch Me is a suspense-filled novel which remains taunt as a guitar string from page one to the last page. There are NO wasted pages! Disgraced police investigator, serial killer, deadly cat and mouse moves, this novel has it all. I highly recommend.
I can usually keep reading, even when something is unbelieveable, but in this book a rogue FBI agent becomes a serial killer (killing only other serial killers of course) and somehow gets cleared of all the charges and winds up in the witness protection program. Then, another serial killer whom she helped put away, manages to hack into the witness protection computer program from inside the prison, find her, escape from prison and then demand that only she be allowed to track him down. The FBI bows to the serial killer's demands, puts her on the case and our story is underway. Seriously?
I enjoyed the storyline of the book, but it is not a book that grips the reader. A nice read, but one that was easy to put down and leave. Thus it took me a while to finish the book as other books had more priority (library books) over one I own.
Janet (Jay) Fletcher is a conflicted ex-cop who comes to terms with who she really is while chasing a killer (Billy Bones). In the course of her current life, she meets Jack Dane and Harry Maxwell, who both help her get her man.
This is one a series of books about Jay Fletcher that's looking for the body of her daughter. Goes through many adventures, and this one in particular was unbelievably written well! I'd recommend it as a thriller that'll keep you reading even when you're supposed to be working ;P
Jay Fletcher, brilliant computer hacker and FBI agent tracks down serial killers. Not badly written, I glanced at it again just before adding it to my list and computer crimes don't hold up well. A J Holt is also known as Christopher Hyde.
Holy s**t is this book good! Gore and horror all thrown into one! I love this book! I dont normally read murder mysteries but wow this book was GOOD! AWESOME! I actually can't think of what to say, except READ THE BLOODY BOOK! AND SEE FOR YOURSELF!
Very Good; former FBI agent who had been a vigilante going after serial killers, is stalked by one whom she hadn't killed, forcing her to go back after him.
