I had a great roommate, and I was hooking up with a basketball player. Then life happened, and my whole trajectory changed. Gone was the hook-up. Gone was the roommate. My new goal in life wasn’t to enjoy it. It was to get through each day by being blissfully numb.
It was working. Until I woke up in my ex’s bed one morning. No purse. No phone. No keys. No memory of what happened.
First things first: I needed to get my ex off my vagi—back. I needed to get him off my back. I needed to get my things. I wasn’t sure if I wanted to remember the night before, but my ex was suddenly reminding me how he’s overbearing, arrogant, demanding, and hot.
Damn. He’s still so hot. He’s also making me remember things that could have disastrous consequences. For him. For me. And most certainly for my heart…
* A Christmas Song is a Ryan’s Bed + spin-off novella because it is written from Mackenzie’s point of view and Maren’s point of view (Mackenzie’s roommate.) Both girls will take the reader on the day after from the fallout of a prior night’s event and the end will surprise everyone. * Expect lots of Ryan and Mackenzie, but also get ready for Maren and Cristiano!
God if you have read Ryan's bed you need to read this. This story gave me all the extras I wanted and didn't know I needed after Ryan's Bed. It has action, love, suspense and that all in a novella. I'm so happy this story is out there, also how it talks about important issues.
A lot of my reviews are also available with photo at my Bookstagram: @justmyfantasyworld
This is a great novella featuring Mac and Ryan from Ryan’s bed and two new characters (chris and maren) who are room mates with them in college. It was also a great excuse to re read Ryan’s bed before this one and re acquainting myself with that great book as well. Looking at mental health is never easy but this story does it well. Thinking about how we go on after someone else leaves, how we manage how we cope , and how we heal.
Not my favorite Tijan book. I didn’t like the alternating POV and got frustrated at times when it would switch from Maren to Mackenzie especially during those really big moments and emotional scenes. I’m not really sure I understand why Cris didn’t do more when things got so messed up between him and Maren. We have Ryan admonishing her and making her feel like shit for how things played out but did Cris even do anything at the time? It wasn’t very obvious to people that Maren was spiraling? Ryan and Mac obviously had a bunch going on but did Cris? I did like the drama but it’s hard because we’re seeing things that are 9-10 months after things originally went down between Maren and Cris. We don’t get to see it all and it just didn’t feel fully fleshed out to me.
I loved the emotional response I had to the story, as I always do with Tijans writing.
I have reread Ryan's Bed recently and now I was curious what Tijan would put on top. Mac and Ryan are in college now and the story is told alternatively by Mac and Maren who is Mac's roommate. A lot of drama takes place and it reminded me a bit of Fallen Crest, but in a good way. I loved that we got to see how Mac fares after the shocking secret she revealed at the end of Ryan's Bed and that it was good. It looked to me that she was healing and learning to live without her twin. Interesting novella with a sweet ending. I just wished Tijan ended it with a glimpse into Mac and Ryan's future, just a little bit further. But okay, I can still live with the ending and I guess there will be no further story about them. The story has been told.
I fell hard for Ryan and Mackenzie in Ryan's bed. It was an emotional ride and it was incredibly easy to get swept up in the heartache, the love, and the trauma of the event. I always wanted more of Ryan and Mackenzie and all these years later Tijan has gifted us with this gorgeous novella.
Mac and Ryan aren't the stars of this book, they do feature very heavily but we get an introduction to two new characters, Maren and Cris. The four are already friends. Maren and Mackenzie are roommates and Cris and Ryan are teammates and housemates.
Maren is struggling with her life at the moment and just trying to get through by numbing herself to everything. Cris is a lot like Ryan, he's got the same alpha vibes and the same promising career. The two are freshmen taking the world by storm.
These four are already intertwined pretty tightly but the events that lead to Maren and Cris's falling out and the current issues Ryan and Mac are having living with everyone interested in them are about to collide bringing them together.
I am particularly glad that Tijan gave us a bit more of what happened after Mac's confession at the end of Ryan's Bed. It was one hell of an ending and always left me wanting more. I couldn't imagine how Tijan would bring us more and this was even more than I could have hoped for.
Thank you Tijan and if you're a fan of Ryan's Bed then you won't want to miss out on A Christmas Song. I'll always be wishing for more from my favorite Tijan characters and I would happily devour more from Ryan and Mackenzie and now Cris and Maren. . . . Maren has no idea what happened last night or where she is but when she realizes she's in her ex's bedroom she knows things are going to get worse. There is no chance of a quick getaway because Cris isn't having it and since she has no idea where her phone or keys are she's kind of out of options. 'It's like when I woke up in her bed, it woke the other part of me that I'd been trying to keep dead.'
Cris was furious with the state he found Maren in last night and the so-called friends and boyfriend did nothing to help her. He's determined to get to the bottom of whatever is going on with her whether she likes it or not. "You're still mine. You know that, right? You were never someone else's. Mine. You've only been mine."
Mackenzie hasn't seen much of her roommate for a few months. She feels like she hasn't been the best friend to Maren. Ryan is her world and everything she is still going through after the loss of her sister still weighs heavily on her. She wants to be there for Maren but Maren has to want to let her in. "Maren is one of my only friends from college and she's my roommate. I should've known something was going on."
Ryan won't risk losing Mackenzie. His protective instincts when it comes to her are always hyper-focused. Whatever is going on with Cris and Maren will have to sort itself out without putting any extra pressure on Mac. "I just need to know you're okay. Okay? I can't function if you're not. I go crazy."
Since seeing Cris with another girl and having her heart broken Maren has been numbing herself to everything. She's kept her distance from everyone who would remind her of him, including Mac. After waking up in Cris's bed she knows she can't hide anymore. It's time Cris and Mac learned the secrets she's kept from them. "Instead I got you and I forgot that you don't read minds. So fuck no to you walking away from me. I love you, and that for damn sure means no other chick or dick is going to touch you because you're mine. You hear me?"
Mackenzie will always feel the absence of Willow and learned that it will always be something that she will have struggles with. Ryan, her brother, and her parents are all on her side and there to support her, but not everyone is going to respect what she's been through. When it looks like her secrets will be used against Ryan she knows that Ryan will be the one to help her make things right but this time she's going to make sure to be there for Ryan. 'A sensation synced inside of me, a feeling of something clicking into place. In these situations, I wasn't the friend who appealed to rationality. Reason. Nope. I tended to enjoy leaning into where we were a little unhinged. It was more cathartic and a lot more fun.'
Maren didn't think coming clean would turn out with Cris sharing his secrets. What he shares has her looking at the past in a whole new light. Once she and Mac are back on the same page the girls are going to get their revenge and protect the men they love. 'There was a threat against us, against me, Maren, Cris, or him, it didn't quite matter to Ryan. It was a threat and I was involved, so his instincts were to fine me, claim me, and protect me at all costs.'
When I first read Ryan’s bed I was much younger and wrestling with my own mental health issues regarding depression, anxiety and suicide. I was unable and incapable of writing a coherent and decent review.
I reread it and then read this book for the purpose of refreshing my memory. I was once again overwhelmed and broken from Mac’s story. Her character is honestly the best I’ve ever read in regard to someone dealing with the aftermath of a loved one’s suicide while wrestling with their own struggles too.
The journey Mac and Ryan go through together as they heal and bond is phenomenal and so very honest. I love their chemistry, relationship and story.
This book introduces you to Maren and Cris who are their roommates, friends and going through their own horrors. Rape is a real and detrimental issue especially in regard to men. I love how Tijan shines lights on these issues and brings these characters to life as well.
Please read both of these books especially if you or a loved one wrestles with these terrifying, tragic and life changing issues.
Ryan's Bed was the first book that I read by Tijan and it's always been an old favorite. So, I was really excited to see this spin-off holiday novella! Of course, as I started reading, I realized that I'd forgotten a lot about this story...which I tend to do when it's been a long time since I read it...but it all started slowly coming back to me.
In this novella, we not only revisit Ryan and Mackenzie, but we also get Maren and Cristiano's story. The title is a little misleading. While it does tie into the story (especially at the end), this story has much more drama and angst than holiday feels. The story drew me in from the very beginning and didn't let go. It's a bit of a longer novella, but I still read it in nearly one sitting.
Although I'm not a big re-reader, this book almost makes me want to pick up Ryan's Bed again just because I love these characters so much.
Ryan's bed is one of my top ten books ever! So perfectly written. My only fault of it, was the ending with no epilogue. This book was the perfect follow-up, I don't usually like novellas and don't really bother reading them. I made an exception for Mac and Ryan. I'm so glad, fab book, it was wonderful to catch up with these two beautiful people and I really liked Maren and Cris. I feel this book could be an opener to a whole new world. Possibly what she's (tijan) been missing since the fallen crest series ended. That connection between two special people, that we want to see on and on and on! Big fat five stars from me.
As far as novellas go, this was a good one. Tijan somehow managed to fit two couples POVs and stories into one little book without making it feel like I was missing anything. Everything was fleshed out in a way a full-length novel would be. I loved getting caught up on Mac and Ryan as well as meeting Maren and Cris. Even though I got a full story, I wouldn't have minded more time getting deeper with Maren and Cris. This was an entertaining, sweet, steamy, light on the holiday stuff romance read. I would caution readers not to read it without reading Ryan's Bed because there are major spoilers for it.
I didn’t understand why this was named this way, but I have just finished and I get it. I really liked this novella for a few reasons. First, I got to spend more time with Mac and Willow. I don’t think I realized that she needed more time with Willow but it was necessary. Time doesn’t heal wounds. You heal your wounds. Both Mac and Maren had wounds that needed healing and they had to both recognize them and take steps to fix them. This was well done, in my opinion.
One thing that didn’t happen and should have was the charging and prosecution of the mean girl. What did happen was not enough.
This Ryan’s Bed spinoff mainly follows Mac and Ryan’s college roommates Maren and Cris Chavez, but our main characters are still a big part of the story. One drunken night leads Maren into Cris’ bed and it unleashes an unexpected series of events that have the 4 of them finding out some big secrets about one another and the way to cope with them while leaning on each other. In great Tijan’s style, they’ll have to fight the evils that surround them and each one will come through for the others in her always flawless trademark. A Christmas Song it’s a novella that brings a good deal to the table and only read if if you’ve read Ryan’s Bed as it contains major spoilers.
I loved Ryan and Mac from the moment I read Ryan's Bed, so reading about them again was so beautiful and almost nostalgic. But what I didn’t expect was to fall in love with two NEW characters, Maren and Cris. Even in this short novella, Tijan manages to capture our hearts once again. She brings in real, authentic, and tragic feelings and experiences and turns them into something brave and beautiful. The epiloge with Mac and finding her favorite Christmas song was everything. Thank you, Tijan!
I said it before and I will say it again. Tijan makes such good stories. May it be a novella, a standalone or a series. She writes these amazing angsty, spicy and heart-warming stories that makes your heart flutter and giddy. Her stories always leaves a mark. Idk how she does it but she does it all the time. The perfect balance of spicy, angst and romance. She is one of my go-to authors and you will never go wrong with her books. It always delivers.
You got to read Ryan's Bed first as this novella is connected to it and for you appreciate this story fully.
I can’t even begin to share my appreciation to Tijan for giving us more Ryan’s Bed world! I loved the book and was left wanting more and this novella hit the spot!
Not only did we get more of Mackenzie and Ryan, we got Maren and Cris too! This story is told from Mac and Maren’s POV. I love these strong women and their men who world tear the world apart for them, but support them when they need to take the lead.
The story, spice, plot…all amazing!
Like I said…more of this world and these characters makes my heart so happy!
Undoing Injustice!🥹❤️🩹💘 Romance And Healing.♥️🥰 A Christmas Song: A Ryan's Bed and Spin Off Novella.
It was lovely to pop in and see Ryan and Mac again. I loved that things hadn't been sanitised in their lives but were still moving forward with thoughtfulness and care!🙏🏼🥰
I really liked Maren and Cris. I felt for both of them and the situations they'd both been unwittingly forced into.💔 Kellie was a disgusting and dispispicable human being!😠
A plead to have a book about Troy and Luis band, please Tijan.🙏🏼🫶
In summary, I thoroughly enjoyed this Christmas novella.🎄😍
The first characters you meet are Maren and Cris. Maren is in her ex's bed and Cris is not happy about how he found her the night before. Maren was naked without her purse or her phone in a bar. Cris picked her up and carried her out.
Next you meet Maren's best friend Mackenzie and her boy friend Ryan. They are in the same house and have been having a wonderful time. Mac wants to check up on Maren so she does since they are roommates. The girls are confronted by Kellie and they have to decide on how they are going to handle her since she is trying to blackmail Mac.
Maren and Mackenzie tell their POV's in this novella. It got confusing and was a bit jarring at points because of it. There is the usual angst and I felt like I got dropped into the middle of the story again. Maren needed to deal with her issues and I felt like she really didn't through most of this book. Ryan and Cris spent most of their time trying to get both of their girls to be okay. There was a lot of angst and a lot going on. I did like it, but had hoped for some more happiness and a bit less heavy.
Ryan and Mac are my all-time favorite and I’m ecstatic to see more of them! I adore how caring and attentive Ryan is in taking care of Mac. I love how she’s just as fierce in taking care of him and having his back. It was so good to visit their world again.
Cris and Maren are amazing together. They are a perfect match for each other. Their friendships with Ryan and Mac are everything. I really enjoyed reading about both couples in this novella. It may be short, but it’s so very good! ❤️
Tijan can write anything and I’ll love it. Yeah, I’m biased, but her stories always resonate. This is Ryan’s Bed’s Novella and I couldn’t not read it. Mac and Ryan stole my heart in Ryan’s Bed, so it was a no-brainer to read more about them and I loved it!! I don’t remember Maren but her story intertwined nicely to Mac’s. There was no way I wasn’t going to love this story.
I loved going back and seeing how much Mac and Ryan have grown. It was really nice to see how there love has grown since high school and the event that forever changed Mac's life. I loved meeting the new characters introduced in this novella and I would so not mind revisiting these characters again.
I was looking for a catch up on kirk, Cora and the crew that would have been cool too!! All and all, I really enjoyed this Christmas treat!
I have to tell you it was a very pleasant surprise to get a novella for Ryan's Bed. Of course I had to release Ryan's Bed first. To get me in the perfect mood. I love how you did the novella. It not being just about Ryan and Mac. I fell in love with Maren and Chris. Not that I'm surprised I love every single on of your books.
Thank you Tijan for always writing books that captivate me with characters I fall in love with.
Ryan's Bed was the first Tijan book I ever read. It was the cover the drew me to it, still one of my favorites. Then I read the blurb, so I bought the book. Well, I freaking loved it, like really loved it. I have wanted more of Ryan and Mac ever since I finished the book. I will never get enough of them, so I'm so thankful we got this. If you were a fan of Ryan's Bed, you will want to pick this one up too.
This novella adds some additional insights to Ryan and Mackenzie's relationship and their friends. Mac's issues are settling down but she still has some backsliding over the summer. This story also introduces Maren and Cris, their close friends and roommates. They work together to get the better of a blackmailer and we find out more about some of Ryan's troubles in college. Another great book by Tijan.
Ryan’s Bed has always been a favorite of mine. I especially like the audible version. It was especially nice that we get a further glimpse into these characters. I hope there is more to come. Highly recommend. It would be better for the reader to read Ryan’s Bed first but it is not absolutely a requirement. This can be a stand-alone. What a Christmas treat. Note: this is not about Christmas till the end. HEA, no cheating, no cliffhanger. More, please.
This book brought me to tears. Every year before and since my Dad passed away we would listen to Perry Como’s Christmas album while decorating the tree. It always fills me with so much love, heartache and joy! Next Christmas and for as many that will follow we’ll be listening to For those who can’t be here. Thanks so much for the book and new song!! God Bless
I’m sooo happy that we get a lil bit of Ryan & Mac. It’s a super quick glimpse but we get some drama, some make-up seggs, some much needed heart to hearts, an almost beat well deserved down 😈 and a whole lot of love & friendship.
A Christmas Song is a good reminder to hug our loved ones a little longer this holiday season💕
This was so cute. Ryan and mac come back from ryan beds. U get to see them in college and see how they handle life after willow. Then u throw in maren and cris and she a whole new love story happening. So the best of both worls. The old and new. If u have read ryan beds bed read this. If u havent read both. Excellent books
Mac and Willow's story hits so close to home that my heart both aches and rejoices at tje words that transport me to their world. That guide me through their pain and their growth. This is an amazing novela although I would love to read more of the girl's journey.
